A compact four‐element multiple‐input‐multiple‐output (MIMO) antenna for ultra‐wideband (UWB) applications with WLAN band‐notched characteristics is proposed here. The proposed antenna has been designed to operate from 2 to 12 GHz while reject the frequencies between 4.9 to 6.4 GHz. The four antenna elements are placed orthogonal to attain the polarization diversity and high isolation. A thin stub connected to the ground plane is deployed as a LC notch filter to accomplish the rejected WLAN band in each antenna element. The mutual coupling between the adjacent elements is at least 17 dB while it has low indoor and outdoor envelop correlation (<0.45) and high gain with compact size of two boards, each measuring 50 × 25 mm2. To validate the concept, the prototype antenna is manufactured and measured. The comparison of the simulation results showed good agreement with the measured results. The low‐profile design and compact size of the proposed MIMO antenna make it a good candidate for diversity applications desired in portable devices operating in the UWB region.  相似文献

A compact four and eight elements multiple‐input‐multiple‐output (MIMO) antenna designed for WLAN applications is presented in this article. The antenna operates in IEEE 802.11b/g WLAN (2.4 GHz), IEEE 802.11 ac/n WLAN (5.2 and 5.8 GHz) and WiMAX (5.8 GHz) bands. The resonated mode of the antenna is achieved by two unequal Reverse‐L shaped, line‐shaped slots on top and parasitic element on the ground layer. The single antenna provides wide bandwidth of about 29% (2.3‐3.1 GHz) in lower and 22% (4.9‐6.1 GHz) in the upper band. The compactness of the single element antenna is found about 95% with respect to the patch and 61% in overall dimension. Thereafter an investigation is carried out to design two, four, and eight elements MIMO antennas. All of the multi‐element structures provide compact configuration and cover entire WLAN frequency ranges (2.4‐2.48 and 5.15‐5.85 GHz). The dimension of the proposed eight element MIMO antenna is 102 × 52 × 1.6 mm3. It covers the frequency (measured) from 2.4 to 3.1 GHz and 5 to 6.1 GHz. The diversity performance of the proposed MIMO antenna is also assessed in terms of the envelope correlation coefficient (ECC), diversity gain (DG), and total active reflection co‐efficient (TARC). The ECC is found <0.5 whereas the DG >9.0 is obtained for the desired bands.  相似文献

A compact four-element MIMO microstrip antenna is designed, analyzed and proposed for high frequency modern wireless applications. Proposed antenna is compact in size and offers a frequency band of about 6 GHz ranging from 23 to 29 GHz with a peak gain of 7.1 dBi and suppressed mutual coupling and cross-polarization level. Presented antenna possess better diversity with minimum mutual coupling among its all four elements. Diversity is verified in terms of envelope correlation coefficient, directive gain, total active reflection coefficient and ratio of mean effective gain. All the diversity parameters are found within the appropriate limit standardized for a MIMO device. Experimental results of fabricated prototypes verified the proposed results.

In this paper, a compact multielement ultra‐wideband (UWB) multiple‐input multiple‐output (MIMO) antenna is presented. The proposed antenna is designed by integrating novel technique of stub‐loaded slot, split square ring (SSR), and fractal‐inspired isolator. The antenna size is effectively miniaturized by implementing three‐sided symmetrical stub‐loaded Koch slot and square split ring. The impedance bandwidth is broadened by using small notched partial ground plane. The mutual coupling between the element is impressively reduced by isolating the structure with a Sierpinski fractal. As a result, the proposed antenna achieves a UWB response with a very broad impedance bandwidth of 3.1 to 19 GHz. Moreover, the proposed antenna obtains high peak stable gain and diversity gain of up to 10 dBi, lower group delay (<1 ns), and lower envelop correlation coefficient of <.01. The proposed antenna has electrically small dimensions of 35 × 53 × 0.8 mm. With this low‐profile configuration, the proposed antenna is especially a good candidate for portable UWB‐MIMO wireless communication system.  相似文献

In this article, a compact 2 element UWB MIMO antenna is proposed. It has a compact size of 40 mm × 20 mm (800 mm2). The antenna utilizes hybrid Sierpinski Koch fractal shape as the radiating element. The antenna elements are placed parallel and close to each other. The isolation between the antenna elements is increased by employing a modified stepped ground plane and a reflecting ground stub. The use of stub results in pattern diversity. A U‐ Shaped slot is etched in the radiating element to notch the WLAN band that interferes with UWB. The antenna performance is measured in terms of S‐parameter, radiation pattern and diversity performance. Considering S11 < ?10 dB, the antenna offers an acceptable impedance bandwidth from 2.5 to 11 GHz, with an isolation better than 20 dB over the UWB range. It has a stable omnidirectional pattern. In terms of diversity performance, the antenna has an envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) of <0.1 and capacity loss of <0.1 bps/Hz. The channel capacity of the antenna in the outdoor environment is obtained using Wireless Insite. The channel capacity is found to be 2 Gb/s. The proposed antenna thus can be a good candidate for portable UWB application.  相似文献

A compact MIMO antenna was proposed in this article. The designed antenna is compact in size with dimensions of 20 × 34 × 1.6 mm. In this proposed antenna model the patch consisting of two counter facing C‐shaped elements facing each other in which a hexagonal ring attached to a strip line which is placed in between the two C‐shaped patch acts as the stub. The novelty of the antenna elements lies isolation improvement by using the ground stub with the use of circular ring resonator. The proposed antenna operates in four bands in which 2.66 to 3.60 GHz (Wi‐Max, Wi‐Fi), 4.52 to 5.78 GHz (WLAN), 6.59 to 7.40 GHz (satellite communication), and 9.55 to 10.91 GHz and having bandwidth of 0.94, 1.26, 0.81, and 1.36 GHz at four bands. The envelope correlation coefficient is ECC ≤ 0.3 and diversity gain > 9.8 dB for the operating bands of antenna proposed. This antenna can work in the bands of Wi‐Max, Wi‐Fi, WLAN, satellite communication in X‐band and for radio location, and astronomy applications.  相似文献

A compact two‐element multiple‐input‐multiple‐output (MIMO) antenna system with improved impedance matching and isolation is presented for future sub‐6 GHz 5G applications. The two identical tapered microstrip line fed modified rhombus‐shaped radiating elements are placed in the same orientation at a compact substrate area of 0.24λ0 × 0.42λ0 (where, λ0 at 3.6 GHz) on a shared rectangular ground. A remodeled T‐shaped ground stub is placed between a pair of radiating element to achieve improved impedance bandwidth and isolation. Further, a split U‐shaped stub connected to center of each radiating element to achieve the desired resonant frequency of 3.6 GHz. The proposed antenna covers a ?10 dB operating band of 3.34 to 3.87 GHz (530 MHz) with more than 20 dB isolation between a pair of elements. MIMO performances are also analyzed and experimentally validated. The measured performances of a prototype are found in good agreement with simulated performances. Further, the simulation study is carried out to see the effect of housing and extended ground plane on two‐element MIMO antenna for practical application. An idea of realization of 12‐element MIMO is also studied using the proposed two‐element MIMO antenna.  相似文献

A new compact three‐dimensional multiple‐input‐multiple‐output (MIMO) antenna comprised of eight antenna elements is presented. The unit cell of the proposed MIMO/diversity antenna consists of three elliptical rings connected together in the region close to the feed line and a rectangular‐shaped modified ground plane. To achieve polarization diversity with the proposed eight‐port MIMO configuration, four antenna elements are horizontally arranged and the remaining four are vertically oriented. The proposed antenna has an impedance bandwidth (S11 < ?10 dB) of 25.68 GHz (3.1‐28.78 GHz) with a wireless local area network notch‐band at 5.8 GHz (5.2‐6.5 GHz). In addition to polarization diversity, the proposed antenna provides a reliable link with wireless devices. The prototype antenna design is fabricated and measured for diversity performance. Also, the proposed MIMO antenna provides good performance metrics such as apparent diversity gain, channel capacity loss, envelope correlation coefficient, isolation, mean effective gain, multiplexing efficiency, and total active reflection coefficient.  相似文献

In this research, compact tapered feed 2 × 2/4 × 4 MIMO antenna are presented and investigated. The proposed MIMO antenna consists of a square patch and modified rectangular ground, which is chamfered at edges and etched with two semicircular slots. Likewise, obstruction caused by WiMAX and WLAN interfering bands is also taken care of by introducing notched filters. WiMAX is removed by embedding an rotated T‐type stub and a C‐type slot eliminates the WLAN band. The proposed antenna configuration covers the usable bandwidth of 3.07 to 11.25 GHz for 2 × 2 MIMO and 2.97 to 11.28 GHz for 4 × 4 MIMO. Also, both the MIMO antennas provide isolation <–20 dB. Proposed MIMO antennas are fabricated and characterized in near, far‐field, and diversity performance where envelope correlation coefficient, directive gain (DG), total active reflection coefficient (TARC), and channel capacity loss are simulated and measured. 4 × 4 MIMO antenna configuration provides stable gain with a maximum radiation efficiency of 91% and monopole radiation patterns.  相似文献

A novel frequency agile multiple‐input‐multiple‐output (MIMO) patch antenna based on a reconfigurable feedline is proposed. The proposed antenna structure has two hexagonal‐shaped patch antenna elements. A defected ground structure having hexagonal shape is included in the ground plane to make the design compact and improve isolation among antenna elements. Further compactness is achieved using reactive loading. Frequency reconfigurability is realized by employing varactor diodes in the microstrip feedline. The proposed antenna achieves a frequency reconfigurable band with wide tuning range from 1.42 to 2.27 GHz with good gain and efficiency. Furthermore, an envelope correlation coefficient value of less than 0.2 and minimum isolation of 12 dB was achieved, displaying good MIMO performance. The presented antenna has a planar, low profile design with compact size of 100 × 50 mm2. Thus, frequency agility, wide range tuning, compactness, and planar structure of the proposed antenna design make it suitable for modern wireless handheld devices particularly in cognitive radio applications.  相似文献

A compact planar frequency reconfigurable dual‐band multiple‐input‐multiple‐output (MIMO) antenna with high isolation and pattern/polarization diversity characteristics is presented in this article for WiFi and WiMAX standards. The MIMO configuration incorporates two symmetrically placed identical antenna elements and covers overall size of 24 mm × 24 mm × 0.762 mm. Reconfiguration of each antenna element is achieved by using a PIN diode which allows antennas to switch from state‐1 (2.3‐2.4 GHz and 4.6‐5.5 GHz) to state‐2 (3.3‐3.5 GHz and 4.6‐5.5 GHz). In state‐1, the configuration offers isolation ≥18 dB and 20 dB in lower band (LB) and upper band (UB) respectively; whereas, in state‐2, isolation ≥21 dB and 20 dB in LB and UB respectively is achieved. The same decoupling circuit provides high isolation in dual‐band of two states, which makes overall size of the proposed design further compact. The antennas are characterized in terms of envelope correlation coefficient, radiation pattern, gain, and efficiency. From measured and simulated results, it is verified that the proposed frequency reconfigurable dual‐band multi‐standard MIMO antenna design shows desirable performance in both operating bands of each state and compact size of the design makes it suitable for small form factor devices used in future wireless communication systems.  相似文献

A novel compact self‐similar fractal ultra‐wideband (UWB) multiple‐input‐multiple‐output (MIMO) antenna is presented. This fractal geometry is designed by using iterated function system (IFS). Self‐similar fractal geometry is used here to achieve miniaturization and wideband performance. The self‐similarity dimension of proposed fractal geometry is 1.79, which is a fractional dimension. The antenna consists of two novel self‐similar fractal monopole‐antenna elements and their metallic area is minimized by 29.68% at second iteration. A ground stub of T‐shape with vertical slot enhances isolation and impedance bandwidth of proposed MIMO antenna. This antenna has a compact dimension of 24 × 32 mm2 and impedance bandwidth (S11 < ?10 dB) of 9.4 GHz ranging from 3.1 to 12.5 GHz with an isolation better than 16 dB. The various diversity performance parameters are also determined. There is good agreement between measured and simulated results, which confirms that the proposed antenna is acceptable for UWB applications.  相似文献

A band notched ultra‐wideband (UWB) antenna is presented in this article as a good prospect for multiple‐input multiple‐output (MIMO)/diversity application. The proposed MIMO antenna is constituted of two modified rectangle‐shaped patch antenna elements. A stepped stub is extended from the modified ground plane as a decoupling element between the radiators to realize a good isolation level between them. A band rejection response is obtained by connecting an open resonant stub to each of the radiators. The simulated prototype is fabricated and tested for verification. Results reveal that the proposed prototype provides a 10 dB return loss bandwidth from 3.08 to 10.98 GHz with band notch characteristics from 4.98 to 5.96 GHz, and a good port isolation level (S21 ≤ 20). Diversity performances are ensured in terms of total active reflection coefficient, envelope correlation coefficient (<0.013 except notch band), diversity gain (≈9.51 dB), mean effective gain ratio (≈1), and channel capacity loss (≤0.35 bps/HZ except notch band). It evidences that the presented band notched UWB antenna can be a good prospective for MIMO/diversity applications.  相似文献

A unique tiny wideband antenna with improvements in fundamental features is offered. The antenna consists of a crown-shaped patch and an incomplete ground plane. The proposed patch shape is constructed by introducing multiple truncated circular-shaped arcs, which help to enhance the performance of the designed antenna. A unique strategy of etching the substrate structure, is integrated which aims to provide a useful solution for the excitation of the surface waves within the microstrip antenna. The essential attributes including impedance bandwidth and radiation efficiency of the recommended antenna are strengthened after the removal of these portions. The recommended antenna can be used for X-band applications with a compact size of 30 × 30 mm2. The usable impedance bandwidth (S11  ≤ 10 dB) covered by the proposed antenna is 6.2 GHz and ranges from 5.8 to 12 GHz. The antenna is experimentally tested to confirm the outcomes of the simulation thus, a satisfactory agreement is reached between simulated and measured results that prove the antenna’s validity for wideband operations.

A circularly polarized printed antenna using an asymmetric open‐slot is designed in this paper. The presented antenna consists of conducting ground plane with open wide‐slot, fed electromagnetically by a microstrip feedline. The slot and feedline are positioned at the edge of the ground plane and substrate, hence making the antenna asymmetric. The measured results show that the |S11| < ?10 dB impedance bandwidth is 125% (3.2‐14 GHz) and the broadband axial ratio bandwidth is 61% (3.2‐6 GHz). The antenna is very simple and has a small size of 25 mm × 25 mm, making it attractive for compact wireless WLAN, ISM, WiMAX, and C‐band applications.  相似文献

A planar and compact substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity backed antenna and a 2 × 2 multi‐input multi‐output (MIMO) antenna are presented in this study. The proposed antenna is fed by a grounded coplanar waveguide (GCPW) to SIW type transition and planned to be used for millimeter‐wave (mm‐wave) fifth generation (5G) wireless communications that operates at 28, 38, 45, and 60 GHz frequency bands. Moreover, the measured impedance bandwidth (|S11| ≤ ? 10 dB ) of the antenna covers 27.55 to 29.36, 37.41 to 38.5, 44.14 to 46.19, and 57.57 to 62.32 GHz bands and confirms the quad‐band characteristic. Omni‐directional radiation characteristics are observed in the far‐field radiation pattern measurements of the antenna over the entire operating frequency. The reported antenna is compact in size (9.7 × 13.3 × 0.6 mm3) and the gain values at each resonance frequency are measured as 3.26, 3.28, 3.34, and 4.51 dBi, respectively. Furthermore, the MIMO antenna performance is evaluated in terms of isolation, envelope correlation coefficient and diversity gain.  相似文献

A coplanar waveguide (CPW) fed printed compact monopole antenna with five band rejection features is presented. Wide bandwidth was achieved by beveling the lower part and adding a modified ellipse on the upper portion of the patch. An inverted circular arc, single circular split ring resonator (SRR) with wide opening and two symmetrical circular single SRRs were embedded for obtaining three stop‐band characteristics. Two symmetrical slits were inculcated in the ground forming defected ground structure (DGS) to get another stop‐band characteristic. Two concentric rectangular modified SRRs were etched to obtain a higher frequency stop‐band feature. The proposed antenna was designed, fabricated, and experimentally tested for the validation of results. The overall dimensions of the proposed antenna were 29 mm × 24 mm × 1.6 mm. The measured impedance bandwidth of the antenna was 2.87 to 13.3 GHz at | S11 |< ? 10 dB. The measured results show that the proposed antenna has five band notches centred at 3.96, 4.35, 5.7, 8.54, and 9.95 GHz to reject WiMAX band (3.65‐4.04 GHz), ARN band (4.29‐5.18 GHz), WLAN band (5.5‐6.9GHz), ITU‐8 band (7.37‐8.87), and amateur radio band (9.2‐10.3 GHz) respectively. The proposed antenna maintains omnidirectional radiation pattern in H‐Plane and dumbbell‐shape radiation pattern in E‐plane. Further, stable gain over the whole UWB except at notched frequency bands was reported.  相似文献

A compact coplanar waveguide‐fed (CPW) monopole antenna for ultra‐wideband wireless communication is presented. The proposed antenna comprises of a CPW‐fed beveled rectangular patch with a modified slotted ground. The overall size of the antenna is 30 mm × 27 mm × 1.6 mm. The lower edge of the band is attained by properly decoupling the resonant frequencies due to the extended ground plane and the beveled rectangular patch of the antenna. The upper edge of the radiating band is enhanced by beveling the ground plane corners near the feed point. Experimental results show that the designed antenna operates in the 2.7–12 GHz band, for S11 ≤ ?10 dB with a gain of 2.7–5 dBi. Both the frequency domain and time domain characteristics of the antenna are investigated using antenna transfer function. It is observed that the antenna exhibits identical radiation patterns and reasonable transient characteristics over the entire operating band. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
