Customers’ purchase behavior may vary over time. Traditional collaborative filtering (CF) methods make recommendations to a target customer based on the purchase behavior of customers whose preferences are similar to those of the target customer; however, the methods do not consider how the customers’ purchase behavior may vary over time. In contrast, the sequential rule-based recommendation method analyzes customers’ purchase behavior over time to extract sequential rules in the form: purchase behavior in previous periods ⇒ purchase behavior in the current period. If a target customer’s purchase behavior history is similar to the conditional part of the rule, then his/her purchase behavior in the current period is deemed to be the consequent part of the rule. Although the sequential rule method considers the sequence of customers’ purchase behavior over time, it does not utilize the target customer’s purchase data for the current period. To resolve the above problems, this work proposes a novel hybrid recommendation method that combines the segmentation-based sequential rule method with the segmentation-based KNN-CF method. The proposed method uses customers’ RFM (Recency, Frequency, and Monetary) values to cluster customers into groups with similar RFM values. For each group of customers, sequential rules are extracted from the purchase sequences of that group to make recommendations. Meanwhile, the segmentation-based KNN-CF method provides recommendations based on the target customer’s purchase data for the current period. Then, the results of the two methods are combined to make final recommendations. Experiment results show that the hybrid method outperforms traditional CF methods.  相似文献

Due to the explosion of e-commerce, recommender systems are rapidly becoming a core tool to accelerate cross-selling and strengthen customer loyalty. There are two prevalent approaches for building recommender systems—content-based recommending and collaborative filtering. So far, collaborative filtering recommender systems have been very successful in both information filtering and e-commerce domains. However, the current research on recommendation has paid little attention to the use of time-related data in the recommendation process. Up to now there has not been any study on collaborative filtering to reflect changes in user interest. This paper suggests a methodology for detecting a user's time-variant pattern in order to improve the performance of collaborative filtering recommendations. The methodology consists of three phases of profiling, detecting changes, and recommendations. The proposed methodology detects changes in customer behavior using the customer data at different periods of time and improves the performance of recommendations using information on changes.  相似文献

A simulated online shopping environment with a recommender system based on collaborative filtering data has been developed to empirically test the impact of recommendation agents in an online retail environment. The report provides some background for the most widely used types of recommender system based on collaborative filtering. The Movie Magic system developed for this study is described, as well as the experiment assessing the impact of such an agent on product promotion effectiveness, customer satisfaction with the website, and customer loyalty to the website. Finally, the report discusses the implications of the results for system developers and managers interested in using Intelligent Agent technology for enhancing e-commerce. By corroborating the proposed relationships between the use of the recommender agent and improved product promotion, customer satisfaction and loyalty, the results should aid online businesses in further understanding the benefits and limitations of using a recommender agent to support e-commerce.  相似文献

Personalization of Supermarket Product Recommendations   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We describe a personalized recommender system designed to suggest new products to supermarket shoppers. The recommender functions in a pervasive computing environment, namely, a remote shopping system in which supermarket customers use Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) to compose and transmit their orders to the store, which assembles them for subsequent pickup. The recommender is meant to provide an alternative source of new ideas for customers who now visit the store less frequently. Recommendations are generated by matching products to customers based on the expected appeal of the product and the previous spending of the customer. Associations mining in the product domain is used to determine relationships among product classes for use in characterizing the appeal of individual products. Clustering in the customer domain is used to identify groups of shoppers with similar spending histories. Cluster-specific lists of popular products are then used as input to the matching process. The recommender is currently being used in a pilot program with several hundred customers. Analysis of results to date have shown a 1.8% boost in program revenue as a result of purchases made directly from the list of recommended products. A substantial fraction of the accepted recommendations are from product classes new to the customer, indicating a degree of willingness to expand beyond present purchase patterns in response to reasonable suggestions.  相似文献

Recommender systems provide personalized recommendations on products or services to customers. Collaborative filtering is a widely used method of providing recommendations using explicit ratings on items from users. In some e-commerce environments, however, it is difficult to collect explicit feedback data; only implicit feedback is available.

In this paper, we present a method of building an effective collaborative filtering-based recommender system for an e-commerce environment without explicit feedback data. Our method constructs pseudo rating data from the implicit feedback data. When building the pseudo rating matrix, we incorporate temporal information such as the user’s purchase time and the item’s launch time in order to increase recommendation accuracy.

Based on this method, we built both user-based and item-based collaborative filtering-based recommender systems for character images (wallpaper) in a mobile e-commerce environment and conducted a variety of experiments. Empirical results show our time-incorporated recommender system is significantly more accurate than a pure collaborative filtering system.  相似文献

In this article, a novel CF (collaborative filtering)-based recommender system is developed for e-commerce sites. Unlike the conventional approach in which only binary purchase data are used, the proposed approach analyzes the data captured from the navigational and behavioral patterns of customers, estimates the preference levels of a customer for the products which are clicked but not purchased, and CF is conducted using the preference levels for making recommendations. This also compares with the existing works on clickstream data analysis in which the navigational and behavioral patterns of customers are analyzed for simple relationships with the target variable. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is assessed using an experimental e-commerce site. It is found among other things that the proposed approach outperforms the conventional approach in almost all cases considered. The proposed approach is versatile and can be applied to a variety of e-commerce sites as long as the navigational and behavioral patterns of customers can be captured.  相似文献

The prosperity of electronic commerce has changed the traditional trading behaviors and more and more people are willing to conduct Internet shopping. However, the exponentially increasing information provided by the Internet enterprises causes the problem of overloaded information, and this inevitably reduces the customer's satisfaction and loyalty. One way to overcome such a problem is to build personalized recommender systems to retrieve product information that really interests the customers. For products that people may purchase relatively often, such as books and CDs, recommender systems can be built to reason about a customer's personal preferences from his purchasing history and then provide the most appropriate information services to meet his needs. On the other hand, for those commodities a general customer does not buy frequently, for example computers and home theater systems, more appropriate are the kinds of recommender systems able to retrieve optimal products based on the customer's current preferences obtained from the iterative system–customer interactions. This paper presents the above two kinds of recommender systems we have developed for supporting Internet commerce. Experimental results show the promise of our systems.  相似文献

Commercial recommender systems use various data mining techniques to make appropriate recommendations to users during online, real-time sessions. Published algorithms focus more on the discrete user ratings instead of binary results, which hampers their predictive capabilities when usage data is sparse. The system proposed in this paper, e-VZpro, is an association mining-based recommender tool designed to overcome these problems through a two-phase approach. In the first phase, batches of customer historical data are analyzed through association mining in order to determine the association rules for the second phase. During the second phase, a scoring algorithm is used to rank the recommendations online for the customer. The second phase differs from the traditional approach and an empirical comparison between the methods used in e-VZpro and other collaborative filtering methods including dependency networks, item-based, and association mining is provided in this paper. This comparison evaluates the algorithms used in each of the above methods using two internal customer datasets and a benchmark dataset. The results of this comparison clearly show that e-VZpro performs well compared to dependency networks and association mining. In general, item-based algorithms with cosine similarity measures have the best performance.  相似文献

The preferences of customers change over time. However, existing collaborative filtering (CF) systems are static, since they only incorporate information regarding whether a customer buys a product during a certain period and do not make use of the purchase sequences of customers. Therefore, the quality of the recommendations of the typical CF could be improved through the use of information on such sequences. In this study, we propose a new methodology for enhancing the quality of CF recommendation that uses customer purchase sequences. The proposed methodology is applied to a large department store in Korea and compared to existing CF techniques. Various experiments using real-world data demonstrate that the proposed methodology provides higher quality recommendations than do typical CF techniques, with better performance, especially with regard to heavy users.

Recommender systems appear among other reasons with the purpose to improve web information overload and ease information recovery. This kind of systems aid users to find contents in a non-difficult way and with minimal effort. Even though, a great number of these systems performance requires contents to be explicitly rated in order to determine user’s interest. When interacting with electronic books this performance may alter users reading and understanding patterns as they are asked to stop reading and rate the content. Therefore, the analysis of user behavior, preferences and reading background can be considered suitable for a recommender system to build collective web knowledge in a collaborative learning context. This way, recommender system can assist users in finding contents of their interest without explicit rating based on previous constructed knowledge. The goal of this research is to propose an architecture to build a content recommendation platform based on eBook reading user behavior, allowing users to learn about the digital content collaboratively. This platform is formed by web readers’ community that aids members in finding contents of their interest in an automatic way and with minimal effort.  相似文献

In recent years, firms have focused on how to enter markets and meet customer requirements by improving product attributes and processes to boost their market share and profits. Consequently, market-driven product design and development has become a popular topic in the literature. However, past research neither covers all of the major influencing factors that together drive customers to make purchase decisions, nor connects these various influencing factors to customer purchasing behavior. Past studies further fail to take the time value of money and customer value into consideration. This study proposes a decision support system to (a) predict customer purchasing behavior given certain product, customer, and marketing influencing factors, and (b) estimate the net customer lifetime value from customer purchasing behavior toward a specific product. This will not only enable decision-makers to compare alternatives and select competitive products to launch on the market, but will also improve the understanding of customer behavior toward particular products for the formulation of effective marketing strategies that increase customer loyalty and generate greater profits in the long term. Decision-makers can also make use of the system to build up confidence in new product development in terms of idea generation and product improvement. The application of the proposed system is illustrated and confirmed to be sensible and convincing through a case study.  相似文献

E-commerce systems employ recommender systems to enhance the customer loyalty and hence increasing the cross-selling of products. However, choosing appropriate similarity measure is a key to the recommender system success. Based on this measure, a set of neighbors for the current active user is formed which in turn will be used later to recommend unseen items to this active user. Pearson correlation coefficient, the most popular similarity measure for memory-based collaborative recommender system (CRS), measures how much two users are correlated. However, statistic’s literature introduced many other coefficients for matching two sets (vectors) that may perform better than Pearson correlation coefficient. This paper explores Jaccard and Dice coefficients for matching users of CRS. A more general coefficient called a Power coefficient is proposed in this paper which represents a family of coefficients. Specifically, Power coefficient gives many degrees for emphasizing on the positive matches between users. However, CRS users have positive and negative matches and therefore these coefficients have to be modified to take negative matches into consideration. Consequently, they become more suitable for CRS research. Many experiments are carried out for all the proposed variants and are compared with the traditional approaches. The experimental results show that the proposed variants outperform Pearson correlation coefficient and cosine similarity measure as they are the most common approaches for memory-based CRS.  相似文献

User ratings are the essence of recommender systems in e-commerce. Lack of motivation to provide ratings and eligibility to rate generally only after purchase restrain the effectiveness of such systems and contribute to the well-known data sparsity and cold start problems. This article proposes a new information source for recommender systems, called prior ratings. Prior ratings are based on users’ experiences of virtual products in a mediated environment, and they can be submitted prior to purchase. A conceptual model of prior ratings is proposed, integrating the environmental factor presence whose effects on product evaluation have not been studied previously. A user study conducted in website and virtual store modalities demonstrates the validity of the conceptual model, in that users are more willing and confident to provide prior ratings in virtual environments. A method is proposed to show how to leverage prior ratings in collaborative filtering. Experimental results indicate the effectiveness of prior ratings in improving predictive performance.  相似文献

A major concern for modern enterprises is to promote customer value, loyalty and contribution through services such as can help establish a long-term, honest relationship with customers. For purposes of better customer relationship management, data mining technology is commonly used to analyze large quantities of data about customer bargains, purchase preferences, customer churn, etc. This paper aims to propose a recommender system for wireless network companies to understand and avoid customer churn. To ensure the accuracy of the analysis, we use the decision tree algorithm to analyze data of over 60,000 transactions and of more than 4000 members, over a period of three months. The data of the first nine weeks is used as the training data, and that of the last month as the testing data. The results of the experiment are found to be very useful for making strategy recommendations to avoid customer churn.  相似文献

Despite its success, similarity-based collaborative filtering suffers from some limitations, such as scalability, sparsity and recommendation attack. Prior work has shown incorporating trust mechanism into traditional collaborative filtering recommender systems can improve these limitations. We argue that trust-based recommender systems are facing novel recommendation attack which is different from the profile injection attacks in traditional recommender system. To the best of our knowledge, there has not any prior study on recommendation attack in a trust-based recommender system. We analyze the attack problem, and find that “victim” nodes play a significant role in the attack. Furthermore, we propose a data provenance method to trace malicious users and identify the “victim” nodes as distrust users of recommender system. Feasibility study of the defend method is done with the dataset crawled from Epinions website.  相似文献

In response to the thriving development in electronic commerce (EC), many on-line retailers have developed Web-based information systems to handle enormous amounts of transactions on the Internet. These systems can automatically capture data on the browsing histories and purchasing records of individual customers. This capability has motivated the development of data-mining applications. Sequential pattern mining (SPM) is a useful data-mining method to discover customers’ purchasing patterns over time. We incorporate the recency, frequency, and monetary (RFM) concept presented in the marketing literature to define the RFM sequential pattern and develop a novel algorithm for generating all RFM sequential patterns from customers’ purchasing data. Using the algorithm, we propose a pattern segmentation framework to generate valuable information on customer purchasing behavior for managerial decision-making. Extensive experiments are carried out, using synthetic datasets and a transactional dataset collected by a retail chain in Taiwan, to evaluate the proposed algorithm and empirically demonstrate the benefits of using RFM sequential patterns in analyzing customers’ purchasing data.  相似文献

Nowadays, commercial transactions and customer reviews are part of human life and various business applications. The technologies create a great impact on online user reviews and activities, affecting the business process. Customer reviews and ratings are more helpful to the new customer to purchase the product, but the fake reviews completely affect the business. The traditional systems consume maximum time and create complexity while analyzing a large volume of customer information. Therefore, in this work optimized recommendation system is developed for analyzing customer reviews with minimum complexity. Here, Amazon Product Kaggle dataset information is utilized for investigating the customer review. The collected information is analyzed and processed by batch normalized capsule networks (NCN). The network explores the user reviews according to product details, time, price purchasing factors, etc., ensuring product quality and ratings. Then effective recommendation system is developed using a butterfly optimized matrix factorization filtering approach. Then the system’s efficiency is evaluated using the Rand Index, Dunn index, accuracy, and error rate.  相似文献

Recommender systems are contributing a significant aspect in information filtering and knowledge management systems. They provide explicit and reliable recommendations to the users so that user can get information about all products in e-commerce domain. In the era of big data and large complex information delivery system, it is impossible to get the right information in the online environment. In this research work, we offered a novel movie-based collaborative recommender system which utilizes the bio-inspired gray wolf optimizer algorithm and fuzzy c-mean (FCM) clustering technique and predicts rating of a movie for a particular user based on his historical data and similarity of users. Gray wolf optimizer algorithm was applied on the Movielens dataset to obtain the initial clusters, and also the initial positions of clusters are obtained. FCM is used to classify the users in the dataset by similarity of user ratings. Our proposed collaborative recommender system performed extremely well with respect to accuracy and precision. We analyzed our proposed recommender system over Movielens dataset which is available publically. Various evaluation metrics were utilized such as mean absolute error, standard deviation, precision and recall. We also compared the performance of projected system with already established systems. The experiment results delivered by proposed recommender system demonstrated that efficiency and performance are enhanced and also offered better recommendations when compared with our previous work [1].
