The ground mobile forces (GMF) satellite digital multichannel radio, which provided the US Marine Corps with the primary transmission links for its switched backbone during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, is discussed. Reliable and highly mobile, the multichannel terminals provided clear and consistent digital pipelines for the Marine Corps circuit switched network and were rapidly deployed on military HWMMV vehicles. The GMF multichannel radios use the defense satellite communication system (DSCS) II and III super-high-frequency (SHF) wideband satellites as retransmission platforms enabling them to be operated theater-wide with no limit on transmission link distance. The deployment and installation of GMF assets in support of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force during Desert Shield/Desert Storm, including the minimization of outage time due to Sun passage through the radio beam, are described  相似文献

The US Central Command Air Forces' (USCENTAF) communications network for Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm is described. The Central Command Air Forces network utilized 27 SatCom terminals, 27 automatic switches, and 27 terrestrial links and had the responsibility of providing air traffic services across six countries at 24 locations handling 350000 flight operations. The Medical Emergency Radio Communication System (MERCS) for OH-9 illustrates a new system of emergency medical services (EMS) communications planned for the State of West Virginia. MERCS will be the first multicounty system to be implemented in the State-and will serve as a model for other areas. MERCS will provide a centrally coordinated system of EMS communications for the mountainous rural area of Southern West Virginia. It will exploit the rules of the FCC that provide for use of multichannel equipments and a system of full channel (UHF) mobile relay stations. A vehicle fitted for MERCS will be able to communicate on a common basis through any mobile relay in the system. The mobile relays will provide for communication among all participating public safety agencies, utilizing cross banding where appropriate for interface with the systems of cooperating public safety agencies. The result will be a fully integrated system of communications for EMS.  相似文献

The development of a command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence (C4I) architecture for the central command (CENTCOM) theater of operations during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm is described. CENTCOM C4I merged commercial and military communications systems into a fully integrated network. It employed tactical ground mobile forces (GMF) satellite systems, line-of-sight (LOS) radio systems, unit-level circuit switches (ULCS), and the primary interfaces to strategic systems, the TRI-TAC switching centers, automatic circuit (TTC-39A) and automatic message (TYC-39) switchboards. By the end of the ground war, the CENTCOM strategic network considered of over 100 defense satellite communication system (DSCS) satellite links, nine T-1 systems, over 300, DSN trunks, 26 AUTODIN circuits, and numerous dedicated-user, point-to-point, and data circuits  相似文献

The system, which maintained a 98% availability rate, supported 700000 telephone calls and 152000 messages per day. More than 30000 radio frequencies were managed to provide necessary connectivity and to ensure minimum interference. This paper describes a laboratory facility and the multidisciplinary research that has been carried out in it relevant to the application of communications technology in such areas as teleconferencing and education. This facility at Carelton University, Ottawa, Canada, provides multichannel multipoint audio and video communications, and information storage and control facilities to simulate a wide variety of uses. The research program, conducted by communication technologists, systems engineers, and social psychologists, is outlined and the results of a number of teleconferencing and educational experiments are presented. This paper deals with the Maximum Likelihood Estimation of the multichannel impulse response in a mobile communication system whose base stations are equipped with antennas arrays. The following problem is solved: using the training sequence, find the maximum likelihood multichannel impulse response from one mobile to the base station under a reduced rank constraint in the presence of gaussian noise and jammers with unknown covariance matrix. This method finds applications in demodulation (the reduced rank channel estimate can be used in a Viterbi Algorithm), and experimental results using real signals demonstrate its high performance compared with the standard Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE) multichannel estimate.  相似文献

The use of an HF propagation mode, called rear-vertical incidence skywave (NVIS), by the US Marine Corps is discussed. In an NVIS system, HF signals are radiated nearly vertically. The signal returned from the ionosphere covers the skip zone with an omnidirectional pattern providing a communications range from the transmitter site out to a radial distance of 0 to 300 miles. The automotive industry is moving aggressively in the direction of advanced active safety. Dedicated short-range communication (DSRC) is a key enabling technology for the next generation of communication-based safety applications. One aspect of vehicular safety communication is the routine broadcast of messages among all equipped vehicles. Therefore, channel congestion control and broadcast performance improvement are of particular concern and need to be addressed in the overall protocol design. Furthermore, the explicit multichannel nature of DSRC necessitates a concurrent multichannel operational scheme for safety and non-safety applications. Although established some 60 years ago voice communications is still the sole means to separate and guide aircrafts. Voice communication systems are therefore amongst the most critical installations in air traffic control (ATC). Frequentis was the first to introduce PCM (pulse code modulated) based equipment for ATC worldwide and is on the leading edge of steering into the world of packetized voice communications. VoIP is the emerging voice communication technology which has already proven to provide satisfactory service for commercial applications. However, in ATC a number of requirements exceeding commercial applications have to be met. The voice communication system for ATC integrates radio communication as a prime service. Delays generated by the system therefore directly affect the performance on the radio channel and need to be extremly low. Both the radio control (push-to-talk, PTT) and the voice content need to be processed and delivered in a timely manner. SIP (session initiated protocol) based signalling represents a promising approach to tackle the delay problem. In addition, voice communication systems are required to provide high availability figures. VoIP based systems strongly rely on the communications infrastructure as they are distributed by nature. Resilient packet ring structures allow for these high availablity figures for the communications infrastructure.  相似文献

作战距离是对抗态势构建的关键因素,为进一步提高通信部队基地训练的科学性与合理性,运用战术计算的思想,提出了一种基于通信装备干扰压制系数计算通信距离和干扰距离的方法。设计了通信装备干扰压制系数测试方法,以某型微波接力通信系统为例,测试有效干扰时的通信信号和干扰信号功率,计算其干扰压制系数。利用Egli传播模型和视线距离公式,计算微波接力通信系统的通信距离,及干扰机的干扰距离,为通信部队基地训练中的阵地开设和兵力部署提供技术支撑。  相似文献

Traffic characteristics of a mobile radio communication system using a dynamic channel assignment scheme which has all channels available at all base stations are derived. In the system with one channel, the traffic characteristics in each zone are exactly obtained.
