Cobalt Chelate Complexes as Hydrogenation Catalysts. The Reduction of Nitro Compounds to Amines with Carbon Monoxid and Water as Hydrogenation Agent Cobalt complexes of tetradentate chelating agents have been found to catalyse the selective homogeneous reduction of nitroaryls to amines with carbon monoxide and water at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. The cobalt complexes are highly specific. Dinitroaromatics can be reduced to the intermediate nitro amines in good yields; mixtures of nitroaryls can be reduced likewise sequentially. The reaction rate depends on the pH of the reaction solutions.     

Die copolymerisation ungesättigter polyester mit styrol und wasserstoffperoxyd als initiator

Unsaturated polyester resins have been cured with hydrogen peroxide as initiator agent instead of commonly used organic peroxides. It has been found that the addition of cobalt salts strongly accelerates the rate of copolymerization at room temperature. The addition of tertiary amines has a beneficial influence on the course of reactions, too. The cured polyester resins show valuable mechanical properties.     

Tetrathiafulvalene. XIX. Synthese und Eigenschaften elektronenleitender Poly-Dithiolenkomplexe mit Ethylentetrathiolat und Tetrathiafulvalentetrathiolat als Brückenliganden

Tetrathiafulvalenes. XIX. Synthesis and Properties of Electron Conducting Poly-Dithiolene Complexes with Ethylene Tetrathiolat and Tetrathiafulvalene Tetrathiolat as Bridge Ligands [1,3]-Dithiolo[4,5-d]-1,3-dithiol-2,5-dione 7 and 5-(5-oxo[1,3]-dithiolo[4,5–d]1,3-dithiole-2-ylidene)[1,3]-dithiolo[4,5–d]1,3–dithiol-2-one 8 were synthesised from 1,3-dithiole-2-thione-4,5-dithiolat. The ligands react with salts of iron, cobalt, nickel, palladium, platinum and copper to give the polymer complexes 22a–g and 23a–e , respectively. Irradiation of 7 in the presence of iron penta-, dicobalt octa- or nickel tetracarbonyl gives the corresponding dithiolene complexes 21a–c . The amorphous insoluble polymer complexes from types 21, 22 , and 23 have been characterised by i.r.-spectroscopy, susceptibility and conductivity measurements. The nickel complexes have the highest electrical conductivity (σ_RT ∼ 10⁻¹Ω⁻¹cm⁻¹, pellets) with a very low activation energy (0,045 eV, 100–300 K) A high electron delocalization in the direction of the polymer chain and an easy charge transfer from chain to chain is supposed.     

Untersuchungen zur Autoxidation von Fetten und Ölen mit Hilfe einer Chemilumineszenz-Methode

Investigations about the Autoxidation of Fats and Oils by a Chemiluminescence Method The oxidative stability of different oils was determined by a Rancimat apparatus. Samples of oils obtained at definite time intervals from the Rancimat were measured by a chemiluminescence method. Thereby the hydroperoxides formed during the first step of the autoxidation and radicals react in presence of a catalyst with Luminol. The results are presented in dependence of the storage time and discussed with relation to the results of the Rancimat apparatus. There is a good correlation between both methods (r = 0.9865).

Preservation with a Synergic O-Nitroalkyl-N-Phenyl-Carbamate-Combination The research on preservatives is directed towards the development of antimicrobial substances having wide range of microbiological action without undesirable toxicological effect, which are not adversely affected by other substances or by physical and chemical means. A new antimicrobial product based on nitroalkyl-N-phenyl-carbamates (M 22), which fulfils the above conditions, is reported.
