Highly purified rice protein isolates (RPI) were prepared by an alkaline extraction–acid precipitation method (E-RPI) and by an α-amylase treatment to remove starch (T-RPI). Biological values of these RPI were significantly lower than that of casein. Serum cholesterol concentrations were compared among groups of rats fed (per kg diet) 200, 300 or 400 g E-RPI, 400 g T-RPI, 250 or 400 g casein kg−1 or 400 g soya bean protein isolate (SPI). With all the diets containing 400 g protein kg−1 diet, growth rates of rats were the same. At this level, E-RPI, T-RPI and SPI diets produced significantly lower serum cholesterol concentrations than the casein diet. Faecal bile acid plus neutral steroid excre-tion was significantly higher in rats fed the 400 g kg−1 T-RPI or 400 g kg−1 SPIdiets compared with rats fed the 400 g kg−1 casein diet. On the other hand, the 400 g kg−1 E-RPI diet did not increase steroid excretion. Plasma cholesterol concentrations in rats fed diets with amino acid mixtures simulating SPI and E-RPI were also significantly lower than that of rats fed the diet with an amino acid mixture simulating casein even though the faecal excretions of total bile acids were the same amongst groups. These results support the view that RPI are hypocholesterolaemic relative to casein and at least the hypocholesterolaemic effects of E-RPI would be independent of interruption of the enterohepatic circulation of endogenous steroids.  相似文献

The effect of native and defatted leaf protein concentrate (LPC) from red clover on plasma cholesterol level in rats was studied. Fat-free casein was used as a control protein. The native LPC contained 212 g kg?1 of ether extract and oleic acid (C18: 1) was its main fatty acid. LPC protein was relatively poor in sulphur-containing amino acids. Each protein studied was given to rats with or without soya bean oil. It was found that total cholesterol level in plasma of rats fed with the oil-containing diets was higher than that of rats fed with the oil-free diets. Original fat present in the native LPC though rich in unsaturated fatty acids had no hypocholesterolaemic effect. LPC was hypocholesterolaemic compared with casein in diets not containing added soya bean oil, although the difference did not reach statistical significance.  相似文献

In the Thomas–Mitchell method for the assessment of protein quality, metabolic faecal nitrogen (MFN) and endogenous urinary nitrogen (EUN) are used to adjust faecal and urinary N excretion on test diets so that true digestibility (TD) and biological value (BV) can be calculated. Using an experimental technique where the urine and faeces from young growing rats were collected every 2 days for an experimental period of 28 days, trends in the estimation of MFN and in the determination of TD and BV were examined. A diet containing 20 g egg albumen kg?1 on an as fed basis (2.85 g N kg?1 dry matter) has previously been found to be most applicable for the estimation of EUN. This diet was also found to be appropriate for the estimation of MFN. To examine the effect of a change from an ad libitum intake of a stock diet (containing 150 g protein kg?1) to the restricted intake of a test diet (containing 80–100 g protein kg?1) on the determination of TD and BV, three protein sources (egg albumen, casein+1% L -methionine and soya bean meal) were fed at two levels of intake: 9 and 15 g day?1. The time taken for the faecal N excretion to stablilise was very similar with all diets at both levels of intake. The TD of all three protein sources at both levels of intake increased gradually with increasing lengths of preliminary period. However, this increase was not great, and had little effect on the determination of the BV. Stabilisation of urinary N excretion with the three diets depended on the quality of the protein and the amount fed. This led to variation in BV with lengthening preliminary periods, especially at the lower level of intake. Urinary N excretion, and consequently BV, stabilised most rapidly with the highest quality protein (egg albumen) at the highest level of intake. However, stabilisation of BV with the lowest quality protein (soya bean meal) did not occur until after a preliminary period of 12 days, even at 15 g day?1. This preliminary period is considerably longer than that usually employed, and thus it appears that for many proteins the BV may have been assessed during a period before N retention has fully stabilised.  相似文献

Milk production responses to protein supplementation of grass silage diets were investigated in two experiments with dairy cows. In Experiment 1. four cows received a basal diet of grass silage ad libitum plus a barley/soya supplement at 5 kg day?1. The cows received the following treatments in a 4 × 4 Latin square design with 10-day periods: (1) basal diet, (2) basal diet plus 230 g casein day?1 infused into the abomasum; (3) basal diet plus 225 g soya protein isolate (SPI) day?1 into the abomasum; and (4) basal diet plus a dietary addition of 1.2 kg fishmeal-based product (AP) day?1. All three supplements increased (P < 0.05) the yield of milk and milk protein relative to the basal diet, the values being 16.9. 535:18.8. 610; 19.5, 625; and 18.5 kg day?1 and 582 g day?1 for the basal. AP, casein and SPI treatments respectively. Responses to casein were greater (P < 0.05) than to SPI. Changes in the concentrations of amino acids in blood plasma suggested that methionine, tryptophan and phenylalanine were in shortest supply relative to demand, and their potential role as limiting amino acids was investigated in a second experiment. In Experiment 2, four dairy cows were used in a 4 × 4 Latin square design with 10-day periods. The four treatments were (1) a diet of grass silage ad libitum plus 5 kg day?1 of a barley/soya supplement containing 176 g CP kg?1 DM (LP); (2) LP plus an intravenous infusion of 5.0 g methionine, 9.1 g phenylalanine and 2.2 g tryptophan day?1; (3) grass silage ad libitum plus 5 kg day?1 of a barley/soya supplement containing 334 g CP kg?1 DM (HP); and (4) HP plus the intravenous infusion of methionine, phenylalanine and tryptophan. The HP treatment produced a higher yield (P < 0.05) of milk protein than the LP treatment (722 vs. 667 g day?1) but the amino acid infusion had no effect with either treatment. The elimination of methionine, phenylalanine and tryptophan (and, in previous experiments, methionine and lysine) as candidates for limiting amino acids on diets of grass silage plus soya-based supplements questions whether the differences in responses to casein and SPI can be explained in terms of their amino acid compositions. The role of factors such as peplides, producing during digestion, some of which may be biologically active, deserves investigation.  相似文献

Fish waste was ensiled either by acidification with formic acid or by fermentation with a bacterial starter culture and molasses. The resulting liquids were mixed with wheat bran (85:15 w/w liquid: bran) and dried (70°C) to produce acid silage meal (ASM) and fermented silage meal (FSM). ASM and FSM were incorporated into wheat-based diets at 25, 50 and 100 g kg?1 at the expense of soya bean meal. There were two control diets, one which contained soya bean meal as the predominant protein supplement and a second in which fish meal (50 g kg?1) was added at the expense of some of the soya bean meal. Starter diets (13.25 MJ ME kg?1, 12 g kg?1 lysine) were fed from 1-day-old to 21-days-old and finisher diets (13.25 MJ ME kg?1, 9.5 g kg?1 lysine) were fed from 22 to 42-days-old to six replicates each of five birds. Birds were reared in raised-wire cages, and feed intake, liveweight and mortality were recorded. There were no significant effects of dietary inclusion of either ASM and FSM on the performance of broiler chickens relative to those fed on control diets. FSM contained less crude protein and amino acids than ASM. The recovery of amino acids relative to the total crude protein content from FSM was only 78.7%, presumably as a result of formation of Maillard reaction products during drying.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: In vivo investigations were made of the effect of defatted dried roselle seed powder (DRS) on the lipid profiles of rats with induced hypercholesterolemia. The two‐batch sample consisted of 23 and 20 Sprague‐Dawley male rats randomly divided into four groups and fed with four different diets. The first batch of rats was fed with normal, hypercholesterol, hypercholesterol + 10 g kg?1 (w/w) DRS and hypercholesterol + 20 g kg?1 (w/w) DRS diets. The second batch of rats was fed with normal, hypercholesterol, hypercholesterol + 50 g kg?1 (w/w) DRS and hypercholesterol + 150 g kg?1 (w/w) DRS diets. Treatments were given for a total of 5 weeks. RESULTS: Results indicated that the addition of 10 g kg?1 and 20 g kg?1 of DRS did not significantly lower the plasma total cholesterol (TC) levels. In contrast, 50 g kg?1 and 150g kg?1 DRS significantly lowered (P < 0.05) the TC and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL‐C) levels. CONCLUSION: The addition of 50 g kg?1 and 150 g kg?1 DRS showed potential hypocholesterolemic effects. Furthermore, these findings indicated that protein, lipid and dietary fibre were high in the seed powder. Copyright © 2008 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the feeding value of yellow-, green- and brown-seeded peas as protein and energy supplements in laying hen diets. In experiment 1, all three types of peas were included in laying hen diets at 0, 200, 400 and 600 g kg-1 replacing wheat and soya bean meal. Layers fed diets containing peas at 200 g kg-1 produced more (P⩽0·05) eggs, had higher (P⩽0·05) egg mass output and better (P⩽0·01) feed conversion than those fed the wheat soya bean meal control diet. With 400 g peas kg-1 in diets, egg production, egg mass and feed conversion were similar (P⩾0·05) to the control diet. Total replacement of soya bean meal with peas (600 g peas kg-1 in diets) reduced (P⩽0·01) egg production, egg mass and feed conversion. A progressive (P⩽0·01) improvement in yolk colour as the level of peas in the diet increased was observed. Shell quality decreased (P⩽0·05) with increasing levels of yellow or brown peas in the diets, however, it seemed not to be affected by green peas. Daily feed intake, egg weight and mortality rates were not affected by dietary treatments. The influence of feeding diets containing yellow or brown peas supplemented with varied levels of methionine on production performance of laying hens was investigated in experiment 2. The dietary treatments consisted of a 400 g kg-1 yellow or brown pea diet supplemented with three levels of methionine to 100, 115 and 130% of the NRC requirements. Methionine supplementation to either 15 or 30% above NRC requirement for laying hens had no significant (P⩾0·05) effect on all production parameters. It can be concluded that the inclusion of yellow, green or brown peas into laying hen diets up to 400 g kg-1 does not affect production performance. The NRC recommendation of methionine requirement for laying hens is adequate to support maximum egg production for diets containing moderate quantities of peas. © 1997 SCI.  相似文献

The nutritive value of transgenic lupin seeds (Lupinus angustifolius L) with higher contents of methionine was evaluated with broiler chickens. The crude protein, methionine and cysteine contents in the conventional and transgenic lupins were 322 and 324, 2.0 and 4.5, and 3.6 and 3.7 g kg?1 dry matter respectively. In the feeding trial, conventional and transgenic lupins with hulls were incorporated into a maize–soyabean meal diet at 250 g kg?1 level and the diets were fed to female broiler chicks from 6 to 20 days of age. All diets were balanced to contain similar levels of apparent metabolisable energy (AME), lysine and sulphur‐containing amino acids. The levels of free methionine added to the maize–soyabean meal control, conventional lupin and transgenic lupin diets were 2.2, 2.8 and 2.2 g kg?1 respectively. Weight gain and feed intake were not influenced by dietary treatments, but feed/gain tended to be higher (P = 0.09) in birds fed lupin diets compared with those fed the control diet. Feed/gain of birds fed the conventional lupin diet was higher (1.82 vs 1.74) than for those fed the transgenic lupin diet. These results showed that the supplemental methionine required in poultry diets containing 250 g kg?1 lupin can be lowered by 0.6 g kg?1 diet by the use of high‐methionine lupins. The AME values of conventional and transgenic lupins were determined to be 9.42 and 10.18 MJ kg?1 dry matter respectively. The higher AME value in transgenic lupins may be related to the lower content of soluble non‐starch polysaccharides (45.6 vs 60.7 g kg?1 air‐dry basis). Data on ileal amino acid digestibility indicate that the amino acids in transgenic lupins are as digestible as those in conventional lupins. © 2002 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

In a series of 10-day pair feeding experiments it was found that the nutritional value of diets containing beans was essentially the same for rats aged between 30 and 123 days. Thus net protein utilisation (NPU) values of 25–39 on diets containing Processor bean (35 g protein kg?1) + egg albumin (65g protein kg?1) were obtained. As food intakes were considerably reduced when rats were fed diets containing more than 35g protein kg?1 of Processor bean, the measurement of protein utilisation became increasingly more difficult. The severe disruption of the brush borders of duodenal and jejunal enterocytes, originally observed when bean-containing diets were fed to young (30-day-old) rats was also found with rats up to the age of 120 days on similar diets. Similarly, the development of circulating anti-lectin antibodies in the animals showed no age dependence within the age limits investigated. It was also shown that oral immunisation did not protect the rats from the effects of toxicity and that the immune response was a result of continuous absorption of lectin throughout the feeding period. Thus the extent and the mechanism of toxicity of Phaseolus vulgaris bean lectins were found not to be dependent on the age or maturity of the animal.  相似文献

Amaranthus cruentus vegetable meal (ACVM) had 23% crude protein. Ca, Na, K, Mg and Fe were abundant at 2.0 g kg?1, 7.1 g kg?1, 4.8 g kg?1, 2.5 g kg?1, 1109 mg kg?1, respectively. P‐phosporous, oxalates and tannins were noticeable. Lysine, methionine and cystine were limiting. Weight gain for rats on the reference (casein) diet 2 at 6.30 g ±2.87 was highest (P < 0.05) followed by diet 6 (12% ACVM with enzyme supplementation) at 5.01 g ±2.42. Feed intakes were similar (P > 0.05) for rats on the reference diet and for rats on 10% and 12% with/without enzyme supplementation ranging from 42.90 g ± 4.52 in reference diet to 45.12 g ± 3.64. Nitrogen retention was highest for rats on reference diet but similar (P > 0.05) to rats on 12% enzyme supplemented diet at 0.53 ± 1.12 and 0.53 ± 2.10, respectively. Other investigated protein evaluation parameters revealed similar results among rats kept on reference diet and the rats on ACVM based diets with enzyme supplementations. Enzyme supplementation had a complimentary role in ACVM nutrition in rat trial.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: This study was carried out to determine the nutritive quality of protein from Clanis bilineata (CB), an edible insect. RESULTS: The protein content of dried CB was 685.3 g kg?1 and its essential amino acid content was 528.4 g kg?1, both of which are comparable to those of milk and eggs. Three groups of rats were fed diets containing either casein or CB protein (CBP) as protein source or a protein‐free diet for 10 days. The nutritional parameters measured for the group fed the diet containing CBP showed a positive nitrogen balance of 1.37, a net protein retention of 2.9 and a true digestibility of 95.8%, comparable to those measured for the group fed the casein diet. CONCLUSION: The results suggest that CBP may be a suitable alternative dietary protein source for humans. Copyright © 2011 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

BACKGROUND: This study was carried out to estimate basal ileal endogenous crude protein (CP) and amino acid (AA) losses (IAALB) in newly weaned pigs by regression analysis from apparent ileal digestible and the corresponding total dietary contents of CP and AA in order to obtain standardised ileal digestibilities (SID) of CP and AA originating from casein. A total of fourteen 3‐week‐old barrows were fitted with simple T cannulas at the distal ileum and were fed six diets with two pigs per diet in 4 weekly repeated measurements. Corn starch‐based diets containing six graded levels of CP from casein with 90, 155, 220, 285, 350 and 415 g kg?1 CP (as‐fed basis) were formulated. RESULTS: Linear relationships (P < 0.001) between apparent ileal digestible and total dietary contents of CP and AA (g kg?1 dry matter intake (DMI)) exist for CP and all AA in the range of 90–220 g kg?1 CP content in the diet. The IAALB extrapolated from the range of 90–220 g kg?1 CP content are different from zero (P < 0.001 to P = 0.019) except for tryptophan (P = 0.220). Based on regression analysis in the range of 90–220 g kg?1 CP, estimates of IAALB, expressed as g kg?1 DMI, and SID of CP and AA in casein (in parentheses, %) were as follows: CP 9.3 (98.0); arginine 0.4 (98.9); histidine 0.2 (98.5); isoleucine 0.2 (98.1); leucine 0.5 (99.2); lysine 0.4 (99.0); methionine 0.1 (99.1); phenylalanine 0.4 (99.9); threonine 0.6 (97.8); tryptophan 0.1 (96.2); valine 0.4 (98.5). CONCLUSION: The IAALB and SID of CP and AA originating from casein in newly weaned pigs are in close agreement with values obtained in grower finisher pigs. The chemical composition and protein quality of the kernels from Lupinus angustifolius seeds were compared with that for sprouts after 6 days germination. Germination resulted in an apparent increase in protein content from 395 g kg?1 to 435 g kg?1 DM. Fat and carbohydrate contents decreased. The oligosaccharide content of the sprouted lupin fell to a negligible level, while the phytate and alkaloid concentrations fell from 4.7 g kg?1 to 1.6 g kg?1 and from 0.72 g kg?1 to 0.16 g kg?1, respectively. The quality of lupin kernel protein was poor with a protein efficiency ratio (PER) of 1.45±0.15. Supplementation of kernel with DL-methionine (2.0 g kg?1) increased the protein quality (PER = 2.87±0.17) to that of casein (PER = 2.86±0.18). Germination reduced protein quality (PER = 0.44±0.16), and did not improve apparent protein digestibility (APD kernel = 80.4%; APD sprout = 77.5%). Supplementation of sprout protein with DL-methionine (2.0 g kg?1) increased the protein quality (PER = 2.57±0.20). The total sulphur-containing amino acid concentration of lupin kernel protein, 1.9 g per 16 g N was low, and decreased further to 1.3 g per 16 g N in the sprout, a drop of 32%. The results showed that germination of lupin seeds reduced the concentration of the anti-nutritive factors; however, it also reduced protein quality.  相似文献

In experiment 1, 224 pigs (initially 8.85 kg and 28 ± 2 days of age) were used in a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement of treatments to investigate the interaction between lactofeed (LF70) (860 g kg?1 whey permeate, 140 g kg?1 soya bean meal) level (175 g kg?1 and 350 g kg?1) and avilamycin (0 and 40 mg kg?1) inclusion in piglet starter diets. Pigs were fed starter diets from day 0 to day 22 and a transition diet was fed from day 23 to day 39. The inclusion level of LF70 in the transition diet was 75 g kg?1 and 150 g kg?1. Pigs fed 350 g kg?1 LF70 had a higher daily gain (ADG) (p < 0.01) and an improved feed conversion ratio (FCR) (p < 0.05) during the starter period than the pigs fed 175 g kg?1 LF70. Pigs fed medicated diets had a higher ADG (p < 0.05) and an improved FCR (p < 0.05) than the non‐medicated fed pigs during the starter period. There was an increase in feed intake (AFI) (p < 0.05) during the transition period with increasing levels of LF70. There was an improvement in FCR during the transition period with the inclusion of avilamycin (p < 0.01). There was a significant interaction (p < 0.01) between LF70 and avilamycin for ADG during the transition period. The inclusion of avilamycin at 175 g kg?1 LF70 inclusion had no effect (p > 0.05) on ADG. However at 350 g kg?1 LF70 inclusion the pigs offered medicated diets had a higher ADG (p < 0.001) compared with non‐medicated diets. In experiment 2, 224 pigs (initially 8.85 kg and 28 ± 2 days of age) were used in a 2 × 2 factorial to investigate the interaction between LF70 level (175 g kg?1 and 350 g kg?1) and zinc oxide (ZnO) (0 and 3.1 g kg?1) inclusion in piglet starter diets. The inclusion level of LF70 in the transition diet was 75 g kg?1 and 150 g kg?1 and of ZnO was 2 g kg?1. There was a significant increase (p < 0.05) in ADG with increasing levels of LF70 during the starter period. The inclusion of ZnO during the starter period resulted in an increase in ADG (p < 0.001) and FCR (p < 0.05) compared with no ZnO inclusion. Neither the inclusion of zinc oxide not of LF70 had an effect (p > 0.05) on performance during the transition period. In conclusion the supplementation of starter diets with increasing levels of LF70, ZnO and avilamycin resulted in increased ADG and improved FCR. BACKGROUND: African breadfruit, from which diverse food forms are produced, is popular in most West African tropical regions. The present study is part of a larger research project aimed at developing appealing, processed, nutritious products from blends of breadfruit, corn and defatted soybean by utilising extrusion cooking using response surface analysis. The study describes the ability or otherwise of raw and extruded African breadfruit‐based diets, similar to weaning diets simulated with rats, to support growth of children and infants. RESULTS: Maximum protein efficiency and net protein ratios of 2.22 and 3.69, respectively, were obtained with rats fed diets made from 40 g 100 g?1 African breadfruit + 5 g 100 g?1 corn + 55 g 100 g?1 soybean extrudates at 18 mL 100 mL?1 feed moisture and 140 rpm screw speed. It compared favourably with a casein standard and was 54–69% and 42–55% higher than those fed raw diets. CONCLUSION: Extrusion cooking significantly improved the nutritional quality of African breadfruit–corn–defatted soybean as reflected in their protein efficiency and net protein values. The superiority in protein quality of diet 1 (containing 40 g 100 g?1 breadfruit, 5 g 100 g?1 corn and 55 g 100 g?1 defatted soybean) over the other experimental diets has serious nutritional implication in dietary diversification to address protein‐energy malnutrition prevalent in Nigeria and other West African countries especially where African breadfruit is known to be highly cultivated as a food resource. The peach palm (Bactris gasipaes Kunth) is the starchy fruit of a palm tree widely cultivated in Central and South America. The present study aimed at determining its chemical composition and its nutritive value in rats. The average chemical composition of 17 samples was as follows: 410 g kg?1 water and, in g kg?1 of dry matter (DM), 54 g crude protein, 114 g oil, 39 g neutral detergent fibre, 716 g starch, 21 g sugars and 18 g ash. The main variability was observed for the oil (60–180 g kg?1 DM) and starch (590–780 g DM) contents. The proteins contained, on average, in g kg?1 of proteins, 49 g lysine, 13 g methionine, 19 g cysteine, 39 g threonine and 7 g tryptophan. The mineral fraction contained, per kg DM: 1.0 g Ca, 0.8 g P, 0.6 g Mg, 0.3 g Na, 44 mg Fe, 4 mg Cu and 10 mg Zn. The digestibility of four peach palm genotypes was determined in rats fed a diet composed of 350 g kg?1 of peach palm and 650 g of a control diet based on maize and soybean meal. The digestibility of DM, energy, starch and protein of peach palm alone reached, on average 91, 87, 96 and 95%, respectively. No difference was observed between varieties, except for starch (p < 0.05). On average, peach palm contained 51 g of truly digestible protein kg?1 DM and 3.691 kcal digestible energy kg?1 DM. A growth trial was also carried out for 1 month on rats (initial weight: 78 g) fed a diet containing 0, 200, 400, 600 or 800 g peach palm kg?1, at the expense of a diet composed of maize starch and casein. The growth rate of the rats decreased (p < 0.05) as the peach palm concentration increased. The growth decrease was due to a decrease (p < 0.05) in DM intake and to the lower quality of the peach palm protein. It is concluded that peach palm is mainly an energy source for humans and animals. It is poor in protein and minerals but can be consumed in large amounts. Five castrated male Iberian pigs (100 ± 2 kg body weight) fitted with T‐shaped cannulas at the terminal ileum were used to determine ileal digestibility of legume seed meals. The diets were based on defatted soybean, lupin or chickpea seed meals and contained similar levels of digestible energy (14.2–15.1 kJ g?1) and protein (107 g kg?1). Protein‐free and a hydrolysed casein diets were used to study endogenous ileal amino acid flows. Chromium oxide (10 g kg?1 diet) was added to the diets as an indigestible marker. Ileal flows in pigs fed the hydrolysed casein diet were different (p < 0.05) in amino acid contents and composition from those on the protein‐free diet. Ileal sialic acid flows in pigs fed lupin‐ or chickpea‐based diets were higher (p < 0.05) than those of animals fed soybean or casein diets. Among essential amino acids, only the apparent ileal digestibilities of phenylalanine and valine in lupin meal were lower (p < 0.05) than those in soybean. Apparent ileal digestibilities of lupin aspartate and proline, together with chickpea aspartate, were also lower (p < 0.05) than those of soybean. True ileal digestibility of nitrogen in pigs fed lupin or chickpea meals, calculated according to values from animals fed the protein‐free diet, was lower (p < 0.05) than that for soybean or casein. Among individual essential amino acids, only the true ileal digestibility of phenylalanine in lupin was lower (p < 0.05) than that in soybean. True ileal digestibility of nitrogen calculated according to values obtained with pigs fed a hydrolysed casein diet was not different among soybean, lupin or chickpea meals. Among essential amino acids, only the true ileal digestibilities of isoleucine and lysine in chickpea were lower (p < 0.05) than those of soybean. It is concluded that true ileal nitrogen and amino acid digestibilities of lupin and chickpea meals are comparable to those of defatted soybean in Iberian pigs. The results with protein‐free diets tended to underestimate endogenous protein secretion in pigs fed on diets containing protein. Copyright © 2005 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Four multiparous ruminally canulated cows and four primiparous cows without a ruminal cannula were used in a 4 × 4 Latin square experiment to study the effect of dietary fat source on milk fatty acid composition. Cows were fed a diet containing 550 g lucerne silage and 450 g concentrate kg?1 dietary DM. The four diets were control and fat supplementation (32 g fat kg?1 diet DM) as roasted soya beans, calcium salts of palm oil fatty acids (Megalac®). or hydrogenated tallow (Alifet®). Cows fed supplemental fat as roasted soya beans. Megalac®. or Alifet® produced 33.8, 32.6, and 32.5 kg day?1 of 3.5% FCM. respectively, compared with 31.6 kg day?1 with no fat supplementation. Addition of fat decreased milk protein percentage. Milk fat percentage was increased with Megalac® and decreased with Alifet® feeding. Dietary fat decreased the proportion of short- and medium-chain fatty acids (C6-C14:0) in milk and increased the proportion of long-chain fatty acids (C16 : 0 and longer). Roasted soya beans were most effective in reducing C16 : 0 and increasing C18 : 1, C18 : 2 and C18 : 3 acids in milk fat. Megalac® did not decrease milk C16 : 0 content, and neither Megalac® nor Alifet® affected C18 : 2 content.  相似文献

Two feeding trials were conducted to evaluate cassava leaf meal (CLM) as a replacement for coconut oil meal (COM) in tropical pig diets. In each trial, 36 pigs (initial weight, 14.5 kg) were limit fed diets containing 0, 133, 267 and 400 g kg?1 CLM substituted for equal amounts (w/w) of COM in a 179 g kg?1 protein basal diet. An extra-period Latin-square changeover design with 2-week periods was used. Average daily gain and feed efficiency were improved when diets containing 133 g kg?1 CLM were fed, which may be attributed to the higher lysine content of CLM. Daily gain and feed efficiency of pigs fed diets containing 267 g kg?1 CLM were similar to those on the basal diet. Poor performance of pigs fed the 400 g kg?1 CLM diets may be explained by the low energy content and the presence of anti-nutritional factors, such as cyanide and tannin, in CLM. Two balance trials were conducted using 16 barrows (castrated male pigs, initial weight, 37.2 kg). Apparent digestibility coefficients for dry matter, energy, protein, cell contents, cell wall and hemicellulose were depressed, whereas those for ash and lignin were improved as CLM was substituted for COM. The data indicate that cassava leaf protein is utilised efficiently, although other nutrients in CLM are not as digestible as those in COM.  相似文献

Three lactating Holstein cows with rumen cannulae were used in a 3 X 3 Latin square arrangement of treatments to study effects of methionine source on ciliated protozoa numbers and volatile fatty acid concentrations in the rumen. Cows were fed total mixed diets twice daily of 60% grain mix, 21% corn silage, and 19% alfalfa hay (dry basis). Methionine hydroxy analog, DL-methione, and sodium sulfate were added on an equal sulfur basis. Experimental periods were 14 d with four rumen samples taken daily on d 13 and 14. Total ciliated protozoa were higher when cows were fed DL-methionine than when fed methionine hydroxy analog or sodium sulfate. Ruminal concentrations of butyric acid and isobutyric acid were higher for the DL-methionine treatment than for analog or sodium sulfate treatments. Isovaleric acid concentrations were also higher in fluid from cows fed methionine compared with cows fed the analog.  相似文献
