A series of polyamides and poly(amide-imide)s were prepared by the direct polycondensation of 4,4′-[sulfonylbis(1,4-phenyleneoxy)]dianiline or 4,4′-[sulfonylbis(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenyleneoxy)]dianiline with aromatic dicarboxylic acids and phthalimide unit-bearing dicarboxylic acids in a N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) solution containing dissolved calcium chloride using triphenyl phosphite and pyridine as condensing agents. The inherent viscosities of the resulting polymers were above 0.45 dL/g and up to 1.70 dL/g. Except for the polyamides derived from terephthalic acid and 4,4′-biphenyldicarboxylic acid, all the other polyamides and all poly(amide-imide)s were readily soluble in polar organic solvents such as NMP, N, N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc), N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF), dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), and m-cresol, and afforded transparent and tough films by solution-casting. Most of the polymers showed distinct glass transition on their differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) traces and their glass transition temperatures (Tg) stayed between 140–264 °C. The methyl-substituted polymers showed higher Tgs than the corresponding unsubstituted counterparts. The results of the thermogravimetry analysis (TGA) revealed that all the methyl-substituted polymers showed lower initial decomposition temperatures than the unsubstituted ones.  相似文献

In order to obtain polyamides with enhanced solubility and processability, as well as good mechanical and thermal properties, several novel polyamides containing sulfone‐ether linkages and xanthene cardo groups based on a new diamine monomer, 9,9‐bis[4‐(4‐aminophenoxy)phenyl]xanthene (BAPX), were investigated. The BAPX monomer was synthesized via a two‐step process consisting of an aromatic nucleophilic substitution reaction of readily available 4‐chloronitrobenzene with 9,9‐bis(4‐hydroxyphenyl)xanthene in the presence of potassium carbonate in N,N‐dimethylformamide, followed by catalytic reduction with hydrazine and Pd/C. Four novel aromatic polyamides containing sulfone‐ether linkages and xanthene cardo groups with inherent viscosities between 0.98 and 1.22 dL g?1 were prepared by low‐temperature polycondensation of BAPX with 4,4′‐sulfonyldibenzoyl chloride, 4,4′‐[sulfonyl‐bis(4‐phenyleneoxy)]dibenzoyl chloride, 3,3′‐[sulfonyl‐bis(4‐phenyleneoxy)]dibenzoyl chloride and 4,4′‐[sulfonyl‐bis(2,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐phenyleneoxy)]dibenzoyl chloride in N,N‐dimethylacetamide (DMAc) solution containing pyridine. All these new polyamides were amorphous and readily soluble in various polar solvents such as DMAc and N‐methylpyrrolidone. These polymers showed relatively high glass transition temperatures in the range 238–298 °C, almost no weight loss up to 450 °C in air or nitrogen atmosphere, decomposition temperatures at 10% weight loss ranging from 472 to 523 °C and 465 to 512 °C in nitrogen and air, respectively, and char yields at 800 °C in nitrogen higher than 50 wt%. Transparent, flexible and tough films of these polymers cast from DMAc solution exhibited tensile strengths ranging from 78 to 87 MPa, elongations at break from 9 to 13% and initial moduli from 1.7 to 2.2 GPa. Primary characterization of these novel polyamides shows that they might serve as new candidates for processable high‐performance polymeric materials. Two bisphenols, viz., 4,4′‐[1‐(2‐naphthalenyl)ethylidene]bisphenol and 4,4′‐[1‐(2‐naphthalenyl) ethylidene]bis‐3‐methylphenol were prepared by condensation of commercially available 2‐acetonaphthanone with phenol and o‐cresol, respectively. A series of new aromatic polyesters containing pendent naphthyl units was synthesized by phase‐transfer‐catalyzed interfacial polycondensation of these bisphenols with isophthaloyl chloride, terephthaloyl chloride, and a mixture of isophthaloyl chloride/terephthaloyl chloride (50 : 50 mol %). Inherent viscosities of polyesters were in the range 0.83–1.76 dL g−1, while number average molecular weights (Mn) were in the range 61,000–235,000 g mol−1. Polyesters were readily soluble in organic solvents such as dichloromethane, chloroform, tetrahydrofuran, m‐cresol, pyridine, N,N‐dimethylformamide, N,N‐dimethylacetamide, and 1‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidinone at room temperature. Tough, transparent, and flexible films were cast from a solution of polyesters in chloroform. X‐Ray diffraction measurements displayed a broad halo at 2θ ≅ 19° indicating the amorphous nature of polyesters. Glass transition temperatures of polyesters were in the range 209–259°C. The temperature at 10% weight loss (T10), determined by TGA in nitrogen atmosphere, of polyesters was in the range 435–500°C indicating their good thermal stability. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polyamides containing arylene sulfide as well as arylene sulfide-sulfone linkages were prepared from bis(4-phenylthio)dibenzoyl chloride (BPCl), 4,4′-[sulfonylbis(4-phenylthio)]dibenzoyl chloride (SPCl) and aromatic diamines both by solution and interfacial polymerization techniques. In the solution polymerization the effect of two different acid acceptors, lithium chloride and triethylamine, on inherent viscosity of the polyamides was studied. The effect of aromatic sulfone ether diamines and conventional aromatic diamines on viscosity and thermal properties of polyamides was also investigated. The polyamides prepared were characterized by IR, 1H NMR, elemental analysis, solution viscosity, thermogravi-metry, differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray diffraction. Thermal and physical properties of polyamides prepared from BPCl and SPCl were compared.  相似文献

Two diamine monomers, 4,4′-[sulfonylbis(1,4-phenyleneoxy)]dianiline (III a ) and 4,4′-[sulfonylbis(2,6-dimethyl-l,4-phenyleneoxy)]dianiline (III b ), were prepared by an aromatic nucleophilic substitution of 4,4′-sulfonyldiphenol (I a ) and 4,4′-sulfonylbis(2,6-dimethylphenol) (I b ) with p-chloronitrobenzene in the presence of potassium carbonate, followed by hydrazine catalytic reduction of the intermediate dinitro compounds. The diamines III a and III b were used as monomers with various aromatic tetracarboxylic dianhydrides (IV a–f ) to synthesize polyimides. The polymerization was conducted in two steps via the formation of a poly(amic acid) precursor followed by thermal cyclodehydration. The poly(amic acid)s had inherent viscosities above 0.87 and up to 2.56 dL/g. Most poly(amic acid)s could be coated and thermodehydrated into flexible and transparent polyimide films. The polyimides derived from the dianhydrides containing-O-and-SO2-or-C(CF3)2-bridging groups between the phthalic anhydride units were soluble in some organic solvents such as N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc) and N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF). The glass transition temperatures (Tg) of the polyimides were in the range from 254 to 300 °C. The methyl-substituted polyimides exhibited slightly higher solubility and higher Tg compared to the corresponding unsubstituted polyimides. Thermogravimetric analysis (TG) showed that the polyimides containing methyl substitutents started to lose weight around 450 °C and the unsubstituted ones started to lose weight around 550 °C.  相似文献

4,4′‐Diamino‐3,3′‐dimethyldiphenylmethane was used to prepare polyimides in an attempt to achieve good organo‐solubility and light color. Polyimides based on this diamine and three conventional aromatic dianhydrides were prepared by solution polycondensation followed by chemical imidization. They possess good solubility in aprotonic polar organic solvents such as N‐methyl 2‐pyrrolidone, N,N‐dimethyl acetamide, and m‐cresol. Polyimide from 4,4′‐diamino‐3,3′‐dimethyldiphenylmethane and diphenylether‐3,3′,4,4′‐tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride is even soluble in common solvents such as tetrahydrofuran and chloroform. Polyimides exhibit high transmittance at wavelengths above 400 nm. The glass transition temperature of polyimide from 4,4′‐diamino‐3,3′‐dimethyldiphenylmethane and pyromellitic dianhydride is 370°C, while that from 4,4′‐diamino‐3,3′‐dimethyldiphenylmethane and diphenylether‐3,3′,4,4′‐tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride is about 260°C. The initial thermal decomposition temperatures of these polyimides are 520–540°C. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 72: 1299–1304, 1999  相似文献

Four novel wholly para‐oriented aromatic polyamide‐hydrazides containing flexibilizing sulfone‐ether linkages in their main chains have been synthesized from 4‐amino‐3‐hydroxy benzhydrazide (4A3HBH) with either 4,4′‐sulfonyldibenzoyl chloride (SDBC), 4,4′‐[sulfonylbis(1,4‐phenylene)dioxy]dibenzoyl chloride (SODBC), 4,4′‐[sulfonylbis(2,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐phenylene)dioxy]dibenzoyl chloride (4MeSODBC), or 4,4′‐(1,4‐phenylenedioxy)dibenzoyl chloride (ODBC) via a low‐temperature solution polycondensation reaction. A polyamide‐hydrazide without the flexibilizing linkages is also investigated for comparison. It was synthesized from 4A3HBH and terephthaloyl chloride (TCl) by the same synthetic route. The intrinsic viscosities of the polymer ranged from 2.85 to 4.83 dL g?1 in N,N‐dimethyl acetamide (DMAc) at 30°C and decreased with introducing the flexibilizing linkages into the polymer. All the polymers were soluble in DMAc, N,N‐dimethyl formamide (DMF), and N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP), and their solutions could be cast into films with good mechanical strengths. Further, they exhibited a great affinity to water sorption. Their solubility and hydrophilicity increased remarkably by introducing the flexibilizing linkages. The polymers could be thermally cyclodehydrated into the corresponding poly(1,3,4‐oxadiazolyl‐benzoxazoles) approximately in the region of 295–470°C either in nitrogen or in air atmospheres. The flexibilizing linkages improve the solubility of the resulting poly(1,3,4‐oxadiazolyl‐benzoxazoles) when compared with poly(1,3,4‐oxadiazolyl‐benzoxazoles) free from these linkages. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Aromatic polyesters are of considerable interest because of their excellent mechanical properties, chemical resistance and thermal stability. However, most aromatic polyesters are difficult to process due to their high glass transition temperatures coupled with their insolubility in common organic solvents. The present article describes a series of organosoluble polyesters and copolyesters based on 1,1,1‐[bis(4‐hydroxyphenyl)‐4′‐pentadecylphenyl]ethane. A series of new aromatic polyesters containing pendant pentadecyl chains was synthesized by interfacial polycondensation of 1,1,1‐[bis(4‐hydroxyphenyl)‐4′‐pentadecylphenyl]ethane with terephthalic acid chloride (TPC), isophthalic acid chloride (IPC) and a mixture of TPC and IPC. A series of copolyesters was synthesized from 4,4′‐isopropylidenediphenol with TPC by incorporating 1,1,1‐[bis(4‐hydroxyphenyl)‐4′‐pentadecylphenyl]ethane as a comonomer. Inherent viscosities of the polyesters and copolyesters were in the range 0.72–1.65 dL g?1 and number‐average molecular weights were in the range 18 170–87 220. The polyesters and copolyesters containing pendant pentadecyl chains dissolved readily in organic solvents such as chloroform, dichloromethane, pyridine and m‐cresol and could be cast into transparent, flexible and apparently tough films. Wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction data revealed the amorphous nature of the polyesters and copolyesters. The formation of loosely developed layered structure was observed due to the packing of pendant pentadecyl chains. The temperature at 10% weight loss, determined using thermogravimetric analysis in nitrogen atmosphere, of the polyesters and copolyesters containing pendant pentadecyl chains was in the range 400–460 °C. The polyesters and copolyesters exhibited glass transition temperatures in the range 63–82 °C and 177–183 °C, respectively. Copyright © 2010 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A novel aromatic diamine, 3,3′‐diisopropyl‐4,4′‐diaminophenyl‐4″‐methyltoluene with a 4‐methylphenyl pendant group and isopropyl side groups, was designed and synthesized in this study. Then it was polymerized with various aromatic dianhydrides including pyromellitic dianhydride, 3,3′,4,4′‐biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride, 4,4′‐oxydiphthalic anhydride, 3,3′,4,4′‐benzophenone tetracarboxylic dianhydride and 4,4′‐(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride via a one‐pot high temperature polycondensation procedure to produce a series of aromatic polyimides. These polyimides exhibited excellent solubility even in common organic solvents, such as chloroform and tetrahydrofuran. The flexible and tough films can be conveniently obtained by solution casting. The films were nearly colorless and exhibited high optical transparency, with the UV cutoff wavelength in the range 302–365 nm and the wavelength of 80% transparency in the range 385–461 nm. Moreover, they showed low dielectric constants (2.73–3.23 at 1 MHz) and low moisture absorption (0.13%–0.46%). Furthermore, they also possessed good thermal and thermo‐oxidative stability with 10% weight loss temperatures (T10%) in the range 489–507 °C in a nitrogen atmosphere. The glass transition temperatures of all polyimides are in the range 262–308 °C. Copyright © 2012 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A diamine containing a pendant phenoxy group, 1-phenoxy-2,4-diaminobenzene, was synthesized and condensed with different aromatic dianhydrides [4,4′-oxydiphthalic dianhydride, 4,4′-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride, 3,3′,4,4′-benzophenone tetracarboxylic dianhydride, 3,3′,4,4′-biphenyltetracorboxylic dianhydride, and pyromellitic dianhydride] by one-step synthesis at a high temperature in m-cresol to obtain polyimides in high yields. Most of the polyimides exhibited good solvent solubility and could be readily dissolved in chloroform, sym-tetrachloroethane, N,N-dimethylformamide, N,N-dimethylacetamide, and nitrobenzene. Their inherent viscosities were in the range of 0.33–1.16 dL/g. Wide-angle X-ray spectra revealed that these polymers were amorphous in nature. All these polyimides were thermally stable, having initial decomposition temperatures above 500°C and glass-transition temperatures in the range of 248–281°C. The gas permeability of 4,4′-oxydiphthalic dianhydride and 4,4′-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride based polyimides was investigated with pure gases: He, H2, O2, Ar, N2, CH4, and CO2. A polyimide containing a  C(CF3)2 linkage showed a good combination of permeability and selectivity. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 2008  相似文献

3,3′‐Dinitrobenzidine was first reacted with excess m‐chlorophenyl acid to form a monomer with dicarboxylic acid end groups. Two types of aromatic dianhydrides (Pyromellitic diconhydride (PMDA) and 3,3′,4,4′‐sulfonyl diphthalic anhydride) were also reacted with excess 4,4′‐diphenylmethane diisocyanate to form polyimide prepolymers terminated with isocyanate groups. The prepolymers were further extended with the diacid monomer to form nitro groups containing aromatic poly(imide amide). The nitro groups in these copolymers were hydrogenated to form amine groups and then were cyclized at 180°C to form poly(imide amide benzimidazole) in poly(phosphoric acid), which acted as a cyclization agent. The resultant copolymers were soluble in sulfuric acid and poly(phosphoric acid), in sulfolane under heating to 100°C, and in the polar solvent N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone under heating to 100°C with 5% lithium chloride. According to wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction, all the copolymers were amorphous. According to thermal analysis, the glass‐transition temperatures of the copolymers were 270–322°C. The 10% weight‐loss temperatures were 460–541°C in nitrogen and 441–529°C in air. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 90: 1435–1444, 2003  相似文献

A series of 2,2′-disubstituted-4,4′-dihydroxybiphenyl monomers was prepared from 3,4,5-tris(n-alkoxy)benzyl chlorides (n = 5, 6, 8, 10, 12) and tetramethylammonium salt of 4,4′-dihydroxydiphenic acid, which was synthesized from two different 5-step routes. 2,2′-Bis(trifluoromethyl)-4,4′-biphenyldicarboxylic acid was synthesized via 5-step route. A series of aromatic polyesters containing multiple alkyl side chains was prepared from the 2,2′-disubstituted-4,4′-dihydroxybiphenyl monomers and 2,2′-bis(trifluoromethyl)-4,4′-biphenyldicarboxylic acid using diisopropylcarbodiimide as a dehydrating agent and 4-(dimethylamino)pyridinium 4-toluenesulfonate as a catalyst at room temperature. Their thermal and solution properties were measured and compared with the polyester without multiple alkyl side chains. The polyesters displayed better solubility in common solvents such as chlorinated solvents and THF but lower thermal stability than the polyester without multiple alkyl side chains. The intrinsic viscosities of the polyesters ranged from 0.68 to 2.53 dL/g and their number-average molecular weights ranged from 19,300 to 61,400. Polyesters containing C5–10 side chains were amorphous while the two polyesters containing C12 side chains crystallized at ?27 and ?31 °C, respectively. The thermal stability of the polyesters decreased as a result of alkyl side chains. The films of polyesters were opaque, indicating that the aromatic backbones and aliphatic side chains underwent phase separation.  相似文献

3,3′,4,4′‐Diphenylsulfonetetracarboxylic dianhydride ( 1 ) was reacted with L‐leucine ( 2 ) in acetic acid and the resulting imide‐acid ( 3 ) was obtained in high yield. The diacid chloride ( 4 ) was prepared from diacid derivative ( 3 ) by reaction with thionyl chloride. The polycondensation reaction of diacid chloride ( 4 ) with several aromatic diamines such as 4,4′‐sulfonyldianiline ( 5a ), 4,4′‐diaminodiphenyl methane ( 5b ), 4,4′‐diaminodiphenylether ( 5c ), p‐phenylenediamine ( 5d ), m‐phenylenediamine ( 5e ), 2,4‐diaminotoluene ( 5f ), and 1,5‐diaminonaphthalene ( 5g ) was developed by using a domestic microwave oven in the presence of a small amount of a polar organic medium such as o‐cresol. The polymerization reactions were also performed under two conventional methods: low temperature solution polycondensation in the presence of trimethylsilyl chloride, and a short period reflux conditions. A series of optically active poly(amide‐imide)s with inherent viscosity of 0.25–0.42 dL/g were obtained with high yield. All of the above polymers were fully characterized by IR, elemental analyses, and specific rotation techniques. Some structural characterizations and physical properties of these optically active poly (amide‐imide) s are reported. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 91: 2992–3000, 2004  相似文献

4,4′‐Bis(4‐phenoxybenzoyl)diphenyl was prepared by the Friedel–Crafts reaction of 4‐bromobenzoyl chloride and diphenyl followed by condensation with potassium phenoxide. Novel aromatic poly(ether ketone diphenyl ketone ether ketone ketone)s were obtained by the electrophilic Friedel–Crafts solution copolycondensation of 4,4′‐bis(4‐phenoxybenzoyl)diphenyl with a mixture of isophthaloyl chloride and terephthaloyl chloride over a wide range of isophthaloyl chloride/terephthaloyl chloride molar ratios in the presence of anhydrous aluminum chloride and N‐methylpyrrolidone in 1,2‐dichloroethane. The influence of the reaction conditions on the preparation of the copolymers was examined. The copolymers were characterized with different physicochemical techniques. Because of the incorporation of diphenyl, the resulting copolymers exhibited outstanding thermal stability. The glass‐transition temperatures were above 174°C, the melting temperatures were above 342°C, and the 5% weight loss temperatures were above 544°C in nitrogen. All these copolymers were semicrystalline and insoluble in organic solvents. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2009  相似文献

Thermostable polyamideimides with inherent viscosity of 1.02–1.50 dL/g were synthesized from reacting of diamine-terminated aromatic amide prepolymer with various diisocyanate terminated imide prepolymers. The imide prepolymer was prepared by using 4,4′-diphen-ylmethane diisocyanate to react with 3,3′,4,4′ benzophenonetetracarboxylic dianhydride, 3,3′,4,4′ sulfonyl diphthalic anhydride, or 4,4′-oxydiphthalic anhydride using the direct one-pot method to improve their solubility. Almost all of the polyamideimides were generally soluble in a wide range of organic solvents such as N,N-dimethylformamide, N,N-dimeth-ylacetamide, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, dimethyl sulfoxide, and pyridine at room temperature. Polymers with high imide content required high temperatures to dissolve. All polyamide-imides had a glass transition temperature of 223–352°C and showed a 10% weight loss temperature of 415–575°C in air and 424–583°C in nitrogen atmosphere. The tensile strength, elongation at break, and initial modulus of polymer films ranged from 61 to 108 MPa, 5 to 10% and 1.54 to 2.50 GPa, respectively. These copolymers were partly crystalline in structure as shown by X-ray pattern. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

The reductive coupling of p-nitrobenzoic acid with glucose solution gave 4,4′-azodibenzoic acid and was converted to 4,4′-azodibenzoylchloride using thionyl chloride. This aromatic diacid chloride was condensed with 4,4′-Diaminodiphenyl ether by two different techniques to yield aromatic polyamide. The low temperature polymerization method resulted in comparatively high molecular weight polymer as evidenced by intrinsic viscosity values. The structure of the material was confirmed by IR studies. Detailed pyrolysis-field ionization mass spectral studies carried out indicated two major degradations. In the temperature region (180–200°C), the mass spectrum showed intense peaks at m/z = 166 and 149 which can be explained from the fragmentation of azodicarboxylic acid formed from the polymer. The mass spectrum recorded at 465°C gave clear proof for the structure of the polyamide and also enough evidence was noted for the hydrogenation of the azo group during pyrolysis.  相似文献

A series of aromatic polyesters containing thioether units were successfully synthesized in this paper. Two kinds of aromatic dichloride, (4,4’-thiodibenzoyl chloride (T-DC) and 4,4’-bis(4-chloroformylphenylthio)benzene (BPB-DC) with different sulfur content were prepared and reacted with bisphenol through interfacial reaction. These four kinds of aromatic polyesters were found to have excellent thermal and mechanical properties. Their glass transition temperatures (Tg) were in the range of 161.2–216.9 °C, the initial degradation temperatures (Td) was up to 400–454 °C and tensile strengths of 68.9–114.9 MPa. Additionally, these aromatic polyesters present good optical transmittance within the range of 81.19–84.54% at 450 nm. More importantly, all polyesters exhibited outstanding flame retardant properties. The limiting oxygen indexes (LOIs) were ranged from 30 to 39 and UL-94 V-0 rating can be reached via this approach. In summary, the comprehensive performance of the four designed polyesters surpassed the traditional aromatic ones such as U-100.  相似文献

Two series of melt‐processable polyimides were prepared from 4,4′‐bis(3‐amino‐5‐trifluoromethylphenoxy)biphenyl (m‐6FBAB) and 4,4′‐bis(4‐amino‐5‐trifluoromethylphenoxy) biphenyl (p‐6FBAB) with various aromatic dianhydrides. The effects of the chemical structures of the polyimides on their properties, especially the melt processability and organic solubility, were investigated. The experimental results demonstrate that some of the fluorinated aromatic polyimides showed good melt processability at elevated temperatures (250–360°C) with relatively low melt viscosities and could be melt‐molded to produce strong and tough polyimide sheets. Meanwhile, the polyimides showed excellent organic solubility in both polar aprotic solvents and common solvents to give stable polyimide solutions with high polymer concentrations and relatively low viscosities. Thus, we prepared high‐quality polyimide films by casting the polyimide solutions on glass plates followed by baking at relatively low temperatures. The polyimides derived from m‐6FBAB showed better melt processability and solubility than the p‐6FBAB based polymers. The melt‐processable polyimides showed a good combination of thermal stability and mechanical properties, with decomposition temperatures of 547–597°C, glass‐transition temperatures in the range 205–264°C, tensile strengths of 81.3–104.9 MPa, and elongations at break as high as 19.6%. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
