Carbon fiber (CF), PU(polyurethane)-coated carbon fiber (CF-PU) and Ni-coated fiber (NCF) treated with a coupling agent (CA) were used to prepare composites for high impact polystyrene (HIPS) by melt blending. The optimum concentration of the titanate CA is 1.5 phf (per hundred parts of filler) when coupled with the carbon fibers. A composite prepared by adding a CA directly into the matrix which was then reinforced with fibers was investigated for comparison. These composites were evaluated for electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness, dispersion, and adhesion between the polymer and the filler by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The addition of CA generally improved the shielding effectiveness; this is especially apparent when the matrix was pretreated with CA before compounding with the fibers. The tensile properties were also improved upon CA addition.  相似文献

Electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness (SE) of multi-walled carbon nanotubes–polymethyl methacrylate (MWCNT–PMMA) composites prepared by two different techniques was measured. EMI SE up to 40 dB in the frequency range 8.2–12.4 GHz (X-band) was achieved by stacking seven layers of 0.3-mm thick MWCNT–PMMA composite films compared with 30 dB achieved by stacking two layers of 1.1-mm thick MWCNT–PMMA bulk composite. The characteristic EMI SE graphs of the composites and the mechanism of shielding have been discussed. SE in this frequency range is found to be dominated by absorption. The mechanical properties (tensile, flexural strength and modulus) of the composites were found to be comparable or better than the pure polymer. The studies therefore show that the composite can be used as structurally strong EMI shielding material.  相似文献

The composites of carbon fiber with EVA, NBR, and their blends have been made by melt mixing technique. Stress–strain plots of different composites show that the necking phenomenon is increasing with the increase in fiber concentration in the polymer matrix. The scanning electron microscopic analysis and swelling study exhibit poor interaction between the short carbon fiber and polymer matrix. The decrease in DC resistivity with the increase in short carbon fiber concentration has been explained on the basis of percolation theory. EMI SE increases slightly with the increase in frequency of electromagnetic radiation but increases sharply with the increase in fiber concentration. EMI SE also depends on blend composition and increases with the increase in EVA concentration in the blend. Return loss is decreasing but absorption loss is increasing with the increase in fiber loading. A linear relationship is observed between the EMI SE and thickness of the composites. The EMI SE is found to increase exponentially with the increase in conductivity of the composite. The permeability value is decreasing with the increase in frequency as well as fiber loading. Thermal properties of the composites have been evaluated by thermogravimetric analysis and dynamic mechanical analysis. POLYM. COMPOS., 2011. © 2011 Society of Plastics Engineers  相似文献

Electromagnetic shielding materials play a significant role in solving the increasing environmental problem of electromagnetic pollutions. The commonly used metal‐based electromagnetic materials suffer from high density, poor corrosion resistance, and high processing cost. Polymer composites exhibit unique combined properties of lightweight, good shock absorption, and corrosion resistance. In this study, a novel high angle sensitive composite is fabricated by combining carbon fiber (CF) fabric with thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer (TPU). The effect of stacking angle of CF fabric on EMI shielding performance of composite is studied. When the stacking angle of CF fabric changed, the electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness (SE) of CF fabric/TPU composite can reach a maximum of 73 dB, and the tensile strength can reach 168 MPa. In addition, the composite has anisotropic conductivity, which is conductive along the plane direction and nonconductive along the thickness direction. Moreover, the CF fabric/TPU composite manifests exceptional EMI‐SE/density/thickness value of 383 dB cm2 g?1, which is higher than most of current EMI shielding composites reported in literature. In summary, CF fabric/TPU composite is an excellent EMI shielding material that is lightweight, highly flexible, and mechanically robust, which can be applied to the field of aerospace and some intelligent electronic devices.  相似文献

Acrylonitrile–styrene–acrylate/natural graphite/carbon nanofiber composites (ASA/NG/CNF) were prepared using a melting blending method. The effects of CNFs on the morphology, rheological properties, dynamical mechanical properties, electrical resistivity, and electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) were studied using a scanning electron microscope, a rotational rheometer, and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). The addition of CNFs changed the oriented and laminated structure of the ASA/NG composite. The flexural strength of the ASA composite reached a maximum at 6% CNF, and then it began to decrease. The addition of CNFs did not alter the glass‐transition temperature of ASA, but it largely increased the storage modulus of the composite in DMA tests. In the rheological measurements, the complex viscosity and storage modulus of the composite increased as CNF content increased, and the resistance to creep of the composites was significantly increased by the addition of CNFs. The electrical resistivity of the ASA composites decreased from 49.8 Ω cm to 2.3 Ω cm as the CNF content was increased from 0 to 12%. At the same time, the EMI properties of the composites rose from 15 dB to 30 dB in the frequency range 30–1500 MHz. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2017 , 134, 45455.  相似文献

The morphological, electrical, and thermal properties of polyurethane foam (PUF)/single conductive filler composites and PUF/hybrid conductive filler composites were investigated. For the PUF/single conductive filler composites, the PUF/nickel‐coated carbon fiber (NCCF) composite showed higher electrical conductivity and electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) than did the PUF/multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) and PUF/graphite composites; therefore, NCCF is the most effective filler among those tested in this study. For the PUF/hybrid conductive fillers PUF/NCCF (3.0 php)/MWCNT (3.0 php) composites, the values of electrical conductivity and EMI SE were determined to be 0.171 S/cm and 24.7 dB (decibel), respectively, which were the highest among the fillers investigated in this study. NCCF and MWCNT were the most effective primary and secondary fillers, and they had a synergistic effect on the electrical conductivity and EMI SE of the PUF/NCCF/MWCNT composites. From the results of thermal conductivity and cell size of the PUF/conductive filler composites, it is suggested that a reduction in cell size lowers the thermal conductivity of the PUF/conductive filler composites. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Three types of single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) homogeneous epoxy composites with different SWCNT loadings (0.01-15%) have been evaluated for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness (SE) in the X-band range (8.2-12.4 GHz). The effect of the SWCNT structure including both the SWCNT aspect ratio and wall integrity, on the EMI SE have been studied and are found to correlate well with the conductivity and percolation results for these composites. The composites show very low conductivity thresholds (e.g. 0.062%). A 20-30 dB EMI SE has been obtained in the X-band range for 15% SWCNT loading, indicating that the composites can be used as effective lightweight EMI shielding materials. Furthermore, their EMI performance to radio frequencies is found to correspond well with their permittivity data.  相似文献

The electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding mechanisms of multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)/polymer composites were analyzed experimentally and theoretically. For the experimental analysis, EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) of MWCNT/polypropylene (PP) composite plates made in three different thicknesses and at four different concentrations were studied. A model based on the shielding of electromagnetic plane wave was used to theoretically study the EMI shielding mechanisms. The experimental results showed that absorption is the major shielding mechanism and reflection is the secondary shielding mechanism. The modeling results demonstrated that multiple-reflection within MWCNT internal surfaces and between MWCNT external surfaces decrease the overall EMI SE. The EMI SE of MWCNT/PP composites increased with increase in MWCNT content and shielding plate thickness.

This study focuses on the electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) of SiC nanowire/SiC ceramic composites (SiCnw/SiC) manufactured by chemical vapor infiltration of SiCnw aerogels with carbon‐rich SiC. The total EMI SE of a 1.0 mm thick ceramic composite specimen with density of only 2.68 g/cm3, was found to be 43‐44 dB, which indicates an excellent EM shielding capability of the ceramic composite corresponding to blocking of 99.99% of the incident EM signal. It was found that the carbon‐rich CVI‐SiC matrix possess excellent EM shielding properties, therefore, the CVI‐SiC CMCs themselves possess an excellent EM shielding property as a result of the carbon‐rich SiC matrix.  相似文献

Polypropylene/carbon nanotube/exfoliated graphite nanoplatelet (PP/CNT/xGnP) composites have been fabricated to evaluate their electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) and soundproofing. An EMI SE of 36.5 dB at 1250 MHz was measured for the 80/10/10 wt % PP/CNT/xGnP composite; its sound transmission loss was more than 5 dB higher than that for pure PP at low frequencies (520–640 Hz). These results indicate simultaneous EMI SE and soundproofing. Transmission electron microscopy was used to study the microstructure and to probe synergetic effects between the CNTs and xGnPs. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. In this study, the conductive silicone rubber composites filled with nickel‐coated graphite (NCG) have been prepared, and their morphology structure, electrical conductivity, electromagnetic interference shielding efficiency (EMI SE), and mechanical properties have been investigated with reference to the NCG filler loading. The mechanical strength of NCG particle was poor that it can be easily ground into smaller particle during the mixing process if the shear force during mixing is large enough. The electrical conductivity of the composites existed an obvious threshold value with the variation of the loading amount of the conductive filler. EMI SE of the composites increases with the decrease of the volume electrical resistivity. The Payne effect can be used to characterize the intensity of the three‐dimensional conductive network structure in silicone rubber matrix, and the difference of storage modulus in the low and high shear strain has good linear correlation with the electrical conductivity. So, the electrical conductivity and EMI SE can be estimated by means of the difference of storage modulus obtained from rubber process analysis test. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An efficient electromagnetic shielding composite based on multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)-filled styrene acrylic emulsion-based polymer has been prepared in a water-based system. The MWCNTs were demonstrated to have an effect on the dielectric constants, which effectively enhance electromagnetic shielding efficiency (SE) of the composites. A low conductivity threshold of 0.23 wt% can be obtained. An EMI SE of ~28 dB was achieved for 20 wt% MWCNTs. The AC conductivity (σ ac) of the composites, deduced from imaginary permittivity, was used to estimate the SE of the composites in X band (8.2–12.4 GHz), showing a good agreement with the measured results.  相似文献

Polypyrrole (PPy) was polymerized both chemically and electrochemically in sequence on nylon 6 woven fabrics, giving rise to polypyrrole–nylon 6 composite fabrics (PPy–N) with a high electric conductivity. The stability of the composite prepared by electrochemical polymerization (ECP) on chemical oxidative polymerization (COP) fabric was better than that of the composite prepared solely by the COP process, since the AQSA dopant was able to strongly interact with the PPy main chain and had a large molecular structure. The temperature dependence of the conductivity of the composites was verified over four heating and cooling cycles. The change in conductivity over these four repeated heating and cooling cycles was affected by the interaction between the thermal stability of the dopant and the rearrangement of the PPy main chain. The electromagnetic interference shielding efficiency (EMI SE) values were in the range 5–40 dB and depended on the conductivity and the layer array sequence of the conductive fabric. The composites with a high conductivity represented reflection‐dominant EMI shielding characteristics, which are typical of the EMI shielding characteristics of metals. However, composites with low conductivity showed absorption‐dominant EMI shielding characteristics. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 87: 1969–1974, 2003  相似文献

Electrical, morphological and rheological properties of polyethylene (PE)/multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) and poly(phenylene sulfide) (PPS)/MWCNT composites were studied with the MWCNT content using vector network analyzer, scanning electron microscopy and rotational rheometry. From the results of electrical conductivity and electromagnetic interference shielding efficiency (EMI SE) of the PE/MWCNT and PPS/MWCNT composites, the electrical percolation threshold of the composites has found to be 5 and 3 wt% MWCNT, respectively. From the results of the EMI SE of the composites, it was suggested that the increase in homogeneous dispersion of the MWCNT in the PPS matrix has been attributed to the increase in connectivity of the MWCNT-MWCNT network structure of the composite. Therefore, the higher values of the EMI SE with the MWCNT content were observed in the PPS/MWCNT than the PE/MWCNT composites. From the results of the rheological properties of the PE/MWCNT and PPS/MWCNT composites, the increase in the complex viscosity was observed for the PPS/MWCNT than the PE/MWCNT composites. The increase in complex viscosity maybe due to the increase in homogeneous dispersion of the MWCNT in the PPS matrix than that in the PE matrix. From the results of the rheological properties of the PE/MWCNT and PPS/MWCNT composites, it was suggested that the homogeneous dispersion of the MWCNT in the polymer matrix has affected the increase in complex viscosity of the PPS/MWCNT composite. This result of rheological behavior is consistent with the results of the EMI SE of the PE/MWCNT and PPS/MWCNT composites.  相似文献

The effect of carbon fiber (CF) modification with multiwall carbon nanotube (CNT) on the electrical, mechanical, and rheological properties of the polycarbonate (PC)/CF/CNT composite was investigated. The CF and multiwall CNT (MWCNT) were treated with sulfuric acid and nitric acid (3:1 wt %) mixture, to modify the CF with the CNT. For the PC with acid-treated CNT (a-CNT) modified acid-treated CF (a-CF) (PC/a-CF/a-CNT) composite, the electrical conductivity, and the electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) showed the highest values, compared with those of the PC/a-CF and PC/a-CF/CNT composites. The EMI SE of the PC/a-CF (10 wt %)/a-CNT (0.5 wt %) composite was found to be 26 (dB at the frequency of 10.0 GHz, and the EMI SE was increased by 91.2%, compared to that of the PC/a-CF composite at the same amount of total filler content. Among the composites studied in this work, the PC/a-CF/a-CNT composite also showed the highest values of relative permittivity (εr) and dielectric loss factor. The above results suggest that the CF modification with the a-CNT significantly affected the electrical conductivity and EMI SE of the composite, and the hybrid fillers of the a-CNT and a-CF resulted in good electrical pathways in the PC/a-CF/a-CNT composite. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Electroless nickel coated carbon fibers (ENCF) were blended with acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) to prepare composites for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding. The effects of processing parameters, such as additives, temperature, and fiber loading amount, on EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) were researched. The thermal stability of EMI SE of ENCF/ABS composites was tested by heat treating composites in a drying oven at 60°C, and SE was measured at an interval of one week to consider the degradation of SE. The best SE of ENCF/ABS composites could be reached was 44 dB at optimum processing parameters. The thermal stability of ENCF/ABS composites for EMI shielding was steady without obvious degradation after 60°C heat treatment for five weeks. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

The evaluation and optimization of EMW absorbing properties have been widely studied, but little research focused on EMI shielding properties predicted by complex permittivity. Based on the transmission-line theory, shielding effectiveness (SE) of a dielectric composite was evaluated by the reflection coefficient (Г) and transmission coefficient (T) which were calculated by the complex permittivity. SiCf/SiCN composites containing different content of CVI SiCN matrix are attractive for their tunable dielectric properties, which may vary from EMW absorption to EMI shielding. Therefore, SiCf/SiCN composites are typical dielectric composites used for experimental verification, and the results indicate that the dielectric composites without CVI SiCN phase have good EMW absorbing properties, while they exhibit good EMI shielding effectiveness with CVI SiCN phase. This work builds a relationship between the EMI shielding effectiveness and the complex permittivity, and obtains the optimized complex permittivity for excellent EMI shielding effectiveness.  相似文献

The electrical conductivity and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness (SE) can be conspicuously enhanced at low conductive filler contents with the formation of segregated structure in the conductive polymer composites (CPCs). Nevertheless, poor interface adhesion of segregated composites results in poor mechanical properties due to the selective distribution of conductive fillers. In this work, a flexible approach was applied to fabricate the poly(phenylene sulfide)/poly(arylene sulfide sulfone)/graphene nanoplates (GNPs) composite with a unique double percolated structure. This composite exhibits an outstanding EMI SE of 38.8 dB with only 3 wt % GNPs, which is comparable to that of the conventional segregated structure counterpart. What is more, the tensile strength and Young's modulus of double percolated composites with 3 wt % GNPs are remarkably improved by ~892 and ~274% compared to conventional segregated structure, achieving 37.7 and 1788.3 MPa, respectively. This work provides a valuable method for producing CPCs with high EMI shielding performances and outstanding mechanical properties. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. The primary purpose of the study is to investigate the anisotropic behavior of different noncrimp stitched fabric (NCF) reinforced polyester composites. Carbon fiber composite laminates were manufactured by vacuum infusion of polyester resin into two commonly used advanced noncrimp stitched carbon fabric types, unidirectional and biaxial carbon fabric. The effects of geometric variables on composite structural integrity and strength were illustrated. Hence, tensile and three‐point bending flexural tests were conducted up to failure on specimens strengthened with different layouts of fibrous plies in NCF. In this article an important practical problem in fibrous composites, interlaminar shear strength as measured in short beam shear tests, is discussed. The fabric composites were tested in three directions: at 0°, 45°, and 90°. Extensive photomicrographs of multilayered composites resulting from a variety of uniaxial loading conditions were presented. It was observed that broken fibers recede within the matrix in composites with weak interfacial bond. Another aim of the present work was to investigate the interaction between carbon fiber and polyester matrix. The experiments, in conjunction with scanning electron photomicrographs of fractured surfaces of composites, were interpreted in an attempt to explain the instability of polyester‐resin–carbon‐fiber interfaces. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
