In the last years, the Web community has shown a broad interest in Web services that handle multimedia contents. To improve the usability of these services different tools have been proposed in the literature, and in this context agent-based recommender systems appear to be a promising solution. However, the recommender systems presented in the past do not take into account, in their recommendation algorithms, the effect of the device exploited by the user, while it is clear that the same user shows a different behavior in the presence of different devices. This paper tries to give a contribution in this setting, in order to match more accurately user preferences and interests. In particular, a new agent-based system is proposed, whose architecture allows to compute recommendations of multimedia Web services, considering the effect of the currently exploited device. Some experimental results confirm the high quality of the recommendations generated by the proposed approach.  相似文献

Cultural heritage is increasingly put through imaging systems such as multispectral cameras and 3D scanners. Though these acquisition systems are often used independently, they collect complementary information (spectral vs. spatial) used for the study, archiving and visualization of cultural heritage. The growing needs of multimedia communications are leading to new developments in providing real-time communication with guarantees. Several extensions have been proposed for different layers of the Open Systems Interconnection Reference Model to accomodate these needs. In this paper, we study methods for guaranteeing delay jitter bounds for high-speed networks in the network and application layers of this model. The method proposed for the network layer provides distributed jitter control. The method proposed for the application layer allows the destination application to control delay jitter. We use a simulation to compare the effects on delay jitter in each method for various scenarios, such as constant bit rate, cross traffic, and bursty data. In addition, the buffer space requirements for accommodating real-time channels are monitored at each node in the network.  相似文献

Preserving cultural heritage is one of the most intricate jobs that need to be performed with a lot of caution. Transporting artworks on the other hand, i.e., getting them out of their home museums and exposing them in uncontrollable and dynamic environments, makes preservation even harder. So far, museums try to contend against the dynamic context during transportation by employing high-class transport cases. However, no attempts are made to exploit the science of data. In this paper, we make use of the ubiquity of sensors and IoT devices, combined with advanced predictive analytics in order to manage processes based on their context and to anticipate challenging run-time violations. Our approach is tested on real datasets and transport scenarios to prove its efficiency.

The digitization of antiquities is facilitating a renaissance for scholars who have unprecedented access to rich representations of objects. Cultural Heritage digitization is a central challenge, and its subtleties are intertwined with object properties and the constraints of physical access and handling. In this paper, we present the design and analysis of a system built for the digitization of Puerto Rican petroglyphic iconography. The petroglyphs exhibit unique properties (shape, size, surface) that determine system design choices. The 3D models obtained with the system support new scholarly and educational activities, including interactive surface lighting, feature highlighting and annotation through mark-up, and immersive viewing using large-scale displays.  相似文献

Quality-of-service adaptation in distributed multimedia applications   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
High-speed networks and powerful end-systems enable new types of applications, such as video-on-demand and teleconferencing. Such applications are very demanding on quality of service (QoS) because of the isochronous nature of the media they are using. To support these applications, QoS guarantees are required. However, even with service guarantees, violations may occur because of resources shortage, e.g., network congestion. In this paper we propose new adaptation approaches, which allow the system to recover automatically, if possible, from QoS violations (1) by identifying a new configuration of system components that might support the initially agreed QoS and by performing a user-transparent transition from the original configuration to the new one, (2) by redistributing the levels of QoS that should be supported, in the future, by the components, or (3) by redistributing the levels of QoS that should be supported immediately to meet end-to-end requirements based on the principle that (local) QoS violation at one component may be recovered immediately by the other components participating in the support of the requested service. The proposed approaches, together with suitable negotiation mechanisms, allow us (1) to reduce the probability of QoS violations which may be noticed by the user, and thus, to increase the user confidence in the service provider, and (2) to improve the utilization of the system resources, and thus to increase the system availability.  相似文献

Computing capabilities are continuing to increase with the availability of multi core and many core processors. The wide availability of multi core processors has made parallel programming possible for end user applications running on desktops, workstations, and mobile devices. While parallel hardware has become common, software that exploits parallel capabilities is just beginning to take hold. Multimedia applications, with their data parallel nature and large computing requirements will benefit significantly from parallel programming. In this paper an overview of parallel programming is presented and languages and tools for parallel programming such as OpenMP and CUDA are introduced within the scope of multimedia applications.  相似文献

Summary This paper covers important developments in the use of computers for quantitative research in cultural anthropology, particularly in areas which (unlike statistics) are uniquely anthropological. These fall into statistical topics and topics in scaling and measurement. By far the largest single usage of computers by cultural anthropologists is for statistical summaries of field data and for simple statistical tests such as thechi-squared for the analysis of field data or for cross-cultural studies. As the discipline develops this situation will remain the same. In fact, the proportion of people who use the computer primarily for contingency tables, frequency counts, and correlation analysis may very well increase, since there are many potential users who would fall in this category and only a few potential users who would perform other operations such as multi-dimensional scaling or simulation. The few other computer techniques that would be relevant to anthropology, and for which the technology already exists, include linear regression, as practiced by economists, and linear programming (also practiced by economists), both of which could be extremely useful in the study of peasant economy. Careful research with such models could dispel some of the controversy which has been hindering the development of economic anthropology for the last fifteen years. The training of anthropologists who can understand the relevance of such models to their work may be far in the future, since the majority of them are still skeptical of most formal methods and of the computers which make them work.  相似文献

Smartphone is a dynamic new media that faces high popularity due to its versatile services and the friendliness of its usage. It can be used in many activities of everyday life from e-commerce to e-tourism. In this work, we study smartphone’s secure usability in cultural heritage sites and environments. Our goal is to make a first attempt towards a trustworthy commercial multimedia guiding system targeting cultural sites that will be executed in a set of smartphones. More specifically, we are interested in how the needs of curators and visitors, experts or not, of a cultural heritage site can be facilitated by the provided multimedia guiding services of smartphones employing trustworthy implementations of smartphone services that are controlled by a central server. 文化遗产地周边振动环境对文物的影响问题日益突出,如爆破、强冲击施工等产生的环境振动对文化遗产地的文物安全可能会产生严重的影响,有必要对振动环境进行监测,同时定位对文物有破坏性影响的振源位置,为文物预防性保护工作提供科学依据和技术支持。研究了基于地振动的振源定位算法,提出适用于文化遗产地周边强夯、爆破施工等违规工业振源的定位方法,计算机仿真结果验证了该方法的有效性。研究了振动测点布设阵型和数量对定位效果的影响,提出了确定振动测点布设阵型和数量的方法,为进一步建设文化遗产地监测系统提供理论依据。  相似文献

将水平集方法引入到三维模型网格简化中,构造符号距离函数,函数的零集定义为初始曲面;引入一个能量泛涵,通过对其极小化诱导出一个水平集形式的二阶几何偏微分方程,从而将网格简化过程转化为隐式模型的体素扩散过程。该方法目前已经用于文化遗产数字化的大场景和文物的模型简化中。对水平集网格简化算法和现常用的基于点对收缩的网格简化算法在视觉质量和几何误差方面做了比较和分析,实验表明该方法适用于任意拓扑形状的网格模型,使得模型大规模简化后,在保持较低误差的同时,仍然能够保持相当多的重要几何特征和较好的整体视觉效果。  相似文献

Security is becoming an increasingly important issue in the design of multimedia applications, which are widely used in the industry and academic organizations. However, existing scheduling schemes for real-time multimedia service in heterogeneous networks generally do not take into account security requirements when making allocation and control decisions. In this paper, we develop and evaluate a security-critical multimedia scheduling scheme in the framework of heterogeneous networks. At first, we construct a general media distortion model according to the observed parameters in each network, as well as each application’s characteristic. After that, we exploit a scalable graph-based authentication method which achieves a good trade-off between flexibility and efficiency. Furthermore, a security-critical scheduling scheme is proposed by taking into account applications’ timing and security requirements in addition to precedence constraints. The proposed scheme is applied to heuristically find resource allocations, which maximize the quality of security and the probability of meeting deadlines for all the multimedia applications running on heterogeneous networks. Extensive simulations are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed scheme.  相似文献
