The mobile WiMAX system is based on IEEE 802.16e, which defines radio interface supporting several classes of Internet Protocol applications and services. While the mobile WiMAX system is being deployed, IEEE 802.16m TG is developing an amendment to the IEEE 802.16e to greatly improve the system performance, and it is focusing not only on the PHY and MAC performance but also on a level of end-to-end performance improvement that includes the scope of the network and application to embrace the strong market request and interest. To evaluate the mobile WiMAX system capacity and performance, all the aspects of performance evaluation ? from air link to application ? are required. For the network and application-level capacity and performance analysis, we first provide an overview of mobile WiMAX systems, especially of the OFDMA/TDD systems of IEEE 802.16e and then describe subscriber and application profiles that include traffic-mix ratio, data-session attempts for applications, diurnal-application traffic distribution, and the application-traffic model. Afterward, the simulation results of network- traffic characteristics and demand estimation are provided. Finally, in the last section, we provide simulation results of end-to-end application performance evaluation using the examples of VoIP and a TCP/IP performance-enhancement method that can be implemented in the mobile WiMAX MAC or MAC/IP cross layer.  相似文献

Online games have been played mainly in desktop computers over wired networks because of high speed and intensive computation requirements. The advances in mobile devices and ever increasing wireless link bandwidth motivate us to study whether players can enjoy online gaming over broadband wireless networks such as mobile Worldwide Inter‐operability for Microwave Access (WiMAX). In this paper, we carry out comprehensive measurements of the World of Warcraft (WoW) over the mobile WiMAX in Seoul, Korea, and analyze the network performance focusing on two aspects: (1) network layer dynamics such as round trip time, jitter, and packet loss and (2) WiMAX link layer statistics such as the radio signal strength, handovers, and piggyback mechanism. From the empirical data, we set up performance models and evaluate the performance of WoW over WiMAX. WiMAX, worldwide interoperability for microwave access, is an emerging wireless communication system that can provide broadband access with large-scale coverage. As a cost-effective solution, multihop communication is becoming more and more important to WiMAX systems. To successfully deploy multihop WiMAX networks, security is one of the major challenges that must be addressed. Another crucial issue is how to support different services and applications in WiMAX networks. Since WiMAX is a relatively new standard, very little work has been presented in the literature. In this article we propose a secure and service-oriented network control framework for WiMAX networks. In the design of this framework we consider both the security requirements of the communications and the requirements of potential WiMAX applications that have not been fully addressed previously in the network layer design. The proposed framework consists of two basic components: a service-aware control framework and a unified routing scheme. Besides the design of the framework, we further study a number of key enabling technologies that are important to a practical WiMAX network. In WiMAX networks, contention based bandwidth requests are allowed in the uplink channel on the time division duplexing frame. The standard allows some types of traffic classes to use this period while preventing others like Unsolicited Grant Service. In this study, we provide a performance analysis of the three types of connections (ertPS, non-real time Polling Service and Best Effort) that are allowed to contend for bandwidth request opportunities. The choice of these traffic classes covers both real and non-real traffic types. Two quality of service parameters; contention probability and average connection delay are investigated in order to evaluate the network performances. Different levels of priority and blocking probability are assigned to each class of service. This performance analysis has been done using an analytical model for evaluating admission control for the previous mentioned classes in WiMAX network.  相似文献

由于WiMAX Mesh网络可以有效保证网络的QoS,因此有可能将其应用于电信级的回程网络.本文分析了WiMAX Mesh网络的调度机制和单出口 WiMAX Mesh网络存在的问题,提出了一种多出口WiMAX Mesh网络组网方案,在该方案的基础上提出了全局最优的调度算法,并给出了把该算法应用到实际WiMAX Mesh网络中的详细步骤.本文对具有20个和50个SS节点的Mesh网络进行了仿真,对算法的性能和效果进行了验证.仿真结果表明,本算法可以把调度效率提高53%~70%.  相似文献

Recently, WiMAX has been proposed as an attractive wireless communication technology for providing broadband access for metropolitan areas. Despite its salient features from the technical perspective, the success of the WiMAX network depends on its capability of providing cost-effective solutions for a variety of existing and potential services. To address this issue, we advocate the design of a new network layer that can support multihop communications efficiently in WiMAX networks and that can fully exploit the features of the WiMAX standards. In particular, we first identify services that are important for broadband wireless network providers and investigate the requirements for different services. We then discuss now to design WiMAX networks by considering issues of efficiency, security, and reliability. The key observation is that WiMAX can be properly complemented by advanced connection management and network coding techniques.  相似文献
