Farmyard manure (FYM) applied to rice-growing soils can substitute for industrial fertilizers, but little is known about the influence of FYM on the effectiveness and optimal management for industrial N fertilizers. A field experiment was conducted in northern Vietnam on a degraded soil in the spring season (February to June) and summer season (July to November) to determine the effect of FYM on optimal timing for the first application of urea. The experimental design was a randomized complete block with two rates of basal incorporated FYM (0 or 6 Mg ha–1) in factorial combination with two timings of the first application of 30 kg urea-N ha–1 (basal incorporated before transplanting or delayed until 14 to 16 d after transplanting). The FYM was formed by composting pig manure with rice straw for 3 months. Basal incorporation of FYM, containing 23 kg N ha–1, increased rice grain yield in both seasons. The yield increase cannot be attributed to reduced ammonia loss of applied urea-N, because FYM did not reduce partial pressure of ammonia (pNH3) following urea application in either season. Basal and delayed applications of urea were equally effective in the absence of FYM, but when FYM was applied rice yields in both seasons were higher for delayed (mean = 3.2 Mg ha–1) than basal (mean = 2.9 Mg ha–1) application of urea. Results suggest that recommendations for urea timing in irrigated lowland rice should consider whether farmers apply FYM.  相似文献

Not much is known about the response of lowland rice to K fertilization under Brazilian conditions. A field experiment was conducted during four consecutive years to determine the response of three lowland rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivars to K fertilization on a Low Humic Gley soil. In the first two years, K was broadcast at rates of 0, 42, 84, 126, and 168 kg K ha–1. In the last two years K rates were reduced to 0, 25, 50, 75, and 100 kg K ha–1 and applied in a band. Potassium significantly (P < 0.01) increased grain yields but the response varied from cultivar to cultivar and year to year. Yield responses to K fertilization were superimposed on a general trend of increasing grain yields across the four growing seasons. Mean grain yields increased 14.3% with broadcast application of K in the first two years and 10.4% with banded application of K in the last two years when compared to the control treatments. Extractable soil K increased with K application rate and decreased with soil depth. Potassium was rapidly removed from the soil and yearly broadcast or banded application of K can be expected to result in a significant increase in grain yield of lowland rice in these soils.  相似文献

Field studies on the substitution of N and P fertilizers with farm yard manure (FYM) and their effect on the fertility status of a loamy sand soil in rice—wheat rotation are reported. The treatments consisted of application of 12 t FYM ha–1 in combination with graded levels of N and P. Application of fertilizer N, FYM and their different combinations increased the rice yield significantly. There was no significant response to P application. The magnitude of response to the application of 12 t FYM and its combined use with each of 40 kg and 80 kg N ha–1 was 0.7, 2.2 and 3.9 t ha–1 respectively. Application of 120 kg N ha–1 alone increased the yield by 3.9 t ha–1, and was comparable to rice yield obtained with 80 kg N and 12 t FYM ha–1. This indicated that 12 t FYM ha–1 could be substituted for 40 kg N as inorganic fertilizer in rice. In addition FYM gave residual effects equivalent to 30 kg N and 13.1 kg P ha–1 in the succeeding wheat. The effect of single or combined use of inorganic fertilizers and FYM was significantly reflected in the build up of available N, P, K and organic carbon contents of the soil. The relationship for predicting rice yield and nutrients uptake were also computed and are discussed.  相似文献

Two different field experiments were conducted for two years during 1985–86 and 1986–87 to study the relationship of Mn (0, 15 and 30 kg ha–1) with Fe (0, 15 and 30 kg ha–1) and Zn (0, 10 and 20 kg ha–1) under two fertility (NPK) conditions on yield and quality of opium poppy. The main effect of these micronutrients with respect to latex yield was highest at 15 kg ha–1 of Mn or Fe and 10 kg ha–1 Zn. Increasing the level beyond that resulted in reduction in latex yield. Highest response was observed when 15 kg ha–1 Mn was applied with either 15 kg ha–1 Fe or 10 kg ha–1 Zn. Morphine, codeine, narcotine and thebaine content of the latex was highest with 15 kg Mn, 15 kg Fe or 10 kg ha–1 Zn or the combined application of 15 kg Mn with 15 kg Fe or 10 kg Zn ha–1.CIMAP Publication No. 961  相似文献

Field experiments were conducted in the 1984 and 1985 wet seasons to determine the effect of N fertilizer application method on15N balances and yield for upland rice (Oryza sativa L.) on an Udic Arguistoll in the Philippines. The test cultivars were IR43 and UPLRi-5 in 1984 and IR43 in 1985. Unrecovered15N in15N balances for 70 kg applied urea-N ha–1, which represented N fertilizer losses as gases and movement below 0.5 m soil depth, ranged from 11–58% of the applied N. It was lowest (11–13%) for urea split applied at 30 days after seeding (DS) and at panicle initiation (PI), and highest (27–58%) for treatments receiving basal urea in the seed furrows. In all treatments with basal-applied urea, most N losses occurred before 50 DS.Heavy rainfall in 1985 before rice emergence resulted in large losses of native soil N and fertilizer N by leaching and possibly by denitrification. During the week of seeding, when rainfall was 492 mm, 91 kg nitrate-N ha–1 disappeared from the 0.3-m soil layer in unfertilized plots. Although rainfall following the basal N application was less in 1984 than in 1985, the losses from basal applied urea-N were comparable in the two years. Daily rainfall of 20–25 mm on 3 of the 6 days following basal N application in 1984 may have created a moist soil environment favorable for ammonia volatilization. In both years, highest grain yield was obtained for urea split-applied at 30 DS and at PI. Delayed rather than basal application of N reduced losses of fertilizer N and minimized uptake of fertilizer N by weeds.  相似文献

Rice-flooding fallow, rice-wheat, and double rice-wheat systems were adopted in pot experiment in an annual rotation to investigate the effects of cropping system on N2O emission from rice-based cropping systems. The annual N2O emission from the rice-wheat and the double rice-wheat cropping systems were 4.3 kg N ha–1 and 3.9 kg N ha–1, respectively, higher than that from rice-flooding fallow cropping system, 1.4 kg N ha–1. The average N2O flux was 115 and 118 g N m–2 h–1 for rice season in rice-wheat system and early rice season in double rice-wheat system, respectively, 68.6 and 35.3 g N m–2 h–1 for the late rice season in double rice-wheat system and rice season in rice-flooding fallow, respectively, and only 3.1–5.3 g N m–2 h–1 for winter wheat or flooding fallow season. Temporal variations of N2O emission during rice growing seasons differed and high N2O emission occurred when soil conditions changed from upland crop to flooded rice.  相似文献

Application of higher levels (60 and 90 kg N ha–1) of nitrogen fertilizer (Urea) inhibited the growth ofAzolla pinnata (Bangkok) and blue-green algae (BGA) though the reduction was more in BGA thanAzolla. Inoculation of 500 kg ha–1 of freshAzolla 10 days after transplanting (DAT) in the rice fields receiving 30, 60 and 90 kg N ha–1 as urea produced an average of 16.5, 15.0 and 13.0 t ha–1 fresh biomass ofAzolla at 30 DAT, which contained 31, 31 and 27 kg N ha–1, respectively. The dry mixture of BGA (60%Aulosira, 35%Gloeotrichia and 5% other BGA on fresh weight basis) inoculated in rice field 3 DAT at a rate of 10 kg ha–1 showed a mat formation at 80 DAT with an average fresh biomass of 8.0, 5.8 and 4.2 t ha–1 containing 22, 17 and 12 kg N ha–1, respectively with those N fertilizer doses.Application ofAzolla showed positive responses to rice crop by increasing the panicle number and weight, grain and straw yields and nitrogen uptake in rice significantly at all the levels of chemical nitrogen. But, the BGA inoculation had a significant effect on the grain and straw yields only during the dry season in the treatment where 30 kg N was applied. During the wet season and in the other treatments performed during the dry season no significant increase in yields, yield components and N uptake were observed with BGA.The intercropping ofAzolla and rice in combination with 30, 60 and 90 kg N ha–1 as urea showed the yields, yield attributes and nitrogen uptake in rice at par with those obtained by applying 60, 90 and 120 kg N ha–1 as urea, respectively but, the BGA did not. The analysis of soil from rice field after harvest showed thatAzolla and BGA intercropping with rice in combination with chemical fertilizer significantly increased the organic carbon, available phosphorus and total nitrogen of soil.  相似文献

Anadequate supply of N for a crop depends among others on the amounts of N thataremineralized from the soil organic matter plus the supply of ammonium andnitrateN already present in the soil. The objective of this study was to determine thebehaviour of light fraction organic N (LFN), NH4-N, NO3-Nand total N (TN) in soil in response to different rates of fertilizer Napplication. The 0–5, 5–10, 10–15 and 15–30cm layers of a thin Black Chernozemic soil under bromegrass(Bromus inermis Leyss) at Crossfield, Alberta, Canada, weresampled after 27 annual applications of ammonium nitrate at rates of 0, 56,112,168, 224 and 336 kg N ha–1. The concentration andmass of TN and LFN in the soil, and the proportion of LFN mass within the TNmass usually increased with N rates up to 224 kg Nha–1. The increase in TN mass and LFN mass per unit ofNadded was generally maximum at 56 kg N ha–1 anddeclined with further increases in the rate of N application. The percentchangein response to N application was much greater for the LFN mass than for the TNmass for all the N rates and all soil depths that were sampled. Mineral N intheform of NH4-N and NO3-N did not accumulate in the soil at 112 kg N ha–1 rates, whereas theiraccumulation increased markedly with rates of 168 kg Nha–1. In conclusion, long-term annual fertilization at 112 kg N ha–1 to bromegrass resulted insubstantial increase in the TN and LFN in soil, with no accumulation ofNH4-N and NO3-N down the depth. The implication of thesefindings is that grasslands for hay can be managed by appropriate Nfertilization rates to increase the level of organic N in soil.  相似文献

A field experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of winter management and N fertilization on N2O emission from a double rice-based cropping system. A rice field was either cropped with milk vetch (plot V) or left fallow (plot F) during the winter between rice crops. The milk vetch was incorporated in situ when the plot was prepared for rice transplanting. Then the plots V and F were divided into two sub-plots, which were then fertilized with 276 kg urea-N ha–1 (referred to as plot VN and plot FN) or not fertilized (referred to as plot VU and plot FU). N2O emission was measured periodically during the winter season and double rice growing seasons. The average N2O flux was 11.0 and 18.1 g N m–2 h–1 for plot V and plot F, respectively, during winter season. During the early rice growing period, N2O emission from plot VN averaged 167 g N m–2 h–1, which was eight- to fifteen-fold higher than that from the other three treatments (17.8, 21.0 and 10.8 g N m–2 h–1 for plots VU, FN, and FU, respectively). During the late rice growing period, the mean N2O flux was 14.5, 11.1, 12.1 and 9.9 g N m–2 h–1 for plots VN, VU, FN and FU, respectively. The annual N2O emission rates from green manure-double rice and fallow-double rice cropping systems were 3.6 kg N ha–1 and 1.3 kg N ha–1, respectively, with synthetic N fertilizer, and were 0.99 kg N ha–1 and 1.12 kg N ha–1, respectively, without synthetic N fertilizer. Generally, both green manure N and synthetic fertilizer N contribute to N2O emission during double rice season.  相似文献

TheAzolla pinnata (Vietnam) inoculated in rice field 10 days after transplanting (DAT) at a rate of 500 kg ha–1 fresh biomass along with phosphorus fertilizer application produced a mat on the water surface at 30 DAT. The three split application of phosphorus as 4.4, 2.2 and 2.2 kg P ha–1 applied at 10, 15 and 20 DAT, respectively produced 67% more biomass and 57% more Nitrogen inAzolla than those obtained by applying 8.8 kg P ha–1 at 10 DAT. Whereas, the two splits of phosphorus as 6.6 and 2.2 kg and 4.4 and 4.4 kg P ha–1 applied 10 and 15 DAT, respectively produced 20 and 33% more biomass and 14 and 27% more Nitrogen only. The three split application of phosphorus also increased the grain and straw yields, panicle number and weight, nitrogen concentration and its uptake in rice significantly over application of the entire amount once only. An increase of 10% grain yield and 13% straw yields was observed when 8.8 kg P ha–1 was applied in three splits rather than applied at one time. On the average an increase of 24% grain and 23% straw yields in rice were observed due toAzolla intercropping and 22% and 16%, respectively due to phosphorus application. The intercropping ofAzolla with rice along with phosphorus application also increased the fertility level of soil by increasing the total nitrogen, organic carbon and available phosphorus of soil.  相似文献

Field studies were conducted during two consecutive wet seasons in flooded rice (Oryza sativa L.) to determine the effect of green manure on urea utilization in a rice-fallow-rice cropping sequence. Replicated plots were fertilized with 60 to 120 kg of urea N ha–1 in three split applications (50, 25 and 25%) with or without incorporation of dhaincha (Sesbania aculeata L.) (100 kg N ha–1). During the first crop only 31 to 44% of the urea added was used by the rice. Incorporatingin situ grown dhaincha (GM) into the soil at transplanting had little effect on urea utilization. Forty-four to 54% of the N added was not recovered in the soil, rice crop, or as nitrate leachate during the first cropping season. Incorporation of GM had no effect on fertilizer N recovery. Only about 2% of the urea N added to the first rice crop was taken up by the second rice crop and, as in the first crop, the GM had little effect on residual N, either in amount or utilization.  相似文献

Field trials were conducted during the 1980–82 seasons to study the response dryland sorghum to nitrogen and phosphorus fertilization in a ferruginous tropical soil. Treatments tested were factorial combinations of three rates of nitrogen (0, 60 and 120 kg N ha–1) and four rates of phosphorus (0, 11, 22 and 33 kg P ha–1). Grain and straw yields and yield components were enhanced by nitrogen fertilization in two out of three years. The optimum N rate for grain yield was 60 kg N ha–1 while straw yield responded up to 120 kg N ha–1. The optimum P rate for dryland sorghum was 11 kg P ha–1. Both N and P enhanced grain weight per head, grain number, test weight and tillering significantly but it was only N which enhanced 1000-grain weight and flag leaf area. Dry matter productin was increased by N fertilization but not by P. There were no significant N × P interactions for any of the parameters studied. Dryland sorghum response to N and P fertilization was influenced by season, time of planting and rainfall distribution.  相似文献

Two field experiments were conducted in 1988 and 1989 on an acid sandy soil in Niger, West Africa, to assess the effect of phosphorus (P), nitrogen (N) and micronutrient (MN) application on growth and symbiotic N2-fixation of groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.). Phosphorus fertilizer (16 kg P ha–1) did not affect pod yields. Addition of MN fertilizer (100 kg Fetrilon Combi 1 ha–1; P + MN) containing 0.1% molybdenum (Mo) increased pod yield by 37–86%. Nitrogen concentration in shoots at mid pod filling (72 days after planting) were higher in P + MN than in P – MN fertilizer treatment. Total N uptake increased from 53 (only P) to 108 kg N ha–1 by additional MN application. Seed pelleting (P + MoSP) with 100 g Mo ha–1 (MoO3) increased nitrogenase activity (NA) by a factor of 2–4 compared to P treatment only. The increase in NA was mainly due to increase in nodule dry weight and to a lesser extent to increase in specific nitrogenase activity (SNA) per unit nodule dry weight. The higher NA of the P + MoSP treatment was associated with a higher total N uptake (55%) and pod yield (24%). Compared to P + MoSP or P + MN treatments application of N by mineral fertilizer (60 kg N ha–1) or farmyard manure (130 kg N ha–1) increased only yield of shoot dry matter but not pod dry matter. Plants supplied with N decreased soil water content more and were less drought tolerant than plants supplied with Mo. The data suggest that on the acid sandy soils in Niger N deficiency was a major constraint for groundnut production, and Mo availability in soils was insufficient to meet the Mo requirement for symbiotic N2-fixation of groundnut.  相似文献

The quantities of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium supplied by an average African soil cleared from bush fallow, assuming no losses, were approximated. Values ranged from 23 to 120 Kg N ha–1, 1.8 to 12 Kg P ha–1, 47 to 187 Kg K ha–1, depending on type of fallow, length of fallow, drainage and extent of depletion of native supplies. Additional amounts of 4 to 5 Kg N ha–1, 4 to 6 Kg P ha–1 and 14 to 20 Kg K ha–1 are obtained from the ash.Using crop nutrient removal data and approximate efficiencies of native and fertilizer N, P and K, fertilizer requirements at the reconnaissance level were estimated for selected target yields. For newly cleared uplands at cropping/fallow ratio of 2:7, N fertilizer requirements for cassava (30 t ha–1), maize (4 t ha–1), and sweet potato (16 t ha–1), were 138, 98, 42 kg ha–1 respectively. Wetland rice (4 t ha–1) required 55 kg N ha–1. Corresponding P fertilizer requirements for cassava, maize, sweet potato, upland rice (1.5 t ha–1) and ground-nut (1 t ha–1) were 190, 80, 30, 30 and 16 kg P ha–1 respectively. Wetland rice required 83 kg P ha–1. Substantial residual values of applied P are to be expected. Cassava required 60 kg ha–1 of K on newly cleared land. In soils of lowered nutrient status higher N, P, and K fertilizer requirements were indicated for all crops.Land use data from Sierra Leone were used to illustrate how the total quantities of N, P and K fertilizers in a country in the forest zone of Africa can be approximated. Fertilizer needs in Sierra Leone were in decreasing order P > N K. N, P and K requirements were estimated to be 10,000 t, 20,000 t and 4,000 t respectively. The nutrient balance sheet method described in this paper is a useful tool to estimate the order of magnitude of fertilizer requirement at selected target yields for countries in Africa.  相似文献

Poor fertility status of sandy Sahelian soils represents a major constraint to cereal and legume production. Soil amendment options were evaluated, using a stochastic efficiency framework. Dominance analyses showed that in the presence of annual applications of 30 kg N ha–1 and 30 kg K ha–1, efficient soil amendment options comprise of either the annual application of 8.7 kg P ha–1 in the form of single superphosphates in combination with 5 tonnes manure ha–1 applied every three years or the annual application of 17.5 kg P ha–1 in the form of single superphosphates. Choice between these two efficient options depends on the availability of manure, deficiencies in sandy soils and farmer resource endowments.Submitted as JA no. 1133 by the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT).  相似文献

The sustainability of the productive rice-wheat systems of Northwest India is being questioned due to the complete removal of straw for animal consumption and fuel, or the burning of straw which has reduced the soil organic matter contents. However, straw incorporation at planting can temporarily reduce the availability of fertilizer-N and reduce crop yields. In a field study on a loamy sand soil, the effect of 6 mg ha−1 rice straw incorporated into the soil 20 or 40 days before sowing (DBS) the wheat was compared with removal or burning of rice straw on the fate and balance of 120 kg ha−1 of 5 atom% 15N-urea applied to wheat and to a following crop of rice. Wheat grain yield and agronomic efficiency (AE) of applied N (kg grain/kg N applied) were not influenced by rice straw management. However, N uptake (NU), and recovery efficiency (RE) of N by the difference method were lower with rice straw incorporation than with burning. Nitrogen-15 recovery by wheat was highest (41%) when the rice straw was removed or burned and lowest (30.4%) when 30 of the 120 kg N ha−1 was applied at the time of straw incorporation at 20 DBS of wheat. However, this strategy of adding 25% of the urea-N dose at the time of straw incorporation resulted in the highest 15N losses (45.2%). Inorganic N remaining at harvest in the 0 to 60 cm soil profile, mostly NO3 , was 5.5% after wheat and 4.2% after rice. Rice grain yields, NU, and RE were not influenced by rice straw management. Nitrogen-15 losses were similar in rice and wheat (31% with straw removed) despite total irrigation and rainfall inputs of 340 and 32 cm to rice and wheat, respectively. These results suggest to the farmers of northwest India that straw incorporation does not necessarily hurt grain yields, and indicates to researchers that work is still needed to improve N use efficiency in rice and wheat. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Even though K is an essential nutrient, the response of upland rice to K fertilization under field conditions has not been adequately documented. This research was conducted to examine the influence of K fertilization on yield of upland rice (Oryza sativa L.). In the first three years, K was broadcast at rates of 0, 42, 84, 126 and 168 kg K ha–1. In the last two years K was banded at rates of 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100 kg K ha–1. The experiment was conducted on an Oxisol (Typic Haplustox) during five consecutive years. Potassium significantly increased grain yields and dry matter production but response varied from cultivar to cultivar and year to year. Drought and panicle neck blast played an important role in limiting upland rice yield response to K fertilization. Potassium application rates associated with maximum grain yield varied from 83 to 127 kg K ha–1 when K was broadcast and from 47 to 67 kg K ha–1 when K was banded. Previous broadcast K, favorable weather and blast resistant cultivars probably contributed to higher yields with K banding in the fourth and fifth growing seasons.  相似文献

Mussoorrie rock phosphate (MRP), MRP + pyrite (25% by weight), diammonium phosphate (DAP), ammonium polyphosphate (APP) and nitrophosphate (NP) were compared in a field experiment as fertilizers for wheat. At 20 kg P ha–1, MRP was only 6 per cent as effective as DAP. However, when it was mixed with pyrite, the efficiency of MRP increased to 64 per cent at 20 kg P ha–1 compared with 97 per cent at 40 kg P ha–1. The P requirement for a targeted yield for 4.5 t ha–1 decreased from 39.4 kg P ha–1 as MRP to 23.7 kg P ha–1 as MRP + pyrite. Of the other P fertilizers studied, NP was as effective as DAP, whereas APP was 9 to 37 per cent more effective than DAP. However, the P requirement as DAP, NP and APP for a targeted yield of 4.5 t ha–1 was similar (11 ± 0.5 kg P ha–1).  相似文献

Field trials were conducted at Samaru, Nigeria over a three-year period (1986–88) to study the effects of N and P fertilization on the response of promiscuously nodulating soybean toBradyrhizobium japonicum inoculation in a ferruginous tropical soil. Phosphorus fertilization enhanced nodulation, while N fertilization had no consistent effect on nodulation. Both N and P increased dry matter production. Seed yields were not influenced by the application of N. However, P increased seed yields in two out of three years. Response of seed yield to P fertilization was significant up to 26.4 kg P ha–1.Bradyrhizobium inoculation consistently enhanced nodulation while it increased seed yield in only one out of three years. Results demonstrate that P is an important nutrient for soybean production in ferruginous tropical soils. The roles of promiscuously nodulating soybean in the maintenance of tropical soil fertility are discussed.  相似文献

Japanese mint (Mentha arvensis L.) often suffers from Fe-chlorosis during the regeneration phase after first harvest when grown on alkaline/calcareous soils. Field studies were conducted during 1987 and 1988 seasons on an alkaline sandy loam soil (pH = 8.0; 4.6% CaCO3) to investigate the influence of soil and foliar applied Fe on yield and Fe status of MAS-1 and Hybrid-77 Japanese mint. Significant oil yield increases were obtained with two applications of Fe-EDTA, and FeSO4 in mixtures with ammonium sulphate and mint compost (mint distillation waste) and four split applications of FeSO4 (total Fe of 12 kg ha–1) between sprouting and 30 days after first harvest compared to the control. The highest oil yields from two harvests (180 kg ha–1) were consistently obtained with the Fe-EDTA treatment. Soil application of FeSO4 at sprouting and first harvest were ineffective compared to Fe-EDTA application. Foliar application of 30 kg ha–1 of Fe-EDTA resulted in oil yields equal to the yields obtained with soil application of 140 kg ha–1 of Fe-EDTA. Fe applications increased the concentration and the total uptake of Fe by the crop. Foliar application of Fe-EDTA at two weeks interval alleviates Fe-chlorosis in Japanese mint.  相似文献
