Spatial hole burning at the position of the dye cell is identified to be responsible for stable double-, triple-, and higher oligo-mode action in a narrow-band CW dye laser. This may be exploited systematically to control the mode distances by arranging the positions of both resonator end mirrors. A total output power up to over 100 mW is obtainable for double- or triple-mode action. Special conditions are described to obtain stable double-mode action with 1772-MHz mode spacing, as needed for simultaneous optical pumping of the two sodium hyperfine ground states.  相似文献

An output power of 1 W is reported from a tunable CW dye laser pumped by 3.5 W of argon laser radiation. The nearly 30 percent conversion efficiency is achieved by using a very low-loss folded 3-mirror cavity and by pumping through a Brewster-angle dispersing prism.  相似文献

A continuous rhodamine 6G jet stream dye laser was pumped by a high-power multimode argon laser. Using water with a viscosity-raising additive as a solvent, no thermooptical problems arose up to the available pump power of 110 W. The sensitivity of a broad-band dye laser to selective intracavity absorption is proportional to the number of oscillating modes. This result is obtained from a rate equation model, taking into account the spectral homogeneity, but spatial inhomogeneity of the laser saturation. An increase of absorption sensitivity by a factor of 105, compared to a single-pass measurement, is observed in an experiment with an iodine vapor absorption cell inside the cavity of a CW dye laser. The fluorescence of an external iodine vapor cell provides a convenient selective absorption monitor.  相似文献

We have obtained CW laser action on four transitions in the doublet system of atomic fluorine for the first time. All previously reported laser action was on a pulsed basis only. We present both theoretical and experimental details on the effects of cavity length deturning of the synchronously mode-locked CW dye laser. The theory predicts an increase in cavity length sensitivity with intracavity bandwidth, and an asymmetric variation in the pulsewidth and pulse power with length detuning from the "matched" position. A detailed investigation of the dual-wavelength pulse trains from the double mode-locked CW dye laser is made using cross-correlation measurements. Direct displays of pulse shapes and of the system jitter distribution are experimentally determined on a picosecond time scale. Techniques for determining the relative time of generation between the two double mode-locked pulse trains are also demonstrated. A variety of operating modes for this system is discussed in detail, providing further insight into the fundamental mechanisms involved in the production of the two pulse trains.  相似文献

We present ten new far-infrared (FIR) laser lines obtained by optically pumping ethyl chloride by means of a CW waveguide CO2 laser with a tunability range of 300 MHz. By means of a heterodyne technique and using, as mixing element, a metal-insulator-metal (MIM) point contact diode or a new home built metal-semiconductor diode, we measured the frequency of all these new lines, as well as that of another line, previously reported in literature. With our new lines, the total number of FIR laser lines emitted by ethyl chloride rises to 14; for each of them we give the offset relative to the center frequency of the pumping radiation, the polarization relative to that of the pumping CO2 laser, the relative intensity, and the optimum operation pressure. Seven of the new lines have frequencies in the 300-512-GHz range and four of them are strong enough to be used in high-field EPR spectroscopy  相似文献

Infrared dyes emitting around 1.3 μm exhibit fluorescence lifetimes τflof only ∼ 10 ps which are shorter than the duration of the pump pulses (t_{p} sim70ps). This fact results in performance characteristics different from those of visible dye lasers where the fluorescence lifetime is longer than tp. The pulse properties of IR dye lasers are investigated for various bandwidth-limiting elements. The generation of nearly transform-limited dye laser pulses as short as 6 ps-assuming a Gaussian temporal shape-is demonstrated.  相似文献

Single-mode CW oscillations at absorption lines of neon from the1sstates to the2pstates were achieved by inserting a Faraday filter in an argon-laser-pumped dye laser cavity without any other wavelength selective elements. The oscillations at absorption lines were selected by choosing adequate values of the filling pressure of a neon discharge tube and a magnetic field strength. The oscillation frequency shifted with the increase of the magnetic field strength toward higher frequency in the center region and toward lower frequency on the wing of the absorption line, which was found to be due to the isotope effect. Good agreement was found between the experimental results and the theoretically calculated feature of the Faraday filter.  相似文献

Single-mode CW oscillations at the center of the sodiumDlines have been achieved by inserting a Faraday filter in an argon-laser-pumped dye laser cavity. The oscillations at the D1and D2lines can be selected by choosing adequate values of the sodium temperature and the magnetic field strength. Experimentally obtained conditions to get the single-mode oscillations at the center of theDlines are compared with the theoretically calculated feature of the Faraday filter, and a relatively good agreement has been found.
