Models are becoming increasingly important in the software development process. As a consequence, the number of models being used is increasing, and so is the need for efficient mechanisms to search them. Various existing search engines could be used for this purpose, but they lack features to properly search models, mainly because they are strongly focused on text-based search. This paper presents Moogle, a model search engine that uses metamodeling information to create richer search indexes and to allow more complex queries to be performed. The paper also presents the results of an evaluation of Moogle, which showed that the metamodel information improves the accuracy of the search.  相似文献

We present a software tool called seft which balances the convenience of search tools such as grep with the functionality of full‐text index‐based information retrieval. Based on a novel retrieval heuristic which uses term locality as a guide to relevance, seft combines the freedom of natural language queries with the benefits of a ranked answer list and easy inspection of retrieval results. While not as fast as grep ‐style tools, seft provides a valuable facility for impromptu personal information retrieval tasks. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We present a new next generation domain search engine called MedicoPort. MedicoPort is a medical search engine designed for the users with no medical expertise. It is enhanced with the domain knowledge obtained from Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) to increase the effectiveness of the searches. The power of the system is based on the ability to understand the semantics of web pages and the user queries. MedicoPort transforms a keyword search into a conceptual search. Through our system we present a topical web crawling technique and indexing techniques empowered by the semantics information. MedicoPort aims to generate maximum output with semantic value using minimum input from the user. Since MedicoPort is designed to help people seeking information about health on the web, our target users are not medical specialists who can effectively use the special jargon of medicine and access medical databases. Medical experts have the advantage of shrinking the answer set by expressing several terms using medical terminology. MedicoPort provides the same advantage to its users through the automated use of the medical domain knowledge in the background. The results of our experiments indicate that, expanding the queries with domain knowledge, such as using the synonyms and partially or contextually relevant terms from UMLS, increase dramatically the relevance of an answer set produced by MedicoPort and the number of retrieved web pages that are relevant to the user request.  相似文献

Using JavaBeans and CORBA agents in conjunction with Web search technologies, this prototype search engine (Agora), automatically generates and indexes a worldwide database of software products, classified by component model. Users of Agora can search for components in this database by describing specific properties of a component's interface. The system combines Web search engines with an introspection process. Introspection, primarily associated with JavaBeans, describes the capability of components to provide information about their own interfaces. The Common Object Request Broker Architecture offers a similar capability, although this data is maintained external to the CORBA server in an interface repository  相似文献

The problem of obtaining relevant results in web searching has been tackled with several approaches. Although very effective techniques are currently used by the most popular search engines when no a priori knowledge on the user's desires beside the search keywords is available, in different settings it is conceivable to design search methods that operate on a thematic database of web pages that refer to a common body of knowledge or to specific sets of users. We have considered such premises to design and develop a search method that deploys data mining and optimization techniques to provide a more significant and restricted set of pages as the final result of a user search. We adopt a vectorization method based on search context and user profile to apply clustering techniques that are then refined by a specially designed genetic algorithm. In this paper we describe the method, its implementation, the algorithms applied, and discuss some experiments that has been run on test sets of web pages.  相似文献

An appropriate promotion, distribution and dissemination of scientific, artistic and technology developments can foster the collaboration between a country’s productive and academic sectors. The purpose of this paper is to present a novel search engine aiming at helping people to access science and technology advances, researchers and institutions working in specific areas of research. Our search engine first collects information disseminated on the Web in academic institution sites and in researchers personal homepages. Then, after intensive text processing, it summarizes the information in an enriched and user-friendly presentation oriented to non-expert users. Stable performance and an acceptable level of effectiveness for automatic named entities recognition indicate the potential of our approach for bridging the gap between the heterogeneous and unstructured information available on the Web about the research and development advances in a country and the innovation required by the productive sectors.  相似文献

This research investigates how an inferior search engine can impact its competition with a superior search engine by introducing a knowledge-sharing service. Specifically, we model the dynamic competition between an inferior search engine with a knowledge-sharing service and a pure superior search engine. We show that the degree to which the knowledge-sharing service helps the inferior search engine to enlarge its market share increases as the amount of online content decreases and the complexity of searchers' questions increases. We also find that the inferior search engine is generally advised to close its database of answers for more market share.  相似文献

This article describes a research project aimed at improving search engine usability for sightless persons who use assistive technology to navigate the web. At the beginning of this research, a preliminary study was performed concerning accessibility and usability of search tools, and eight guidelines were formulated for designing search engine user interfaces. Then, the derived guidelines were applied in modifying the source code of Google’s interface, while maintaining the same look and feel, in order to demonstrate that with very little effort it is possible to make interaction easier, more efficient, and less frustrating for sightless individuals. The increasing use of structured information on the web demands new ways of searching and integrating data from different sources. In this paper, we focus on the use of unique representations of data objects in terms of public repositories (in this case MusicBrainz) and the use of recommendation mechanisms as a basis for supporting information access. We have implemented a prototypical system with the corresponding functionality in the area of digital music. Advances in Internet search engine technology may not help you blast Klingons into outer space, but they should help you find them more quickly on the Web. The whole arena for Internet searching has become rather interesting. Search engines appear poised to make some serious breakthroughs in relevancy ranging and personalization that promise to increase the accuracy and reliability of search. On the ether hand, data suggests that users are becoming increasingly disenchanted with search engines that don't actually search the Web, but rather search records of the Web sites their robots have visited. Some online merchants (Victoria's Secret, for example) don't even enable keyword searches on their sites. The Web's increasingly dynamic nature complicates searching. New pages created on the fly using personalization information, and even static content, with dynamically inserted sidebars, navigation bars, advertising and commentary, can present a rapidly changing picture for any robot to discover. Nowadays, it is common for organizations to maintain collections of hundreds or even thousands of business processes. Techniques exist to search through such a collection, for business process models that are similar to a given query model. However, those techniques compare the query model to each model in the collection in terms of graph structure, which is inefficient and computationally complex. This paper presents an efficient algorithm for similarity search. The algorithm works by efficiently estimating model similarity, based on small characteristic model fragments, called features. The contribution of this paper is threefold. First, it presents three techniques to improve the efficiency of the currently fastest similarity search algorithm. Second, it presents a software architecture and prototype for a similarity search engine. Third, it presents an advanced evaluation of the algorithm. Experiments show that the algorithm in this paper helps to perform similarity search about 10 times faster than the original algorithm.  相似文献
