Abstract

The primary emulsification to form the microballoons was studied. The effects of preparation conditions against the formation of microballoons were examined. The factors examined were metal species in the external aqueous phase, the concentrations of sodium silicate in the internal phase and Cyanex 923 as carrier. The particle size and shell thickness were found 10 µm and 2 µm, respectively. Since the penetration of metal species through the oil phase was promoted by the increase of carrier concentration. The formation of microballoons was completed in a short time of less than 30 min. The formation of microballoons of Co(II), Ni(II), Zn(II), Sr(II), and Cu(II) were used for removal of these metal ions.  相似文献

Abstract

A composite chitosan biosorbent (CCB) was prepared by coating chitosan on to ceramic alumina. The adsorption characteristics of the sorbent for copper and nickel ions were studied under batch equilibrium and dynamic flow conditions at pH 4.0. The equilibrium adsorption data were correlated with Langmuir, Freundlich, and Redlich‐Peterson models. The ultimate monolayer capacities, obtained from Langmuir isotherm, were 86.2 and 78.1 mg/g of chitosan for Cu(II) and Ni(II), respectively. In addition, dynamic column adsorption studies were conducted to obtain breakthrough curves. After the column was saturated with metal ions, it was regenerated with 0.1 M sodium hydroxide. The regenerated column was used for a second adsorption cycle.  相似文献

This study is aimed at the synthesis and characterization of the mesoporous magnetic-poly(divinylbenzene-1-vinylimidazole)[m-poly(DVB-VIM))microbeads(average diameter = 53–212 µm); their application as adsorbent in the removal of Cu(II) ions from aqueous solutions was investigated. The mesoporous m-poly(DVB-VIM) microbeads were prepared by copolymerizing of divinylbenzene (DVB) with 1-vinylimidazole (VIM). The mesoporous m-poly(DVB-VIM) microbeads were characterized by N2 adsorption/desorption isotherms, ESR, elemental analysis, scanning electron microscope (SEM), and swelling studies. At fixed solid/solution ratio the various factors affecting adsorption of Cu(II) ions from aqueous solutions such as pH, initial concentration, amount of mesoporousm-poly(DVB-VIM)) microbeads, contact time, and temperature were analyzed. Langmuir, Freundlich, and Dubinin-Radushkvich isotherms were used the model adsorption equilibrium data. The Langmuir isotherm model was the most adequate. The pseudo first-order, pseudo-second-order, Ritch-second-order, and intraparticle diffusion models were used to describe the adsorption kinetics. The experimental data fitted to pseudo second-order kinetic. The study of temperature effect was quantified by calculating various thermodynamic parameters such as Gibbs free energy, enthalpy, and entropy changes. Morever, after the use in adsorption, the mesoporous m-poly(DVB-VIM) microbeads with paramagnetic property was separated via the applied magnetic force. These features make the mesoporous m-poly(DVB-VIM) microbeads a potential candidate for support of Cu(II) ions removal under magnetic field.  相似文献

This work addresses the preparation and characterization of inexpensive adsorbents for the removal of Ni (II) from aqueous solutions. Activated carbon based adsorbents have been prepared from plant based biomass resources, namely Pineapple stem ( Ananas Comosus ) and Bamboo Stem ( Bambuseae ). Adopting phosphoric acid and heat treatment techniques, it has been observed that the bamboo stem activated charcoal (BSAC) and pineapple stem (PS) adsorbents had a BET surface area of 116 and 11.47 m 2 /g, respectively. FTIR analysis indicated that various surface functional groups (such as C ≡ N stretching, stretching vibration of C = O, –CH3 wagging and C–O stretching vibration) contribute towards Ni (II) adsorption. Batch mode adsorption experiments were conducted for these adsorbents in the range of 50–300 mg/L Ni (II) solution concentration, 2–10 pH, 15–300 min. contact time, and 0.02–0.1 g/50 mL dosage. The BSAC adsorbent has been characterized with a metal uptake and %removal of 121.72 mg/g and 92.47, respectively, which corresponds to 45% higher metal uptake than corresponding bamboo based adsorbents presented in the literature. Further experimentation with BSAC enabled to achieve activated charcoal with surface area values similar to that of the commercial activated carbon adsorbent. The bamboo adsorbent has also been evaluated to perform similar to the commercial activated carbon for the removal and recovery of Pd (II) from synthetic electroless plating solutions. Also, a conceptual cost analysis indicated and affirmed towards the potential of the BSAC adsorbents for waste water treatment applications.  相似文献

Poly(acrylamide-maleic acid) resin P(AAm-MA) was prepared by template polymerization. Polyacrylamide PAAm was used as a template for the polymerization of MA in an aqueous solution using gamma rays as the initiator. The effects on the capacity of P(AAm-MA), such as concentration of maleic acid and amount of template polymer, were investigated. P(AAm-MA) has been utilized as an adsorbent for the removal of Co(II) and Ni(II) ions from an aqueous solution. The effects of time of equilibrium, pH, temperatures, and dosage of the adsorbent on the removal of Co(II) and Ni(II) ions have been studied. The equilibrium data were analyzed using the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. The equilibrium process was described well by the Langmuir isotherm model.  相似文献

Abstract

An attempt was made to assess the biosorption potential of rose waste biomass for the removal of Pb(II) and Co(II) ions from synthetic effluents. Biosorption of heavy metal ions (>90%) reached equilibrium in 30 min. Maximum removal of Pb(II) and Co(II) occurred at pH 5 and 6 respectively. The biosorbent dose for efficient uptake of Pb(II) and Co(II) was 0.5 g/L for both metals. The biosorbent size affected the Pb(II) and Co(II) biosorption rate and capacity. Rose waste biomass was found effective for Pb(II) and Co(II) removal from synthetic effluents in the concentration range 10–640 mg/L. Equilibrium sorption studies showed that the extent of Pb(II) and Co(II) uptake by the rose waste biomass was better described by the Langmuir isotherm in comparison to the Freundlich model. The uptake capacities of the two metal ions were 156 and 27.15 mg/g for Pb(II) and Co(II) respectively.  相似文献

In this study, the adsorption of Cu(II) and Zn(II) ions from aqueous solutions onto amidoximated polymerized banana stem (APBS) has been investigated. Infrared spectroscopy was used to confirm graft copolymer formation and amidoxime functionalization. The different variables affecting the sorption capacity such as pH of the solution, adsorption time, initial metal ion concentration, and temperature have been investigated. The optimum pH for maximum adsorption was 10.5 (99.99%) for Zn2+ and 6.0 (99.0%) for Cu2+ at an initial concentration of 10 mg L?1. Equilibrium was achieved approximately within 3 h. The experimental kinetic data were analyzed using pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic models and are well fitted with pseudo- second-order kinetics. The thermodynamic activation parameters such as ΔGo, ΔHo, and ΔSo were determined to predict the nature of adsorption. The temperature dependence indicates an exothermic process. The experimental isotherm data were well fitted to the Langmuir model with maximum adsorption capacities of 42.32 and 85.89 mg g?1 for Cu(II) and Zn(II), respectively, at 20°C. The adsorption efficiency was tested using industrial effluents. Repeated adsorption/regeneration cycles show the feasibility of the APBS for the removal of Cu(II) and Zn(II) ions from water and industrial effluents.  相似文献

Removal of Cu(II) and Ni(II) from aqueous solutions by a novel xanthated carboxymethyl chitosan (XCC) was investigated. XCC obtained was characterized by FTIR, SEM, EDX, and XRD. The adsorption ability of chitosan and XCC toward Cu(II) and Ni(II) was compared. The effect of pH (2.0–7.0), contact time (5–60 min), and adsorption isotherms on adsorption were also investigated. It was observed that the modified chitosan XCC showed a remarkable increase in Cu(II) and Ni(II) adsorption as compared to chitosan and displayed a quick adsorption performance. Further, The Langmuir isotherm was found to provide the best correlation of the experimental data and the adsorption capacity obtained from the Langmuir model was 174.2 mg/g and 128.4 mg/g for Cu(II) and Ni(II), respectively. FTIR and UV spectra suggested that the amino groups, carboxyl groups, and xanthate groups of XCC participated in the adsorption.  相似文献

Kaolinite and montmorillonite were modified with tetrabutylammonium (TBA) bromide, followed by calcination. The structural changes were monitored with XRD, FTIR, surface area and cation exchange capacity measurements. The modified clay minerals were used for adsorption of Fe(III), Co(II) and Ni(II) ions from aqueous solution under different conditions of pH, time and temperature. The uptake of the metal ions took place by a second order kinetics. The modified montmorillonite had a higher adsorption capacity than the corresponding kaolinite. The Langmuir monolayer capacities for the modified kaolinite and montmorillonite were Fe(III): 9.3 mg g− 1 and 22.6 mg g− 1; Co(II): 9.0 mg g− 1 and 22.3 mg g− 1; and Ni(II): 8.4 mg g− 1 and 19.7 mg g− 1. The modified kaolinite interacted with Co(II) in an endothermic manner, but all the other interactions were exothermic. The decrease of the Gibbs energy in all the cases indicated spontaneous adsorption.  相似文献

Abstract

The present study deals with the competitive adsorption of cadmium (Cd(II)) and zinc (Zn(II)) ions onto bagasse fly ash (BFA) from binary systems. BFA is a waste obtained from the bagasse‐fired boilers of sugar mills. The initial pH≈6.0 is found to be the optimum for the individual removal of Cd(II) and Zn(II) ions by BFA. The equilibrium adsorption data were obtained at different initial concentrations (C 0 = 10–100 mg/l), 5 h contact time, 30°C temperature, BFA dosage of 10 mg/l at pH 0 = 6. The Redlich–Peterson (R–P) and the Freundlich models represent the single ion equilibrium adsorption data better than the Langmuir model. The adsorption capacities in the binary‐metal mixtures are in the order Zn(II)>Cd(II) and is in agreement with the single‐component adsorption data. The equilibrium metal removal decreases with increasing concentrations of the other metal ion and the combined action of Cd(II) and Zn(II) ions on BFA is found to be antagonistic. Equilibrium isotherms for the binary adsorption of Cd(II) and Zn(II) ions on BFA have been analyzed by non‐modified Langmuir, modified Langmuir, extended‐Langmuir, Sheindorf–Rebuhn–Sheintuch (SRS), non‐modified R–P and modified R–P adsorption models. The isotherm model fitting has been done by minimizing the Marquardt's percent standard deviation (MPSD) error function using MS Excel. The SRS model satisfactory fits for most of the adsorption equilibrium data of Cd(II) and Zn(II) ions onto BFA.  相似文献

2-[4-(Methylthio)phenyl]-2,3-dihydro-1,3-benzothiazole (1) and bis[4-(methylthio)phenylmethylene-aminophenyl] disulfide (2) were synthesized. Novel coordination compounds of Ni(II) and Co(II) with 2-[4-(methylthio)phenylmethyleneamino]thiophenol, M(1)2 (M=Co (3); M=Ni (4)), were prepared by reacting 1 with M(OAc)2·6H2O or MCl2·6H2O in EtOH solution. The structure of 2 was proved by X-ray crystallography. Electrochemical behavior of 1–4 in CH3CN solution and at the surface of a gold electrode was studied by cyclic voltammetry. The modification of the electrode by ligand 1 and its complexes with Ni2+ and Co2+ is described in detail. Two procedures were used to obtain a self-assembled monolayer of a metal complex on the gold surface: the adsorption of prepared coordination compound 3 or 4 on the electrode and the initial modification of the electrode with ligand 1 followed by the formation of a coordination complex between the ligand adsorbed on the electrode and a metal salt occurring in solution. On the basis of the electrochemical data, it was found that the structure of complexes formed on the surface differs from that of the complexes produced in solution.  相似文献

A novel nanometer-sized chelating resin (NSCR) was prepared via two steps, First step: copolymerization reaction of N-methacryloxyphtalimide (NMP) with methylenebisacrylamide (MBA) by suspension polymerization method to give ultrafine poly (NMP-co-MBA). Second step: reaction of triethylenetetramine (TETA) with poly (NMP-co-MBA) to give NSCR. The prepared NSCR was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Brunauer-Emmett-Taller (BET) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). This study illustrated the capability of NSCR for extraction of Cu(II), Co(II) and Ni(II) from aquatic solutions. The pH effect, metal ions concentration, temperature and contact time were elaborated in batch experiments. The results showed that high capacities were 1.3, 1.0 and 0.95 mmol/g resin for Cu(II), Ni(II) and Co(II) ions, respectively. The experimental data of adsorption isotherms were convenient for Langmuir isotherm, and the kinetic data illustrated that the removal process was described by pseudo-second order kinetic model. The parameters of Thermo dynamic illustrated that the process of adsorption was endothermic and spontaneous reaction. The prepared NSCR was regenerated and used repetitively for five times with small decrease in adsorption capacity.  相似文献

The extraction and stripping of Co(II), Ni(II), Cr(III) and Fe(III) from aqueous solutions by rosin dissolved in toluene has been investigated. Results obtained show that rosin is better extractant than abietic or n-lauric acids under comparable conditions. From these results, and the data of Mn(II) solvent extraction studied previously under the same conditions, a separation and concentration process for these five cations in aqueous solutions has been designed. Saturated solutions of Fe(III), Cr(III), Mn(II) and finally Co(II) and Ni(II) have been obtained successively by extraction and stripping, by addition of ammonium hydroxide to obtain the appropriate pH value, and by modifying adequately the organic phase/aqueous phase volume ratio.  相似文献

Abstract

Kaolinite and montmorillonite were treated with 0.25 M H2SO4 and the acid activated clays along with the parent clays were tested for their uptake capacity for Ni(II) ions from aqueous solution. The batch adsorption experiments were conducted under a set of variables (concentration of Ni(II) ion, amount of clay, pH, time and temperature of interaction). Increasing pH favored Ni(II) uptake till the ions were precipitated as the insoluble hydroxides at pH > 8.0. The uptake was rapid up to 40 min and equilibrium was obtained within 180 min. The kinetics of the process was evaluated by subjecting the results to a number of models like the pseudo-first order, second order, Elovich equation, liquid film diffusion, and intra-particle diffusion and it was found that the data more closely resembled a second order process. The experimental data conformed to both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms showing that the interactions were mostly chemical in nature. The clays had reasonable monolayer adsorption capacity of 10.4, 11.9, 28.4, and 29.5 mg g?1 for kaolinite, acid activated kaolinite, montmorillonite, and acid-activated montmorillonite respectively. Montmorillonite had much better adsorption capacity than kaolinite and the acid activation boosted the adsorption capacity of both kaolinite and montmorillonite. The interactions were exothermic in nature, accompanied by decrease in both entropy and Gibbs energy. The results have established good potentiality for kaolinite, montmorillonite and their acid-activated forms to take up and separate Ni(II) from aqueous medium through adsorption-mediated immobilization.  相似文献

Abstract

A novel adsorbent, formaldehyde polymerized tamarind fruit shell (FPTFS) containing sulphonic acid functional groups was prepared and its utility for Hg(II) adsorption from water and wastewater was investigated. The kinetic and isotherm data, obtained at optimum pH value 6.0 for different concentrations and temperatures, could be fitted with the Ritchie modified second-order equation and Sips isotherm model respectively and the coefficients indicated favorable adsorption of Hg(II) on the FPTFS. The complete removal of 23.86 mg/L Hg(II) from chlor-alkali industry wastewater was achieved by 4 g/L FPTFS. The reusability of the FPTFS for several cycles was also demonstrated using 0.1 M HCl solution.  相似文献

The selective transport of copper(II), zinc(II), cobalt(II), and nickel(II) ions from nitrate solutions across polymer inclusion membranes (PIMs), which consist of cellulose triacetate as polymeric support, o-nitrophenyl pentyl ether as plasticizer, and 1-alkylimidazole (alkyl from hexyl- to decyl) as ion carrier was reported. PIM was characterized by using atomic force microscopy (AFM) technique. The results show that Cu(II) can be separated very effectively from other transition metal cations as Zn(II), Co(II), and Ni(II) (at a concentration of 10?3 mol/dm3 each). Alkyl substituents at position 1 of the imidazole ring have been found to affect the hydrophobic properties and initial flux of the transported metal ions. The efficiency of separation of metal ions by 1-alkylimidazole followed the sequence: Cu(II) > Zn(II) > Co(II) > Ni(II). The highest selectivity coefficient for Cu(II) was found with 1-hexylimidazole and its 1 mol/dm3 solution in PIM. Separation of the ions was more effective for the nitrates(V) than for chlorides.  相似文献

Abstract

The biosorption of Cu(II) and Zn(II) using dried untreated and pretreated Citrus reticulata waste biomass were evaluated. The Cu(II) and Zn(II) sorption were found to be dependent on the solution pH, the biosorbent dose, the biosorbent particle size, the shaking speed, the temperature, the initial metal ions (800 mg/L), and the contact time. Twenty-eight physical and chemical pretreatments of Citrus reticulata waste biomass were evaluated for the sorption of Cu(II) and Zn(II) from aqueous solutions. The results indicated that biomass pretreated with sulphuric acid and EDTA had maximum Cu(II) and Zn(II) uptake capacity of 87.14 mg/g and 86.4 mg/g respectively. Moreover, the Langmuir isotherm model fitted well than the Freundlich model with R 2 > 0.95 for both metal ions. The sorption of Cu(II) and Zn(II) occurred rapidly in the first 120 min and the equilibrium was reached in 240 min. FTIR and SEM studies were also carried out to investigate functional groups present in the biomass and the surface morphological changes of biomass.  相似文献

Activated carbon prepared from Eichhornia was used for the adsorptive removal of Pb(II) from aqueous solution. As the raw material for the preparation of the activated carbon is an aquatic weed, the production of this carbon is expected to be economically feasible. Parameters such as agitation time, metal ion concentration, adsorbent dose and pH were studied. Adsorption equilibrium was reached in 100 min for a solution containing 15 mgdm?3 and 125 min for solutions containing 20 and 25 mgdm?3 Pb(II), respectively. Adsorption parameters were determined using both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. The adsorption capacity was 16.61 mgg?1 at pH 3.0 for particle sizes of 125–180 µm. Pb(II) removal increased as the pH increased from 2 to 4 and remained constant up to pH 10.0. Desorption studies were also carried out with dilute hydrochloric acid to recover both carbon and Pb(II). Quantitative desorption of Pb(II) from carbon indicates that adsorption of metal ion is by ion exchange. © 2002 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A high-surface-area activated carbon was prepared by chemical activation of Glycyrrhiza glabra residue with ZnCl2 as active agent. Then, the adsorption behavior of Pb(II) and Ni(II) ion onto produced activated carbon has been studied. The experimental data were fitted to various isotherm models. According to Langmuir model, the maximum adsorption capacity of Pb(II) and Ni(II) ions were found to be 200 and 166.7 mg g−1, respectively, at room temperature. Kinetic studies showed the adsorption process followed pseudo second-order rate model. High values of intra-particle rate constants calculated shows the high tendency of activated carbon for removal of Pb(II) and Ni(II) ions.  相似文献

Chitosan-graft-polyacrylamide semi-interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) superabsorbent hydrogel was prepared via UV irradiation and N, N′-methylene-bis-acrylamide was used as crosslinker. The product was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The hydrogels were observed to exhibit as much as 2580.2% swelling under optimum reaction conditions. The hydrogel is an efficient selective sorbent for the removal of mercuric ions (Hg(II)) from aqueous solutions. The mercury sorption capacity under non-buffered conditions is achieved around 9.98 mmol · g?1 (or 2001.8 mg (mercury)/g (hydrogel)) via the colorimetric method. The kinetic data were fitted to the pseudo second order model. Furthermore, the influence of pH, hydrogel dose, and initial mercury concentration on adsorption capacity of the semi-IPN hydrogel was evaluated. Also, the isothermal adsorption equilibrium data was described using the Langmuir model. Finally, the mercury loaded hydrogel was regenerated without losing its original activity and stability.  相似文献
