An H‐plane horn antenna constructed into SIW (substrate integrated waveguide) is proposed. It has a dielectric arc lens for better directivity and a simple microstrip transition as feed. The horn, the lens and the transition share the same substrate. The resulting formula from optical principles shows that the suitable dielectric lens can improve the directivity of the antenna significantly. A prototype was fabricated; the antenna size is 39.175 × 14 × 2 mm3. The frequency band is from 25.5 to 28.5 GHz. The measured gain of this antenna is about 9 dB; the bandwidth, at 10 dB return loss, is over 12%. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J RF and Microwave CAE, 2007.  相似文献

A wideband low profile H‐shaped microstrip patch antenna (MPA) with reallocated quadruple‐mode resonance is presented for indoor wireless communication application. In this paper, the TM20 (mode 1), TM02 (mode 2), TM22 (mode 3), and additionally notch mode 4 of the proposed MPA are simultaneously employed. First, the rectangular radiating patch is reshaped as an H‐shaped radiator so as to separate a pair of degenerate modes (mode 1 and mode 2). Then, a pair of linear notches is cut on the diagonal of the patch to excite an additional notch resonance (mode 4). Finally, in order to improve the frequency of mode 1, four shorting pins are placed at the four corners of the H‐shaped patch. Therefore, the bandwidth of the antenna is dramatically increased up by utilizing four resonant modes (modes 1, 2, 3, and 4). A prototype of H‐shaped patch antenna with notches and shorting pins is manufactured and measured. The results show that the antenna achieves a broad bandwidth of about 31.7% (2.31‐3.18 GHz), and its profile is only 0.036 wavelength of center frequency. It is particularly noticed that a relative high gain of around 9.8 dBi is successfully acquired, while keeping relative stable dual‐beam radiation patterns.  相似文献

In this paper, a novel broadband dual‐polarization patch antenna is proposed. Antisymmetric Γ feeding network is applied to excite the radiating patch etched on the upper side of the horizontal substrate, which could minimize the undesired radiation from the probe and extend the impedance bandwidth. For verifying the proposed approach, a prototype is fabricated and measured, the simulated and measured results show the antenna has a wide impedance bandwidth of 48% (1.66‐2.71 GHz) for S11 < ?10 dB, as well as stable radiation gain around 9.5 dBi with low cross‐polarization. In addition, the total height of the antenna is only 0.17 λ0 ( λ0 is the free space wavelength of central frequency) and high port‐to‐port isolation is better than 30 dB. The characteristics of the proposed antenna illustrate it can be an indication for a micro base station in the mobile communication system.  相似文献

A compact monopulse antenna array based on substrate integrated waveguide technology is presented through this article. The design is fabricated on Printed Circuit Board (PCB) technology consisting of a double‐layered 8‐cell array antenna with a slot in the middle‐ground metal used for aperture‐coupling excitation and reducing unwanted spurious emissions from feed network. The Impedance bandwidth and AR bandwidth are enhanced due to optimal feed network, including Rat‐Race coupler to generate sum and difference patterns for mono‐pulse applications operating at 10 GHz. The prototype of the proposed antenna with the size of 124*25 mm2 is fabricated and tested. Measured results compared very well to simulation results obtained by CST microwave studio and show ?10‐dB impedance bandwidth of 4% and ?22 dB null‐depth in difference mode.  相似文献

In this article, a metamaterial‐based broadband low‐profile antenna is presented. The proposed antenna employed an array of uniplanar quasi‐composite right/left‐hand (CRLH) metamaterial cells. This structure contributes to exciting the operating modes in lower frequencies. The antenna has an overall electrical size of 0.75 × 0.60 × 0.07 λ030 is the center operating wavelength in free space) and provides a 25% measured bandwidth with the center frequency of 5.1 GHz and maximum gain of 6.6 dB. The proposed antenna is an appropriate candidate for WLAN, WiMAX, and other wireless communication applications.  相似文献

A wideband dual‐polarized microstrip antenna is presented. By designing the coplanar parasitic patches and modified feed probes, antenna profile is decreased significantly. Shorted pins are used and 34 dB isolation between input ports is then achieved. A phase difference feed network is introduced to suppress higher‐order modes and reduce the cross polarization to ?27 dB. To verify the design, a prototype of the antenna is fabricated and experimentally studied. Measured results show that 30.3% operating bandwidth (VSWR < 1.5) and good dual linear polarization characteristics with a profile height as low as 0.08λ are achieved. Due to the very compact configuration, the proposed antenna is suitable for micro‐base‐station applications.  相似文献

This article presents a simple, compact, and lightweight substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) backed self‐quadruplexing antenna for quad‐band applications. The design procedure is straightforward. Topside of the SIW cavity is modified to form four patches of different lengths which are fed separately by four 50‐Ω microstrip feed lines and operate at 5.14, 5.78, 6.74, and 7.74. It attains 4.1, 4.96, 6.2, and 6.1 peak gain at the above frequencies, respectively. The observed front‐to‐back‐ratio is more than 17.5 dB and the isolation level is above 28 dB. This antenna topology allows to redesign each resonant frequencies as per application requirement using a single parameter and without disturbing other performances. Design guidelines for developing the proposed antenna are provided. A prototype antenna is fabricated using RT‐Duroid (5870) substrate and characterized for validation. The proposed antenna is suitable for handheld microwave devices for C‐band communication.  相似文献

A cavity‐backed antenna with low‐profile, dual‐polarization, and wide operating bandwidth characteristics is proposed. In this design, two orthogonally positioned triangular bowtie antennas printed on a low‐cost substrate are loaded onto a square cavity, so that two orthogonal linear polarizations can be excited. By further introducing four extended ground stubs from each side of the square cavity, the proposed antenna can also acquire low‐profile characteristic of approximately 0.1λ (15 mm). To achieve good impedance matching, additional circular slots are introduced into each bowtie design. The measured results show that the proposed antenna can cover a wide operating bandwidth of 62% (2.0–3.8 GHz) with a VSWR of 2:1. Besides exhibiting good isolation (>20 dB) between the two feeding ports, desirable realized gains (6.0–10.5 dBi) over the wide operation band are also demonstrated. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) circularly polarized (CP) antenna with omnidirectional radiation in the azimuthal plane is proposed. The antenna consists of five identical end‐fire CP antenna elements in a pentagonal array configuration, which is loaded on a circular substrate. Each element contains an H‐plane horn antenna in SIW structure and a printed dipole antenna. Five parasitic curve elements are introduced to improve the omnidirectional property of the antenna. Combined with complementary dipoles theory and SIW technology, prototype antenna is designed, fabricated and measured. With a low profile of 0.024λ0, the antenna has a 10‐dB return‐loss impedance bandwidth of 4.08% (2.4~2.5 GHz) and a 3‐dB axial‐ratio (AR) bandwidth of 5.76% (2.36~2.50 GHz). The antenna works well in the 2.45 GHz ISM band, with good cross‐polarization and excellent omnidirectional property.  相似文献

A low‐profile self‐triplexed slot antenna is proposed for multiple system integrations. The antenna comprises of hybrid substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity (a combination of a half‐mode circular and half‐mode rectangular SIW), radiating slot, and feeding network. A slot is imprinted on the upper metal‐layer of the SIW which splits the cavity into three radiating sections. It offers tri‐frequency bands when each section is excited separately. By finely tuning the antenna dimensions, it produces three frequency‐bands around 5.57, 7.17, and 7.65 GHz simultaneously utilizes a single slot with maintaining the intrinsic input‐port isolation better than 20 dB. This property helps to introduce the self‐triplexing phenomenon. Compared with the conventional multiband antennas that use an extra circuitry to ensure the port isolations, this design preserves compactness and easy to integrate with planar circuits Moreover, the proposed antenna is fabricated and the measured results mutually agreed with the simulated counterparts. The proposed design can be a feasible option for mobile transceiver applications.  相似文献

In this article, the design and analysis of a double‐ridged conical horn antenna with high gain and low cross polarization for wideband applications is presented. Double‐ridged pyramidal horn antennas have been investigated in many references. There are no papers in the literature which are devoted to design and analysis of double‐ridged conical horn antenna. The designed antenna has a voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) less than 2.1 for the frequency range of 8–18 GHz. Moreover, the proposed antenna exhibits extremely low cross polarization, low side lobe level, high gain, and stable far‐field radiation characteristics in the entire operating bandwidth. A new technique for synthesizing of the horn flare section is introduced. A coaxial line to circular double‐ridged waveguide transition is introduced for coaxial feeding of the designed antenna. The proposed antenna is simulated with commercially available packages such as CST microwave studio and Ansoft HFSS in the operating frequency range. Simulation results for the VSWR, radiation patterns, and gain of the designed antenna over the frequency band 8–18 GHz are presented and discussed. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article presents a simple design of circularly polarized (CP) antenna with low profile and wideband operation characteristics. To achieve these desirable features, a truncated corner squared patch is chosen as primary radiating source and surrounded by periodic metallic plates for bandwidth enhancement. Notably, all the radiating elements are designed on a single layer of substrate using printed circuit techniques, which significantly reduces the design complexity. The final prototype with overall size of 0.60λo × 0.60λo × 0.05λo (λo is free‐space wavelength at the center operating frequency) was fabricated and tested. Measured results show that the proposed antenna has wide operation bandwidth of 19.7% (5.1‐6.2 GHz). Additionally, broadside gain ranging from 5.0 to 6.9 dBic is also attained within the operating band. In comparison with the other reported antennas in literature, the proposed one has the simplest design architecture with competitive operating bandwidth.  相似文献

This article presents a low‐profile broadband antenna. The E‐shaped metal cells are utilized on the top layer, which is excited by the microstrip line through the coupling slot in the ground plane. The characteristics of the E‐shaped patch cell and antenna are extensively investigated and presented. Dual resonances with close proximity are obtained to realize wideband impedance matching. An attractive feature is found that the bandwidth of the antenna exhibits good correlation with the inductance. The interesting analysis is presented by directly loading inductors to the antenna, and the bandwidth shrinks quickly with larger inductance loaded. Therefore, the antenna proposed in this article has good potential in bandwidth tuning applications. A typical bandwidth from 5.1 to 6.7 GHz is achieved by the fabricated antenna with a maximum measured gain of 10.4 dBi. Meanwhile, the antenna remains a low profile of 0.09 λ g.  相似文献

In this article, a dual‐polarized low‐profile microstrip patch antenna with U‐ or M‐shaped feed network is presented. The U‐ or M‐shaped feed network is printed on the same layer, which can achieve dual bands (5.3 and 5.8 GHz) and low profile (0.06 λg). Dual polarizations and high isolation are realized by making use of a quasi‐cross‐shaped slot feeding. Moreover, the port isolation is better than 25 dB, and the antenna gain is above 8.4 dBi for the two ports. And the cross‐polarization levels in both E and H planes are better than ‐30 dB for the two polarization ports, respectively. The design is suitable for array application in MIMO system. Details of the proposed design and experimental results are presented and well agreed.  相似文献

A method to enhance the gain of substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) beam scanning antenna is proposed in this article. 2 × 2 SIW cavity‐backed sub‐arrays are employed in array design. The antenna is constructed on two layers. The top layer places four SIW cavity‐backed sub‐arrays as radiating elements and the bottom layer is an SIW transmission line to feed the sub‐arrays. Beam scanning feature can be obtained due to the frequency dispersion. Moreover, through separating radiators to the other layer and using 2 × 2 SIW cavity‐backed sub‐arrays as radiating parts, the antenna gain is improved significantly. For a linear array, 4.1 to 6.8 dB gain enhancement is achieved compared to a conventional SIW beam scanning antenna with the same length. Then, the linear array is expanded to form a planar array for further gain improvement. A 64‐element planar beam scanning array is designed, fabricated, and tested. Experimental results show that the proposed planar array has a bandwidth from 18.5 GHz to 21. 5 GHz with beam scanning angle from ?5° to 11.5° and gain in the range of 20.5 to 21.8 dBi. The proposed high gain beam scanning antennas have potential applications in radar detection and imaging.  相似文献

A low‐profile wideband patch antenna utilizing double‐tuned impedance matching technology is investigated in this paper. To extend the operation bandwidth of the antenna, the step‐folded probe is used here to realize the double‐tuned impedance matching. Using equivalent circuit theory, the working principle of the antenna is analyzed and discussed. The full‐wave simulation is carried out to optimize the design while the prototype of the antenna is fabricated and measured. Good agreement between the simulation and measurement can be observed. The measured results show that the antenna has a height of 0.12λL (λL is the free space wavelength corresponding to lowest frequency) and the ?10 dB impedance bandwidth can cover 1.60‐2.83 GHz (55.5%). The low profile and wide operation bandwidth of the antenna make it a good candidate for wideband wireless communication systems.  相似文献

This article presents a quad‐ridged conical horn antenna with high gain and low side lobe level for broadband applications. To the best of authors' knowledge, the proposed structure presented in this article is completely new. The designed antenna introduces a low VSWR, which is lower than 2.2 for the frequency range of 8–18 GHz, and simultaneously achieves high gain as well as dual‐polarizations with high isolation between the corresponding excitations. The common impedance exponential tapering is used at the flare section of the horn, and a coax to waveguide transition, namely quadruple‐ridged circular waveguide, with a conical cavity is used to improve the VSWR. The proposed antenna structure is designed and simulated by two well established packages, namely the CST microwave studio and the Ansoft HFSS, showing there is a close agreement between the results obtained by the aforementioned softwares. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, a compact dual layer leaky wave antenna array is simulated and constructed using the substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) based on the TE20 mode at the X‐ and Ku‐bands. The proposed antenna is designed by creating dumbbell‐shaped slots on the upper layer of the SIW. These slots have increased the antenna bandwidth so that the proposed antenna has a bandwidth of 9.5 to 13.7 GHz and a fractional bandwidth of 36%. In addition, to excite the TE20 mode, an SIW power divider is used in the feeding network of the antenna located in the bottom layer. Moreover, the gain and directivity are other advantages of the proposed antenna so that at 12.5 GHz the antenna peak gain reaches to 15.7 dB. Antenna beam scanning angle is from 5° to 81°. This antenna is simulated and analyzed by the CST Microwave Studio software. The obtained results from the antenna test lab confirm the simulation results.  相似文献

In this article, a novel design of compact cavity‐backed slot antenna based on substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology is presented for dual‐frequency communication services. A single layer printed circuit board is applied to implement the proposed antenna. The bowtie‐ring slot engraved on the SIW square cavity is excited using two orthogonal microstrip feed lines to operate at two distinct frequencies (6.62 GHz and 11.18 GHz). The proposed antenna allows each of these frequencies to be designed independently. A prototype of the proposed cavity‐backed antenna that radiates at both 6.62 GHz and 11.18 GHz is fabricated and measured. The port isolation better than 29.3 dB is achieved by utilizing the transmission zeros (TZs), which are produced due to the orthogonal feed lines, TE110 mode and coupling between the TE120 and TE210 modes. The measured peak gains of the proposed diplexing antenna are 5.77 dBi and 5.81 dBi at lower and upper resonating frequencies, respectively. The proposed dual‐frequency antenna exhibits the front‐to‐back‐ratio (FTBR) and cross‐polarization level greater than 26 dB and 21 dB, respectively, at both resonating frequencies.  相似文献

In this article, a novel substrate integrated low‐profile dual‐band magneto‐electric (ME) dipole antenna is proposed. The entire antenna is constructed by four‐layer printed circuit boards (PCBs). Consequently, the height of the proposed antenna is decreased from 0.25λ0 to 0.11λ00 is the free‐space wavelength at 5.5 GHz). By introducing rectangular patches with different sizes as electric dipoles, dual operating bands are achieved. Meanwhile, for the purpose of improving the impedance matching at the lower frequency band, a pair of complementary split‐ring resonators (CSRRs) is etched on the larger rectangular patches. Moreover, the short walls composed of plated through holes operate as a magnetic dipole. The antenna is fed by an equivalent wideband microstrip‐to‐parallel stripline balun. The results show that the antenna obtains dual bandwidths of 4.31‐4.71 GHz (8.8%) and 5.07‐5.89 GHz (14.9%) with VSWR <2, which can be applied for C‐band and 5G WiFi. Over the dual operating bands, stable gain and unidirectional radiation patterns with low polarization and low back lobe are also obtained.  相似文献
