The current work gives concern to study the morphology of the Merluccius merluccius gills by using gross morphology, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and light microscopy. The findings of the present study revealed that the gill system consisted of four pairs of gill arches which carry the gill filaments on the convex border and gill rakers on the concave border of them. SEM results revealed that the rakers and the spines distribution on the first gill arch differed from that of the other three gill arches on the lateral and medial surfaces. On the surface the gill filaments, there were longitudinal ridges that carried pores of chloride cells and mucous cells. The histological examination revealed that, the gill arch composed of hyaline cartilage that presented in the form of cups. Each cup consisted of central cartilagenous core and peripheral cartilagenous matrix. The gill filaments composed of cartilaginous bar of peripheral cartilaginous matrix and central cartilaginous core extended from the gill arches and covered by an epithelial layers with a few mucous cells permeate it, and chloride cells were straggly in the interlamellar epithelium. Each gill filament carried several leaves like secondary lamellae on both sides of it. The epithelium, which lined the secondary lamellae, composed of epithelial pavement cells, some mucous cells, and pillar cells.  相似文献

The present work examined 10 gill systems of European barracuda grossly and by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Grossly, there were four pairs of the gill arches. The convex border of the gill arch carried the gills filaments, but there were abundance of spines near to its concave border and the gill rakers were absent. Laterally near to the convex border of the gill arch, SEM observations revealed that the first gill arch carried small elliptical, oval, cuboidal, and triangular groups of two shapes of spines; spearhead-like spines and canine-like spines, but the other three gill arches carried larger groups of the same shaped spines with the appearance of waterfalls. Medially near to the convex border of the first gill arch, the canine-like spines were observed only in the form of vertical rectangular groups that adhered in some areas. Laterally near to the concave border, the two shapes of spines were present in the form of longitudinal groups separated by spaces at the first gill arch, but these spaces were absent in the other three gill arches. Medially near to the concave border of the first gill arch, the two shapes of spines were presented in oval groups, while the other three gill arches were covered entirely by cuboidal groups of the two shapes of spines. The absence of the gill rakers in conjunction with an abundance of spines helps the European barracuda to control the food particles from escaping to the gill filaments to prevent its suffocation.  相似文献

Surface ultrastructure of the gills of the angler catfish Chaca chaca was investigated to unravel the adaptive modifications associated with the feeding ecology of the fish. The fish is often found in mud or in soft substrates where they remain buried both for protection and to feed. Gill rakers present on the gill arch in most fish species are absent in this fish. The absence of gill rakers are associated with the feeding habit of the fish and is considered to facilitate the swallowing of captured prey smoothly without any hindrance. Highly corrugated surface of the gill arch and gill filaments could be associated to retain water/mucus to prevent dessicassion of the fish. Papillae like epithelial protuberances each bearing a taste bud at its summit toward the pharyngeal side of the gill arch is associated with the sorting of the food. Large number of mucous goblet cells on the gill arch epithelium are considered to secret copious mucus to lubricate the prey for easy swallowing. In C. chaca the gill septa between gill filaments are reduced. This could enhance the flexibility and permit the free movement of the gill filaments. Extensive secondary lamellae and infrequent mucous goblet cells on secondary lamellae are associated to increase the surface area to enhance efficiency of gaseous exchange.  相似文献

Surface ultrastructures of gill filaments and secondary lamellae of Rita rita and Cirrhinus mrigala, inhabiting different ecological habitat, were investigated to unravel adaptive modifications. R. rita is a sluggish, bottom dwelling carnivorous catfish, which inhabits regions of river with accumulations of dirty water. It retains its viability for long time if taken out of water. C. mrigala is an active bottom dwelling Indian major carp, which lives in relatively clean water and dies shortly after taken out of water. In R. rita, gill septa between gill filaments are reduced. Microridges on epithelial cells covering gill filaments are often continuous and arranged concentrically. Secondary lamellae are extensive. The epithelium appears corrugated, show irregular elevations and shallow depressions, and microridges on epithelial cells appear fragmented. In C. mrigala, in contrast, the gill septa are extensive. Microridges on epithelial cells covering gill filaments are fragmented. Secondary lamellae are less extensive. The epithelium appears smooth and microridges on epithelial cells are relatively inconspicuous. These differences have been considered adaptive modification in relation to habit and ecological niches inhabited by two fish species. Presence of mucous goblet cells on gill filaments is discussed in relation to their functions including precipitation of the sediments and preventing clogging of gill filaments. Infrequent mucous goblet cells in the epithelium of secondary lamellae in two fish species are considered an adaptation, minimizing thickness of the epithelium to reduce barrier between blood and water for favoring gasses exchange with increased efficiency.  相似文献

The practical difficulty of parenteral application of fish vaccines against devastating fish diseases diverted the interest toward oral vaccination. Search for effective methods to enhance the oral uptake of viral and bacterial vaccines is continuing. The current research focus on a new role of mucosal fish vaccine adjuvants inducing the antigen uptake by enhancing vascularity or increasing intestinal permeability. Some inflammatory substances cause reversible pathology to the intestinal epithelium, which could be employed for the transepithelial passage of vaccine particles. The natural inflammatory substances used were capsaicin, piperine, and okadaic acid as 1 mg, 2 mg, and 1 μg/fish, respectively. Two inactivated vaccines were used as antigens to test the effect of these inflammatory substances in two different fish hosts. Tested vaccines were inactivated redspotted grouper nervous necrosis virus vaccine in sevenband grouper (Epinephelus septemfasciatus) and inactivated Edwardsiella tarda vaccine in red sea bream (Pagrus major) fish models. The inflammatory substances and each vaccine were anally intubated to fish. Capsaicin proved to be effectively aiding the transepithelial passage of vaccine particles more than piperine, while okadaic acid had no detectable effect.  相似文献

The effect of the prebuckling in-plane deformations on the elastic flexural-torsional buckling of laterally fixed circular arches is studied in this paper. The finite strains and the energy equation for the flexural-torsional buckling of arches have been derived based on an accurate orthogonal rotation matrix. A closed form solution for the elastic flexural-torsional buckling resistance of laterally fixed arches in uniform bending, including the effects of the prebuckling deformations, is obtained. It is found that the notion that the prebuckling deformations increase the flexural-torsional buckling moment of an arch or of a beam is not necessarily correct for a laterally fixed arch or beam in uniform bending, in deference to a laterally pinned arch. When a laterally fixed arch is subjected to positive uniform bending, the effects of the prebuckling deformations decrease the buckling moment, and the reduction of the buckling moment increases with an increase of the included angle and of the out-of-plane slenderness ratio of the arch. When a laterally fixed arch is subjected to negative uniform bending, the effects of the prebuckling deformations decrease the absolute value of its buckling moment when the included angle is very small, but increase the absolute value of the buckling moment when the included angle exceeds a certain value. The increase in the absolute value of the buckling moment increases with an increase of the included angle and of the out-of-plane slenderness ratio of the arch. When the ratio of the out-of-plane to the in-plane second moments of area of the cross-section is not small, both the reduction of the buckling moment of a laterally fixed arch in positive uniform bending and the increase of the buckling moment of a laterally fixed arch in negative uniform bending, are substantial.  相似文献

Pollen morphology and the degree of pollen variability within nine species and two varieties of Oxalis species from Buenos Aires Province (Argentina) were studied using light microscopy (LM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Oxalis pollen grain is generally 3-colpate and the shape is prolate spheroidal, oblate spheroidal or spheroidal. The exine is microreticulate. The brochi are circular to polygonal; brochi sizes decrease near the colpi. The colpus membrane observed in unacetolysed material, is crustate or granular. The colpus length varies within a species; the largest grains are produced in stamens with long filaments and the smallest ones in stamens with short filaments. Four pollen types are distinguished by means of LM, SEM and TEM. They are recognized mostly on the basis of their colpus membrane structure. In conclusion, the morphological similarity among Oxalis species is also reflected in their pollen morphology.  相似文献

Transmission and scanning electron microscopy (TEM, SEM) were used to study the ultrastructure of superficial neuromasts in 15 six-month old blind cavefish juveniles, Phreatichthys andruzzii (Cyprinidae). In five specimens examined with SEM, the number of superficial neuromasts over the fish body (480–538) was recorded. They were localized mainly on the head (362–410), including the dorsal surface, the mentomandibular region, and laterally from the mouth to the posterior edge of the operculum. Neuromasts were also present laterally on the trunk and near the caudal fin (116–140). A significantly higher number of neuromasts were present on the head compared to the trunk (t-test, P < 0.05). Superficial neuromasts of the head and those along the trunk were similar in ultrastructure. Each neuromast comprised sensory hair cells surrounded by nonsensory support cells (mantle cells and supporting basal cells) with the whole covered by a cupula. Each hair cell was pear-shaped, 15–21 μm high and 4–6 μm in diameter, with a single long kinocilium and several short stereocilia. Most support cells were elongated, with nuclei occupying a large portion of the cytoplasm. In the margin of the neuromast, mantle cells were particularly narrow. Both types of support cells had well-developed Golgi apparatus and rough endoplasmic reticulum. The number of hair cells and nonsensory support cells of the anterior lateral line (head) did not differ significantly from those of the posterior lateral line (trunk) (t-test, P > 0.05). Microsc. The shallow-water bivalve Codakia orbiculata which harbors gill-endosymbiotic sulfur-oxidizing γ-proteobacteria can lose and acquire its endosymbionts throughout its life. Long-term starvation and recolonization experiments led to changes in the organization of cells in the lateral zone of gill filaments. This plasticity is linked to the presence or absence of gill-endosymbionts. Herein, we propose that this reorganization can be explained by three hypotheses: (a) a variation in the number of bacteriocytes and granule cells due to proliferation or apoptosis processes, (b) a variation of the volume of these two cell types without modification in the number, and (c) a combination of both number and cell volume variation. To test these hypotheses, we analyzed cell reorganization in terms of proliferation and apoptosis in adults submitted to starvation and returned to the field using catalyzed reporter deposition fluorescence in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, and structural analyses. We observed that cell and tissue reorganization in gills filaments is due to a variation in cell relative abundance that maybe associated with a variation in cell apparent volume and depends on the environment. In fact, bacteriocytes mostly multiply in freshly collected and newly recolonized individuals, and excess bacteriocytes are eliminated in later recolonization stages. We highlight that host tissue regeneration in gill filaments of this symbiotic bivalve can occur by both replication of existing cells and division of undifferentiated cells localized in tissular bridges, which might be a tissue-specific multipotent stem cell zone.  相似文献

This paper presents the results of an investigation into the geometrically nonlinear behaviour of circular arches. A curved element is used, based on satisfying the condition that the circumferential strain and change in curvature, rather than the displacements, should be simple independent functions of the co-ordinate axes. The analysis was carried out using the linearized incremental method based on the mid-increment stiffness in conjunction with the Newton-Raphson iterative technique. A comparison is first made between the results obtained with this element and those using a simple polynomial shape function. The behaviour of a range of arches is then considered and the results are compared and found to agree well with an analytical method. The results include the behaviour of deeper but still shallow arches which exhibit “looping” of the load-deflexion curve, and bifurcation of the equilibrium path into unsymmetric deflexions of the arch.A computer program was developed to allow any of the generalized degrees of freedom which are designated for incrementation to be expressed as either forces, to avoid failure at the vertical tangent to the load deflexion curves, or as generalized displacements to avoid failure at the horizontal tangent. The program also allows the quantity subjected to incrementation to be changed as necessary to follow complex load-deflexion equilibrium paths.  相似文献

This paper presents a nonlinear in-plane elastic buckling analysis of circular shallow arches that are subjected both to a uniform temperature field and to a uniform radial load field. A virtual work method is used to establish nonlinear equilibrium equations and buckling equilibrium equations, and analytical solutions for the limit instability and bifurcation buckling loads are obtained. It is found that the temperature influences the limit instability, bifurcation buckling and postbuckling behaviour of shallow arches significantly. The limit instability and bifurcation buckling loads increase with an increase of the temperature. A maximum temperature is shown to exist for the occurrence of bifurcation buckling of shallow arches, and when the temperature is higher than this value, bifurcation buckling of an arch is not possible.An arch geometric parameter is introduced to define switches between the limit instability and bifurcation buckling modes, and between buckling and no buckling. Formulae and methods for the calculation of the limiting values of the arch geometric parameter are developed. It is also found that the limiting values of the arch geometric parameter decrease with an increase of the temperature.  相似文献

In the giant male prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii, the olfactory system is thought to be the main pathway for modulating sexual behavior through pheromone perception. In this report, we first used gross anatomical, histological, and SEM methods to describe the structures of the olfactory receptors (sensilla setae), their neural pathways, and possible role in modulating mating behavior. On the surfaces of antennule and antenna filaments there are four types of sensory receptors, viz single spike‐like setae, single flagellum‐like setae, multiple flagella‐like setae, and aesthetascs (ASs). The ASs, which had previously been proposed to be odor receptor setae, are found only on the short filament of lateral antennule (slAn). Each AS on the slAn connects with olfactory receptor neurons (ORNs), whose axons form an outer central antennule nerve (ocAnNv), which then connects with the olfactory neutrophil (ON) of the brain. Thus, the slAn is the major olfactory organ that conveys sensory inputs from each AS to the ON within the deutocerebrum. GABA immunoreactivity was present in ASs, neurons of ORNs, inner central antennular, lateral tegumentary nerve, ocAnNv and the ON, inferring that GABA is the likely neurotransmitter in modulating olfaction. Disruption of the slAn by ablation or covering with Vaseline, resulted in significant reduction of mating behavior, indicating that this organ is crucial for sex pheromone perception. Brazilian endemic species Diplodon expansus (Küster, 1856) is found in freshwater bodies in the country's southeast, in large anthropogenic influence regions especially with an extensive agriculture emphasis. One of the main pesticides used in the species occurrence region is the atrazine herbicide, which has a great contamination potential in the aquatic environment. Therefore, several studies into its toxicity in aquatic systems have been developed. However, the tested concentrations are usually very high and rarely found in the environment and the short-term exposure responses in other aquatic organisms such as native bivalves are still scarce. Thus, this study sought to consider the potential effects of environmentally realistic concentrations of atrazine herbicide on the surface morphology of gill filaments of the bivalve D. expansus under laboratory-controlled conditions after short-term exposure. None of the animals died before the end of the experiment. The main alterations were observed on the frontal surface of filaments, which include mucus accumulation, cilia loss, and disruption. Mucus increased secretion and accumulation in the frontal filaments region preceded as a protective mechanism. Cilia loss and disruption on the frontal surface of the gill filament indicated that ciliated frontal cells were more sensitive to atrazine exposure and these alterations may cause gills functional damages, compromising the uptake of food particles and respiration. Therefore, higher sublethal concentrations of atrazine may compromise the survival and consequently the population of D. expansus in agriculture areas after a longer period of continuous exposure.  相似文献

Thin shallow arches may become unstable under transverse loading if the built-up internal compressive forces reach a limiting value beyond which the structure undergoes a sudden large displacement towards a new stable configuration. This phenomenon could be both desirable (in toggle switches) and disastrous (collapse of a dome or truss). Hence, the so-called snapor limit-load analysis becomes important as to which factors influence it to give guidelines in designing structures to behave favorably. By the introduction of functionally graded materials (FGMs) in recent years, and incorporating them into this phenomenon, interesting results can be obtained which can give structures with favorable instability properties. In this work, a thin shallow arch with a modulus that can be varied along the thickness or the arch length or both is considered. Based on the governing equations of the deflected arch, the snap load is obtained in a mixed analytical-numerical approach and a parameter study of the critical load is carried out. Several verifying and interesting examples are presented.  相似文献

An exact solution for in-plane vibration of arches with variable curvature as well as cross section has been developed using the famous Frobenius method combined with the dynamic stiffness method. The effects of shear deformation and rotary inertia are taken into account. A convergent solution is always guaranteed without numerical difficulties. An important by-product of this series solution is that the first known dynamic stiffness matrix for an arch with variable curvature and variable cross section is also explicitly formulated. Some new numerical results are given for non-dimensional frequencies of parabolic arches with a certain type of variation of cross section along the arch that is often used in practical structures. Extensive and accurate (six significant figure ) non-dimensional frequency tables and graphic charts are presented for a series of parabolic arches showing the effects of rise to span length, slenderness ratio, and variation of cross section.  相似文献

The influences of train length on vehicle dynamics and train stability were investigated using different vehicle models of various lengths. First, a reliable vehicle model was constructed to determine the cause of unstable lateral vibration. This model reflects the tendencies observed in the high-speed test line investigations. Analysis results show that the secondary lateral stiffness of the air spring is the most significant cause of lateral vibration in car bodies. Vibrations were stable in the analysis of short train formations, which had either 7 or 10 cars, even though lateral stiffness was high. However, long train formations that contained either 16 or 20 cars vibrated unstably. Mode analysis results suggested that an increase in wheel conicity can reduce the unstable, low-frequency vibration of long trains.  相似文献

An arch under an in-plane central concentrated radial load is subjected to combined axial compressive and bending actions. When these combined axial compressive and bending actions reach a certain value, the arch may suddenly deflect laterally and twist out of its plane of loading and fail in a lateral-torsional buckling mode. This paper derives analytical solutions for the elastic lateral-torsional buckling load of pin-ended circular arches that are subjected to a central concentrated load, using the principle of stationary potential energy in conjunction with the Rayleigh-Ritz method. Analytical solutions of the buckling load for in-plane fixed and out-of-plane pin-ended arches and for the case of the load acting above or below the shear centre are also derived. The analytical solutions are compared with results of a commercial finite element package ANSYS and a finite element code developed by authors elsewhere for arches with different slendernesses, included angles, and cross-sections. The agreement between the analytical solutions and the finite element results is very good.  相似文献

The design of an electron accelerator cathode unit with short filament elements in the form of a coil without a tightening mechanism is described. The advantage of the developed design over those of cathodes with long filaments with tightening mechanisms is shown. The nonuniformity of the beam-current density distribution behind the foil is <3%. The filament power required for cathodes in the form of coils is 20% lower than that for long-filament cathodes at the same beam-current density. Mechanical stresses leading to a breakdown of the cathode filaments are absent. The service life is determined mainly by the emission-caused wear of cathodes.  相似文献
