A novel ternary-encapsulated spherical TiO2 aggregate (TES-TiO2) with submicron particle sizes was formed by blending commercial P25 TiO2 and two different sizes of TiO2 particles (synthesized by modified sol-gel and hydrothermal methods). A double-layered TiO2 electrode for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) was fabricated by depositing TES-TiO2 particles onto nanocrystalline mesoporous TiO2 (Meso-TiO2)-coated FTO glass by a cathodic electrophoresis technique and then calcined at 450 °C for 30 min. Compared to double-layered Meso-TiO2/P25 electrodes, the energy conversion efficiency (η) of DSSCs from the obtained Meso-TiO2/TES-TiO2 electrode was improved by 9.3%, from 5.94% to 6.49%. When the prepared double-layered Meso-TiO2/TES-TiO2 electrode was calcined at high temperature, a high-voltage electric field (HVEF) was introduced to assist crystallization. As a result, η was further enhanced by 8.6%, from 6.49% to 7.05%. Notably, compared to typical 20 nm TiO2 nanocrystallites applied in the active layer of DSSCs, the prepared loosely porous TES-TiO2 with submicron size increased the light-scattering effect and promoted dye molecule adsorption and the diffusion of electrolytes. In addition, introduction of the HVEF provided better connection among TiO2 particles, which facilitated electron transport and avoided charge recombination.  相似文献

We have built TiO2 Dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) that combined flexible TiO2 photoanodes coated on ITO/PET substrates with a gel electrolyte based on PVDF-HFP-SiO2 films. Titanium isopropoxide (TiP4) was used as additive to TiO2 nanoparticles for increasing power conversion efficiency in Dye sensitized solar cell electrodes prepared at low-temperature (130 °C). An efficiency ηAM1.5G = 3.55% on ITO/PET substrates is obtained at 48 mW/cm2 illumination with a standard liquid electrolyte based on methoxypropionitrile. Among several solvents forming gels with PVDF-HFP-SiO2, N-methyl (pyrrolidone) (NMP) was found to enable the most stable devices. A power conversion efficiency ηAM1.5G = 2% was obtained under 10 mW/cm2 with flexible TiO2-ITO-PET photoanodes and the PVDF-HFP-SiO2 + NMP gel electrolyte.  相似文献

Nanocrystalline TiO2 films were prepared on flexible Ti-metal sheets by electrophoretic deposition followed by chemical treatment with tetra-n-butyl titanate (TBT) and sintering at 450 °C. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis indicates that TBT treatment led to the formation of additional anatase TiO2, which plays an important role in improving the interconnection between TiO2 particles, as well as the adherence of the film to the substrate, and in modifying the surface properties of the nanocrystalline particles. The effect of TBT treatment on the electron transport in the nanocrystalline films was studied by intensity-modulated photocurrent spectroscopy (IMPS). An increase in the conversion efficiency was obtained for the dye-sensitized solar cells with TBT-treated nanocrystalline TiO2 films. The cell performance was further optimized by designing nanocrystalline TiO2 films with a double-layer structure composed of a light-scattering layer and a transparent layer. The light-scattering effect of the double-layer nanocrystalline films was evaluated by diffuse reflectance spectra. Employing the double-layer nanocrystalline films as the photoelectrodes resulted in a significant improvement in the incident photo-to-current conversion efficiency of the corresponding cells due to enhanced solar absorption by light scattering. A high conversion efficiency of 6.33% was measured under illumination with 100 mW cm−2 (AM 1.5) simulated sunlight.  相似文献

Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are fabricated based on hollow anatase TiO2 (HA-TiO2) spheres synthesized by a chemically induced self-transformation (CIST) strategy using urea as a base catalyst, whose walls are composed of anatase nanocrystals and exhibit hierarchical porosity. TiO2 hollow structured materials not only have low density, high specific surface areas, and hierarchically porous structures, but also exhibit high light-collection efficiency and fast motion of charge carriers. Effects of calcination temperatures on the performance of HA-TiO2 solar cells are investigated and discussed. With increasing calcination temperatures, the light-electricity conversion efficiencies (η) increase. At 600 °C, HA-TiO2 cells reach the highest efficiency. The performances of HA-TiO2 cells are also compared with Degussa P-25 (P25) TiO2 nanoparticle cells at the same film thickness, and their optimal efficiencies at 600 °C are 4.82 and 4.35%, respectively. The enhanced performance of HA-TiO2 cells is due to their high surface area and hierarchically nanoporous structures when compared with the nonporous TiO2 nanoparticles (P25).  相似文献

Large-sized titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanotube arrays with an outer diameter of approximately 500 nm have been successfully synthesized by potentiostatic anodization at 180 V in a used electrolyte with the addition of 1.5 M lactic acid. It is found that the synthesized large-diameter TiO2 nanotube array shows a superior light scattering ability, which can be used as a light scattering layer to significantly enhance the efficiency of TiO2 nanoparticle-based dye-sensitized solar cells from 5.18% to 6.15%. The remarkable light scattering ability makes the large-diameter TiO2 nanotube array a promising candidate for light management in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs).  相似文献

Three triarylamine organic dyes (XS28-30) containing a cyclopentadithiophene unit as the conjugated bridge have been designed and synthesized for a potential application in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Their absorption spectra, electrochemical and photovoltaic properties have been investigated. The incorporation of ethyl-substituted cyclopentadithiophene is highly beneficial to light-harvesting and preventing close π-π aggregation, thus favorably generating high efficiency. For a typical device, a solar energy conversion efficiency (η) of 5.8% based on XS29 was achieved under simulated AM 1.5 solar irradiation (100 mW cm−2) with a short-circuit photocurrent density (JSC) of 14.4 mA cm−2, an open-circuit voltage (VOC) of 601 mV, and a fill factor (ff) of 0.68. These results suggest that the functionalized cyclopentadithiophene unit is a promising candidate for DSSCs.  相似文献

A new series of electrolytes composed of LiI and acetamide have been investigated in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). These electrolytes melt at about 50 °C and their ionic conductivities vary drastically below and above the melting points (Tm). They tend to form large crystals at low temperature, leading to poor penetration and contact within porous TiO2 anode film. This shortage is improved by introducing nano-SiO2 particles into the electrolyte. A total conversion efficiencies (η) of 0.3% at 35 °C and 4.2% at 75 °C are achieved respectively under AM 1.5 simulated solar light illumination when a LiI/acetamide (1:16) electrolyte with 8 wt% nano-SiO2 is used. It is expected that the DSSC using phase transition electrolyte could show high efficiency for operation at high temperature and high stability for storage at low temperature.  相似文献

We prepared highly ordered titanium dioxide nanotube arrays (TNAs) by anodizing Ti foils in F containing electrolyte. The thickness and dye loading amount of TNAs were 26 μm and 1.06 × 10−7 mol cm−2, respectively. TiO2 nanoparticles (TNPs) were electrophoretically deposited on the inner wall of nanotube to produce coated nanotube arrays (TNAP). The dye loading was increased to 1.56 × 10−7 mol cm−2, and the electron transport rate improved. TNAs and TNAP were sensitized with ruthenium dye N3 to yield dye-sensitized TiO2 nanotube solar cells. The power conversion efficiency of TNA-based dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) was 4.28%, whereas the efficiency of TNAP-based DSSCs increased to 6.28% when illuminated from the counter electrode. The increase of power conversion efficiency of TNAP-based DSSCs is ascribed to the increased surface area of TNAs and the faster electron transport rate.  相似文献

A low temperature (<150 °C) fabrication method for preparation of TiO2 porous films with high efficiency in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) has been developed. The Ti(IV) tetraisopropoxide (TTIP) was added to the paste of TiO2 nanoparticles to interconnect the TiO2 particles. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) technique was employed to quantify the charge transport resistance at the TiO2/dye/electrolyte interface (Rct2) and electron lifetime in the TiO2 film (τe) under different molar ratios of TTIP/TiO2 and also at various TiO2 thicknesses. It was found that the Rct2 decreased as the molar ratio increased from 0.02 to 0.08, however, it increased at a molar ratio of 0.2 due to the reduction in surface area for dye adsorption. In addition, the characteristic frequency peak shifted to lower frequency at a molar ratio of 0.08, indicating the longer electron lifetime. As for the thickness effect, TiO2 film with a thickness around 17 μm achieved the best cell efficiency. EIS study also confirmed that, under illumination, the smallest Rct2 was associated with a TiO2 thickness of 17 μm, with the Rct2 increased as the thickness of TiO2 film increased. In the Bode plots, the characteristic frequency peaks shifted to higher frequency when the thickness of TiO2 increased from 17.2 to 48.2 μm, indicating the electron recombination increases as the thickness of the TiO2 electrode increases. Finally, to make better use of longer wavelength light, 30 wt% of larger TiO2 particle (300 nm) was mixed with P25 TiO2 as light scattering particles. It effectively increased the short-circuit current density and cell conversion efficiency from 7.44 to 8.80 mA cm−2 and 3.75 to 4.20%, respectively.  相似文献

The photoelectrochemical properties of a high molar extinction coefficient charge transfer organic dye containing thienylfluorene segment called FL, and the effect of incorporating TiO2 nanotube (TiNT) in TiO2 nanoparticle film along with the above dye on the photovoltaic performance of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) were investigated. The influence of soaking time of the TiO2 electrode in dye solution and the effect of varying its concentration, on the solar cell efficiency was also studied. Cyclic voltammetric (CV) analysis revealed the linear relationship between the anodic peak current and the scan rate, indicating a surface-confined diffusion process. The surface morphology of TiNT was characterized using SEM, TEM and XRD. The open-circuit voltage (VOC) of the DSSC increased with the increase in the wt% of TiNT and shows optimal value at about 5 wt%, which is correlated with the suppression of the electron recombination as found out from the electron lifetime studies. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) technique was employed to quantify the charge transport resistance (Rct) and electron lifetime under different ratios of the TiNT/nanoparticle. The electron lifetimes of the DSSCs based on FL and N3 dye were very close to one another and the DSSC based on the FL showed respectable photovoltaic performance of ca. 7.8% under the light intensity of 100 mW cm−2 (AM 1.5G).  相似文献

A TiO2 organic sol was synthesised for the preparation of a compact TiO2 layer on fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) glass by a dip-coating technique. The resultant thin film was used for the fabrication of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The compact layer typically has a thickness of ca. 110 nm as indicated by its SEM, and consists of anatase as confirmed by the XRD pattern. Compared with the traditional DSSCs without this compact layer, the solar energy-to-electricity conversion efficiency, short-circuit current and open-circuit potential of the DSSCs with the compact layer were improved by 33.3%, 20.3%, and 10.2%, respectively. This can be attributed to the merits brought by the compact layer. It can effectively improve adherence of TiO2 to FTO surface, provide a larger TiO2/FTO contact area, and reduce the electron recombination by blocking the direct contact between the redox electrolyte and the conductive FTO surface.  相似文献

In this study, the P25 titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticle (NP) thin film was coated on the fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) glass substrate by a doctor blade method. The film then compressed mechanically to be the photoanode of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Various compression pressures on TiO2 NP film were tested to optimize the performance of DSSCs. The mechanical compression reduces TiO2 inter-particle distance improving the electron transport efficiency. The UV–vis spectrophotometer and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were employed to quantify the light-harvesting efficiency and the charge transport impedance at various interfaces in DSSC, respectively. The incident photon-to-current conversion efficiency was also monitored. The results show that when the DSSC fabricated by the TiO2 NP thin film compressed at pressure of 279 kg/cm2, the minimum resistance of 9.38 Ω at dye/TiO2 NP/electrolyte interfaces, the maximum short-circuit photocurrent density of 15.11 mA/cm2, and the photoelectric conversion efficiency of 5.94% were observed. Compared to the DSSC fabricated by the non-compression of TiO2 NP thin film, the overall conversion efficiency is improved over 19.5%. The study proves that under suitable compression pressure the performance of DSSC can be optimized.  相似文献

In this study, we used the electrochemical anodization to prepare TiO2 nanotube arrays and applied them on the photoelectrode of dye-sensitized solar cells. In the field emission scanning electron microscopy analysis, the lengths of TiO2 nanotube arrays prepared by electrochemical anodization can be obtained with approximately 10 to 30 μm. After titanium tetrachloride (TiCl4) treatment, the walls of TiO2 nanotubes were coated with TiO2 nanoparticles. XRD patterns showed that the oxygen-annealed TiO2 nanotubes have a better anatase phase. The conversion efficiency with different lengths of TiO2 nanotube photoelectrodes is 3.21%, 4.35%, and 4.34% with 10, 20, and 30 μm, respectively. After TiCl4 treatment, the efficiency of TiO2 nanotube photoelectrode for dye-sensitized solar cell can be improved up to 6.58%. In the analysis of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, the value of Rk (charge transfer resistance related to recombination of electrons) decreases from 26.1 to 17.4 Ω when TiO2 nanotubes were treated with TiCl4. These results indicate that TiO2 nanotubes treated with TiCl4 can increase the surface area of TiO2 nanotubes, resulting in the increase of dye adsorption and have great help for the increase of the conversion efficiency of DSSCs.  相似文献

Bismuth–TiO2 nanocubes were synthesized via a facile sol–gel hydrothermal method with titanium tetraisopropoxide as the precursor. The influence of the bismuth on the size, morphology, crystallinity and optical behavior of TiO2 nanocubes were investigated. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and UV–visible spectroscopy (UV–vis). Photovoltaic behavior of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) fabricated using Bi–TiO2 nanocubes was studied. The DSSCs had an open-circuit voltage (Voc) of 590 mV, a short-circuit current density (Jsc) of 7.71 mA/cm2, and the conversion efficiency (η) of 2.11% under AM 1.5 illumination, a 77% increment as compared to pure TiO2 nanocubes.  相似文献

This study investigates the extent to which the TiO2/graphene/TiO2 sandwich structure improves the performance of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) over that of DSSCs with the traditional structure. Studies have demonstrated that the TiO2/graphene/TiO2 sandwich structure effectively enhances the open circuit voltage (Voc), short-circuit current density (Jsc), and photoelectrical conversion efficiency (η) of DSSCs. The enhanced performance of DSSCs with the sandwich structure can be attributed to an increase in electron transport efficiency and in the absorption of light in the visible range. The DSSC with the sandwich structure in this study exhibited a Voc of 0.6 V, a high Jsc of 11.22 mA cm-2, a fill factor (FF) of 0.58, and a calculated η of 3.93%, which is 60% higher than that of a DSSC with the traditional structure.  相似文献

A novel alkylimidazolium iodide containing an amide group, 1-(2-hexanamidoethyl)-3-methylimidazol-3-ium iodide (amido-ImI), was synthesized to act as the quasi-solid-state electrolyte of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The DSSC with the amido-ImI electrolyte exhibited short-circuit photocurrent density (Jsc) and overall energy conversion efficiency (η) that were improved by 7.2% and 10.2%, respectively, compared to those obtained with the cell containing 1-hexyl-2,3-dimethylimidazolium iodide, a commonly used liquid electrolyte, at 100 mW cm−2. Furthermore, the stability of the DSSC was enhanced by the presence of amido-ImI.  相似文献

Highly ordered and vertically oriented TiO2 nanotube arrays were prepared and applied to dye sensitized solar cell (DSSC) as working electrodes. The nanotube arrays were fabricated using atomic layer deposition and AAO template. The two types of nanotube's end, closed-end and open-end, were produced by reactive ion etching (RIE) process. The structure of nanotube arrays was characterized by FE-SEM, TEM, and XRD. DSSCs using the TiO2 nanotube arrays as working electrodes were fabricated and characterized. The DSSCs prepared from the TiO2 nanotubes with open end exhibited higher power conversion efficiency of 1.17% than that with closed end. This result is attributed to that the open-ended TiO2 nanotubes provided larger surface area, leading to more amount of dye molecules to adsorb followed by the higher light absorption.  相似文献

This paper reports on the microstructure of anodic titanium oxide (TiO2) and its use in a dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) device. When voltages of 60 V were applied to titanium foil for 2 hr under 0.25 wt% NH4F+ 2 vol% H2O+C2H4(OH)2, TiO2 with a nanotube structure was formed. The film, which had a large surface area, was used as an electron transport film in the DSSC. The DSSC device had a short-circuit current density (Jsc) of 12.52 mA cm−2, a fill factor (FF) of 0.65, an open-voltage (Voc) of 0.77 V, and a photocurrent efficiency of 6.3% under 100% AM 1.5 light. The internal impedance values under 100%, 64%, 11%, and 0% (dark) AM 1.5 light intensities were measured and simulated using the electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) technique. The impedance characteristics of the DSSC device were simulated using inductors, resistors, and capacitors. The Ti/TiO2, TiO2/Electrolyte, electrolyte, and electrolyte/(Pt/ITO) interfaces were simulated using an RC parallel circuit, and the bulk materials, such as the Ti, ITO and conducting wire, were simulated using a series of resistors and inductors. The impedance of the bulk materials was simulated using L0+R0+Rb, the impedance of the working electrode was simulated using (C1//R1)//(Ra+(C2//R2), the electrolyte was simulated using C3//R3, and the counter electrode was simulated using C4//R4.  相似文献

ClO4-poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)/TiO2/FTO (ClO4-PEDOT/TiO2/FTO) counter electrode (CE) in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) is fabricated by using an electrochemical deposition method. Comparing with the DSSCs with ClO4-PEDOT/FTO counter electrode, the photocurrent-voltage (I-V) measurement reveals that the photocurrent conversion efficiency (η), fill factor (FF) and short-circuit current density (JSC) of DSSCs with a ClO4-PEDOT/TiO2/FTO CE increase. The enhanced performances of the DSSCs are attributed to the higher JSC arising from the increase of active surface area of ClO4-PEDOT/TiO2/FTO CE. Electrochemical impedance spectra (EIS) also indicate that the charge-transfer resistance on the ClO4-PEDOT/electrolyte interface decreases. Cyclic voltammetry results indicate that the ClO4-PEDOT/TiO2/FTO electrode shows higher activity towards I3/I redox reaction than that of ClO4-PEDOT/FTO electrode.  相似文献

TiO2/multi-wall carbon nanotube (MWNT) heterojunction arrays were synthesized and immobilized on Si(0 0 1) substrate as photocatalysts for inactivation of Escherichia coli bacteria. The vertically aligned MWNT arrays were grown on ∼5 nm Ni thin film deposited on the Si by using plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition at 650 °C. Then, the MWNTs were coated by TiO2 using dip-coating sol-gel method. Post annealing of the TiO2/MWNTs at 400 °C resulted in crystallization of the TiO2 coating and formation of Ti-C and Ti-O-C carbonaceous bonds at the heterojunction. The visible light-induced photoinactivation of the bacteria increased from MWNTs to TiO2 to TiO2/MWNTs, in which the bacteria could even slightly breed on the MWNTs. In addition, the TiO2/MWNTs annealed at 400 °C showed a highly improved antibacterial activity than the TiO2/MWNTs annealed at 100 °C. The excellent visible light-induced photocatalytic efficiency of the TiO2/MWNTs/Si film annealed at 400 °C was attributed to formation of the carbonaceous bonds at the heterojunction, in contrast to the 100 °C annealed TiO2/MWNTs/Si sample which had no such effective bonds.  相似文献
