Novel circuits and design methodology of the massively parallel processor based on the matrix architecture are introduced. A fine-grained processing elements (PE) circuit for high-throughput MAC operations based on the Booth's algorithm enhances the performance of a 16-bit fixed-point signed MAC, which operates up to 30.0GOPS/W. The dedicated I/O interface circuits are designed for converting the direction of data access and supporting the interleaved memory architecture, and they are implemented for maximizing the processor core efficiency. Power management techniques for suppressing current peaks and reducing average power consumption are proposed to enhance the robustness of the macro. The circuits and the design methodology proposal in this paper are attractive for achieving a high performance and robust massively parallel SIMD processor core employed in multimedia SoCs 相似文献

This paper introduces a layered structure of the Korean terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (T-DMB) ensemble based on Eureka-147 and suggests a new transmission architecture for flexible T-DMB service. In the suggested transmission architecture, MPEG-2 transport stream (TS) for T-DMB multimedia service is inserted into the ensemble distributed via the ensemble transport interface (ETI). Thus, we propose a novel algorithm remultiplexing the ETI with MPEG-2 TS. The architecture of ETI remultiplexing algorithm is described as a four-step process, and implemented as real-time embedded software in an ETI remultiplexing system. The design and implementation of the interoperable ETI remultiplexing system available for a small-scale transmission system for T-DMB service is described in detail. 相似文献

The combination of high-speed multiservice networks and multimedia workstations offers considerable potential for the development of distributed multimedia applications. A key problem is how to integrate continuous-media types such as audio and video into a distributed workstation environment. An experimental system architecture based on a specialized multimedia network interface that attempts to provide this integration is described. The design and implementation of this system are discussed in depth in terms of workstation enhancement and distributed system support. A new approach to the problem of media synchronization is introduced, and the importance of quality of service in the architecture is highlighted. Embedded and portable systems running multimedia applications create a new challenge for hardware architects. A microprocessor for such applications needs to be easy to program like a general-purpose processor and have the performance and power efficiency of a digital signal processor. This paper presents the codevelopment of the instruction set, the hardware, and the compiler for the Vector IRAM media processor. A vector architecture is used to exploit the data parallelism of multimedia programs, which allows the use of highly modular hardware and enables implementations that combine high performance, low power consumption, and reduced design complexity. It also leads to a compiler model that is efficient both in terms of performance and executable code size. The memory system for the vector processor is implemented using embedded DRAM technology, which provides high bandwidth in an integrated, cost-effective manner. The hardware and the compiler for this architecture make complementary contributions to the efficiency of the overall system. This paper explores the interactions and tradeoffs between them, as well as the enhancements to a vector architecture necessary for multimedia processing. Multimedia applications such as video conference, digital video broadcasting (DVB), and streaming video and audio have been gaining popularity during last years and the trend has been to allocate these services more and more also on mobile users. The demand of quality of service (QoS) for multimedia raises huge challenges on the network design, not only concerning the physical bandwidth but also the protocol design and services. One of the goals for system design is to provide efficient solutions for adaptive multimedia transmission over different access networks in all-IP environment. The joint source and channel coding (JSCC/D) approach has already given promising results in optimizing multimedia transmission. However, in practice, arranging the required control mechanism and delivering the required side information through network and protocol stack have caused problems and quite often the impact of network has been neglected in studies. In this paper we propose efficient cross-layer communication methods and protocol architecture in order to transmit the control information and to optimize the multimedia transmission over wireless and wired IP networks. We also apply this architecture to the more specific case of streaming of scalable video streams. Scalable video coding has been an active research topic recently and it offers simple and flexible solutions for video transmission over heterogeneous networks to heterogeneous terminals. In addition it provides easy adaptation to varying transmission conditions. In this paper we illustrate how scalable video transmission can be improved with efficient use of the proposed cross-layer design, adaptation mechanisms and control information. 相似文献

A new transmission system is necessary for the Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) service in Korea. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a new architecture for the implementation of a DMB transmission system based on Eureka‐147. We describe the design and implementation of the Ensemble remultiplexer, which is essential to the proposed system for remultiplexing ETI frames and MPEG‐2 transport streams. The proposed system provides a solution with high flexibility and low cost for multimedia broadcasting service. In the coming multimedia/B-ISDN era, customers must be able to design, define, and manage communication services based on their own concepts and knowledge of communications.
