The examination of the effectiveness of the chemical oxidation using Fenton's reagent (H(2)O(2)/Fe(2+)) for the reduction of the organic content of wastewater generated from a textile industry has been studied. The experimental results indicate that the oxidation process leads to a reduction in the chemical oxygen demand (COD) concentration up to 45%. Moreover, the reduction is reasonably fast at the first stages of the process, since the COD concentration is decreased up to 45% within four hours and further treatment time does not add up to the overall decrease in the COD concentration (48% reduction within six hours). The maximum color removal achieved was 71.5%. In addition, the alterations observed in the organic matter during the development of the process, as indicated by the ratios of COD/TOC and BOD/COD and the oxidation state, show that a great part of the organic substances, which are not completely mineralized, are subjected to structural changes to intermediate organic by-products.  相似文献

Advanced oxidation processes including UV, UV/H(2)O(2), Fenton reaction (Fe(II)/H(2)O(2)) and photo-Fenton process (Fe(II)/H(2)O(2)/UV) for the treatment of paper mill wastewater will be investigated. A comparison among these techniques is undertaken with respect to the decrease of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total suspended solids (TSS) and the evolution of chloride ions. Optimum operating conditions for each process under study revealed the effect of the initial amounts of Fe(II) and hydrogen peroxide. Of the tested processes, photo-Fenton process was found to be the fastest one with respect to COD and TSS reduction of the wastewater within 45 min reaction time under low amounts of Fe(II) and hydrogen peroxide of 0.5 and 1.5mg/L, respectively, and amounted to 79.6% and 96.6% COD and TSS removal. The initial biodegradability of the organic matter present in the effluent, estimated as the BOD(5)/COD, was low 0.21. When the effluent was submitted to the different types of AOPs used in this study, the biodegradability increases significantly. Within 45 min of reaction time, the photo-Fenton process appears as the most efficient process in the enhancement of the biodegradability of the organic matter in the effluent and the BOD(5)/COD ratio increased from 0.21 to 0.7.  相似文献

The treatment of landfill leachate by Fenton process was carried out in a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR). The effect of operating conditions such as reaction time, hydraulic retention time, pH, H(2)O(2) to Fe(II) molar ratio, Fenton's reagent dosage, initial COD strength, and temperature on the efficacy of Fenton process was investigated. It is demonstrated that Fenton's reagent can effectively degrade leachate organics. Fenton process reached the steady state after three times of hydraulic retention. The oxidation of organic materials in the leachate was pH dependent and the optimal pH was 2.5. The favorable H(2)O(2) to Fe(II) molar ratio was 3, and organic removal increased as dosage increased at the favorable H(2)O(2) to Fe(II) molar ratio. Temperature gave a positive effect on organic removal.  相似文献

Simple measurements of H2O2 concentration or CO2 evolution were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the use of Fenton's reagent to mineralize organic compounds in water and soil contaminated by crude petroleum. This methodology is suitable for application in small treatment and remediation facilities. Reagent concentrations of H2O2 and Fe(2+) were found to influence the reaction time and temperature, as well as the degree of mineralization and biodegradability of the sample contaminants. Some H2O2/Fe(2+) combinations (H2O2 greater than 10% and Fe(2+) greater than 50mM) resulted in a strong exothermic reaction, which causes peroxide degradation and violent gas liberation. Up to 75% TOC removal efficiency was attained in water and 70% in soil when high H2O2 (20%) and low Fe(2+) (1mM) concentrations were used. Besides increasing the degree of mineralization, the Fenton's reaction enhances the biodegradability of petroleum compounds (BOD5/COD ratios) by a factor of up to 3.8 for contaminated samples of both water and soil. Our experiments showed that low reagent concentrations (1% H2O2 and 1mM Fe(2+)) were sufficient to start the degradation process, which could be continued using microorganisms. This leads to a decrease in reagent costs in the treatment of petroleum-contaminated water and soil samples. The simple measurements of H2O2 concentration or CO2 evolution were effective to evaluate the Fenton's reaction efficiency.  相似文献

Pulp mill effluent containing toxic chemicals was treated by different advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) consisting of treatments by hydrogen peroxide, Fenton's reagent (H2O2/Fe2+), UV, UV/H2O2, photo-Fenton (UV/H2O2/Fe2+), ozonation and peroxone (ozone/H2O2) in laboratory-scale reactors for color, total organic carbon (TOC) and adsorbable organic halogens (AOX) removals from the pulp mill effluent. Effects of some operating parameters such as the initial pH, oxidant and catalyst concentrations on TOC, color, AOX removals were investigated. Almost every method used resulted in some degree of color removal from the pulp mill effluent. However, the Fenton's reagent utilizing H2O2/Fe2+ resulted in the highest color, TOC and AOX removals under acidic conditions when compared with the other AOPs tested. Approximately, 88% TOC, 85% color and 89% AOX removals were obtained by the Fenton's reagent at pH 5 within 30 min. Photo-Fenton process yielded comparable TOC (85%), color (82%) and AOX (93%) removals within 5 min due to oxidations by UV light in addition to the Fenton's reagent. Fast oxidation reactions by the photo-Fenton treatment makes this approach more favorable as compared to the others used.  相似文献

A two stage sequential Fenton's oxidation followed by aerobic biological treatment train was used to achieve decolorization and to enhance mineralization of azo dyes, viz. Reactive Black 5 (RB5), Reactive Blue 13 (RB13), and Acid Orange 7 (AO7). In the first stage, Fenton's oxidation process was used while in the second stage aerobic sequential batch reactors (SBRs) were used as biological process. Study was done to evaluate effect of pH on Fenton's oxidation process. Results reveal that pH 3 was optimum pH for achieving decolorization and dearomatization of dyes by Fenton's process. Degradation of dye was assessed by COD reduction and reduction in aromatic amines (naphthalene chromophores) which was measured by reduction in absorbance at 200 nm. More than 95% of color was removed with Fenton's oxidation process in all dyes. In overall treatment train 81.95, 85.57, and 77.83% of COD reduction was achieved in RB5, RB13, and AO7 dyes, respectively. In the Fenton's oxidation process 56, 24.5, and 80% reduction in naphthalene group was observed in RB5, RB13, and AO7, respectively, which further increased to 81.34, 68.73, and 92% after aerobic treatment. Fenton's oxidation process followed by aerobic SBRs treatment sequence seems to be viable method for achieving significant degradation of azo dye.  相似文献

In this work, the photo-Fenton process was used for the pretreatment of hospital wastewater with the objective of improving its overall biodegradability and determining the degree of increased oxidation. The chemical oxygen demand (COD), 5-day biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5), total organic carbon (TOC) and toxicity towards the gram negative marine bioluminescent bacteria of the species V. fischeri were selected as the environmental sum parameters to follow the performance of this process. The enhancement of biodegradability, evaluated in terms of the BOD5/COD ratio, increased from 0.3 to 0.52 and the oxidation degree, calculated in terms of AOS, leveled up from -1.14 to +1.58 at the optimum conditions; a dosage ratio of COD:H2O2:Fe(II) at 1:4:0.1, and a reaction pH of 3. The reduction in the inhibition percentage from the toxicity test indicated the safe levels for micro-organisms in degrading the residual organic substance in this method. Almost total removal percentages of COD, BOD5, and TOC were found by a sequential activated sludge process for the pre-treated wastewater. Results obtained from this work indicated that the photo-Fenton process could be a suitable pretreatment method in reducing toxicity of pollutants and enhancing biodegradability of hospital wastewaters treated in a coupled photochemical-biological system.  相似文献

Two advanced oxidative processes (Fe2+/H2O2/UV and H2O2/UV systems) were used for the pre-treatment of mature landfill leachate with the objective of improving its overall biodegradability, evaluated in terms of BOD5/COD ratio, up to a value compatible with biological treatment. At optimized experimental conditions (2000 mgL(-1) of H2O2 and 10 mgL(-1) of Fe2+ for the photo-Fenton system, and 3000 mgL(-1) of H2O2 for the H2O2/UV system), both methods showed suitability for partial removal of chemical oxygen demand (COD), total organic carbon (TOC) and color. The biodegradability was significantly improved (BOD5/COD from 0.13 to 0.37 or 0.42) which allowed an almost total removal of COD and color by a sequential activated sludge process. In addition, gel permeation chromatography (GPC) has showed a substantial agreement on the cleavage of large organic compound into smaller ones.  相似文献

This paper explored a novel process for wastewater treatment, i.e. microwave enhanced Fenton-like process. This novel process was introduced to treat high concentration pharmaceutical wastewater with initial COD loading of 49,912.5 mg L−1. Operating parameters were investigated and the optimal condition included as follows: microwave power was 300 W, radiation time was 6 min, initial pH was 4.42, H2O2 dosage was 1300 mg L−1 and Fe2(SO4)3 dosage was 4900 mg L−1, respectively. Within the present experimental condition used, the COD removal and UV254 removal reached to 57.53% and 55.06%, respectively, and BOD5/COD was enhanced from 0.165 to 0.470. The variation of molecular weight distribution indicated that both macromolecular substances and micromolecular substances were eliminated quite well. The structure of flocs revealed that one ferric hydrated ion seemed to connect with another ferric hydrated ion and/or organic compound molecule to form large-scale particles by means of van der waals force and/or hydrogen bond. Subsequently, these particles aggregated to form flocs and settled down. Comparing with traditional Fenton-like reaction and conventional heating assisted Fenton-like reaction, microwave enhanced Fenton-like process displayed superior treatment efficiency. Microwave was in favor of improving the degradation efficiency, the settling quality of sludge, as well as reducing the yield of sludge and enhancing the biodegradability of effluent. Microwave enhanced Fenton-like process is believed to be a promising treatment technology for high concentration and biorefractory wastewater.  相似文献

The effectiveness of the Fenton's reagent (H(2)O(2)/Fe(2+)) in the treatment of carpet dyeing wastewater was investigated under different operational conditions, namely, H(2)O(2) and FeSO(4) concentrations, initial pH and temperature. Up to 95% COD removal efficiency was attained using 5.5 g/l FeSO(4) and 385 g/l H(2)O(2) at a pH of 3, temperature of 50 degrees C. The H(2)O(2)/Fe(2+) ratio (g/g) was found to be between 95 and 290 for maximum COD removal. It was noteworthy that, keeping H(2)O(2)/Fe(2+) ratio constant within the range of 95-290, it became possible to decrease FeSO(4) concentration to 1.1 g/l and H(2)O(2) concentration to 96.3 g/l, still achieving nearly the same COD removal efficiency. The relative efficiencies of Fenton's oxidation and coagulation stages revealed that Fenton's coagulation removed organic compounds which were not removed by Fenton's oxidation, indicating that the Fenton's coagulation acted as a polishing step.  相似文献

In order to explore the effect of hypersaline aniline-containing pharmaceutical wastewater on the structure of activated sludge-derived bacterial community, RAPD-PCR and PCR-DGGE techniques were used to analyze the change of bacterial community diversity and structure during the acclimation to different concentrations of two types of wastewater. Different bacterial community structures and significant shift in the bacterial community diversity were observed during the acclimation of wastewater. The number of bacterial species and the abundance of bacteria acclimated to different concentration of wastewater decreased when the concentration increased. The trends of bacterial community diversity indices revealed by RAPD or DGGE profiles were different. The change of bacterial community diversity might be due to the adaptation and mutation under selection issues in the acclimation of wastewater. The relationship between diversity indices and the content of chemical oxygen demand (COD), chloride, salinity and aniline based on RAPD and DGGE data indicated that the change of the bacterial community diversity might not be due to a single factor but might be due to the integrated effects of all the contaminants in the wastewater. Phylogenic trees based on RAPD and DGGE fingerprints were different, indicating that the effect of wastewaters A and B on the bacterial community structure was different, which might be due to the characteristics of wastewater.  相似文献

The present study is to investigate the treatment of a surfactant wastewater containing abundant sulfate by Fenton oxidation and aerobic biological processes. The operating conditions have been optimized. Working at an initial pH value of 8, a Fe2+ dosage of 600mgL(-1) and a H2O2 dosage of 120mgL(-1), the chemical oxidation demand (COD) and linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS) were decreased from 1500 and 490mgL(-1) to 230 and 23mgL(-1) after 40min of Fenton oxidation, respectively. Advanced oxidation pretreatment using Fenton reagent was very effective at enhancing the biodegradability of this kind of wastewater. The wastewater was further treated by a bio-chemical treatment process based on an immobilized biomass reactor with a hydraulic detention time (HRT) of 20h after Fenton oxidation pretreatment under the optimal operating conditions. It was found that the COD and LAS of the final effluent were less than 100 and 5mgL(-1), corresponding to a removal efficiencies of over 94% and 99%, respectively.  相似文献

Bisphenol A (BPA), a xenobiotic that exhibits endocrine disrupting action can be found in surface water. Its complete elimination can be obtained by advanced oxidation processes, notably upon the application of ultrasonic waves. In order to evaluate the feature of ultrasound relevance and the involvement of the hydroxyl radical in the BPA sonochemical degradation, ultrasound action was compared to Fenton's reaction in the cases of deionised acidic water (pH 3) and natural water (pH 7.6, main ions concentration: Ca(2+)=486mgL(-1), Na(+)=9.1mgL(-1), Cl(-)=10mg L(-1), SO(4)(2-)=1187mgL(-1), HCO(3)(-)=402mgL(-1)). Ultrasound was performed at 300kHz and 80W. Fenton's process was operated using ferrous sulphate (100micromolL(-1)) and continuous H(2)O(2) addition at the rate as it is produced when sonication is applied in water in absence of substrate. Experiments carried out in deionised water show that both processes exhibit identical BPA elimination rate and identical primary intermediates. Main chemical pathways involve reactions with OH radical. Chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total organic carbon (TOC) analyses show that the Fenton's process is slightly more efficient than ultrasonic treatment for the removal of BPA by-products in the case of deionised water. Experiments conducted in natural water evidenced the inhibition of the Fenton process while the ultrasound action was not hampered.  相似文献

Treatment of landfill leachate by using electro-Fenton method   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
In this study, the effects of various operating conditions such as treatment time, DC current, initial pH, initial H(2)O(2) concentration and distance between the electrodes on treatability of landfill leachate by using electro-Fenton (EF) method were examined. The settling characteristics of waste sludge produced from the treatment were also determined. According to the results, EF method can be used efficiently for the treatment of landfill leachate by using the proper operating conditions. The best removal efficiencies were obtained when: treatment duration is 20 min, constant DC current value is 3A, H(2)O(2) concentration is 2000 mg L(-1) and the initial pH value is 3. For these conditions, 72% COD, 90% color, 87% PO(4)-P and 28% NH(4)-N removals were obtained. It was also observed that using electrode distance between 1.8 cm and 2.8 cm increases efficiency of the COD removal, significantly. Sedimentation characteristics of the waste sludge produced from the EF method is fairly good.  相似文献

Fenton's reaction is proposed as an accelerated weathering test for sulphides associated with Brazilian Coal Mining Residues (CMR), that are exposed to oxygen and water during the mining of coal. TEM and SEM/EDX were used to evaluate the nature, occurrence and distribution of minerals in remaining coals and other lithological units, before and after applying the test. Oxidation of CMRs was examined by analyzing soluble sulphur (sulphate) and dissolved metals by ICP-MS or ICP OES. As dissolved sulphate increases, dissolved Zn, Cd, Cu and Co concentrations increase, leading to undetectable amounts in the remaining solid phases; dissolved Ni and Mn also increase with the mobilized sulphur, but the remainder in the solids is the most important fraction; Fe and Pb are not mobilized due to precipitation as jarosite or hematite in the case of Fe or as sulphate in the case of Pb. Agreement between the observed results and the predictions by geochemical modelling is discussed.  相似文献

The objective of this work was to evaluate a potential method for improving the treatment efficiency of persistent contaminants in industrial wastewater. Adsorption with powdered activated carbon (PAC) was applied as pre-treatment and operational conditions as pH, temperature, carbon concentration and time were investigated in laboratory scale for different streams generated in a fine chemical industry. Chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiencies of 63 and 50% were attained for two important industrial streams, Product C after acid treatment and precipitation and Influent, at pH 7, room temperature and with 5 and 15 g l(-1) of PAC, respectively. Biodegradation assays showed that PAC adsorption enhanced COD removal efficiency. PAC pre-treatment increased the COD removal of Product C after production stream from 15 to 80% and improved the biodegradability of the Influent stream by 50%.  相似文献

Decontamination of soil washing wastewater was performed using two different solar driven advanced oxidation processes (AOPs): the photo-Fenton reaction and the cobalt/peroxymonosulfate/ultraviolet (Co/PMS/UV) process. Complete sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS), the surfactant agent used to enhance soil washing process, degradation was achieved when the Co/PMS/UV process was used. In the case of photo-Fenton reaction, almost complete SDS degradation was achieved after the use of almost four times the actual energy amount required by the Co/PMS/UV process. Initial reaction rate in the first 15 min (IR15) was determined for each process in order to compare them. Highest IR15 value was determined for the Co/PMS/UV process (0.011 mmol/min) followed by the photo-Fenton reaction (0.0072 mmol/min) and the dark Co/PMS and Fenton processes (IR15 = 0.002 mmol/min in both cases). Organic matter depletion in the wastewater, as the sum of surfactant and total petroleum hydrocarbons present (measured as chemical oxygen demand, COD), was also determined for both solar driven processes. It was found that, for the case of COD, the highest removal (69%) was achieved when photo-Fenton reaction was used whereas Co/PMS/UV process yielded a slightly lower removal (51%). In both cases, organic matter removal achieved was over 50%, which can be consider proper for the coupling of the tested AOPs with conventional wastewater treatment processes such as biodegradation.  相似文献

In this work, an indirect method for estimating the total amount and concentration of oxidative radicals in aqueous and slurry-phase Fenton's systems was developed. This method, based on the use of benzoic acid as probe compound, was applied for evaluating the effect of the operating conditions on the radicals amount produced, their production efficiency (i.e. moles of radicals generated per mole H2O2 and their concentration. A Rotatable Central Composite design (RCC) was used to select the operating conditions in order to get a statistically meaningful data set. Hydrogen peroxide and ferrous ion concentrations ranged between 0.2-1mM and 0.2-0.5mM, respectively; humic acid concentration between 0 and 15mg/L, whereas the soil/water weight ratio in slurry-phase systems between 1:10 and 9:10. The probe compound concentration was 9 or 0.1mM in experiments aimed to evaluate the total amount or concentration of oxidative radicals, respectively. The obtained results indicated that the amount of radicals generated in both aqueous and soil slurry Fenton's system increased with higher H2O2 concentration and, more specifically, that their production efficiency increased with increasing Fe(II):H2O2 molar ratio. Addition of dissolved organic compounds as humic acid did not notably affect the oxidative radicals amount and concentration. On the contrary, a one order of magnitude reduction in both radicals amount generated and concentration was observed when soil was added to the reaction environment.  相似文献

The objectives of the study were to test the effects of coagulation sedimentation after oxidation with potassium ferrate (CSOPF) in advanced treatment of wastewater from traditional Chinese medicine (TCMW) and to research kinetics of chemical oxygen demand (CODcr) and color removal by means of potassium ferrate oxidation. It was hoped to develop a feasible technology and provide technical support for TCMW factories. This study confirmed that implementing coagulating sedimentation after oxidation with potassium ferrate was very efficient for the advanced treatment of the secondary treatment effluent of TCMW. In this optimal situation, the performance of the CSOPF was stable, and the CODcr and the color in the effluent were always under 45and 25?mg?L?1 respectively, which meet the strictest discharge standards of the discharge standard of water pollutes for pharmaceutical industry Chinese traditional medicine category (GB21906-2008)(DSWPPICTMC). Moreover, the experiment proved that the economic benefits of CSOPF implementation were striking because its operation cost is only 0.08380 US$ per m3. Compared with the total cost of the existing wastewater treatment system in the sampled factory, the total saving of CSOPF implementation was 0.15845 US$ per m3. Finally, the experiment confirmed that in potassium ferrate oxidation, the removal rate for COD can be described by C/C0 = exp(?0.0421t) and the removal rate for color can be described by C/C0 = exp(?0.0434t).  相似文献
