The discovery of interesting patterns in relational databases is an important data mining task. This paper is concerned with the development of a search algorithm for first-order hypothesis spaces adopting an important pruning technique (termed subset pruning here) from association rule mining in a first-order setting. The basic search algorithm is extended by so-called requires and excludes constraints allowing to declare prior knowledge about the data, such as mutual exclusion or generalization relationships among attributes, so that it can be exploited for further structuring and restricting the search space. Furthermore, it is illustrated how to process taxonomies and numerical attributes in the search algorithm.Several task settings using different interestingness criteria and search modes with corresponding pruning criteria are described. Three settings serve as test beds for evaluation of the proposed approach. The experimental evaluation shows that the impact of subset pruning is significant, since it reduces the number of hypothesis evaluations in many cases by about 50%. The impact of generalization relationships is shown to be less effective in our experimental set-up.  相似文献

Many studies have shown the limits of the support/confidence framework used in Apriori ‐like algorithms to mine association rules. There are a lot of efficient implementations based on the antimonotony property of the support, but candidate set generation (e.g., frequent item set mining) is still costly. In addition, many rules are uninteresting or redundant and one can miss interesting rules like nuggets. We are thus facing a complexity issue and a quality issue. One solution is to not use frequent itemset mining and to focus as soon as possible on interesting rules using additional interestingness measures. We present here a formal framework that allows us to make a link between analytic and algorithmic properties of interestingness measures. We introduce the notion of optimonotony in relation with the optimal rule discovery framework. We then demonstrate a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of optimonotony. This result can thus be applied to classify the measures. We study the case of 39 classical measures and show that 31 of them are optimonotone. These optimonotone measures can thus be used with an underlying pruning strategy. Empirical evaluations show that the pruning strategy is efficient and leads to the discovery of nuggets using an optimonotone measure and without the support constraint.  相似文献

Frequent episode discovery is a popular framework for temporal pattern discovery in event streams. An episode is a partially ordered set of nodes with each node associated with an event type. Currently algorithms exist for episode discovery only when the associated partial order is total order (serial episode) or trivial (parallel episode). In this paper, we propose efficient algorithms for discovering frequent episodes with unrestricted partial orders when the associated event-types are unique. These algorithms can be easily specialized to discover only serial or parallel episodes. Also, the algorithms are flexible enough to be specialized for mining in the space of certain interesting subclasses of partial orders. We point out that frequency alone is not a sufficient measure of interestingness in the context of partial order mining. We propose a new interestingness measure for episodes with unrestricted partial orders which, when used along with frequency, results in an efficient scheme of data mining. Simulations are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of our algorithms.  相似文献

兴趣度量在关联规则挖掘中常用来发现那些潜在的令人感兴趣的模式,基于FP树结构的FP-growth算法是目前较高效的关联规则挖掘算法之一,如果挖掘潜在的有价值的低支持度模式,这种算法效率较低。为此,本文提出一种新的兴趣度量—项项正相关兴趣度量,该量度具有良好的反单调性,所得到的模式中任意一项在事务中的出现均可提升模式中其余项出现的可能性。同时,提出一种改进的FP挖掘算法,该算法采用一种压缩的FP树结构,并利用非递归调用方法来减少挖掘中建立额外条件模式树的开销。更为重要的是,在频繁项集挖掘中引入项项正相关兴趣度量剪枝策略,有效过滤掉非正相关长模式和无效项集,扩大了可挖掘支持度阈值范围。实验结果表明,该算法是有效和可行的。  相似文献

High-utility itemset mining is a prominent data-mining technique where the profit or weight of itemsets plays a crucial role in defining meaningful patterns. High average-utility itemset (HAUI) mining is an advancement over high-utility itemset mining, which introduces an unbiased measure called average utility to associate the utility of itemsets with their length. Several existing HAUI mining algorithms use various upper bounds such as average-utility upper bound, revised tighter upper bound, and looser upper bound to preserve pruning methods. However, these upper bounds overestimate the average-utility of itemsets and slow down the mining process. This paper presents a fast high average-utility itemset miner (FHAIM) algorithm, which uses two improved upper bounds and several efficient pruning strategies to avoid the processing of unpromising candidate itemsets. Moreover, a novel list structure named recommended average-utility list (RAUL) is presented to store the average-utility and the required information for pruning. The RAUL for an itemset can be constructed by joining the RAULs of its subsets to avoid excessive database scans. We have performed substantial experiments on various benchmark datasets to evaluate the performance of the FHAIM in comparison with two existing HAUI mining algorithms. Experimental results show that FHAIM outperforms the existing HAUI mining algorithms in terms of runtime, memory usage, join counts, and scalability.

很多频繁子图挖掘算法已被提出.然而,这些算法产生的频繁子图数量太多而不能被用户有效地利用.为此,提出了一个新的研究问题:挖掘图数据库中的频繁跳跃模式.挖掘频繁跳跃模式既可以大幅度地减少输出模式的数量,又能使有意义的图模式保留在挖掘结果中.此外,跳跃模式还具有抗噪声干扰能力强等优点.然而,由于跳跃模式不具有反单调性质,挖掘它们非常具有挑战性.通过研究跳跃模式自身的特性,提出了两种新的裁剪技术:基于内扩展的裁剪和基于外扩展的裁剪.在此基础上又给出了一种高效的挖掘算法GraphJP(an algorithm for mining jump patterns from graph databases).另外,还严格证明了裁剪技术和算法GraphJP的正确性.实验结果表明,所提出的裁剪技术能够有效地裁剪图模式搜索空间,算法GraphJP是高效、可扩展的.  相似文献

Discovering association rules is one of the most important task in data mining. Many efficient algorithms have been proposed in the literature. The most noticeable are Apriori, Mannila's algorithm, Partition, Sampling and DIC, that are all based on the Apriori mining method: pruning the subset lattice (itemset lattice). In this paper we propose an efficient algorithm, called Close, based on a new mining method: pruning the closed set lattice (closed itemset lattice). This lattice, which is a sub-order of the subset lattice, is closely related to Wille's concept lattice in formal concept analysis. Experiments comparing Close to an optimized version of Apriori showed that Close is very efficient for mining dense and/or correlated data such as census style data, and performs reasonably well for market basket style data.  相似文献

The discovery of association rules is a very efficient data mining technique that is especially suitable for large amounts of categorical data. This paper shows how the discovery of association rules can be of benefit for numeric data as well. Based on a review of previous approaches we introduce Q2, a faster algorithm for the discovery of multi-dimensional association rules over ordinal data. We experimentally compare the new algorithm with the previous approach, obtaining performance improvements of more than an order of magnitude on supermarket data. In addition, a new absolute measure for the interestingness of quantitative association rules is introduced. It is based on the view that quantitative association rules have to be interpreted with respect to their Boolean generalizations. This measure has two major benefits compared to the previously used relative interestingness measure; first, it speeds up rule extraction and evaluation and second, it is easier to interpret for a user. Finally we introduce a rule browser which supports the exploration of ordinal data with quantitative association rules.  相似文献

In the domain of association rules mining (ARM) discovering the rules for numerical attributes is still a challenging issue. Most of the popular approaches for numerical ARM require a priori data discretization to handle the numerical attributes. Moreover, in the process of discovering relations among data, often more than one objective (quality measure) is required, and in most cases, such objectives include conflicting measures. In such a situation, it is recommended to obtain the optimal trade-off between objectives. This paper deals with the numerical ARM problem using a multi-objective perspective by proposing a multi-objective particle swarm optimization algorithm (i.e., MOPAR) for numerical ARM that discovers numerical association rules (ARs) in only one single step. To identify more efficient ARs, several objectives are defined in the proposed multi-objective optimization approach, including confidence, comprehensibility, and interestingness. Finally, by using the Pareto optimality the best ARs are extracted. To deal with numerical attributes, we use rough values containing lower and upper bounds to show the intervals of attributes. In the experimental section of the paper, we analyze the effect of operators used in this study, compare our method to the most popular evolutionary-based proposals for ARM and present an analysis of the mined ARs. The results show that MOPAR extracts reliable (with confidence values close to 95%), comprehensible, and interesting numerical ARs when attaining the optimal trade-off between confidence, comprehensibility and interestingness.  相似文献

Maintaining frequent itemsets (patterns) is one of the most important issues faced by the data mining community. While many algorithms for pattern discovery have been developed, relatively little work has been reported on mining dynamic databases, a major area of application in this field. In this paper, a new algorithm, namely the Efficient Dynamic Database Updating Algorithm (EDUA), is designed for mining dynamic databases. It works well when data deletion is carried out in any subset of a database that is partitioned according to the arrival time of the data. A pruning technique is proposed for improving the efficiency of the EDUA algorithm. Extensive experiments are conducted to evaluate the proposed approach and it is demonstrated that the EDUA is efficient.  相似文献

Because clinical research is carried out in complex environments, prior domain knowledge, constraints, and expert knowledge can enhance the capabilities and performance of data mining. In this paper we propose an unexpected pattern mining model that uses decision trees to compare recovery rates of two different treatments, and to find patterns that contrast with the prior knowledge of domain users. In the proposed model we define interestingness measures to determine whether the patterns found are interesting to the domain. By applying the concept of domain-driven data mining, we repeatedly utilize decision trees and interestingness measures in a closed-loop, in-depth mining process to find unexpected and interesting patterns. We use retrospective data from transvaginal ultrasound-guided aspirations to show that the proposed model can successfully compare different treatments using a decision tree, which is a new usage of that tool. We believe that unexpected, interesting patterns may provide clinical researchers with different perspectives for future research.  相似文献

High-utility itemset mining (HUIM) is a popular data mining task with applications in numerous domains. However, traditional HUIM algorithms often produce a very large set of high-utility itemsets (HUIs). As a result, analyzing HUIs can be very time consuming for users. Moreover, a large set of HUIs also makes HUIM algorithms less efficient in terms of execution time and memory consumption. To address this problem, closed high-utility itemsets (CHUIs), concise and lossless representations of all HUIs, were proposed recently. Although mining CHUIs is useful and desirable, it remains a computationally expensive task. This is because current algorithms often generate a huge number of candidate itemsets and are unable to prune the search space effectively. In this paper, we address these issues by proposing a novel algorithm called CLS-Miner. The proposed algorithm utilizes the utility-list structure to directly compute the utilities of itemsets without producing candidates. It also introduces three novel strategies to reduce the search space, namely chain-estimated utility co-occurrence pruning, lower branch pruning, and pruning by coverage. Moreover, an effective method for checking whether an itemset is a subset of another itemset is introduced to further reduce the time required for discovering CHUIs. To evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm and its novel strategies, extensive experiments have been conducted on six benchmark datasets having various characteristics. Results show that the proposed strategies are highly efficient and effective, that the proposed CLS-Miner algorithmoutperforms the current state-ofthe- art CHUD and CHUI-Miner algorithms, and that CLSMiner scales linearly.  相似文献

A top-down progressive deepening method is developed for efficient mining of multiple-level association rules from large transaction databases based on the a priori principle. A group of variant algorithms is proposed based on the ways of sharing intermediate results, with the relative performance tested and analyzed. The enforcement of different interestingness measurements to find more interesting rules, and the relaxation of rule conditions for finding “level-crossing” association rules, are also investigated. The study shows that efficient algorithms can be developed from large databases for the discovery of interesting and strong multiple-level association rules  相似文献

The problem of discovering frequent arrangements of temporal intervals is studied. It is assumed that the database consists of sequences of events, where an event occurs during a time-interval. The goal is to mine temporal arrangements of event intervals that appear frequently in the database. The motivation of this work is the observation that in practice most events are not instantaneous but occur over a period of time and different events may occur concurrently. Thus, there are many practical applications that require mining such temporal correlations between intervals including the linguistic analysis of annotated data from American Sign Language as well as network and biological data. Three efficient methods to find frequent arrangements of temporal intervals are described; the first two are tree-based and use breadth and depth first search to mine the set of frequent arrangements, whereas the third one is prefix-based. The above methods apply efficient pruning techniques that include a set of constraints that add user-controlled focus into the mining process. Moreover, based on the extracted patterns a standard method for mining association rules is employed that applies different interestingness measures to evaluate the significance of the discovered patterns and rules. The performance of the proposed algorithms is evaluated and compared with other approaches on real (American Sign Language annotations and network data) and large synthetic datasets.  相似文献

Clustering on large databases has been studied actively as an increasing number of applications involve huge amount of data. In this paper, we propose an efficient top-down approach for density-based clustering, which is based on the density information stored in index nodes of a multidimensional index. We first provide a formal definition of the cluster based on the concept of region contrast partition. Based on this notion, we propose a novel top-down clustering algorithm, which improves the efficiency through branch-and-bound pruning. For this pruning, we present a technique for determining the bounds based on sparse and dense internal regions and formally prove the correctness of the bounds. Experimental results show that the proposed method reduces the elapsed time by up to 96 times compared with that of BIRCH, which is a well-known clustering method. The results also show that the performance improvement becomes more marked as the size of the database increases.  相似文献

Association rule mining, originally proposed for market basket data, has potential applications in many areas. Spatial data, such as remote sensed imagery (RSI) data, is one of the promising application areas. Extracting interesting patterns and rules from spatial data sets, composed of images and associated ground data, can be of importance in precision agriculture, resource discovery, and other areas. However, in most cases, the sizes of the spatial data sets are too large to be mined in a reasonable amount of time using existing algorithms. In this paper, we propose an efficient approach to derive association rules from spatial data using Peano Count Tree (P-tree) structure. P-tree structure provides a lossless and compressed representation of spatial data. Based on P-trees, an efficient association rule mining algorithm PARM with fast support calculation and significant pruning techniques is introduced to improve the efficiency of the rule mining process. The P-tree based Association Rule Mining (PARM) algorithm is implemented and compared with FP-growth and Apriori algorithms. Experimental results showed that our algorithm is superior for association rule mining on RSI spatial data.   相似文献
