Surveys were carried out between 2007 and 2010 to determine the total levels of sulfites in 1245 samples of wines, dried apricots, dried vegetables, nuts, juices and purees, frozen foods and cereals containing dried fruit supplied by food inspectors and by food producers for testing or for export certification. Sulfite analysis of wine was carried out using the Ripper method with an LOQ of 5?mg?l?1 and for dried and other foods the Monier-Williams distillation procedure was employed with an LOQ of 10?mg?kg?1. In the survey all wines contained measurable sulfites, but with the exception of one sample of white wine they were otherwise below Turkish Food Codex limits of 160?mg?kg?1 for red wine, 210?mg?kg?1 to white wine and 235?mg?kg?1 for sparkling wine. None of the cereal products, frozen foods, juices or purees contained sulfites above 10?mg?kg?1. However, all dried apricot samples contained significant levels of sulfite with around 40% having levels exceeding the Turkish limit of 2000?mg?kg?1. Significant levels of sulfite were found in other samples of dried fruit with even a fruit and nut bar containing 1395?mg?kg?1 of sulfite, suggesting the dried fruit ingredients contained levels above regulatory limits.  相似文献

The total selenium content of about 800 food products purchased in Belgium was determined and combined with food records to determine the nutritional selenium status of Belgian people. The largest selenium concentrations (>1?mg?kg?1) were found in Brazil nuts and offal, of which the consumption is limited. Usually consumed food groups with the highest selenium concentrations were fish and shellfish (0.2–0.9?mg?kg?1), eggs, poultry meat, cheese, mushrooms and pasta (approximately 0.2?mg?kg?1). The mean dietary selenium intake was calculated to be 60?µg?day?1, which is at the lower end but within the range recommended by the Superior Health Council in Belgium (60–70?µg?day?1), and adequate according to the 55?µg?day?1 recommended by the Scientific Committee on Food (SCF) of the European Commission. The major sources of selenium intake are meat and meat products (31%), fish and shellfish (20%), pasta and rice (12%), and bread and breakfast cereals (11%).  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to evaluate the intake of selenium, total and inorganic arsenic and the bioaccessibility of arsenic in diets of Mexican schoolchildren using an in vitro method. RESULTS: Total and inorganic arsenic concentrations in the diets ranged from 0.05 to 1.15 mg kg?1 dry weight (DW) and from 0.023 to 0.088 mg kg?1 DW respectively, while selenium levels were between 0.08 and 0.20 mg kg?1 DW. Daily intake of total and inorganic arsenic ranged from 0.15 to 10.49 µg day?1 kg?1 body weight (BW) and from 0.06 to 1.11 µg day?1 kg?1 BW respectively, while that of selenium varied from 0.29 to 2.63 µg day?1 kg?1 BW. Bioaccessibility of total and inorganic arsenic ranged from 4 to 97% (mean 44 ± 21.5%) and from 33 to 97% (mean 71 ± 22.5%) respectively. CONCLUSION: Inorganic arsenic levels in the diets were low. ABSTRACT

This survey describes the occurrence of Ethephon (ETH) and Fosetyl in fruits intended for export produced in the São Francisco Valley, Brazil. The determination of these compounds was carried out by the QuPPe-method (Quick Polar Pesticides Method), which was optimised and successfully validated according to the SANTE/11813/2017. From January 2016 to December 2018 a total of 1048 samples were analysed for ETH residues. In 547 (53%) of the samples, residues below the EU MRL of 1 mg kg?1 were present. In 17 samples (2%) ETH residues were above 1 mg kg?1. Overall, the mean ETH level decreased after 2016. Analyses of fosetyl showed that (18%) of 109 mango samples were positive for this compound. Phosphonic acid was found in concentrations ranging from 0.12 to 3.2 mg kg?1 and 5% of the measurements were above the EU MRL of 2 mg kg?1. The results emphasise the quality control of fruits produced in this region.  相似文献

Aluminium content of foods, as well as dietary aluminium intake of the Greek adult population, was determined using graphite furnace atomic absorption spectroscopy after microwave sample digestion and food consumption data. Al content ranged from 0.02 to 741.2?mg?kg?1, with spices, high-spice foods, cereal products, vegetables and pulses found to be high in Al. Differences in aluminium content were found between different food classes from Greece and those from some other countries. Aluminium intake of Greeks is 3.7?mg/day based on DAFNE Food Availability Databank, which uses data from the Household Budget Surveys. On the other hand, according to the per capita food consumption data collected by both national and international organisations, Al intake is 6.4?mg?day?1. Greek adult population has an Al intake lower than the Provisional Tolerable Weekly Intake of 7?mg?kg?1 body weight established by EFSA. Cereals and vegetables are the main Al contributors, providing 72.4% of daily intake.  相似文献

The aim of this work was to determine Ni, Cr, Cu, Zn, Pb, and As levels in raw milk and Oaxaca and ranchero type cheeses, produced in areas irrigated with waste water from Puebla in Mexico. Milk results showed a mean Pb level of 0.03 mg kg?1, which is above the maximum limit as set by Codex Alimentarius and the European Commission standards. For As a mean value of 0.12 mg kg?1 in milk was obtained. Mean As and Pb levels in milk were below the Mexican standard. Milk whey and ranchero cheese had mean Pb levels of 0.07 and 0.11 mg kg?1, respectively. As was higher in Oaxaca and ranchero cheese at 0.17 and 0.16 mg kg?1, respectively. It was concluded that cheeses made from cow’s milk from areas irrigated with waste water are contaminated with Pb and As, which may represent a health risk.  相似文献

A total of 256 individual food samples were collected in Hong Kong for aluminium testing. Most of food samples were analysed in ready-to-eat form. High aluminium levels were found in steamed bread/bun/cake (mean: 100–320 mg kg?1), some bakery products such as muffin, pancake/waffle, coconut tart and cake (mean: 250, 160, 120 and 91 mg kg?1, respectively), and jellyfish (ready-to-eat form) (mean: 1200 mg kg?1). The results demonstrated that aluminium-containing food additives have been widely used in these food products. The average dietary exposure to aluminium for a 60 kg adult was estimated to be 0.60 mg kg?1 bw week?1, which amounted to 60% of the new PTWI established by JECFA. The main dietary source was “steamed bread/bun/cake”, which contributed to 60% of the total exposure, followed by “bakery products” and “jellyfish”, which contributed to 23 and 10% of the total exposure, respectively. However, the estimation did not include the intake of aluminium from natural food sources, food contact materials or other sources (e.g. drinking water). Although the results indicated that aluminium it is unlikely to cause adverse health effect for the general population, the risk to some populations who regularly consume foods with aluminium-containing food additives cannot be ruled out.  相似文献

The levels of inorganic and organic arsenic have been determined in a total of 86 samples of crustacea which included School prawns (Metapenaeus macleayi), King prawns (Penaeus plebejus), Royal Red prawns (Hymenopenaeus sibogae), Eastern Common crayfish (Jasus verreauxii), Blue Swimmer crab (Portunus pelagicus) and Mud crab (Scylla serrata). Most samples were obtained from New South Wales coastal waters and the remainder were purchased at the Sydney fish markets. Inorganic arsenic was isolated by distillation as the chloride and determined by an atomic absorption-hydride generation method. Organic arsenic was determined on the remaining solution by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry after digestion of the organic matter with a mixture of nitric, perchloric and sulphuric acids (25 + 5 +1). The Eastern Common crayfish contained the highest levels of inorganic and organic arsenic with ranges of 0.12–0.41 mg kg?1 and 11.9–54.1 mg kg?1 (wet basis), respectively. Of the remaining samples, 85% contained inorganic arsenic at <0.1 mg kg?1 and 97% contained organic arsenic at <7 mg kg?1. The absolute sensitivity and detection limit of the inorganic arsenic method was estimated to be 3 ng (0.03 mg kg?1). For the organic arsenic method the sensitivity and detection limits were estimated as 0.5 and 0.8 mg kg?1, respectively.  相似文献

A group of ten dairy cows were treated for warble-fly with the organophosphorus pesticide, crufomate. The persistence of crufomate in the milk of the cows after treatment was determined by gas-liquid chromatography with a phosphorus-specific thermionic detector. The mean crufomate concentration in milk dropped below the Codex maximum limit of 0.05 mg kg?1 within 24 h of treatment. Crufomate was found to accumulate in the fat fraction of milk, giving rise to a higher concentration of crufomate in milk products, relative to the concentration in whole milk.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Medicinal plants commonly used and traded in Turkey were monitored for their cadmium and selected micronutrient (copper, iron, manganese and zinc) content. RESULTS: Cadmium was not detected in any sample of licorice extract, linden flowers or nettle leaves. However, in the rest of the samples, cadmium was found in the range of 7–126 µg kg?1, with the highest concentration in chamomile leaf. Of all the monitored trace elements, the highest concentration found was 520 mg kg?1 iron in zahter. The highest copper, manganese and zinc concentrations were found in rose hips (24 mg kg?1), Turkish oregano (58 mg kg?1) and zahter (50 mg kg?1), respectively. CONCLUSION: The results of the present study reveal that cadmium and trace element concentrations in medicinal plants commonly used as traditional medicines in Turkey are well below the critical levels. BACKGROUND: A simple and quick on‐site test for trace levels of cadmium (Cd) in food is needed because of the human toxicity of this heavy metal. We developed an immunochromatography kit which uses the antigen‐antibody complex reaction between the Cd–ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (Cd–EDTA) complex and an anti‐Cd–EDTA antibody. We previously reported the successful use of this kit to determine Cd concentrations in brown rice with respect to the international standard: 0.4 mg kg?1. Here, we measured, using this immunochromatography kit, Cd concentrations in crops with lower international standards than rice. RESULTS: Cadmium extracted with 0.1 mol L?1 HCl from wheat grain and fresh eggplant was purified sufficiently using an ion‐exchange column treatment. Appropriate HCl extraction rates and dilution rates for the column eluate were selected; Cd concentrations in wheat grain and fresh eggplant were determined successfully by immunochromatography with respect to the international standards of 0.2 mg kg?1 and 0.05 mg kg?1 fresh weight, respectively. CONCLUSION: Approximate Cd concentrations in wheat grain and fresh eggplant can be monitored easily and quickly by this method at locations where facilities for acid digestion and precision analysis are not available. In total 307 egg and 275 liver samples were examined for nicarbazin and 365 eggs for diclazuril over a 30-month period. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay methods used for quantification were validated according to European Commission Decision 2002/657/EC. Non-compliant samples were confirmed by LC-MS/MS. Mean diclazuril concentrations in egg samples were 0.31?µg?kg?1, which is below the MRL. In only one egg sample, 2.26?µg?kg?1 was determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, although confirmation by LC-MS/MS gave a value of 1.6?µg?kg?1. Mean nicarbazin levels determined were 1.85?µg?kg?1 in egg and 21.1?µg?kg?1 in liver samples. Four samples, one egg and three livers, yielded elevated concentrations of nicarbazin, but only in the egg sample the LC-MS/MS method confirmed nicarbazin (106?µg?kg?1) above the MRL value.  相似文献

Nineteen samples of food in glass jars with twist closures were collected by the national food inspectors at Danish food producers and a few importers, focusing on fatty food, such as vegetables in oil, herring in dressing or pickle, soft spreadable cheese, cream, dressings, peanut butter, sauces and infant food. The composition of the plasticizers in the gaskets was analysed by gas chromatography with flame ionization detection (GC-FID) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Epoxidized soybean oil (ESBO) and phthalates were determined in the homogenized food samples. ESBO was the principal plasticizer in five of the gaskets; in 14 it was phthalates. ESBO was found in seven of the food samples at concentrations from 6 to 100 mg kg?1. The highest levels (91–100 mg kg?1) were in oily foods such as garlic, chilli or olives in oil. Phthalates, i.e. di-iso-decylphthalate (DIDP) and di-iso-nonylphthalates (DINP), were found in seven samples at 6–173 mg kg?1. The highest concentrations (99–173 mg kg?1) were in products of garlic and tomatoes in oil and in fatty food products such as sauce béarnaise and peanut butter. For five of the samples the overall migration from unused lids to the official fatty food simulant olive oil was determined and compared with the legal limit of 60 mg kg?1. The results ranged from 76 to 519 mg kg?1 and as a consequence the products were withdrawn from the market.  相似文献

An extensive UK survey of styrene monomer levels in styrene based plastic packaging materials and their contained foods (133 samples) has been carried out, examining a wide range of retail foods of different brand names and including yogurts, creams, salads, coleslaws, soft cheeses, margarines, hot and cold beverages from dispensing machines, spreads, fresh and cooked meats, candied fruits, fresh strawberries, and take-away ‘fast’ foods. Analysis by headspace gas chromatography of styrene levels in the plastic containers showed levels of monomer ranging from 16 to 1300 mg kg?1 although the majority of containers (73%) had styrene levels in the range 100–500 mg kg?1 and only five plastic tubs had levels exceeding 1000 mg kg?1. Analysis of the food contents of the plastic containers by automated headspace gas chromatography with single ion monitoring mass spectrometric detection showed levels of the monomer ranging from < 1 μg kg?1 to 200 μg kg?1, although the majority of foods (77%) had styrene levels below 10 μg kg?1, and 26% of the total number analysed had levels below 1 μg kg?1.  相似文献

A survey of the levels of some essential and non-essential trace elements in different types of rice available on the Swedish retail market was carried out in 2001–03. The types of rice included long and short grain, brown, white, and parboiled white. The mean levels found were: chromium (Cr)?=?0.008 mg kg?1, copper (Cu)?=?1.9 mg kg?1, iron (Fe)?=?4.7 mg kg?1, manganese (Mn)?=?16 mg kg?1, platinum (Pt)?<?0.0003 mg kg?1, rubidium (Rb)?=?3.3 mg kg?1, selenium (Se) =0.1 mg kg?1; and zinc (Zn)?=?15 mg kg?1. Inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was used for the determination of Pt, Rb, and Se, after acid digestion. All other elements were determined using atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) after dry ashing. Intake calculations were performed and it was concluded that rice may contribute considerably to the daily requirements of the essential elements Cu, Fe, Mn, Se, and Zn if rice consumption is high. The levels of some elements, e.g. Fe and Mn, were significantly higher in brown compared with white rice.  相似文献

The following levels were found: non‐protein nitrogen 5.2–10.2 g kg?1 DM, protein nitrogen 35.3–42.4 g kg?1 DM, lysine 50.7–76.3 g kg?1 protein DM, histidine 17.8–24.8 g kg?1 protein DM, tyrosine 22.6–30.0 g kg?1 protein DM, protein 25.9–31.9% DM, in vitro protein digestibility 89.3–95.6%, vitamin B1 5.9–10.3 mg kg?1 DM, vitamin B2 1.1–3.7 mg kg?1 DM, sucrose 11.6–25.4 g kg?1 DM, raffinose 4.1–10.3 g kg?1 DM, stachyose 10.7–26.7 g kg?1 DM, verbascose 0.0–26.7 g kg?1 DM, total α‐galactosides 22.6–63.4 g kg?1 DM, trypsin inhibitor activity 0.8–8.4 TIU mg?1 DM, inositol hexaphosphate 2.3–6.5 g kg?1 DM, inositol pentaphosphate 0.1–1.8 g kg?1 DM and total inositol phosphates 2.8–7.1 g kg?1 DM. Peas with yellow cotyledons had the highest trypsin inhibitor activities, those with light green cotyledons had the highest lysine contents, and those with dark green cotyledons were the richest in vitamins B1 and B2. Peas with brown testae had the lowest verbascose and sucrose contents, while they were the richest in inositol hexaphosphate. Smaller peas were characterised by the highest protein nitrogen contents as well as the highest contents of vitamins B1 and B2, verbascose and inositol pentaphosphate. Peas of medium size showed the lowest verbascose, α‐galactoside and vitamin B2 contents. Bigger peas showed the lowest inositol pentaphosphate contents. © 2003 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A survey of the iron and tin content of twelve different types of canned fruit juices and nectars revealed that, of the 122 cans examined, 23 (or 18·9%) contianed iron in excess of 15 mg kg?1 and 16 (or 13·1%) contained tin in excess of 250 mg kg?1. Apple juice and tomato juice were found to contain particularly high levels of iron, the maximum level recorded being 42·6 mg kg?1. Mango juice and orange juice exhibited significant non-compliance with recommended Codex tolerance limits for tin. Statistical analysis showed that, at the 5% probability level, the mean iron contents of products packed in completely unlacquered and end-lacquered cans were not significantly different from each other, but were significantly lower than the mean iron content of products packed in fully lacquered cans. The mean tin content fell in the order unlacquered > end-lacquered > fully lacquered cans.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this study, the levels of arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) have been determined in the flesh of two species of fish, sardine (Sardina pilchardus) and swordfish (Xiphias gladius) fished in the Algerian coast. Quantification of As, Cd and Pb was carried out using an ICP-MS method and the results were compared with the thresholds set by national and international regulatory bodies. In a further step, the risk to consumers was assessed using estimated daily intake (EDI), target hazard quotient (THQ) and hazard index (HI).The average concentration of As and Pb was higher in sardine (1.82; 0.10 mg kg?1 w.w., respectively), than in swordfish (1.10 mg kg?1 w.w.; not determined), whereas the concentration recorded for Cd was the same for both species (0.01 mg kg?1 w.w.). These concentrations are below maximum limits set in regulations. The THQs and HI were widely below 1. The consumption of these fish does not pose risk to the consumers.  相似文献
