The adsorption characteristics of Pb(II) and Cd(II) onto colemanite ore waste (CW) from aqueous solution were investigated as a function of pH, adsorbent dosage, contact time, and temperature. Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) models were applied to describe the adsorption isotherms. Langmuir model fitted the equilibrium data better than the Freundlich isotherm. The adsorption capacity of CW was found to be 33.6 mg/g and 29.7 mg/g for Pb(II) and Cd(II) ions, respectively. Analyte ions were desorbed from CW using both 1 M HCl and 1 M HNO3. The recovery for both metal ions was found to be higher than 95%. The mean adsorption energies evaluated using the D-R model indicated that the adsorption of Pb(II) and Cd(II) onto CW were taken place by chemisorption. The thermodynamic parameters (ΔGo, ΔHo and ΔSo) showed that the adsorption of both metal ions was feasible, spontaneous and exothermic at 20-50 °C. Adsorption mechanisms were also investigated using the pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic models. The kinetic results showed that the adsorption of Pb(II) and Cd(II) onto CW followed well pseudo-second order kinetics.  相似文献

Using attapulgite (ATP) as matrix, chitosan (CS) as functional monomer, and introducing the surface ionimprinting concept, a new Cu(II)-IIP was prepared, and characterized by SEM, XRD and FT-IR. The adsorption of Cu(II) aqueous solution with Cu(II)-IIP was investigated by flame atomic adsorption spectroscopy (FAAS). The polymer has good selectivity for Cu(II) from competitive metal ions, and the selectivity coefficient of Cu(II) relation to Pb(II), Cd(II) was 78.45 and 82.44, respectively. Sorption equilibrium isotherms could be described by Langmuir and Freundlich models; the Freundlich isotherm has shown the best agreement with experimental data, and experimental value of maximum adsorption capacity for Cu(II) was 35.20 mg/g. The obtained thermodynamic parameter (ΔG o , ΔH o , ΔS o ) showed that the Cu(II) adsorption process is a spontaneous and endothermic process. The kinetic data showed that pseudo-second-order kinetic model agrees very well with the dynamic behavior for the sorption of Cu(II) onto Cu(II)-IIP.   相似文献

In this study, the adsorption of Cu(II) and Zn(II) ions from aqueous solutions onto amidoximated polymerized banana stem (APBS) has been investigated. Infrared spectroscopy was used to confirm graft copolymer formation and amidoxime functionalization. The different variables affecting the sorption capacity such as pH of the solution, adsorption time, initial metal ion concentration, and temperature have been investigated. The optimum pH for maximum adsorption was 10.5 (99.99%) for Zn2+ and 6.0 (99.0%) for Cu2+ at an initial concentration of 10 mg L?1. Equilibrium was achieved approximately within 3 h. The experimental kinetic data were analyzed using pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic models and are well fitted with pseudo- second-order kinetics. The thermodynamic activation parameters such as ΔGo, ΔHo, and ΔSo were determined to predict the nature of adsorption. The temperature dependence indicates an exothermic process. The experimental isotherm data were well fitted to the Langmuir model with maximum adsorption capacities of 42.32 and 85.89 mg g?1 for Cu(II) and Zn(II), respectively, at 20°C. The adsorption efficiency was tested using industrial effluents. Repeated adsorption/regeneration cycles show the feasibility of the APBS for the removal of Cu(II) and Zn(II) ions from water and industrial effluents.  相似文献

Adsorption of atrazine (ATZ) from aqueous solutions by granular activated carbon (GAC) and carbon nanotubes (CNT) was studied in a batch‐mode adsorption system at different initial concentrations of ATZ (1.0–30.0 mg L–1) and at three temperatures of 288, 296 and 304 K. The adsorption isotherms of Langmuir, Freundlich, Polanyi–Manes, and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (modified) were used to model the process. The adsorption kinetics followed a pseudo‐second‐order kinetic model. The thermodynamic parameters ΔH0, ΔS0, and ΔG0 of the adsorption were estimated. The thermodynamic parameters indicate that the adsorption process is spontaneous and exothermic.  相似文献

In this study, the removal of copper(II) and lead(II) ions from aqueous solutions by Starch-graft-acrylic acid/montmorillonite (S-g-AA/MMT) nanocomposite hydrogels was investigated. For this purpose, various factors affecting the removal of heavy metal ions, such as treatment time with the solution, initial pH of the solution, initial metal ion concentration, and MMT content were investigated. The metal ion removal capacities of copolymers increased with increasing pH, and pH 4 was found to be the optimal pH value for maximum metal removal capacity. Adsorption data of the nanocomposite hydrogels were modeled by the pseudo-second-order kinetic equation in order to investigate heavy metal ions adsorption mechanism. The observed affinity order in competitive removal of heavy metals was found Cu2+ > Pb2+. The Freundlich equations were used to fit the equilibrium isotherms. The Freundlich adsorption law was applicable to be adsorption of metal ions onto nanocomposite hydrogel.  相似文献

Montmorillonite KSF and K10 were used as precursor materials for synthesis of aluminum pillared K10 and KSF (Al-K10 and Al-KSF) which characterized by TGA, XRD, SEM and FT-IR spectroscopic analysis. The sorption of trimethoprim (TMP) which is commonly employed as an antibiotic onto Al-K10 and Al-KSF was also investigated as a function of adsorbent dosage, solution pH, contact time and temperature. The adsorption kinetics was interpreted using pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order kinetic models and intraparticle diffusion model. The pseudo-second-order model provided the best correlation. Adsorption isotherm parameters were obtained from Freundlich, Langmuir and Dubinin–Radushkevich (DR) isotherm models. Adsorption of TMP onto Al-K10 and Al-KSF was physical in nature and ion-exchange mechanism for DR equation, respectively. Al-K10 exhibits higher removal capacity at lower adsorbent dosages in comparison with Al-KSF. The removal capacity was increased by increasing pH. ΔH0, ΔS0 and ΔG0 showed that adsorption of trimethoprim was endothermic, increasing randomness and not spontaneous in nature.  相似文献

The aim of the present work was to investigate the adsorption of Ce(III) and Sm(III) onto multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) oxidized with concentrate nitric acid. The effects of solution pH, adsorbent dosage, and contact time were studied by batch technique. Langmuir, Freundlich and D-R isotherms were used to describe the adsorption behavior of Ce(III) and Sm(III) by oxidized MWCNTs, and the experimental results fitted Freundlich model well. The maximum uptake capacities (q m ) calculated by applying the Langmuir equation for samarium and cerium ions were found to be 89.28 and 92.59 (mg/g), respectively. A comparison of the kinetic models and the overall experimental data was best fitted by the pseudo second-order kinetic model. The calculated thermodynamic parameters (ΔGo, ΔHo, and ΔSo) showed that the adsorption for Ce(III) and Sm(III) is feasible, spontaneous and exothermic at 30–60 °C. Moreover, more than 70% of Ce(III) and Sm(III) adsorbed onto Oxidized MWCNTs could be desorbed with HNO3.  相似文献

Abstract

The removal of basic dye crystal violet by low-cost biosorbents was investigated in this study using a batch experimental system. The adsorption of crystal violet onto various adsorbents was solution pH-dependent and the maximum removal occurred at basic pH 10.0. The kinetic experimental data were analyzed using pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order equations to examine the adsorption mechanism and the intraparticle diffusion model to identify the potential rate controlling step. These results suggested that the adsorption of crystal violet onto various adsorbents was best represented by the pseudo-second-order equation. The suitability of the Langmuir and Freundich adsorption isotherms to the equilibrium data was also investigated at various temperatures for all four sorbents and the adsorption isotherms exhibited Freundlich behavior. The Freundlich constant Kf was 1.55 for alligator weed, 2.33 for Laminaria japonica, 9.59 for rice bran and 5.38 (mg/g)/(mg/L)1/n for wheat bran, respectively at adsorbent concentration 5 g/L, pH 10.0 and 20°C. The thermodynamic parameters (ΔH, ΔG, and ΔS) were calculated and the results showed that the adsorption process for various adsorbents was spontaneous, endothermic, with an increased randomness, respectively. The particle size and the reaction temperature exhibited an insignificant impact on the adsorption equilibrium of crystal violet. The adsorbents investigated could serve as low-cost adsorbents for removing the crystal violet from aqueous solution.  相似文献

Two chemically modified starch derivatives, crosslinked amino starch (CAS) and dithiocarbamates modified starch (DTCS), were prepared and used for the removal of Cu(II) from aqueous solutions. CAS was found to be effective for the adsorption of Cu(II), which tended to form a stable amine complex. Adsorption of Cu(II) onto DTCS was higher than that onto CAS. Experiments showed that the adsorption processes of Cu(II) on both CAS and DTCS were endothermic, and followed Freundlich isothermal adsorption. For both adsorbents, dynamic modeling of their adsorption showed that the first‐order reversible kinetic model described the adsorption process. The adsorption rate constants of CAS and DTCS were 1.578 and 10.32 h?1, respectively. From the results of the thermodynamic analysis, free energy ΔG, enthalpy ΔH, and entropy ΔS of the adsorption process were calculated. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Noncompetitive adsorption of Zn (II) and Cd(II) from aqueous solution was carried out using Poly(Acrylate-Acrylic acid)(PAA) and Poly(Acrylate -Acrylic acid-co-Maleic acid)(PAAAM) hydrogels as adsorbents. Adsorption capacity was affected by the adsorbate concentration, temperature, and time and was investigated in detail. Results showed a decrease in adsorption with increase in the temperature whereas a steady increase followed by an equilibrium state (within 60 min.) was observed with time. The maximum adsorption capacity obtained for Zn2+ and Cd2+ were 227.89 and 369.51 mg/g, respectively. Even though the isotherms could be explained both with Langmuir and Freundlich, the present result was better explained by the Freundlich isotherm. This points to the fact that the hydrogel surface is heterogeneous and the adsorption occurred is a multilayered one. Adsorption was well modeled by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. All metal ions used in the studies were successfully desorbed using 0.1 N HCl and the regeneration of hydrogel took place even after four cycles without any loss in its adsorption capacity.  相似文献

Adsorption equilibrium of two amino acids — Phenylalanine (Phe) and Tryptophane (Trp) — onto nonionic polymeric sorbent, SP850 was studied under various pH values and temperatures. Adsorption equilibrium data of two amino acids on SP850 were fitted well with the Langmuir and Freundlich equations. Thermodynamic parameters such as Gibbs free energy (ΔG), enthalpy (ΔH), and entropy (ΔS) were evaluated by applying the Van’t Hoff equation. Besides, adsorption kinetic of Phe was also investigated. Adsorption kinetic data were analyzed using the models of pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order and intraparticle diffusion. The results indicated that the pseudo-second-order model was more successful in simulating the adsorption kinetic data and the adsorption rate was mainly controlled by the diffusion rate in adsorption process. On the other hand, desorption studies were conducted by employing different organic solvents such as isopropyl alcohol (IPA), ethanol, and methanol. It was found that IPA was the best material for desorbing amino acid on the polymeric sorbent.  相似文献

Cashew nut shell (CNS) is a low cost adsorbent that has been used for the removal of cadmium(II) from an aqueous solution. The effects of various parameters such as solution pH, CNS concentration, contact time, initial cadmium(II) concentration and temperature were examined. The CNS was effective for the quantitative removal of cadmium(II) ions in acidic conditions and equilibrium was achieved in 30 min. The experimental data were analyzed by two-parameter (Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Dubinin-Radushkevich) and three-parameter models (Redlich- Peterson, Koble-Corrigan, Toth and Sips) by nonlinear regression analysis. The characteristic parameters for each isotherms and related correlation coefficients have been determined by using MATLAB 7.1. Thermodynamic parameters such as ??G o , ??H o and ??S o have also been evaluated, and it was found that the sorption process was feasible, spontaneous and exothermic. Pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, Elovich kinetic and intraparticle diffusion models were selected to follow the adsorption process. The results of the kinetic study show that the adsorption of cadmium(II) could be described by the pseudo-second order equation, suggesting that the adsorption process is presumably chemisorption. A single-stage batch adsorber was designed for different adsorbent dose-to-effluent volume ratios using the Freundlich equation. The results indicate that the cashew nut shell could be used to effectively adsorb cadmium(II) from an aqueous solution.  相似文献

Kinetic and isothermal studies of lead ion adsorption onto bentonite   总被引:4,自引:1,他引:3
The use of bentonite for the removal of Pb(II) from aqueous solutions for different contact times, pH of suspension, and initial concentration of Pb and particle sizes of absorbent was investigated. Batch adsorption kinetic experiments revealed that the adsorption of Pb(II) onto bentonite involved fast and slow processes. The adsorption mechanisms in the lead/bentonite system followed pseudo-second-order kinetics with a significant contribution of film diffusion. The adsorption isotherms were described by means of the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms and the Langmuir model represented the adsorption process better than the Freundlich model. The maximum adsorption capacity of Pb(II) onto natural bentonite was 78.82 mg g− 1.  相似文献

This paper presents the adsorption of Cu(II) ions from aqueous solution on Na and Fe-modified clinoptilolite. The copper adsorption experiments were performed in a batch system considering an optimum contact time of 24 h. Changes in the surfaces and structure were characterized by SEM data. According to the SEM results, it was anticipated that the removal efficiency of Fe-modified clinoptilolite was the highest compared with the natural and Na-modified clinoptilolites. Adsorption of Cu(II) ions by modified clinoptilolites was investigated as a function of the initial Cu(II) concentration, solution pH, and temperature. According to the results, the maximum adsorbed Cu amount onto Fe-modified was 19.40mg/l at the optimum operating condition with a pH value of 5.5 and temperature of 60 °C. According to the thermodynamic evaluations, positive ΔS and negative ΔG were found for the adsorption process showing that the adsorption reaction is a spontaneous process and more favorable at high temperatures. Sorption data have been interpreted in terms of Langmuir and Freundlich, Temkin and Dubinin-Radushkevich. The adsorption equilibrium was best described by the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. In addition, according to the Sips model, the sorption of Cu(II) ions on the Fe-modified clinoptilolite was found to be heterogeneous. The kinetic study showed that the Fe-modified clinoptilolite followed the pseudo-second order model. The results indicated that the clinoptilolite-rich tuff in its iron oxide form could be efficiently used for the removal of copper from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

The present work deals with the use of Caesalpinia bonducella seed powder (CBSP) as a biosorbent for Ni(II) removal from aqueous solution. The nature and morphology of the sorbent were determined using FTIR spectral, SEM, and EDX analysis. The biosorption characteristics of Ni(II) onto CBSP was investigated as a function of pH, biosorbent dosage, contact time, initial metal ion concentration, and temperature. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms were used to fit the experimental data. The best interpretation for the equilibrium data was given by the Langmuir isotherm. The maximum biosorption capacity was found to be 188.7 mg/g for Ni(II) at pH 5.0 and at 323 K. The equilibrium biosorption data were well fitted with the pseudo-second-order kinetic equation. The values of thermodynamic parameters (ΔGo, ΔHo, and ΔSo) indicated that the biosorption of Ni(II) onto CBSP was feasible, spontaneous and exothermic in nature. The FTIR results revealed that hydroxyl, amine, carboxyl, and carbonyl functional groups are responsible for Ni(II) biosorption onto CBSP.  相似文献

Good sorption properties and simple synthesis route make schwertmannite an increasingly popular adsorbent. In this work, the adsorption properties of synthetic schwertmannite towards Cr(VI) were investigated. This study aimed to compare the properties and sorption performance of adsorbents obtained by two methods: Fe3+ hydrolysis (SCHA) and Fe2+ oxidation (SCHB). To characterise the sorbents before and after Cr(VI) adsorption, specific surface area, particle size distribution, density, and zeta potential were determined. Additionally, optical micrographs, SEM, and FTIR analyses were performed. Adsorption experiments were performed in varying process conditions: pH, adsorbent dosage, contact time, and initial concentration. Adsorption isotherms were fitted by Freundlich, Langmuir, and Temkin models. Pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, intraparticle diffusion, and liquid film diffusion models were used to fit the kinetics data. Linear regression was used to estimate the parameters of isotherm and kinetic models. The maximum adsorption capacity resulting from the fitted Langmuir isotherm is 42.97 and 17.54 mg·g−1 for SCHA and SCHB. Results show that the adsorption kinetics follows the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Both iron-based adsorbents are suitable for removing Cr(VI) ions from aqueous solutions. Characterisation of the adsorbents after adsorption suggests that Cr(VI) adsorption can be mainly attributed to ion exchange with SO42 groups.  相似文献

In the present study, PS@α‐Fe2O3 nanocomposites were prepared by chemical microemulsion polymerization approach and the ability of magnetic beads to remove Cu(II) ions from aqueous solutions in a batch media was investigated. Various physico‐chemical parameters such as pH, initial metal ion concentration, temperature, and equilibrium contact time were also studied. Adsorption mechanism of Cu2+ ions onto magnetic polymeric adsorbents has been investigated using Langmuir, Freundlich, Sips and Redlich–Petersen isotherms. The results demonstrated that the PS@α‐Fe2O3 nanocomposite is an effective adsorbent for Cu2+ ions removal. The Sips adsorption isotherm model (R2 > 0.99) was more in consistence with the adsorption isotherm data of Cu(II) ions compared to other models and the maximum adsorbed amount of copper was 34.25 mg/g. The adsorption kinetics well fitted to a pseudo second‐order kinetic model. The thermodynamic parameters (ΔH°, ΔS°, and ΔG°) were calculated from the temperature dependent sorption isotherms, and the results suggested that copper adsorption was a spontaneous and exothermic process. In this study, phenolated wood resin was used an adsorbent for the removal of Cr(III), Ni(II), Zn(II), Co(II) ions by adsorption from aqueous solution. The adsorption of metal ions from solution was carried at different contact times, concentrations and pHs at room temperature (25°C). For individual metal ion, the amount of metal ions adsorbed per unit weight of phenolated wood resin at equilibrium time increased with increasing concentration and pH. Also, when the amounts of metal ions adsorbed are compared to each other, it was seen that this increase was order of Cr(III) > Ni(II) > Zn(II) > Co(II). This increase was order of Cr(III) > Ni(II) > Co(II) > Zn(II) for commercial phenol–formaldehyde resin. Kinetic studies showed that the adsorption process obeyed the intraparticle diffusion model. It was also determined that adsorption isotherm followed Langmuir and Freundlich models. Adsorption isotherm obtained for commercial phenol–formaldehyde resin was consistent with Freundlich model well. Adsorption capacities from Langmuir isotherm for commercial phenol–formaldehyde resin were higher than those of phenolated wood resin, in the case of individual metal ions. Original adsorption isotherm demonstrated the monolayer coverage of the surface of phenolated wood resin. Adsorption kinetic followed the intraparticle diffusion model. The positive values of ΔG° determined using the equilibrium constants showed that the adsorption was not of spontaneous nature. It was seen that values of distribution coefficient (KD) decreasing with metal ion concentration in solution at equilibrium (Ce) indicated that the occupation of active surface sites of adsorbent increased with metal ions. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Equilibrium, thermodynamic, and kinetic studies on the biosorption of Cu(II) using biomass, Trichoderma viride were carried out. The biosorbent was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy. The Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were applied to describe the biosorption process. The influence of pH, the biomass dosage, the contact time, the initial metal ion concentration, and the temperature of the solution on the biosorption was studied. The maximum Cu(II) biosorption was attained at pH 5. The equilibrium data were better fit by the Langmuir isotherm model than by the Freundlich isotherm. The maximum biosorption capacity of T. viride biomass was found to be 19.6 mg/g for Cu(II). The kinetic studies indicated that the biosorption of Cu(II) followed the pseudo-second-order model. The calculated thermodynamic parameters, Gibbs-free energy (ΔGo), enthalpy (ΔHo), and entropy (ΔSo) showed that the biosorption of Cu(II) onto T. viride biomass was spontaneous and endothermic. It can be concluded that the T. viride biomass has the potential as an effective and low-cost biosorbent for Cu(II) removal from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

In this study, N-isopropylacrylamide/itaconic acid (NIPAAm/IA) hydrogels prepared by irradiating with γ radiation were used in experiments on cesium ion adsorption. The cesium ion adsorption capacity of the hydrogels was investigated as a function of Cs+ concentration, pH and temperature. The adsorption behavior of cesium was evaluated by using the radiotracer method. The adsorption isotherm models were applied to the experimental data, and it was seen that Freundlich isotherm explained the adsorption better than Langmuir isotherm. Two simplified kinetic models including pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order equation were selected to follow the adsorption processes. The Cs+ adsorption could be best described by the pseudo-first-order equation. The thermodynamic parameters including ΔG°, ΔH° and ΔS° for adsorption processes of Cs+ on the hydrogel were also calculated, and the negative ΔH° and ΔG° confirmed that the adsorption process was exothermic and spontaneous.  相似文献
