With an objective to investigate the influence of molybdenum disulphide (MoS2) on physico–mechanical and tribological properties of polyamide 66 (PA 66), was compounded with MoS2 in the presence of carbon black (CB). The compounded material was injection molded to make test specimens to evaluate physico–mechanical, thermal, and tribological (wear, friction, and laser etching) characteristics. It was found that tensile strength, percentage elongation at break, and tensile modulus of PA 66/CB/MoS2 composite increased linearly with increase in MoS2 content. The impact strength of the PA 66 matrix increased from 37.2 to 43.2 J/m with an increase in MoS2 content. The wear behavior of PA 66/CB/MoS2 composites have been investigated under dry sliding conditions at different normal loads, sliding distances, and sliding velocities at room temperature. It was found that the introduction of MoS2 in the presence of CB has certainly reduced the friction, wear behavior of PA 66 with improvement in laser etching resistance. MoS2 could increase the adhesion between the transfer film and the counterface surface. The ability of the synergistic fillers in helping the formation of thin, uniform, and continuous transfer film would contribute to enhance the wear resistance of PA 66 composites. POLYM. ENG. Polyoxymethylene (POM) composites modified with nanoparticles, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and MoS2 were prepared by a twin‐screw extruder. The effect of nanoparticles and solid lubricant PTFE/MoS2 on mechanical and tribological properties of the composites were studied. Tribological tests were conducted on an Amsler friction and wear tester using a block‐on‐ring arrangement under dry sliding and oil lubricated conditions, respectively. The results showed that generally speaking POM nanocomposites had better stiffness and tribological properties than corresponding POM composites attributed to the high surface energy of nanoparticles, except that the tensile strength of three composites and dry‐sliding tribological properties of POM/3%Al2O3 nanocomposite decreased due to the agglomeration of nanoparticles. Tribological properties differed under dry sliding and oil lubricated conditions. The friction coefficient and wear volume of POM nanocomposites under oil lubricated condition decreased significantly. The increased deformation resistance supported the increased wear resistance of POM nanocomposites. POM/PTFE/MoS2/3%Al2O3 nanocomposite had the best mechanical and tribological properties of all three composites, which was attributed to the synergistic effect of nanoparticles and PTFE/MoS2. POLYM. The effects of lubricating‐oil additive zinc dialkyldithiophosphate (ZDDP) on the friction and wear properties of polymers and their composites sliding against GCr15 bearing steel were studied by using an MHK‐500 ring‐on‐block wear tester (Timken wear tester). Then the frictional surfaces of the friction pairs were examined by using electron probe microanalysis (EPMA). Experimental results show that the ZDDP contained in liquid paraffin has little effect on the friction coefficients of the polyimide (PI) or polyamide 66 (PA66) against GCr15 bearing steel friction pairs compared with that under the lubrication of liquid paraffin, but it slightly reduces the friction coefficients of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) or its composites against GCr15 bearing steel friction pairs. Under lubrication of liquid paraffin containing 2 wt % ZDDP, the ZDDP film absorbed on the frictional surfaces of the PTFE composites–GCr15 bearing steel friction pairs exhibits obvious antiwear properties; it greatly reduces the wear of pure PTFE and the PTFE composites filled with Pb, PbO, and MoS2; and the wear of the PTFE composites can be reduced by one order of magnitude compared with that under lubrication of pure liquid paraffin. Meanwhile, the inorganic fillers Pb, PbO, and MoS2 contained in PTFE have little effect on the absorption of ZDDP to the frictional surfaces, so they have little effect on the friction coefficients of the PTFE composites–GCr15 bearing steel friction pairs under the lubrication of liquid paraffin containing 2 wt % ZDDP. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The friction and wear behaviors of aramid-filled PA 6 composites filled with and without nano-MoS2 were investigated on an end-face tribometer through rubbing against ASTM 1045 steel under dry friction. The experimental results indicated that the wear rate and the friction coefficient of PA 6 decreased with the addition of nano-MoS2. The friction coefficients of PA 6 composites filled with aramid fiber are lower than those without nano-MoS2. The main wear mechanisms under dry sliding condition are the plastic deformation and mechanical microploughing. For best combination of friction coefficient and wear rate, the optimal volume content of MoS2 in the composites appears to be 10 vol %.  相似文献

Based on previous work, 70 vol % PA66/30 vol % PPS blend was selected as a matrix, and the PA66/PPS blend reinforced with different content of glass fiber (GF) was prepared in this study. The mechanical properties of PA66/PPS/GF composites were studied, and the tribological behaviors were tested on block‐on‐ring sliding wear tester. The results showed that 20–30 vol % GF greatly increases the mechanical properties of PA66/PPS blend. When GF content is 20 vol %, the friction coefficient of composite is the lowest (0.35), which is decreased by 47% in comparison with the unfilled blend. The wear volume of the GF‐reinforced PA66/PPS blend composite decreases with the increase of GF content. However, the wear‐resistance is not apparently improved by the addition of GF in the experimental range for comparison with unfilled PA66/PPS blend. The worn surface and the transfer film on the counterface were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The observations revealed that the friction coefficient of composite depends on the formation and development of a transfer film. The wear mechanism involves polymer matrix wear and fiber wear. The former consists of melting wear and plastic deformation of the matrix, while the latter includes fiber sliding wear, cracking, rupturing, and pulverizing. The contributions of the matrix wear and the fiber wear determine the ultimate wear volume of PA66/PPS/GF composite. In addition, the abrasive action caused by the ruptured glass fiber is also a very important factor. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 102: 523–529, 2006  相似文献

The mechanical and tribological properties of 70 vol % PA66/30 vol % PPS blend filled with different content of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) were studied in this paper. It was found that the addition of PTFE impairs the mechanical properties of PA66/PPS blend, but greatly increases the wear resistance and decreases the friction coefficient. When PTFE content exceeds 20 vol %, the friction coefficient of composite is minimum (0.15) and lower than that of pure PTFE under the same conditions (0.22). The lowest wear volume (0.44 mm3) is obtained with PA66/PPS/30 vol % PTFE composite, which decreased by 91% compared with unfilled PA66/PPS blend (4.99 mm3). The topography of transfer film and the elemental distribution were investigated by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS), respectively. Because of the characteristic crystalline structure, PTFE preferentially transferred to the steel ring surface and formed a thin, uniform and firmly adhered transfer layer, which reduced the ability of PA66/PPS blend to transfer and prevent the adhesion between the sample and the couterface. In addition, the superior lubrication of PTFE inhibited the frictional heat melting during sliding. All these aspects are close related to the friction and wear behavior of PA66/PPS/PTFE composite. Upon the addition of PTFE, thermal control of friction regime is not applicable to the PA66/PPS blend. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 101: 969–977, 2006  相似文献

The use of glass fibers (GFs), molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), and talc was evaluated to reinforce polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) for potential applications in automobile shock absorber pistons. The orthogonal experiment results show that the optimal GF/MoS2/talc/PTFE weight ratio was 2:3:3:92 for the PTFE composite; this ratio resulted in better mechanical properties, hardness, low linear expansion, and wear rate. Chemical coupling and high‐temperature activation treatment on the surface of GF greatly enhanced the interfacial adhesion between the PTFE matrix and GF, as revealed by atomic force microscopy analysis. This resulted in reductions in the wear rate and linear expansion coefficient by two orders of magnitude compared with that of PTFE. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Five kinds of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)‐based composites, pure PTFE, PTFE + 30(v)% MoS2, PTFE + 30(v)% PbS, PTFE + 30(v)% CuS, and PTFE + 30(v)% graphite (GR) composites, were first prepared. Then the friction and wear properties of these PTFE composites, sliding against GCr15‐bearing steel under both dry and liquid paraffin‐lubricated conditions, were studied by using an MHK‐500 ring‐on‐block wear tester. Finally, the worn surfaces and the transfer films of the PTFE composites formed on the surface of GCr15 bearing steel were investigated by using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and an optical microscope, respectively. Experimental results show that filling with MoS2, PbS, CuS, or graphite to PTFE can reduce the wear of the PTFE composites by two orders of magnitude compared to that of pure PTFE under dry friction conditions. However, the friction and wear‐reducing properties of these PTFE composites can be greatly improved by lubrication with liquid paraffin. Investigations of transfer films show that MoS2, PbS, CuS, and graphite promote the transfer of the PTFE composites onto the surface of GCr15‐bearing steel under dry friction conditions, but the transfer of the PTFE composites onto the surface of GCr15‐bearing steel can be greatly reduced by lubrication with liquid paraffin. SEM examinations of worn surfaces show that with lubrication of liquid paraffin, the creation and development of the cracks occurred on the worn surfaces of the PTFE composites under load, which reduces the load‐supporting capacity of the PTFE composites. This would lead to the deterioration of the friction and wear properties of the PTFE composites under higher loads (>600N). © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 72: 751–761, 1999  相似文献

To enhance the tribological performance of Si3N4/TiC ceramics, MoS2/PTFE composite coatings were deposited on the ceramic substrate through spraying method. The micrographs and basic properties of the MoS2/PTFE coated samples were investigated. Dry sliding friction experiments against WC/Co ball were performed with the coated ceramics and traditional ones. These results showed that the composite coatings could significantly reduce the friction coefficient of ceramics, and protect the substrate from adhesion wear. The primary tribological mechanisms of the coated ceramics were abrasive wear, coating spalling and delamination, and the tribological property was transited from slight wear to serious wear with the increase of load because of the lower surface hardness and shear strength. The possible mechanisms for the effects of MoS2/PTFE composite coatings on the friction performance of ceramics were discussed.  相似文献

The tribological properties of glass fiber reinforced polyamide 6 (GF/PA6, 15/85 by weight) and its composites filled with solid lubricants were investigated. The main purposes of this article were to study the hybrid effect of solid lubricants with glass fiber as well as the synergism of combined solid lubricants, the wear mechanisms were studied by SEM. The results showed that graphite impaired the tribological properties of GF/PA6, but the tribology behavior of graphite filled GF/PA6 composite could be significantly improved by polytetrafluroethylene (PTFE) or/and ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), and the GF/PA6 composite filled with 5 wt % graphite, 5 wt % PTFE together with 5 wt % UHMWPE exhibited the lowest friction coefficient and wear rate, which was almost a reduction in friction coefficient by 37% and in wear rate by 34% contrast to GF/PA6. The effect of load was also studied, and the results showed that the friction coefficient was virtually not affected by load, while the wear rate all increased with increasing load. POLYM. Four kinds of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)-based composites, such as pure PTFE, PTFE + 30(vol.)% carbon fiber, PTFE + 30(vol.)% glass fiber, and PTFE + 30(vol.)% K2Ti6O13 whisker composite, were prepared. The friction and wear properties of these fiber- and whisker-reinforced PTFE composites sliding against GCr15-bearing steel (SAE52100 steel) under both dry and liquid paraffin lubricated conditions were studied by using an MHK-500 ring-block wear tester (Timken wear tester). Then the worn surfaces of these PTFE composites and the transfer films formed on the surface of GCr15-bearing steel were investigated by using a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and an Optical Microscope, respectively. Experimental results show that the friction and wear properties of the PTFE composites reinforced with carbon fiber, glass fiber, and a K2Ti6O13 whisker can be greatly improved by lubrication with liquid paraffin, and the friction coefficients of these PTFE composites can be decreased by one order of magnitude compared to those under dry friction conditions. Meanwhile, the wear of the fiber- and whisker-reinforced PTFE composites in liquid paraffin lubrication increases with the increase of load, but the friction coefficients of these PTFE composites first decrease with the increase of load, and then increase with the increase of load. The variations of friction coefficients with load for these PTFE composites in liquid paraffin lubrication can be described properly by the Stribeck's curve as given in this article. However, when the load increases to the load limits of the PTFE composites, their friction and wear increase sharply. SEM and optical microscope investigations show that the interactions between liquid paraffin and the PTFE composites, especially the absorption of liquid paraffin into the surface layers of the PTFE composites, create some obvious cracks on the worn surfaces of the PTFE composites. The creation and the development of the cracks reduce the load-carrying capacity of the PTFE composites, and therefore lead to the increase of the friction and wear of the PTFE composites under higher loads. Meanwhile, the transfer of the fiber- and whisker-reinforced PTFE composites onto the counterfaces can be greatly reduced by lubrication with liquid paraffin, but the transfer still takes place. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Five kinds of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)-based composites were prepared: PTFE, PTFE + 30 vol % SiC, PTFE + 30 vol % Si3N4, PTFE + 30 vol % BN, and PTFE + 30 vol % B2O3. The friction and wear properties of these ceramic particle filled PTFE composites sliding against GCr15 bearing steel under both dry and liquid paraffin lubricated conditions were studied by using an MHK-500 ring-block wear tester. The worn surfaces and the transfer films formed on the surface of the GCr15 bearing steel of these PTFE composites were investigated by using a scanning electron microscope (SEM)and an optical microscope, respectively. The experimental results show that the ceramic particles of SiC, Si3N4, BN, and B2O3 can greatly reduce the wear of the PTFE composites; the wear-reducing action of Si3N4 is the most effective, that of SiC is the next most effective, then the BN, and that of B2O3 is the worst. We found that B2O3 reduces the friction coefficient of the PTFE composite but SiC, Si3N4, and BN increase the friction coefficients of the PTFE composites. However, the friction and wear properties of the ceramic particle filled PTFE composites can be greatly improved by lubrication with liquid paraffin, and the friction coefficients of the PTFE composites can be decreased by 1 order of magnitude. Under lubrication of liquid paraffin the friction coefficients of these ceramic particle filled PTFE composites decrease with an increase of load, but the wear of the PTFE composites increases with a load increase. The variations of the friction coefficients with load for these ceramic particle filled PTFE composites under lubrication of liquid paraffin can be properly described by the relationship between the friction coefficient (μ) and the simplified Sommerfeld variable N/P as given here. The investigations of the frictional surfaces show that the ceramic particles SiC, Si3N4, BN, and B2O3 enhance the adhesion of the transfer films of the PTFE composites to the surface of GCr15 bearing steel, so they greatly reduce the wear of the PTFE composites. However, the transfer of the PTFE composites onto the surface of the GCr15 bearing steel can be greatly reduced by lubrication with liquid paraffin, but the transfer still takes place. Meanwhile, the interactions between the liquid paraffin and the PTFE composites, especially the absorption of liquid paraffin into the surface layers of the PTFE composites, create some cracks on the worn surfaces of the ceramic particle filled PTFE composites; the creation and development of these cracks reduces the load-supporting capacity of the PTFE composites. This leads to the deterioration of the friction and wear properties of the PTFE composites under higher loads in liquid paraffin lubrication. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)‐based composites, filled with CeO2, CeF3, and La2O3 in volume contents of 5, 10, 15, 20, and 30%, were prepared. Then, the friction and wear behavior of these PTFE composites sliding against GCr15 bearing steel under both dry and liquid paraffin‐lubricated conditions was evaluated using an MHK‐500 ring‐on‐block wear tester. Finally, the worn surfaces and the transfer films of these PTFE composites were investigated using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and an optical microscope. Experimental results showed that filling CeO2, CeF3, and La2O3 into PTFE can reduce the wear of the PTFE composites by 1–2 orders of magnitude. When the content of CeO2 in PTFE is 15%, the friction and wear properties of the CeO2‐filled PTFE composite are the best. Meanwhile, when the content of La2O3 in PTFE is between 15 and 20%, the PTFE composite filled with La2O3 exhibits excellent friction and wear‐reducing properties. However, the friction coefficient of the CeF3‐filled PTFE composite increases but its wear decreases with increase in the content of CeF3 from 5 to 30%. The friction and wear‐reducing properties of CeO2‐, CeF3‐, and La2O3‐filled PTFE composites can be greatly improved by lubrication with liquid paraffin, but the limit loads of the PTFE composites decrease with increase in the content of CeO2, CeF3, and La2O3 in PTFE (from 5 to 30%) under the same conditions. Investigations of worn surfaces show that the interaction between liquid paraffin and the CeO2‐, CeF3‐, and La2O3‐filled PTFE composites, especially the absorption of liquid paraffin into the microdefects of the PTFE composites, creates some cracks on the worn surfaces of the PTFE composites and that the creation and development of the cracks reduces the mechanical strength and the load‐supporting capacity of the PTFE composites. However, with increase of the content of CeO2, CeF3, and La2O3 in the PTFE, the microdefects in the PTFE composites also increase, which would lead to increase in the number of the cracks on the worn surfaces of the PTFE composites under load and, so, in turn, lead to the reduction of the limit loads of the CeO2‐, CeF3‐, and La2O3‐filled PTFE composites under lubrication with liquid paraffin. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A chemical grafting method was applied to modify TiO2 nanoparticles through covalently introducing glycidoxypropyltrimethoxy silicane (KH560) followed by polyoxymethylene onto the particles to overcome the disadvantages generated by the agglomeration of nanoparticles. TiO2 nanoparticles unmodified and modified were introduced into hybrid polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)/cotton fabric composites. Friction and wear test demonstrated that TiO2 nanoparticles unmodified and modified can significantly increase the wear resistance of hybrid PTFE/cotton fabric composites but cannot reduce the friction coefficient. Fabric composites filled with grafted TiO2 nanoparticles exhibited a lower wear rate due to the disintegration of agglomeration and the improvement of interfacial adhesion between filler/matrix.

To improve the dry friction behavior of traditional hard coatings, MoS2/PTFE lubricating coatings were prepared on the PVD TiN-coated cemented carbide using spray method. The influences of MoS2/PTFE lubricating coatings on the primary characteristics of TiN coatings were investigated. Reciprocating sliding tests were carried out with the TiN–MoS2/PTFE coated specimen (T-M-P) under dry sliding conditions, and the tribological behaviors were compared to those of the TiN-coated one (T-N). The test results indicated that the adhesion force of coatings with substrate for T-M-P specimen increased, the surface micro-hardness, roughness and friction coefficient significantly decreased. Meanwhile, the surface adhesions and abrasion grooves of T-M-P specimen were reduced, and the main wear forms of T-M-P were abrasion wear and coating delamination. The MoS2/PTFE lubricating coatings can be considered effective to improve the friction properties of traditional hard coatings.  相似文献
