In light of the rapid progress information technology (IT) has been making in both the fixed and wireless network, economic agents have started to focus on electronic commerce in hopes of reaping substantial profits. Faced with stiff, technology-driven competition, enterprises will have to go beyond traditional sales and marketing channels to stay in business. Telecom-providers, in particular, will have to offer cutting-edge technology to their customers. At the same time, organizations will have to implement internal and external structural changes, to attain a comparative advantage from harnessing the latest IT. Intermediation, or the services offered by intermediaries, should allow for transparency, risk minimization and customer-orientation.     

Portierung von LAN-Kommunikationseigenschaften auf einen Feldbus

There is no universally applicable programming interface to address the existent shortcomings for field buses. A number of field buses have come into widespread use and the implementers of field bus-based systems tend to have problems to employ the field bus efficiently. Within the project described a LAN-oriented field bus-independent protocol has been defined and implemented, to speed up the implementation process for the implementer.

Integration Operator Design for Real-Time Digital Simulation

This paper presents a design technique for integration operators which allows the simulation time step to be chosen independent of the system eigenvalues while guaranteeing stability of the simulation. The technique is particularly useful for the real-time simulation of stiff systems where critical constraints are often imposed on the simulation increment. A significant savings in computation time can be realized with this technique when compared with conventional methods for simulating stiff systems. Examples are presented which illustrate the stability and accuracy properties of this design method.

Growing awareness for the relevance of renewable national energy sources stimulated a trend towards application of wind power plants for production of electricity in Austria the last years. Facing the standard development of areas with economic wind energy potential by 20 kV voltage level, grid companies as well as wind park owners are confronted with power quality questions as a result of increasing wind park power output. Using numerical simulation all interdependencies between the electrical grid and wind parks in consideration of characteristics of single wind power plants as well as the electrical grid can be studied.     

Neue Fahrzeugtechnologien durch Brennstoffzelle und Elektroantrieb

Electric drive train systems are introduced to automotive application by hybrid vehicles as well as by new electric powered auxiliary units. As a preliminary step in the development of zero emission cars with hydrogen as energy carrier and fuel cells as energy converters they bring about new concepts such as high performance electric motors and sandwich chassis constructions. In combination with short term energy storage systems like super caps and new battery systems even more powerful zero-emission vehicles can be realized. Early applications of these technologies can be observed in transit busses and light duty vehicle fleets for field trials.

Austria has successfully opened its electricity market on October, 1st, 2001 on the basis of the regulated TPA. The balance group system and in particular the imbalance settlement have been initiated on time. The premature harmonization of metering data for imbalance settlement supports the Europeanization of customers’ supply and reduces costs for market participants.

Integration wirtschaftlicher und technischer Komponenten in CIM-Systemen

Today many enterprises are forced to produce products which fulfill individual customer requirements. This situation results in an exploding number of variant parts of a product again resulting in a huge number of product data. To meet these new requirements, many enterprises introduce powerful CIM systems. Normally, this leads to heterogeneous EDP concepts which are characterized by autonomous CIM components, each with its own database. This paper illustrates how rule-based management of product data on the one hand significantly reduces the amount of product data and how rule-based management of product on the other hand allows to automate data exchange between several CIM components. One important consequence of this approach is that the integration of business-oriented and technical components within a CIM system is significantly improved.
