The Croatian Chemical Society was established in 1926 and has developed over the decades into a society that actively supports all chemical activities in Croatia. The Society has eight divisions, the youngest of which, the Division of Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, was established in 2012 and immediately became a member of the European Federation of Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC). The mission of the Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry Division is the promotion and development of scientific, professional, and educational activities within the medicinal chemistry community in Croatia, as well as to build partnerships and collaborations with other primarily EU‐based medicinal chemistry societies. In Croatia, medicinal chemistry research is ongoing at several institutes, including the University of Zagreb (Faculty of Science, Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, and Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology), national institutes of science (Ru?er Bo?kovi? Institute), and private‐sector drug discovery companies (CRO Fidelta Ltd.). In order to effectively exchange knowledge, ideas, and scientific results, Croatian medicinal chemists meet twice annually.  相似文献

The second biannual Alpine Winter Conference on Medicinal and Synthetic Chemistry (short: Alpine Winter Conference) took place January 19–23, 2020, in St. Anton in western Austria. There were roughly 180 attendees from around the globe, making this mid-sized conference particularly conducive to networking and exchanging ideas over the course of four and a half days. This short note is a somewhat personalized review of the U.S.-Japan Conference on the Application of Process Systems engineering to Chemical Technology Assessment held in Kyoto, Japan, 23–27 June. This is essentially a general review of progress during the past ten years both in the chemistry of the glycerides of fats and oils and in the chemistry and nature of their constituent fatty acids. Applications of some of the newer research methods are described and discussed. This paper was presented at the Symposium on the Chemistry & Metabolism of Fats, held at the Rochester meeting of the American Chemical Society. Conventional electrowinning of metals such as zine and copper from 1–1.5 kmol m–3 H2SO4 electrolytes involves anodic oxygen evolution at Pb alloy/PbO2 anodes operating at 200–800 A m–2. The oxygen overpotential, estimated to be about 0.6 V, constitutes a significant proportion of the cell voltage (typically 2.5 V for Cu and 3.3 V for Zn). The objective of this work was to lower the anode overpotential and so decrease the process specific energy requirements, by devising new anode materials based on: (1) PTFE-bonded PbO2 catalysts, supported on Pb–Ag alloys; (2) modification of the pore structure of porous electrodes to maximize the utilization of the available surface without the use of PTFE bonding. Both methods are shown to produce significant benefits in lowering oxygen overpotentials, though the latter technique has been tested only in alkaline electrolytes, as yet. However, with the former approach, substrate oxidation through the porous catalyst layer has been found to cause catalyst shedding after>60 h at 1 kA m–2, though careful pre-oxidation of the anode substrate appears to extend the anode life.Paper presented at the 2nd International Symposium on Electrolytic Bubbles organized jointly by the Electrochemical Technology Group of the Society of Chemical Industry and the Electrochemistry Group of the Royal Society of Chemistry and held at Imperial College, London, 31st May and 1st June 1988.  相似文献

A historical overview of key events that led, 50 years ago, to the foundation of the European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC), and the impact this had on promoting and structuring medicinal chemistry as a discipline in Europe. EFMC, together with the growing number of newly established national medicinal chemistry societies or divisions, created the framework for networking and knowledge exchange. This includes organizing conferences, in particular its biennial ‘International Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC-ISMC)’. Several interesting trends can be identified from EFMC meetings, EFMC governing bodies, or the federation's recognition of scientific excellence, that highlight changes in the medicinal chemistry community over the last decades, related to affiliation, gender, young scientists, communication tools, and embracing scientific advances.  相似文献

It is shown how the various components of the overpotential due to an attached bubble on an electrode can be separated and estimated. By considering the resistance increments due to the presence on the electrode surface of a bubble, obtained from impedance measurements, it is possible to determine the predominant potential distribution which controls the gas evolution. A relationship between the measured overpotential and the diameter of the bubble is established. The time evolution of the overpotential due to a growing bubble is modelled in the case of the limitation of the bubble growth by dissolved gas diffusion in the solution. A series of aromatic poly(1,2,3‐triazolium iodide)s were synthesized by step growth polymerization of dipropargyl bisphenol A with aliphatic and aromatic diazides followed by quantitative or partial N‐alkylation of the main‐chain 1,2,3‐triazole groups using iodomethane. After characterization by 1H NMR spectroscopy, SEC and DSC the corresponding self‐standing membranes were obtained by hot pressing. Poly(1,2,3‐triazolium iodide) membranes were converted to the corresponding hydroxide‐containing membranes by anion exchange. Structure–property correlations are discussed based on the evolution of water uptake and ionic conductivity with respect to the ionic exchange capacities of the different materials having distinct chemical structure, quaternization degree and counter‐anion structure. Poly(1,2,3‐triazolium hydroxide) anion exchange membranes exhibit water uptakes below 150% and ionic conductivity in the hydrated state up to 4 mS cm?1 for ionic exchange capacities up to 3.2 meq g?1. © 2019 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献
