Duplex stainless steels are successful in a variety of applications such as the food industry, petrochemicals and plants for desalination of seawater, where high corrosion resistance and high mechanical strength are required. However, the beneficial microstructure may change during fusion welding steps, and it can compromise the performance of these materials. Friction stir welding is a solid-state process avoiding typical problems concerning solidification such as solidification cracks, liquation and segregation of alloying elements. Superduplex stainless steels can avoid unbalanced proportions of ferrite and austenite, formation of secondary deleterious phases and grain growth of ferrite in the heat-affected zone. Consolidated friction stir welded joints with full penetration 6 mm thick were obtained for UNS S32101 and S32205 duplex and S32750 and S32760 superduplex stainless steels. The friction stir welds were submitted to tensile tests indicating an improvement of strength in welded joints, showing increased yield and tensile strength for all studied cases. Regarding the microstructural characterization, an outstanding grain refinement was observed in the welded joint, achieving grain sizes as small as 1 μm. This refinement was associated with the combination of microstructural restoration mechanisms in the dual-phase microstructure promoted by severe deformation associated with a high temperature during the welding process.  相似文献

The effects of welding parameters on material consolidation are examined during friction stir butt welding of 2 mm Al 5083 alloy aluminium sheet with a surface cladding of Al 3025 alloy, which was co-cast from the melt. The influence of welding parameters on joint consolidation is investigated when tool revolutions per minute, travel speed and penetration depth were varied. It was found that modifying the pin of the welding tool to have a two-flat profile improves material consolidation and avoids defect formation during welding, and optimum welding parameters involve a combination of high tool rotation speed and travel speed. Optical and electron microscopy revealed that the integrity of the surface cladding layer could be maintained during friction stir welding while avoiding defect formation within the stir zone of the weld. The tensile strength of the joint was ~58% of the base material due to softening within the stir zone.  相似文献

Abstract

This study investigates the mechanical properties and microstructure of friction stir butt welded high strength/ductility multilayered steel consisting of 15 alternating layers of SUS 301 austenitic stainless steel (eight layers) and SUS 420J2 martensitic stainless steel (seven layers) with a total thickness of 1·2 mm. With optimised welding parameters, defect free welds with an ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of 1240 MPa and a fracture elongation of 13% were accomplished. This corresponds to a joint efficiency of 90%. In this case, fracture occurred in the heat affected zone as a result of a very pronounced hardness drop in the martensitic layers resulting from the formation of a large amount of grain boundary precipitates, which were formed at temperatures ~750°C slightly below Ac1. By applying post-weld heat treatment, the hardness drop in the martensitic layers was removed and the tensile properties were enhanced to UTS of 1310 MPa (95% joint efficiency) and a fracture elongation of 22%.  相似文献

Abstract

A series of 4, 6 and 8 mm DH36 steel welds were produced using optimum conditions for friction stir welding (FSW). Comparator welds in the same thickness from the same plates were produced using a single sided single pass process submerged arc welds (SAW). This work was carried out to evaluate the mechanical properties of FSW material with a view to its possible application in a shipbuilding production process route.

Overall, the performance of the FSW material was superior to the SAW comparators. Areas such as distortion and fatigue were particularly positive in the FSW material. An 8 mm thick plate was also produced using two FSW passes, one from either side, and it was found to have superior toughness and fatigue performance when compared to the single sided 8 mm FSW material. Some of these benefits are thought to have originated from the internal overlap zone between the two passes.  相似文献

以6mm和8mm聚氯乙稀板材为研究对象,用搅拌摩擦焊方法进行了工艺可焊性试验。试验证明,一定厚度的塑料板,不开坡口,用搅拌摩擦焊方法可一次焊成。虽然影响接头质量的因素很多,但只要焊接参数选择恰当,就能获得令人满意的焊接接头。  相似文献

The results of testing friction stir welding quality in relation to EN AC-43200 (AK9) and EN AC-45000 (AK64) aluminium casting alloys are presented. The test joints were made with the use of a welding machine constructed on the basis of numerically controlled milling machines. The assessment of the joint quality was made based on visual inspection, mechanical testing, weldment structure analysis and hardness tests. The purpose of the investigation was to discover the possibility of friction stir welding of casting alloys and the influence of welding conditions on joint properties and structure. The test results show good weldability of aluminium casting alloys by the FSW method. Sound welds can be obtained in a relatively wide range of welding parameters while the weld strength is satisfactory. In order to obtain the highest quality joints, the workpieces must be pressed onto the other, while the welding process cannot run with excessively high speed. The best mechanical properties of the joints were achieved when the friction process was conducted at a rotational speed of the mixing tool of 900 rpm.  相似文献

Copper plates ,brass plates and copper/brass plates were friction stir welded with various parameters. Experimental results show that the microstructure of the weld is characterized by its much finer grains as contrasted with the coarse grains of parent materials and the heat-affected zones are very narrow. The microhardness of the copper weld is a little higher than that of parent plate. The microhardness of brass weld is about 25% higher than that of parent material. The tensile strength of copper joints increases with increasing welding speed in the test range. The range of parameters to obtain good welds for copper is much wider than that for brass. When different materials were welded, the position of copper plate before welding affected the quality of FSW joints. If the copperplate was put on the advancing side of weld, the good quality of weld could be got under proper parameters.  相似文献

Usually, a workpiece is deformed during friction stir welding due to high applied loads. Consequently, fully and consolidated friction stir-welded joints as well as tool life time can be affected promoting unscheduled manufacturing stops, which favour decreasing the welding productivity. Furthermore, the workforce is dislocated to not predicted maintenance steps. This work proposes the development of a special ceramic backing to joining and processing material using FSW technologies. Four ceramic deposits were tested over a steel plate, which allowed selecting those with less porosity and, thus, better strength. This backing allowed us to obtain full penetration welds for duplex stainless steels, to high forces during engagement for high-strength low-alloy steels and to obtain consolidated aluminium–steel dissimilar joints. For the last one, there was not adherence of the soft material in the workpiece. In addition, the ceramic backing allowed us to confine the heat and plasticized metal, as well as develop established welding parameters.  相似文献

通过大量试验研究了防锈铝LF21搅拌摩擦焊接技术,深入分析了防锈铝搅拌摩擦焊接头的金相组织和力学性能,并探讨了焊接参数对组织性能的影响.对于3mm厚的防锈铝板,优化的搅拌头材料为ICr18Ni9Ti,形状为圆锥带凹面形,轴肩尺寸为φ12mm,焊针跟部直径为4mm,焊针端部直径为2.8mm,焊针高度为2.7mm.优化的焊接工艺参数范围为旋转速度950-1 500 r/min,焊接速度37.5~60mm/min.研究的成果可应用于有色金属材料搅拌摩擦焊接参数的优化,推动中国搅拌摩擦焊接技术在铝焊接中的应用.  相似文献

Friction stir welding (FSW) is a new solid-state welding technology that has been used successfully in many joining applications. A common problem that arises when welding two sheets is the presence of a gap between the sheets. Gaps may be due to improper fixturing, imprecision in the processes used to manufacture the sheets, etc. When the FSW tool encounters a gap, material can possibly escape from the processing zone and the welded part's effective cross-sectional area around the gap will decrease. Both of these effects can possibly cause an unsuitable weld. This paper develops a monitoring algorithm to detect gaps in friction stir butt welding operations in real time (i.e., during the operation). Experimental studies are conducted to determine how the process parameters (e.g., tool rotation rate and tool traverse speed) and the gap width affect the welding process; particularly, the plunge force (i.e., the force acting vertically down on the part). The proposed monitoring algorithm examines the filtered plunge force in the frequency domain to determine the presence of a gap. Several experimental studies are conducted for 2024 aluminum with a variety of process parameters and the monitoring algorithm is shown to be able to reliably detect the presence of gaps in friction stir butt welding operations for tool traverse speeds below 4.233 mm/s and gap sizes above 0.3048 mm.  相似文献

This study presents three thermal 3D models for bobbin tool Friction stir welding (FSW) implemented in Comsol and Matlab. The models use thermal pseudo-mechanical (TPM) heat sources and include tool rotation, an analytic shear layer model and ambient heat sinks like the machine and surrounding air. A new transient moving geometry approach has been implemented. It includes the full tool motion along the weld line, while the other two models use fixed geometry with and without moving heat source.The computational effort is small for all three models. The steady state model can be solved in approximately 5 min on a state of the art workstation. Experiments on the FlexiStir experimental welding unit have been carried out to validate the models’ outputs. The predictions of all models are in excellent agreement with each other and the experiment.  相似文献

Abstract

In this study, filling friction stir welding was used to remove the exit hole of friction stir welding lap joints made from AA5456 sheets. For this purpose, the exit holes were filled by consumable pins with various geometries and different pin applying methods. Then, the structures and mechanical properties of the resulting joints were investigated. Results showed that the strength of 7% higher than the strength of the joint with the non-filled exit hole, ~91% of the corresponding defect free joints, is obtainable with this technique. The best results were found by a pin with 11° cone angle, 8?mm diameter and 7?mm length, and with a 6?mm plunge without rotation.  相似文献

Abstract

This study presents an approach to model the shear layer in bobbin tool friction stir welding. The proposed CFD model treats the material in the weld zone as a highly viscous non-Newtonian shear thinning liquid. A customised parametric solver is used to solve the highly non-linear Navier–Stokes equations. The contact state between tool and workpiece is determined by coupling the torque within the CFD model to a thermal pseudomechanical model. An existing analytic shear layer model is calibrated using artificial neural networks trained with the predictions of the CFD model. Validation experiments have been carried out using 4 mm thick sheets of AA 2024. The results show that the predicted torque and the shear layer shape are accurate. The combination of numerical and analytical modelling can reduce the computational effort significantly. It allows use of the calibrated analytic model inside an iterative process optimisation procedure.  相似文献

试验研究了8 mm厚2195-T8铝锂合金板材搅拌摩擦焊工艺,分析了不同搅拌针结构设计对焊缝内部质量的影响,研究了工艺参数对接头表面成形的影响,测试了接头的力学性能。结果表明,使用圆锥螺纹+三个斜面结构的搅拌针焊接,接头内部质量更好;在室温和低温(-196 ℃)条件下,接头抗拉强度和断后伸长率都呈现出随焊接速度的增加先增加后减少的趋势,当焊接速度为100 mm/min时,室温和低温(-196 ℃)下接头抗拉强度、断后伸长率都达到最高值,接头抗拉强度分别为428 MPa,538 MPa,断后伸长率分别为4.9%,7.4%;接头断裂位置位于热影响区,断口呈45°剪切断裂,断裂部位有明显颈缩。  相似文献

针对中国装备制造类企业在近20年中推广应用搅拌摩擦焊技术遇到的挑战和难题,系统综述了搅拌摩擦焊20多年来在装备研制、搅拌工具研发、可焊材料、焊接工艺、产品应用、焊接成形机理等应用研究与基础研究领域的发展情况。通过对装备制造类企业的系统调研,发现搅拌摩擦焊工程应用推进所面临的瓶颈问题主要在于基础性研究深度不够、对中高端设备系统性力学要求把握不准、高效低成本搅拌工具研发能力不足、高端专用工艺研发力量薄弱、操作技能型人才没有系统培养规范等5个方面,并指出整合研究资源、加强基础研究、建立拥有从设备研制、工艺开发、来料加工、人才培训等整体解决方案的高科技公司是有效解决上述瓶颈问题的根本途径,为搅拌摩擦焊接方法在中国装备制造行业未来高效工程应用和研发指明了方向。  相似文献
