The perceived impacts of information technology use on firm marketing organization performance are examined. A theoretical model is presented linking organizational and end-user traits, information quality, system/service quality, industry traits, and tasks performed using a system to perceptions of organizational performance impacts through ease of system use, perceived individual performance impacts (i.e. perceived usefulness), attitudes toward using the system, and system use. The empirical examination uses a mail survey of US marketing executives to collect the data. The quantitative technique used is structural equation modeling. The results indicate that measures of organizational traits, individual traits, information quality, system/service quality, and tasks performed using the system impact perceived performance of the marketing organization mediated individual performance impacts (i.e. perceived usefulness), attitudes toward using the system, and system use. Managerial implications and conclusions are presented based upon these results.  相似文献

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of Supply Chain Information Integration (SCII) on the Operational Performance of manufacturing firms in Malaysia considering the role of information leakage.Design/methodology/approachTo test the model developed, we conducted an online questionnaire survey with Malaysian manufacturing companies drawn from the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers directory of 2018. Out of the 400 questionnaires sent out to the manufacturing companies, 144 useable responses were received giving a response rate of 36 %. The data were analyzed using SmartPLS, a second-generation statistical tool.FindingsThe findings of this study showed that information quality, information security, and information technology (IT) had a positive effect on SCII with an explanatory power of 47.2 % while SCII, in turn, had a positive effect on operational performance explaining 17% of the variance. Intentional information leakage (IIL) moderated the relationship between SCII and operational performance, whereas accidental information leakage did not moderate the same relationship.Practical implicationsThis study provides insights into difficulties faced when implementing SCII, particularly by medium and large manufacturing companies in Malaysia. It helps identify appropriate strategies that can guide the management in its effort to improve performance by SCII.Originality/valueThis research is arguably the first study that simultaneously investigates the effect of information quality, IT, and information security on SCII and the moderating effect of information leakage on the relationships between SCII and operational performance. The results of this study indicate that information security has the largest impact on SCII, followed by IT, and information quality. Furthermore, IIL as a negative aspect of information integration may deprive the strength of the relationship between SCII and operational performance.  相似文献

Corporate acquisitions have become key elements in strategic planning for many companies. Historically, analysts of corporate acquisitions have emphasized strategic and organizational factors in evaluating candidates for friendly takeovers. Since company data and information technology (IT) are as much a management resource as are the financial and human resources for the combined firm, the authors propose that IT fit should be explicitly considered in analysis of corporate acquisitions. An assessment of IT fit will refer to the IT environments of the two joining firms, the IT contribution each firm can bring to the combined firm, and the role that IT should play both in negotiating the acquisition price and in integrating the joining firms.  相似文献

Information technology (IT) may not automatically improve firm profitability. It is an essential tool, but not sufficient in itself, and should therefore be coupled with organisational factors such as business strategies. A firm can maximise the value from its IT investments by aligning them with business strategies because IT improves scope economies and coordination. This paper examines empirically the contribution of IT to financial performance as measured by net profit, ROA, and ROE by focusing on the alignment of IT with business strategies such as vertical disintegration and diversification. Empirical analysis shows that IT does not directly improve financial performance. In conjunction with vertical disintegration and diversification, however, it does improve financial performance as measured by net profit. Financial performance ratios such as ROA and ROE, however, are not correlated with the alignment (or interaction) factor of IT with vertical disintegration and diversification. The results indicate that increased IT spending improves net profit, but not performance ratios such as ROA and ROE, of firms with decreased vertical integration and higher diversification.  相似文献

The paper aims to investigate the effects of information technology (IT) alignment and information sharing on operational performance in the context of supply chain. Based on the resource-based view, this study identifies IT alignment and information sharing as specific resources/capabilities for supply chain partnership. Data from 141 Chinese manufacturers are collected to test the relationships among IT alignment, information sharing, and operational performance. The results show that (1) both IT alignment and information sharing have direct and positive effects on operational performance, (2) IT alignment has an indirect effect on operational performance through information sharing, and (3) IT alignment and information sharing have different emphases in operational performance improvement. The resource-capability-performance paradigm is extended to supply chain context in the emerging economy. Chinese managers may have different emphases on IT resource/information sharing capability deployment for operational efficiency and effectiveness.  相似文献

A critical issue facing senior executives is how to improve the return on their information technology (IT) investments. The results of numerous studies are inconclusive as they have failed to show conclusively that IT investments produce expected payoffs. The purpose of this paper is to offer an explanation for the perceived lack of IT payoff and show how managers can improve the return on their IT investments. We argue that IT can provide significant benefits, but in many cases these benefits are not captured by the firm that made the investment. Instead, a large portion of the benefits are reaped by a variety of participants or stakeholders. The implications of this for managers is that they need to view IT payoff as a portfolio of benefits across many stakeholders. They must also understand and manage the distribution of the benefits within the portfolio to assure that benefits are transferred to the bottom line. The paper offers a framework for analyzing the nature and distribution of IT benefits among various stakeholder groups and concludes with a set of guidelines for measuring and managing these benefits.  相似文献

While studies have shown the effect of context on IS planning as important, the incorporation of contextual factors has not been systematic and the categorization of factors has not been made explicit and some factors have only been superficially examined. My study examined the interrelationships amongst four domains of context and considered their influence on IS planning. The corresponding impact of planning on performance was also assessed. Data was collected from 116 South African companies and results revealed that the internal IS context mediated the effects of environmental and organisational level variables on IS planning practice. Results further showed that IS planning intensity and degree of integration with business planning was strongly influenced by managerial planning expertise, and had positive effects on business management's commitment to IS as well as on IS contribution to business performance. Results have important implications in organisational IS planning and performance.  相似文献

Business, not technology leaders should manage the change of Information Technology (IT) from a self-contained business support unit of the sixties to a distributed strategic business function of the nineties. Top management should recognize that a good business plan can only be developed and executed through the partnership between the business unit managers and the managers of the financial, the personnel, and the IT resource units. The literature of the past three decades has not provided a consistent picture of payback for IT investment. Firm strategies and infrastructure play a part in determining return on investment and, in recent years, chief information officer (CIO) characteristics have been cited as essential factors in ensuring economic returns for IT investment. In our study we related CIO background and attitude toward IT investment to the objective measures of a firm's performance. The financial measures tended to be higher when the CIO was from IT rather than general management, however, an IT manager in a firm that had a strategic orientation to IT rather than a utilitarian one was more likely to have higher financial performance. Thus, although a CIO should have a technological background, the CIO who has a strategic rather than utilitarian orientation is more likely to help in forming a highly profitable company.  相似文献

Using the Coordination Theory, we explored the impact of electronic integration of intra-organizational and inter-organizational business processes on organizational performance in terms of logistics cost and service improvements. Our work extends knowledge on adoption of information technology (IT) in logistics operations, with a focus on examining the performance implications of electronic integration within and between firms in a supply chain. Data was collected from 227 trading firms in Hong Kong and analyzed to investigate the research issues. Our empirical findings revealed that electronic integration is positively associated with logistics performance in cost but not in service, suggesting that electronic integration is not sufficient for delivering superior logistics services. Theoretical and practical implications of our results are discussed.  相似文献

Most previous studies of the impact of information technology (IT) on firm performance have relied on the Cobb–Douglas production function, which makes unrealistic assumptions. These include assuming that (1) the scale elasticity, i.e. returns to scale, is constant throughout the entire output range; (2) the elasticity of substitution between inputs is one, whereas it can be anywhere from zero to infinity in practice; and (3) there are no complex interrelationships between inputs, i.e. no squared or product terms. The translog production function (used in two previous studies) does not make these assumptions and is therefore more accurate. However, the two previous studies found no significant difference between the two. This research has extended previous work on the impact of IT investments by providing more accurate results in some areas and new findings in others. IT's importance is shown to be much greater than previously thought. The translog function is used to demonstrate that the productivity paradox does not hold (i.e. both IT labor and capital indeed have a significant impact on firm revenues), but with considerably different results, i.e. the impact of IT is markedly more significant than that obtained from the Cobb–Douglas. Another interesting finding is that of scale elasticity. Our results show that this is less than 1, implying decreasing returns to scale of output. Finally, the substitutability between inputs was determined, which is not possible with the Cobb–Douglas. It was found that the partial elasticities of substitution for IT labor with IT capital and non-IT labor were quite substantial.  相似文献

Increasingly, customer companies hire external information technology (IT) consultants, often on a special project basis. These consultants are employees of professional service firms, although they receive their assignments from the hiring companies, report to them, and are supervised by them. Using semistructured interviews with 12 IT consultants in Sweden, we examine the factors that influence their work motivation, including the effect of this dual allegiance—to the service firm and to the customer company. The data indicate that the primary motivators are the variety in tasks and the opportunity to influence and/or manage an entire project. Neither monetary incentives nor the consultancy firm norms are strong motivators. A factor that affects work behavior and motivation is the subordinate identity that IT consultants must assume with their powerful clients. The article concludes with practical suggestions for managers who seek to understand what motivates employees who work at a distance, under external control. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

Using econometric analysis, this study provides empirical evidence to support a cause-and-effect relationship of managerial actions to financial performance in a post-ERP implementation stage. Senior information systems managers reveal the state of affairs, providing a snapshot reference during that time period. Financial figures were collected for firms who were matched to our survey instrument. Regression analysis establishes that increased technological competence affects net sales, relationships with outside experts affect earnings, return-on-assets and return-on-investment, top management support affects net sales and net income, long-range planning negatively affects earnings, and the sharing of information between departments affects net income, return-on-assets and return-on-investments.  相似文献
