Some approaches to CAD/CAM software are presented based on the experience gained by the authors from the development and implementation of several such systems. The metamonitoring system MEMO and two examples of its implementation in mechanical and civil engineering are described. MEMO implies the family of complex multi-task software which can be used as a tool for building integrated packages and as a monitoring system for controlling the problem solution processes. MEMO can be considered a kernel of the supporting environment for CAD/CAM systems software development and implementation.  相似文献

PHIDAS is an application-independent database management system used together with a device-independent software package for graphic I/O within the integrated CAD/CAM system PHILIKON, which covers the detailing of sheet metal parts, of tool design and NC programming. All modules are linked together via the database which acts as the centre of a growing system. The architecture of PHIDAS is in accordance with the ANSI-3 schema-concept having a conceptual schema and an external subschema based on the network model of CODASYL, and an internal schema for the physical tuning which is particularly suited for engineering databases. Machining process planning involves the formation of a set of directions describing the machining operations required to transform raw stock into a finished part. Conventional process planning, performed manually, relies on the knowledge and competence of an experienced process planner and tends to be time consuming and error prone. In the past two decades, much effort has been spent on improving process planning by utilizing the power of a computer to emulate the capabilities of an experienced planner. During the same period, computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software has been developed to enhance design productivity and to assist the NC code generation facets of the machining process. The entire planning process may be automated be integrating CAD and CAM using computer-aided process planing (CAPP). The research described in this paper outlines the design and development of an intelligent CAPP system integrating two commercial CAD and CAM software packages, Autocad and Mastercam.  相似文献

Aircraft designing poses special problems in CAD (computer-aided design), because most CAD programs use basic geometric shapes as building blocks. Since it is difficult to describe aircraft components using basic geometric shapes, it is often necessary to input a large number of physical coordinates to describe the shape of aircraft components. By defining wings or fuselages using design parameters instead of physical coordinates, much time and energy is saved in the CAD process.

A microcomputer program called AeroCAD was developed to simplify the aircraft design process. AeroCAD uses wing and fuselage design parameters as inputs. This makes it possible to design a wing or fuselage with a fraction of the values of conventional CAD programs.

AeroCAD allows the user to build an aircraft from an existing database inventory of aircraft components; fuselage, wings, and tails. The inventory consists of components the user has previously created. The computer-generated aircraft can be rotated, translated, and scaled at the user's command.

Another program was written so Numerical Control coding could be generated from AeroCAD's data base. This made it possible to manufacture a miniature aircraft. The milled model could then be used as a wind-tunnel model.

AeroCAD was written for implementation on a microcomputer to take advantage of quick response times, ease of operation, printer output, and the ability to run AeroCAD on an inexpensive system. AeroCAD was written to have many useful features. The program can display normal color graphics or enhanced graphics on an IBM PC or PS/2.  相似文献

IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications has a long tradition of addressing CAD/CAM problems, a tradition that extends even beyond the well-known special issue on solid modeling. Here, we discuss the conversion of a standard representation for a solid object (for example, a boundary representation) into a set of complex message-passing instructions for manufacturing the object by a distributed system-a swarm of robots. Nanotechnology is currently hampered by a lack of manufacturing processes capable of both high throughput and high resolution. Direct-writing systems such as electron beam or scanning-probe microscopy are serial and slow but achieve high resolution, whereas various lithographic techniques are parallel and fast but typically have resolutions on the order of the tens of nanometers. Self-assembly, that is, the spontaneous assembly of components into the desired structures, is a promising concept that might lead to a revolution in nanomanufacturing.  相似文献

CAD programs usually employ menus for enhancing user-machine interaction. This paper describes an approach which enables the user to obtain improved menu organization. The approach is based on recording the sequence of operations which take place during a design session or several sessions, and modifying the menus accordingly. The user is also allowed to further modify the menus interactively. This capability improves the performance of the designer, especially when using complex CAD or expert systems which offer a large variety of options. The self-adapting menus simplify the selection process, and result in custom-made software which is more suited for the individual user.  相似文献
