A simple and fast numerical procedure is presented for designing spatially symmetric Bragg gratings with no need for iteratively solving the coupled mode equations. Using a unique relation between the phase and the amplitude of the reflection spectra valid for spatially symmetric gratings, the grating spectra are suitably optimized to fit given specifications. At the end of the design process an inverse-scattering algorithm determines the spatial structure of the corresponding Bragg grating. This method is particularly useful for the design of add/drop multiplexers, where symmetry can be a crucial prerequisite. 相似文献

The authors propose and demonstrate an eight-channel reconfigurable bidirectional wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) add-drop multiplexer in which all channels can be added/dropped independently in either direction. The performance of the bidirectional WDM add/drop multiplexer is experimentally studied for a data rate of 10 Gbit/s per channel, providing an overall capacity of 80 Gbit/s. A simple optical add/drop multiplexer (OADM) based on a X-crossing InGaAsP-InP vertical coupler filter is demonstrated. Laterally separated input and output waveguides and the X-crossing arrangement are achieved using wafer bonding. An assembly process including: flip-chip bonding, microelectromechanical (MEMS) structure release, and atomic layer deposition (ALD) is proposed to integrate a surface micromachined optical switch for optical add/drop multiplexer (OADM) applications. In the current optical switch designs, pre-stressed beams were used to pop up the micromirror and an electrode (substrate) under the beams was designed to perform ON/OFF function of the optical switch. In order to achieve desired popped-up angle for precise optical switching, a flip-chip bonding technique is applied to a mechanical stopper with an accurate joint height that can be used to constrain the movement of the micromirror. A conformal thin layer of dielectric material (Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/) coated on the surfaces of device through an ALD coating process is used to improve vertical actuation force, as well as electrical isolation. Experiments indicate that the micromirrors fabricated by the present assembly process can achieve desired angle that meet the requirements of the proposed OADM configuration. 相似文献

A client-configurable optical add/drop multiplexer (OADM) is demonstrated using a micromachined 8×6 matrix switch. The matrix switch can be configured to add/drop any of the eight input channels from/to any of the six add/drop ports. For the switching fabric, the insertion loss is 2~3 dB for the dropped channels and 8~9 dB for the added channels by using the backsides of the micromirror switches. The switching extinction ratio is over 40 dB, the crosstalk between channels is less than -40 dB, and they are equipment-limited in this experiment 相似文献
