In this study, magnetic graphene oxide (MGO) was used as an adsorbent for an effective removal of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution. Graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets were synthesized using improved hummer method and magnetized electrochemically using iron electrodes by applying different currents (0.2 to 0.5 A) for different duration. The synthesized MGO was characterized using FTIR, XRD, FESEM, EDS, and BET analysis. It was confirmed that Fe3O4 nanoparticles were successfully incorporated into the structure of GO. MGO was evaluated for the adsorption of MB from simulated colored wastewater by studying the effect of electrochemical synthesis conditions (time and current), adsorbent dosage, pH of the solution, initial MB concentration and the presence of salt in wastewater. The results indicated that 0.16 g/L of MGO synthesized by applying 0.4 A for 10 min can remove 93% of MB (10 mg/L) from alkali solution through monolayer adsorption following Langmuir isotherm with the maximum adsorption capacity of 78.13 mg/g. This study introduces MGO as a recyclable and reusable adsorbent with the removal efficiency above 90% that can be potentially used in wastewater treatment.  相似文献

NaP1 zeolite, using red mud (RM) as raw material, was successfully prepared via alkali fusion and hydrothermal method. NaP1 zeolite, which was a mesoporous material, had specific surface area and pore diameter of 79.3 m2·g−1 and 7.26 nm, respectively. NaP1 zeolite had excellent adsorption properties. Under the optimum adsorption conditions, methylene blue (MB) was adsorbed through NaP1 zeolite, the adsorption capacity was 48.7 mg·g−1 and the removal efficiency was 97.1%. The adsorbent was regenerated with sodium chloride as eluent. The adsorption capacity of the adsorbent regenerated three times still was satisfactory 34.53 mg·g−1, which showed the excellent stability performance from NaP1 zeolite. The adsorption conformed to the pseudo second order kinetic and Freundlich isotherm model. Moreover, MB molecules were adsorbed by diffusion on the outer surface, diffusion on the inner surface, and adsorption on the inner surface of NaP1 zeolite. And, during the external diffusion, electrostatic attraction and hydrogen bonding created. Al and Si were extracted from RM to prepare NaP1 zeolite with excellent adsorption properties. This result provides an important example for the development of the potential value of RM.  相似文献

The Brazilian pine-fruit shell (Araucaria angustifolia) is a food residue, which was used in natural and carbonized forms, as low-cost adsorbents for the removal of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solutions. Chemical treatment of Brazilian pine-fruit shell (PW), with sulfuric acid produced a non-activated carbonaceous material (C-PW). Both PW and C-PW were tested as low-cost adsorbents for the removal of MB from aqueous effluents. It was observed that C-PW leaded to a remarkable increase in the specific surface area, average porous volume, and average porous diameter of the adsorbent when compared to PW. The effects of shaking time, adsorbent dosage and pH on adsorption capacity were studied. In basic pH region (pH 8.5) the adsorption of MB was favorable. The contact time required to obtain the equilibrium was 6 and 4h at 25 degrees C, using PW and C-PW as adsorbents, respectively. Based on error function values (F(error)) the kinetic data were better fitted to fractionary-order kinetic model when compared to pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order, and chemisorption kinetic models. The equilibrium data were fitted to Langmuir, Freundlich, Sips and Redlich-Peterson isotherm models. For MB dye the equilibrium data were better fitted to the Sips isotherm model using PW and C-PW as adsorbents.  相似文献

The yellow passion fruit (Passiflora edulis Sims. f. flavicarpa Degener) (YPFW) a powdered solid waste, was tested as biosorbent for the removal of a cationic dye, methylene blue (MB), from aqueous solutions. Adsorption of MB onto this low-cost natural adsorbent was studied by batch adsorption at 25 °C. The effects of shaking time, biosorbent dosage and pH on adsorption capacity were studied. In alkaline pH region the adsorption of MB was favorable. The contact time required to obtain the maximum adsorption was 48 h at 25 °C. Four kinetic models were tested, being the adsorption kinetics better fitted to pseudo-first order and ion exchange kinetic models. The ion exchange and pseudo-first order constant rates were 0.05594 and 0.05455 h−1, respectively. The equilibrium data were fitted to Langmuir, Freundlich, Sips and Redlich–Peterson isotherm models. Taking into account the analysis of the normal distribution of the residuals (difference of qmeasured − qmodel), the data were best fitted to Sips isotherm model. The maximum amount of MB adsorbed on YPFW biosorbent was 44.70 mg g−1.  相似文献

This study aimed at investigating the feasibility of using jackfruit peel (JFP), a solid waste, abundantly available in Malaysia, for the adsorption of methylene blue, a cationic dye. Batch adsorption studies were conducted to evaluate the effects of contact time, initial concentration (35-400mg/L), pH (2-11), and adsorbent dose (0.05-1.20g) on the removal of dye at temperature of 30 degrees C. The experimental data were analyzed by the four different types of linearized Langmuir isotherm, the Freundlich isotherm and the Temkin isotherm. The experimental data fitted well with the type 2 Langmuir model with a maximum adsorption capacity of 285.713mg/g. Pseudo-first and pseudo-second-order kinetics models were tested with the experimental data, and pseudo-second-order kinetics was the best for the adsorption of MB by JFP with coefficients of correlation R(2)> or =0.9967 for all initial MB concentrations studied. The results demonstrated that the JFP is very effective for the adsorption of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

The ability of an unconventional bio-adsorbent, pineapple leaf powder (PLP) for the adsorption of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution was studied. It was observed that intra-particle diffusion was involved in the adsorption process and that the kinetic data fitted well with a pseudo-second-order equation. Fitting parameters revealed that the rate of adsorption increased with decrease in dye concentration and decrease in ionic strength while the mixing speed did not have a significant effect on adsorption. The adsorption was favorable at higher pH and lower temperature, and the equilibrium data were well fitted by the Langmuir isotherm. The maximum adsorption capacity varied from 4.68 × 10−4 to 9.28 × 10−4 mol/g when pH increases from 3.5 to 9.5. Thermodynamic parameters suggest that the adsorption is a typical physical process, spontaneous, and exothermic in nature. The results revealed that this agricultural waste has potential to be used as an economical adsorbent for the removal of methylene blue from aqueous solution.  相似文献

Batch sorption experiments were carried out using a novel adsorbent, guava leaf powder (GLP), for the removal of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solutions. Potential of GLP for adsorption of MB from aqueous solution was found to be excellent. Effects of process parameters pH, adsorbent dosage, concentration, particle size and temperature were studied. Temperature-concentration interaction effect on dye uptake was studied and a quadratic model was proposed to predict dye uptake in terms of concentration, time and temperature. The model conforms closely to the experimental data. The model was used to find optimum temperature and concentration that result in maximum dye uptake. Langmuir model represent the experimental data well. Maximum dye uptake was found to be 295mg/g, indicating that GLP can be used as an excellent low-cost adsorbent. Pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second order and intraparticle diffusion models were tested. From experimental data it was found that adsorption of MB onto GLP follow pseudo second order kinetics. External diffusion and intraparticle diffusion play roles in adsorption process. Free energy of adsorption (DeltaG degrees ), enthalpy change (DeltaH degrees ) and entropy change (DeltaS degrees ) were calculated to predict the nature of adsorption. Adsorption in packed bed was also evaluated.  相似文献

In this work, Sawdust was used to develop a new low-cost adsorbent and study its application to remove methylene blue dye from aqueous solution. Sawdust was calcined under air atmosphere at three different temperatures (300°C, 400°C, and 500°C) using phosphoric acid (H3PO4) as an activating agent. The structure, morphology, surface functions and the chemical composition of adsorbent were characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared spectra (FTIR), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), specific surface area (BET) and Boehm method. Different operational parameters such as pH, adsorbent loading, contact time and were investigated to evaluate experimental data. The adsorption of MB on SD-300, SD-400, and SD-500 show that the pseudo-second-order and Langmuir models fitted better the experimental results of MB adsorption onto all adsorbents. The maximum capacities based on the Langmuir model were 416.7 mg.g?1 for SD-300, 526.3 mg.g?1 for SD-400, and 819.7 mg.g?1 for SD-500. The positive values of ΔG, ΔH, and ΔS implied that the adsorption process was non-spontaneous and endothermic nature. Finally, Regeneration of the SD-500 was investigated and optimization was performed using CCD combined with RSM.  相似文献

The basic oxygen furnace waste generated in steel plant has been used as a low cost adsorbent for the removal of Pb(II) from aqueous solution. The effect of pH, adsorbent dosage, initial metal ion concentration, contact time and temperature on adsorption process was studied in batch experiments. Results of the equilibrium experiments showed that the solution pH was the key factor affecting the adsorption characteristics. Optimum pH for the adsorption was found to be 5 with corresponding adsorbent dosage level of 5 g/L. The equilibrium was achieved within 1 h of contact time. Kinetics data were best described by pseudo second order model. The effective particle diffusion coefficient of Pb(II) is the order of 10−10 m2/s. The maximum uptake was 92.5 mg/g. The adsorption data can be well fitted by Freundlich isotherm. The result of the equilibrium studies showed that the solution pH was the key factor affecting the adsorption. External mass transfer analysis was also carried out for the adsorption process. The thermodynamic studies indicated that the adsorption is spontaneous and endothermic. The sorption energy (10.1745 kJ/mol) calculated from Dubinin–Radushkevich isotherm indicated that the adsorption process is chemical in nature. Desorption studies were carried out using dilute mineral acids to elucidate the mechanism of adsorption. Application studies were carried out considering the economic viewpoint of wastewater treatment plant operations.  相似文献

Meranti (Philippine mahogany) sawdust, an inexpensive material, showed strong scavenging behaviour through adsorption for the removal of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution. Batch studies were performed to evaluate and optimize the effects of various parameters such as contact time, pH, initial dye concentrations and adsorbent dosage. Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin isotherms were used to analyze the equilibrium data at different temperatures. The experimental data fitted well with the Langmuir adsorption isotherm, indicating thereby the mono layer adsorption of the dye. The monolayer sorption capacity of meranti sawdust for MB was found to be 120.48, 117.64, 149.25 and 158.73 mg/g at 30, 40, 50 and 60 °C, respectively. Thermodynamic calculations showed that the MB adsorption process is endothermic and spontaneous in nature. Kinetic studies showed that the adsorption followed a pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The results indicated that the meranti sawdust could be an alternative material in place of more costly adsorbents used for dye removal.  相似文献

The feasibility of using papaya seeds (PS), abundantly available waste in Malaysia, for the cationic dye (methylene blue) adsorption has been investigated. Batch adsorption studies were conducted to study the effects of contact time, initial concentration (50-360 mg/L), pH (3-10) and adsorbent dose (0.05-1.00 g) on the removal of methylene blue (MB) at temperature of 30 degrees C. The equilibrium data were analyzed by the Langmuir, the Freundlich and the Temkin isotherms. The data fitted well with the Langmuir model with a maximum adsorption capacity of 555.557 mg/g. The pseudo-second-order kinetics was the best for the adsorption of MB by PS with good correlation. The results demonstrated that the PS is very effective to remove methylene blue from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

The aim of the present work was to investigate the feasibility of grass waste (GW) for methylene blue (MB) adsorption. The adsorption of MB on GW material was studied as a function of GW dose (0.05–1.20 g), solution pH 3–10, contact time and initial concentration (70–380 mg/L). The influence of these parameters on the adsorption capacity was studied using the batch process. The experimental data were analyzed by the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. The adsorption isotherm was found to follow the Langmuir model. The monolayer adsorption capacity was found to be 457.640 mg/g. The kinetic data were fitted to the pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order models, and were found to follow closely the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The results revealed that GW adsorbent is potentially low-cost adsorbent for adsorption of MB.  相似文献

The effect of pH, adsorbent dosage, contact time, and temperature on the adsorption was investigated. The optimum pH for adsorption of Al(III) was found to be 4.0. The adsorption kinetic of Al(III) onto COOH-MWCNTs fitted with the pseudo-second-order model and the experimental results showed good correlation with the Langmuir model. The maximum adsorption capacity for Al(III) was obtained as 104.16 mg g?1.  相似文献

In the present paper, boron removal from aqueous solutions by batch adsorption was investigated and 2(3) full factorial design was applied. Calcined alunite was used as adsorbent. In the study, three parameters affected the performance and two levels of these parameters were investigated. The chosen parameters were temperature (25 and 45 degrees C, respectively), pH (3 and 10) and mass of adsorbent (0.5 g adsorbent per 25 mL solution and 1g adsorbent per 25 mL solution). The significance of the effects was checked by analysis of variance (statistical software, MINITAB-Version 15). The model-function equation for boron adsorption on calcined alunite was obtained. The results showed that temperature, pH and mass of adsorbent affected boron removal by adsorption. Boron removal increased with increasing pH and adsorbent dosage, but decreased with increasing temperature. The optimum conditions were found as pH 10, adsorbent dosage=1g of calcined alunite per 25 mL solution and temperature=25 degrees C by using factorial design. In addition, the effects of parameters such as calcination temperature, pH, temperature, adsorbent dosage and initial boron concentration on boron removal were investigated. The adsorption isotherm studies were also performed. Maximum adsorbent capacity (q(0)) was calculated as 3.39 mg/g. Thermodynamic parameters such as change in free energy (DeltaG degrees), enthalpy (DeltaH degrees) and entropy (DeltaS degrees) were also determined.  相似文献

Nitrophenols (NPs) and their derivatives are highly toxic, mutagenic and bio-refractory pollutants commonly present in natural water resources and industrial wastewater. To remove NPs from water, N-doped graphitic carbon (NGC) and NGC adsorbent containing titanium dioxide (NGC–TiO2) were synthesized by pyrolysis of microcrystalline cellulose and dopamine mixture, and the mixture along with TiO2 at 500°C, respectively. NCG-TiO2 was thoroughly characterized using various analytical techniques. NP adsorption on the NGC–TiO2 adsorbent surface was studied by varying the pH, initial concentration of NP, and adsorbent dose. The results showed that the most efficient adsorption was achieved at pH 3. After 4?h sonication at pH 3, 80% 4-NP adsorption was achieved using NGC–TiO2 compared to 74% with NGC adsorbent. The percentage removal of 4-NP was higher than 3-NP which was also higher than 2,4-DNP using NGC–TiO2. 4-NP adsorption best fitted to the Langmuir isotherm plot with R2 value of 0.9981 and adsorption capacity of 52.91?mg?g?1. The adsorption process of NP was found to follow a pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The rate constant value for the adsorption of 10?4?M 4-NP at pH 3 using 10?mg of NGC–TiO2 adsorbent was found to be 3.76?×?10?5?g.mg?1.min?1  相似文献

Nano-sized magnesium oxide (nano-MgO) was investigated for adsorption of fluoride from water. The pure and fluoride adsorbed nano-MgO were characterised by Brunauer–Emmett–Teller, high resolution transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray analyses. The surface area of the adsorbent was found to be 92.46?m2/g. Maximum (90%) fluoride removal was obtained with 0.6?g/L dosage of nano-MgO. Fluoride adsorption by nano-MgO was found to be less sensitive to pH variations. Fluoride sorption was mainly influenced by the presence of OH? ion. The presence of other ions studied did not affect the fluoride adsorption capacity of nano-MgO significantly. It has been observed that Freundlich model was better fitted as compared to Langmuir model which indicated the multilayer adsorption of the adsorbent following a pseudo-second order kinetics. Regeneration study showed that 1?M HCl was the best eluent with 95% desorption capacity towards fluoride removal followed by NaOH (2?M) with 25% regeneration of the adsorbent.  相似文献

In this study, Fe-Zr-La tri-metal oxide (FZLO) composite was synthesized by co-precipitation method as new complex adsorbent for effective phosphate removal from aqueous media. The scanning electron microscopic study revealed that the adsorbent was of amorphous structure and consisted of the inhomogeneous aggregated nanoparticles with different sizes. Various influencing parameters such as pH values, initial concentration of phosphate ions, contact time, temperature and co-existing anions were studied to perform batch adsorption experiments. The experimental results demonstrated that the adsorption process was highly pH-dependent and obtained the maximum phosphate adsorption capacity of 101.0 mg g−1 at pH = 6. The adsorption process occurred on surface of FZLO composite has been found to be mono-layered and chemisorption dominated in nature as the data fitted well to Langmuir isotherm as well as the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The structure and properties of the adsorbent before and after adsorption using FT-IR, XRD and XPS techniques suggested that the adsorption mechanisms involved electrostatic attraction, complexation and ligand exchange. After the adsorption, the remained P concentration met the permissible limit by the Environmental Protection Agency. The Fe-Zr-La tri-metal oxide composite could be a promising adsorbent for phosphate removal from aqueous media.  相似文献

In this study, the ability of rice husk to adsorb methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution was investigated in a fixed-bed column. The effects of important parameters, such as the value of initial pH, existed salt, the flow rate, the influent concentration of MB and bed depth, were studied. The Thomas model was applied to adsorption of MB at different flow rate, influent concentration and bed depth to predict the breakthrough curves and to determine the characteristic parameters of the column useful for process design using non-linear regression. The bed-depth/service time analysis (BDST) model was also applied at different bed depth to predict the breakthrough curves. The two models were found suitable for describing the biosorption process of the dynamic behavior of the rice husk column. All the results suggested that rice husk as adsorbent to removal MB from solution be efficient, and the rate of biosorption process be rapid. When the flow rate was 8.2ml min(-1) and the influent concentration of MB was 50mgl(-1), the equilibrium adsorption biomass reached 4.41mgg(-1) according to Thomas model.  相似文献

In this study, an orthogonal array design method was employed to optimize carbon preparation from distillers’ grain (DGAC). The physical and chemical properties of the produced DGAC were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), N2 adsorption–desorption technique (Brunauer-Emmett-Teller, BET), and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The BET surface area of DGAC was found to be 1430?m2/g, with average pore diameter of 2.19?nm. Batch experiments were carried out to study the adsorption of methylene blue (MB) onto DGAC. External mass transfer model, internal diffusion model, Boyd model and pseudo-second-order model were used to fit the adsorption kinetic process of MB adsorption onto DGAC. The results shows the external mass transfer model could only describe the adsorption for the initial 5?min, and later the internal diffusion in the pores of the carbon particles became a main resistance, chemisorption was also involved in the adsorption process. The adsorption equilibrium was described best by Langmuir isotherm with maximum adsorption capacity of 934.6?mg/g of MB at 55°C, thermodynamic studies confirmed that the adsorption of MB onto DGAC was spontaneous and thermodynamically favourable. These findings support the potential of using distillers’ grain as raw material to prepare well-developed porous texture adsorbent with huge MB removal capacity.  相似文献
