In this paper, diamond like carbon (DLC) films were coated on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film substrate as a function of biasing voltage using plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition. The surface morphology of the DLC films was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. The chemical state and structure of the films were analyzed by X-ray photoelectrons spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy. The micro hardness of the DLC films was also studied. The surface energy of interfacial tension between the DLC and blood protein was investigated using contact angle measurements. In addition, the blood compatibility of the films was examined by in vitro tests. For a higher fraction of sp3 content, maximum hardness and surface smoothness of the DLC films were obtained at an optimized biasing potential of ? 300 V. The in vitro results showed that the blood compatibility of the DLC coated PET film surfaces got enhanced significantly.  相似文献

Diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings were successfully deposited on carbon nanotube (CNT) films with CNT densities of 1 × 109/cm2, 3 × 109/cm2, and 7 × 109/cm2 by a radio frequency plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (CVD). The new composite films consisting of CNT/DLC were synthesized to improve the mechanical properties of DLC coatings especially for toughness. To compare those of the CNT/DLC composite films, the deposition of a DLC coating on a silicon oxide substrate was also carried out. A dynamic ultra micro hardness tester and a ball-on-disk type friction tester were used to investigate the mechanical properties of the CNT/DLC composite films. A scanning electron microscopic (SEM) image of the indentation region of the CNT/DLC composite film showed a triangle shape of the indenter, however, chippings of the DLC coating were observed in the indentation region. This result suggests the improvement of the toughness of the CNT/DLC composite films. The elastic modulus and dynamic hardness of the CNT/DLC composite films decreased linearly with the increase of their CNT density. Friction coefficients of all the CNT/DLC composite films were close to that of the DLC coating.  相似文献

A superhard hydrogen-free amorphous diamond-like carbon (DLC) film was deposited by pulsed arc discharge using a carbon source accelerator in a vacuum of 2×10−4 Pa. The growth rate was about 15 nm/min and the optimum ion-plasma energy was about 70 eV. The impact of doping elements (Cu, Zr, Ti, Al, F(Cl), N) on the characteristics of DLC films deposited on metal and silicon substrates was studied aiming at the choice of the optimum coating for low friction couples. The microhardness of thick (≥20 μm) DLC films was studied by Knoop and Vickers indentations, medium thick DLC films (1–3 μm) were investigated using a ‘Fischerscope’, and Young's module of thin films (20–70 nm) was studied by laser induced surface acoustic waves. The bonds in DLC films were investigated by electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS), X-ray excited Auger electron spectroscopy (XAES), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The adhesion of DLC films was defined by the scratch test and Rockwell indentation. The coefficient of friction of the Patinor DLC film was measured by a rubbing cylinders test and by a pin-on-disk test in laboratory air at about 20% humidity and room temperature. The microhardness of the Patinor DLC film was up to 100 GPa and the density of the film was 3.43–3.65 g/cm3. The specific wear rate of the Patinor DLC film is comparable to that of other carbon films.  相似文献

The non-thrombogenicity of oxygen-plasma-treated DLC films was investigated as surface coatings for medical devices. DLC films were deposited on polycarbonate substrates by a radio frequency plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition method using acetylene gas. The deposited DLC films were then treated with plasma of oxygen gas at powers of 15 W, 50 W, and 200 W. Wettability was evaluated by water contact angle measurements and the changes in surface chemistry and roughness were examined by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and atomic force microscope analysis, respectively. Each oxygen-plasma-treated DLC film exhibited a hydrophilic nature with water contact angles of 11.1°, 17.7° and 36.8°. The non-thrombogenicity of the samples was evaluated through the incubation with platelet-rich plasma isolated from human whole blood. Non-thrombogenic properties dramatically improved for both 15 W- and 50 W-oxygen-plasma-treated DLC films. These results demonstrate that the oxygen plasma treatment at lower powers promotes the non-thrombogenicity of DLC films with highly hydrophilic surfaces.  相似文献

A technique to coat hydrogen-free diamond-like carbon (DLC) films on polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) substrates has been developed by sputtering of a negatively biased graphite target in a mixture of argon and nitrogen plasma. The coated films were characterized by various methods to investigate their chemical, electronic features, and particularly their biomedical properties. DLC films produced by this method have up to 20% sp3 carbon bonds depending on the nitrogen concentration in the plasma. Raman spectroscopy revealed that, bond-disorder increases with nitrogen doping. The average grain size of DLC decreases in the nitrogen doped samples by almost 30%. The roughness of the uncoated PTFE substrate surfaces decreased dramatically from 660 nm to 170 nm after DLC coating. However, the nitrogen contents in the plasma have little effects on the roughness, the cluster size, and shapes. Electronic band gap of the samples decreases with adding nitrogen from ~ 2 eV in nitrogen-free samples to ~ 1 eV in nitrogenated samples. Lower adhesion and aggregation of platelets on PTFE surfaces coated with DLC-10% nitrogen and DLC-20% nitrogen have been observed while there is greater adhesion of platelets on DLC-30% nitrogen and DLC-40% nitrogen.  相似文献

In this work, tetrahedral diamond-like carbon (DLC) films are deposited on Si, Ti/Si and Au/Si substrates by a new plasma deposition technique — filtered arc deposition (FAD). Their electron field emission characteristics and fluorescent displays of the films are tested using a diode structure. It is shown that the substrate can markedly influence the emission behavior of DLC films. An emission current of 0.1 μA is detected at electric field EDLC/Si=5.6 V/μm, EDLC/Au/Si=14.3 V/μm, and EDLC/Ti/Si=5.2 V/μm, respectively. At 14.3 V/μm, an emission current density JDLC/Si=15.2 μA/cm2, JDLC/Au/Si=0.4 μA/cm2, and JDLC/Ti/Si=175 μA/cm2 is achieved, respectively. It is believed that a thin TiC transition layer exists in the interface between the DLC film and Ti/Si substrate.  相似文献

This paper describes the enhanced mechanical performance that can be achieved by the application of diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings to polymer substrates. The polymers coated are silicone and polyethylene, and the effect on the friction coefficient is studied. Film adhesion is found to depend on the DLC film refractive index (n), whereas the friction is largely independent of n in the range studied. Films were deposited from a He/C2H2 mixture at 20 Pa (0.15 Torr) on to the polymer substrates placed on a 10-cm-diameter electrode driven at 13.56 MHz. Film growth was monitored by in-situ ellipsometry (at 675 nm), which was performed on a glass slide placed near the polymer substrate. Friction measurements were obtained using a pin-on-disk tribometer, and measurements were carried out using a stainless-steel pin at a linear speed of 6 cm s−1. Film adhesion was evaluated using a pull-adhesion tester. It was found that DLC coatings adhere well to the polymer substrates and can significantly reduce the friction coefficient of polymers such as silicone. Higher refractive index films (which are harder and have a higher mechanical strength) were found to have a poorer adhesion and provide a slightly increased friction on the polymer surface when compared to lower-index films. This study indicates that DLC may be used to enhance the tribological properties of polymers with potential applications in the biomaterials and light-engineering industries.  相似文献

High strength steel (HSS) is widely used for automobile reinforcement parts and the quantity required is rapidly grown. However, the strength and hardness of the steel are relatively high, its formability is very low and adhesion to tool material can be easily found under forming operation. This paper aimed to evaluate the anti-adhesion performance of commercial nitride and DLC films coated on cold work tool steel against HSS in forming operation. The friction coefficient and wear rate of the non-coated ball (SKD11; hardness 60 ± 2 HRC), balls coated with TiN-PVD, TiCN-PVD, AlTiN-PVD, Nitride + CrN and DLC have been evaluated in sliding contact against SPFH 590 (JIS) disk. The scratch and nano-indentation tests were done on each type of coated tools to characterize the adhesive strength between the film and the substrate, and the hardness and the elastic modulus, respectively. The anti-adhesion performance of various films coated tool in metal stamping process was also investigated by performing U-bending experiment. The cold roll carbon steel; SPCC (JIS) was also used to compare a material transfer problem to the case of using HSS (JIS: SPFH590). As the results, for HSS sheet, the adhesion of workpiece material on a non-coated die surface was detected after 49 strokes whereas adhesion could not be found in case of stamping SPCC sheet up to 500 strokes. The TiCN, AlTiN, and Nitride + CrN films showed good anti-adhesion performance when forming HSS, while the TiN and DLC films did not provide the satisfied results.  相似文献

DLC films were deposited by a new pulsed DC discharge plasma chemical vapour deposition (CVD) using hydrogen and methane gas mixture. When methane concentration (Cm) i.e. CH4/(H2 + CH4) was increased from 3 to 40%, the graphitization of the carbon film increases as evident from Raman study. When Cm was increased to 30%, DLC film shows photoconducting property. The white light photoconductivity (S = Il/Id, where Il is light current and Id is dark current) measured with solar simulator under AM 1.5 condition was approximately 20 at room temperature. The photoconductivity was not clear when Cm was lower than 20%. ESR measurements also show that the electron spin density was slightly decreased with decreasing concentration of methane. Thus we can conclude here that at higher concentrations of methane at 30%, Sp2 content of the film increases and the DLC film becomes photoconducting.  相似文献

Silicon-oxide incorporated amorphous hydrogenated diamond-like carbon films (SiOx–DLC, 1  x  1.5) containing up to 24 at.% of Si (H is excluded from the atomic percentage calculations reported here) were prepared using pulsed direct current plasma-enhanced chemical vapour deposition (DC-PECVD). Molecular structure, optical properties and mechanical properties of these films were assessed as a function of Si concentration. The spectroscopic results indicated two structural regimes. First, for Si contents up to ~ 13 at.%, SiOx–DLC is formed as a single phase with siloxane, O–Si–C2, bonding networks. Second, for films with Si concentrations greater than 13 at.%, SiOx–DLC with siloxane bonding and SiOx deposit simultaneously as segregated phases. The variations in mechanical properties and optical properties as a function of Si content are consistent with the above changes in the film composition.  相似文献

Thin films of a novel, nanocomposite material consisting of diamond-like carbon and polycrystalline/amorphous TiOx (DLC-TiOx, x  2) were prepared using pulsed direct-current plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition (PECVD). Results from Raman spectroscopy indicate that the DLC and TiOx deposit primarily as segregated phases. Amorphous TiO2 is found to be present on the surface region of the film and there is evidence for the presence of crystalline TiO in the bulk of the film. The hydrophilicity of the DLC-TiOx films increased with increasing titanium content. Culture studies with human osteoblasts revealed that the differences in three-day cell adhesion properties (count, morphology and area) between DLC and DLC-TiOx films containing up to 13 at.% Ti were not statistically significant. However, the cell count was significantly greater for the films containing 3 at.% of Ti in comparison to those containing 13 at.% of Ti. A post-plasma treatment with Ar/O2 was used to reduce the water contact angle, θ, by nearly 40° on the DLC-TiOx films containing 3 at.% of Ti. A cell culture study found that the osteoblast count and morphology after three days on these more hydrophilic films did not differ significantly from those of the original DLC-TiOx films. We compare these results with those for SiOx-incorporated DLC films and evaluate the long-term osteoblast-like cell viability and proliferation on modified DLC surfaces with water contact angles ranging from 22° to 95°.  相似文献

TiO2 nanoparticles and their application in packaging systems have attracted a lot of attention because of its antimicrobial activity. In this work, effect of TiO2 nanoparticles on the antibacterial and physical properties of polyethylene (PE)-based film was investigated. Results indicated that the antibacterial activity of TiO2-incorporated PE films should be due to the killing effect property of TiO2 nanoparticles against microorganisms. The TiO2-incorporated PE film exhibited more effective antibacterial activity for Staphylococcus aureus. The antibacterial activity to inactivate Escherichia coli or S. aureus was improved by UV irradiation. The inhibition ratio of TiO2-incorporated PE films sample irradiated for 60 min by UV light was improved significantly, which were 89.3% for E. coli and 95.2% for S. aureus, respectively, compared to that of TiO2-PE film without UV irradiation. The analysis of physical properties revealed that TiO2 nanoparticles increased the tensile strength and elongation at break of PE-based film. The climate resistance of nano-TiO2 films is greatly enhanced, compared to that of the blank PE film. Water vapor transmission increased from 18.1 to 24.6 g/m2·24 h with the incorporation of TiO2 nanoparticles. Results revealed that PE based film incorporating with TiO2 nanoparticles have a good potential to be used as active food packaging system.  相似文献

The hydrogen-free diamond-like carbon (DLC) films are potential materials to be used as infrared anti-reflection protective coatings if their optical absorption can be reduced to get relatively thick films needed. In this study, hydrogen-free DLC films were deposited by the physical vapor deposition (PVD) method in an unbalanced magnetron sputtering (UBMS) system with a rectangle graphite target of 440 × 80 mm in the argon atmosphere. The UBMS system was described in detail and the magnetron field distribution of the target was denoted in this work. The film thickness uniformity was investigated and the results showed that this system is capable of depositing uniform films larger than 150 mm in diameter. The infrared transmission spectra of DLC films were analyzed by a FTIR spectrometer, the results indicating that transparent films were obtained in the infrared region for the single side DLC coated on the silicon and germanium substrates, and about 68.83% and 63.05% transmittance were achieved respectively at the wave number of 2983 /cm, close to theoretical value for non-absorption carbon material. No obvious absorption peaks were found between 5000 and 800 /cm. The refractive index and extinction coefficient of the DLC films deposited under optimized conditions were about 2.08 and 0.067 respectively at the wavelength of 1600 nm. These important optical characteristics showed that the hydrogen-free DLC films prepared in the UBMS system were suitable for infrared transmission enhancement applications.  相似文献

Simultaneous UV-laser irradiation during the deposition of DLC films has been found to significantly influence the growth process and to favourably modify the film properties. The influence of the spectral and energetic parameters of laser radiation was investigated with respect to the optical, structural and mechanical properties of DLC films. Detailed investigations on the mechanism of laser-induced structural transformations in DLC films are presented, as studied by Raman spectroscopy. Further, the characteristic peak for the nanocrystalline diamond phase at 1140 cm−1 was evident for irradiated films. Noteworthy is the increase in film microhardness with increasing energy of the deposited carbon ions with a simultaneous reduction in internal stresses, caused by photolytically induced modification of the film structure by UV-laser radiation. As a result, hard (up to 30 GPa) and thick (up to 3 μm) defect-free DLC films without cracks have been synthesized.  相似文献

Aluminum alloy 7075 is widely used for producing micro-scale heat sinks, micro-fluidic devices, micro-propellers and so on. This paper deals with optimizing microstructure and thickness of diamond coatings on microdrills used in 7075 aluminum alloy machining. Firstly, the friction tests between microcrystalline diamond (MCD), nanocrystalline diamond (NCD) films and aluminum alloy reveal that the stable coefficient of friction (COF) of MCD–aluminum alloy working pair is 0.240, much higher than that of NCD–aluminum alloy working pair (0.072). The decrease of COF is mainly attributed to the lower roughness of NCD films and the presence of more graphite or the non-diamond phases in NCD coatings. Afterwards, comparative cutting tests involving MCD, NCD, diamond-like coating (DLC) and TiAlN coated microdrills show that after drilling 200 holes, NCD coated microdrills exhibit the best cutting performance. Furthermore, NCD coated microdrills with coating thicknesses of 1 μm, 2 μm, 4.5 μm and 7 μm are fabricated and their cutting performance is studied in aluminum alloy machining. The cutting experiments show that the NCD coated microdrill with coating thickness of 4.5 μm shows the best cutting performance, exhibiting not only lowest flank wear and no tool tipping or chipping on the main cutting edges but also the highest quality of drilled holes because of the outstanding adhesive strength and wear resistance of the NCD coating.  相似文献

Pulsed laser ablation of a graphite target was carried out by ArF excimer laser deposition at a laser wavelength of 193 nm and fluences of 10 and 20 J/cm2 to produce diamond-like carbon (DLC) films. DLC films were deposited on silicon and quartz substrates under 1 × 10? 6 Torr pressure at different temperatures from room temperature to 250 °C. The effect of temperature on the electrical and optical properties of the DLC films was studied. Laser Raman Spectroscopy (LRS) showed that the DLC band showed a slight increase to higher frequency with increasing film deposition temperature. Spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE) and ultraviolet–visible absorption spectroscopy showed that the optical band gap of the DLC films was 0.8–2 eV and decreased with increasing substrate temperature. These results were consistent with the electrical resistivity results, which gave values for the films in the range 1.0 × 104–2.8 × 105 Ω cm and which also decreased with deposition temperature. We conclude that at higher substrate deposition temperatures, DLC films show increasing graphitic characteristics yielding lower electrical resistivity and a smaller optical band gap.  相似文献

Electrochemically active diamond-like carbon (DLC) electrodes featuring high specific surface area have been prepared by plasma-enhanced chemical vapour deposition (CVD) onto densely packed forests of vertically aligned multiwall carbon nanotubes (VACNTs). The DLC:VACNT composite film exhibits a complex topography with web like features and ridges generated by partial coalescence of the DLC over the CNT arrays. DLC:VACNT electrodes exhibit low background responses over a large potential window, low uncompensated resistance, as well as low charge-transfer impedance in the presence of ferrocyanide as a redox probe. The interfacial capacitance associated with the DLC:VACNT electrode is in the range of 0.6 mF cm−2, a value two orders of magnitude larger than in conventional flat carbon electrodes. DLC films grown onto single-crystal Si(1 0 0) under identical conditions resulted in essentially insulating layers. Conducting-atomic force microscopy studies reveal that the film electro-activity does not arise from specific topographic features in the highly corrugated film. The ensemble of experimental results suggests that the enhanced electrochemical responses are not connected to areas in which the CNT support is exposed to the electrolyte solution. This is remarkable behaviour considering that no dopants have been included during the DLC film growth.  相似文献

In this study, Sr and Ca doped LaMnO3 thin ceramic films were coated on Al2O3 substrates by using a sol–gel route as the cathode material for SOFC. Nitrate precursors were used for the preparation of the thin film coating solution, and methanol and acetyl acetone were also used as the solvent and chelating agent, respectively. After the solution was prepared, an Al2O3 single crystal substrate was dipped into the solution. Then it was fired at 500 °C and annealed at 1025 °C for the crystallization. Coated films were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), focused ion beam (FIB) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Conductivity of the coated films was measured by the four probe Van der Pauw method. XRD, SEM, AFM and FIB characterizations of the coated film showed that the LaMnO3 phase was formed, surface of the films was uniform and had homogenously distributed pores sized about 10 nm, mean grain size was about 60–80 nm and the film thickness was about 180 nm. The specific resistivity of the film was calculated to be 0.524 Ω m.  相似文献

Diamond like carbon (DLC) thin films were deposited on p-type silicon (p-Si), quartz and ITO substrates by microwave (MW) surface-wave plasma (SWP) chemical vapor deposition (CVD) at different substrate temperatures (RT ∼ 300 °C). Argon (Ar: 200 sccm) was used as carrier gas while acetylene (C2H2: 20 sccm) and nitrogen (N: 5 sccm) were used as plasma source. Analytical methods such as X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), FT-IR and UV–visible spectroscopy were employed to investigate the structural and optical properties of the DLC thin films respectively. FT-IR spectra show the structural modification of the DLC thin films with substrate temperatures showing the distinct peak around 3350 cm 1 wave number; which may corresponds to the sp2 C–H bond. Tauc optical gap and film thickness both decreased with increasing substrate temperature. The peaks of XPS core level C 1 s spectra of the DLC thin films shifted towards lower binding energy with substrate temperature. We also got the small photoconductivity action of the film deposited at 300 °C on ITO substrate.  相似文献

Hydrogen-free diamond-like carbon (DLC) films were deposited by a new surface-wave-sustained plasma physical vapor deposition (SWP-PVD) system in various conditions. Electron density was measured by a Langmuir probe; the film thickness and hardness were characterized using a surface profilometer and a nanoindenter, respectively. Surface morphology was investigated using an atomic force microscope (AFM). It is found that the electron density and deposition rate increase following the increase in microwave power, target voltage, or gas pressure. The typical electron density and deposition rate are about 1.87 × 1011–2.04 × 1012 cm 3 and 1.61–14.32 nm/min respectively. AFM images indicate that the grain sizes of the films change as the experimental parameters vary. The optical constants, refractive index n and extinction coefficient k, were obtained using an optical ellipsometry. With the increase in microwave power from 150 to 270 W, the extinction coefficient of DLC films increases from 0.05 to 0.27 while the refractive index decreases from 2.31 to 2.11.  相似文献
