The thermal conductivity of argon between 107 and 425 K has been measured in a transient hot-wire instrument. The results in the limit zero density have been employed to assess the accuracy of the instrument using exact kinetic theory expressions and has been found to be better than ±0.5%. The results of the measurements of the thermal conductivity coefficients of nitrogen at 298.15 K from atmospheric pressure up to 1 GPa are reported. The experimental values are used to test the Modified Enskog Theory and the corresponding state principle. Results are given of experimental investigations of the coefficient of thermal conductivity of samples of sandstone at hydrostatic pressures of up to 400 MPa and temperatures of 275–523 K. It is demonstrated that the pressure increase causes a weaker temperature dependence of thermal conductivity. The paper discusses the prediction of the thermal conductivity of gas mixtures containing polyatomic components at low and moderate density. The prediction scheme adopted is based upon the rigorous kinetic theory of gases and makes use of other thermophysical properties of the pure gases and binary mixtures in the evaluation of the thermal conductivity. Comparisons with accurate experimental data indicate that only for systems in which the mass ratio of the species is near unity and for which inelastic collisions are rare, is a reliable prediction of the mixture thermal conductivity at low density possible. On the other hand, the density dependence of the thermal conductivity is quite accurately represented for most systems. 相似文献

The paper presents new measurements of the thermal conductivity of the binary mixtures of carbon tetrafluoride with helium and argon. Measurements were performed in a transient, hot-wire instrument at a nominal temperature of 27.5°C and over a range of densities (pressure up to 12 MPa). The accuracy is estimated to be 0.4%, deteriorating to 0.7% around the critical density. The paper provides polynomial fits which represent the data with a standard deviation of 0.4%. An analysis in terms of the Monchick-Pereira-Mason theory, with the translational contributions computed on the basis of earlier measurements of the viscosity of these mixtures, leads to a reasonable representation of the composition dependence of the zero-density thermal conductivity; the collision numbers

The temperature and bulk density dependence of the thermal conductivity of commercial aluminosilicate fibrous insulators were studied by using the transient hot wire method. The thermal conductivity of ceramic fibrous insulators in both air and helium gas atmosphere increased with increasing bulk density. At high temperatures, however, the insulators with lower bulk density showed a higher thermal conductivity because of heat radiation. The following experimental relation between thermal conductivity and temperature was obtained for aluminosilicate fibruous insulators: =a exp(b). Relationships are given between the constants a and b and the bulk density.
