A series of dicarbazolyl derivatives bridged by various aromatic spacers and decorated with peripheral diarylamines were synthesized using Ullmann and Pd‐catalyzed C–N coupling procedures. These derivatives emit blue light in solution. In general, they possess high glass‐transition temperatures (Tg > 125 °C) which vary with the bridging segment and methyl substitution on the peripheral amine. Double‐layer organic light‐emitting devices were successfully fabricated using these molecules as hole‐transporting and emitting materials. Devices of the configuration ITO/HTL/TPBI/Mg:Ag (ITO: indium tin oxide; HTL: hole‐transporting layer; TPBI: 1,3,5‐tris(N‐phenylbenzimidazol‐2‐yl)benzene) display blue emission from the HTL layer. The EL spectra of these devices appear slightly distorted due to the exciplex formation at the interfaces. However, for the devices of the configuration ITO/HTL/Alq3/Mg:Ag (Alq3 = tris(8‐hydroxyquinoline)aluminum) a bright green light from the Alq3 layer was observed. This clearly demonstrates the facile hole‐transporting property of the materials described here.  相似文献

Surface modification of indium‐tin‐oxide (ITO)‐coated substrates through the use of self‐assembled monolayers (SAMs) of molecules with permanent dipole moments has been used to control the ITO work function and device performance in polymer light‐emitting diodes based on a polyfluorene hole transporting copolymer. Measured current–voltage characteristics of the devices reveal greatly increased hole injection currents from the SAM‐altered electrodes with higher work function, in agreement with an expected reduction in the barrier for hole injection. In particular, it is shown that the SAM‐modified electrode with the highest work function provides an ohmic contact for hole injection into the studied polymer. Injection from the widely used poly(2,3‐ethylenedioxythiophene)/polystyrenesulphonic acid (PEDOT:PSS)‐coated ITO anode system, is less efficient compared with some of the studied SAM‐coated ITO anodes despite the significantly higher work function measured by a Kelvin probe. This apparently anomalous situation is attributed to the inhomogenities in the injection processes that occur over the area of the device when the PEDOT:PSS‐coated ITO electrode is used.  相似文献

Fluorinated phosphonic acids were self-assembled to form monolayers (SAMs) on indium tin oxide anodes, resulting in work functions that are 0.15-0.4 eV larger than PEDOT:PSS by Kelvin probe. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and water contact angle measurements were used to study monolayer growth kinetics and to verify the degree of coverage. Hole-only devices and white polymer light emitting diodes were constructed using unmodified ITO, SAM-modified ITO, and PEDOT:PSS on ITO to investigate the influence of the fluorinated SAMs on hole injection. Hole-only devices indicate improved hole injection compared to PEDOT:PSS. Compared with light-emitting diodes using pure ITO anodes, the SAM-modified devices show improved charge injection and ten times higher luminous efficiency. Compared to devices using PEDOT:PSS, SAM-modified devices show improved brightness and luminous efficiency, although with a slightly larger turn-on voltage. These materials are therefore suitable candidates to replace PEDOT:PSS as a hole injection layer in PLEDs.  相似文献

The effect of solution‐processed p‐type doping of hole‐generation layers (HGLs) and electron‐transporting layer (ETLs) are systematically investigated on the performance of solution‐processable alternating current (AC) field‐induced polymer EL (FIPEL) devices in terms of hole‐generation capability of HGLs and electron‐transporting characteristics of ETLs. A variety of p‐type doping conjugated polymers and a series of solution‐processed electron‐transporting small molecules are employed. It is found that the free hole density in p‐type doping HGLs and electron mobility of solution‐processed ETLs are directly related to the device performance, and that the hole‐transporting characteristics of ETLs also play an important role since holes need to be injected from electrode through ETLs to refill the depleted HGLs in the positive half of the AC cycle. As a result, the best FIPEL device exhibits exceptional performance: a low turn‐on voltage of 12 V, a maximum luminance of 20 500 cd m?2, a maximum current and power efficiency of 110.7 cd A?1 and 29.3 lm W?1. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the highest report to date among FIPEL devices driven by AC voltage.  相似文献

Novel hole‐transporting dendrimeric molecules containing dioctylfluorene, spirobi(fluorene) and spiro(cylododecane‐fluorene) as the core unit and different numbers of carbazole and thiophene moieties as the peripheral groups are synthesized. All the dendrimers are characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, FTIR, UV–vis, PL spectroscopy, and MALDI‐TOF. They are thermally stable with high glass transition and decomposition temperatures and exhibit chemically reversible redox processes. They are used as the hole‐transporting layer (HTL) material for multilayer organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) with a low turn‐on voltage of around 2.5 V and a bright green emission with a maximum luminance of around 25400 cd m?2.  相似文献

We report the design and synthesis of three alcohol‐soluble neutral conjugated polymers, poly[9,9‐bis(2‐(2‐(2‐diethanolaminoethoxy) ethoxy)ethyl)fluorene] (PF‐OH), poly[9,9‐bis(2‐(2‐(2‐diethanol‐aminoethoxy)ethoxy)ethyl)fluorene‐alt‐4,4′‐phenylether] (PFPE‐OH) and poly[9,9‐bis(2‐(2‐(2‐diethanolaminoethoxy) ethoxy)ethyl)fluorene‐alt‐benzothiadizole] (PFBT‐OH) with different conjugation length and electron affinity as highly efficient electron injecting and transporting materials for polymer light‐emitting diodes (PLEDs). The unique solubility of these polymers in polar solvents renders them as good candidates for multilayer solution processed PLEDs. Both the fluorescent and phosphorescent PLEDs based on these polymers as electron injecting/transporting layer (ETL) were fabricated. It is interesting to find that electron‐deficient polymer (PFBT‐OH) shows very poor electron‐injecting ability compared to polymers with electron‐rich main chain (PF‐OH and PFPE‐OH). This phenomenon is quite different from that obtained from conventional electron‐injecting materials. Moreover, when these polymers were used in the phosphorescent PLEDs, the performance of the devices is highly dependent on the processing conditions of these polymers. The devices with ETL processed from water/methanol mixed solvent showed much better device performance than the devices processed with methanol as solvent. It was found that the erosion of the phosphorescent emission layer could be greatly suppressed by using water/methanol mixed solvent for processing the polymer ETL. The electronic properties of the ETL could also be influenced by the processing conditions. This offers a new avenue to improve the performance of phosphorescent PLEDs through manipulating the processing conditions of these conjugated polymer ETLs.  相似文献

A novel, highly efficient hole injection material based on a conducting polymer polythienothiophene (PTT) doped with poly(perfluoroethylene‐perfluoroethersulfonic acid) (PFFSA) in organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs) is demonstrated. Both current–voltage and dark‐injection‐current transient data of hole‐only devices demonstrate high hole‐injection efficiency employing PTT:PFFSA polymers with different organic charge‐transporting materials used in fluorescent and phosphorescent organic light‐emitting diodes. It is further demonstrated that PTT:PFFSA polymer formulations applied as the hole injection layer (HIL) in OLEDs reduce operating voltages and increase brightness significantly. Hole injection from PTT:PFFSA is found to be much more efficient than from typical small molecule HILs such as copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) or polymer HILs such as polyethylene dioxythiophene: polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT‐PSS). OLED devices employing PTT:PFFSA polymer also demonstrate significantly longer lifetime and more stable operating voltages compared to devices using CuPc.  相似文献

The charge transport and recombination in white‐emitting polymer light‐ emitting diodes (PLEDs) are studied. The PLED investigated has a single emissive layer consisting of a copolymer in which a green and red dye are incorporated in a blue backbone. From single‐carrier devices the effect of the green‐ and red‐emitting dyes on the hole and electron transport is determined. The red dye acts as a deep electron trap thereby strongly reducing the electron transport. By incorporating trap‐assisted recombination for the red emission and bimolecular Langevin recombination for the blue emission, the current and light output of the white PLED can be consistently described. The color shift of single‐layer white‐emitting PLEDs can be explained by the different voltage dependencies of trap‐assisted and bimolecular recombination.  相似文献

A cross-linkable hole transporting material PLEXCORE® HTL was incorporated in phosphorescent organic light emitting diodes. This hole transporting material is based on an arylamine derivate. The device performance in terms of efficiency and lifetime was compared to the same devices with a thermally evaporated 4,4′-bis[N-(1-naphthyl)-N-phenylamino]biphenyl (NPB)-based hole transporting layer. The resulting devices with the cross-linkable HTL gave higher efficiency, smaller roll-off and longer lifetime compared with devices with the NPB-based devices. This new hole transporting material paves the road toward solution processed multilayer light emitting devices.  相似文献

The performance of organic light‐emitting devices (OLEDs) is strongly influenced by the electronic properties of the employed materials. In order to determine the effect of these materials' parameters, several different hole‐transporting 1,3,5‐tris(4‐diphenylaminophenyl)benzenes (TDAPBs) were synthesised. These TDAPBs contained different substituents, different numbers of substituents and different positions of theses substituents. For the evaluation of the electronic properties, cyclic voltammetry was employed in order to determine the HOMO values, and time‐of‐flight (TOF) measurements to obtain the hole mobilities. OLEDs were prepared consisting of the TDAPBs blended in a polymer matrix, and of Alq3 as electron‐conducting and light‐emitting layer. These devices were investigated regarding their current density/voltage characteristics, efficiencies, onset voltages for electroluminescence, and lifetimes. For hole‐transporting blend systems an exponential relationship between the current density and the HOMO levels of the TDAPBs was found. However, even though the HOMO values cover a range from −5.09 to −5.35 eV, no effects on the performance of the OLEDs were detected for electroluminescent two‐layer systems. In this case the initial voltage seems to be a determining parameter for the behaviour of the devices during operation. Copyright © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

MXenes (Ti3C2) are 2D transition‐metal carbides and carbonitrides with high conductivity and optical transparency. However, transparent MXene electrodes suitable for polymer light‐emitting diodes (PLEDs) have rarely been demonstrated. With the discovery of the excellent electrical stability of MXene under an alternating current (AC), herein, PLEDs that employ MXene electrodes and exhibit high performance under AC operation (AC MXene PLEDs) are presented. The PLED exhibits a turn‐on voltage, current efficiency, and brightness of 2.1 V, 7 cd A?1, and 12 547 cd m?2, respectively, when operated under AC with a frequency of 1 kHz. The results indicate that the undesirable electric breakdown associated with heat arising from the poor interface of the MXene with a hole transport layer in the direct‐current mode is efficiently suppressed by the transient injection of carriers accompanied by the alternating change of the electric polarity under the AC, giving rise to reliable light emission with a high efficiency. The solution‐processable MXene electrode can be readily fabricated on a flexible polymer substrate, allowing for the development of a mechanically flexible AC MXene PLED with a higher performance than flexible PLEDs employing solution‐processed nanomaterial‐based electrodes such as carbon nanotubes, reduced graphene oxide, and Ag nanowires.  相似文献

Injection and extraction of charges through ohmic contacts are required for efficient operation of semiconductor devices. Treatment using polar non‐solvents switches polar anode surfaces, including PEDOT:PSS and ITO, from barrier‐limited hole injection and extraction to ohmic behaviour. This is caused by an in‐situ modification of the anode surface that is buried under a layer of organic semiconductor. The exposure to methanol removes polar hydroxyl groups from the buried anode interface, and permanently increases the work function by 0.2–0.3 eV. In the case of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/PBDTTT‐CT:PC71BM/Al photovoltaic devices, the higher work function promotes charge transfer, leading to p‐doping of the organic semiconductor at the interface. This results in a two‐fold increase in hole extraction rates which raises both the fill factor and the open‐circuit voltage, leading to high power conversion efficiency of 7.4%. In ITO/PEDOT:PSS/F8BT/Al polymer light‐emitting diodes, where the organic semiconductor's HOMO level lies deeper than the anode Fermi level, the increased work function enhances hole injection efficiency and luminance intensity by 3 orders of magnitude. In particular, hole injection rates from PEDOT:PSS anodes are equivalent to those achievable using MoO3. These findings exemplify the importance of work function control as a tool for improved electrode design, and open new routes to device interfacial optimization using facile solvent processing techniques. Such simple, persistent, treatments pave the way towards low cost manufacturing of efficient organic optoelectronic devices.  相似文献

Charge carrier injection and transport in polymer light‐emitting diodes (PLEDs) is strongly limited by the energy level offset at organic/(in)organic interfaces and the mismatch in electron and hole mobilities. Herein, these limitations are overcome via electrochemical doping of a light‐emitting polymer. Less than 1 wt% of doping agent is enough to effectively tune charge injection and balance and hence significantly improve PLED performance. For thick single‐layer (1.2 µm) PLEDs, dramatic reductions in current and luminance turn‐on voltages (VJ = 11.6 V from 20.0 V and VL = 12.7 V from 19.8 V with/without doping) accompanied by reduced efficiency roll‐off are observed. For thinner (<100 nm) PLEDs, electrochemical doping removes a thickness dependence on VJ and VL, enabling homogeneous electroluminescence emission in large‐area doped devices. Such efficient charge injection and balance properties achieved in doped PLEDs are attributed to a strong electrochemical interaction between the polymer and the doping agents, which is probed by in situ electric‐field‐dependent Raman spectroscopy combined with further electrical and energetic analysis. This approach to control charge injection and balance in solution‐processed PLEDs by low electrochemical doping provides a simple yet feasible strategy for developing high‐quality and efficient lighting applications that are fully compatible with printing technologies.  相似文献

The active part of present polymer light‐emitting diodes (PLEDs) consists of only a single layer. Multilayer devices have the advantage that the electron and hole transport can be balanced and that the recombination can be removed from the metallic cathode, leading to higher efficiencies. A major problem for polymer‐based multilayer devices is the solubility of the materials used; a multilayer can not be fabricated when a spin‐cast layer dissolves in the solvent of the subsequent layer. We demonstrate the development of high‐mobility poly(p‐phenylenevinylene) (PPV)‐based hole‐transport layers with tunable solubility by chemical modification. Enhanced charge‐transport properties are achieved by using symmetrically substituted PPVs; copolymers of long and short side chains enable us to tune the solubility without loss of the enhanced charge transport. Dual‐layer PLEDs, in which the holes are efficiently transported via this copolymer towards the luminescent layer, exhibit an enhanced efficiency at high voltages (> 10 V) and a strongly improved robustness against electrical breakdown.  相似文献

Control of surface composition of a hole‐injecting conducting polymer complex, poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxy thiophene) (PEDOT) doped with a polystyrene sulfonate (PSS) has been conducted in the spin‐cast films. We found that the work function of the polymeric complex films formed via single spin‐coating can be greatly increased up to 5.44 eV by increasing the surface concentration of the PSS dopant. As a result, we improved the device efficiency and the lifetime of green emitting polymer light‐emitting diodes (PLEDs). This implies that the PSS surface layer of the films spin‐cast from the conducting polymer complexes plays a key role in making high performance PLEDs.  相似文献

Grafting six fluorene units to a benzene ring generates a new highly twisted core of hexakis(fluoren‐2‐yl)benzene. Based on the new core, six‐arm star‐shaped oligofluorenes from the first generation T1 to third generation T3 are constructed. Their thermal, photophysical, and electrochemical properties are studied, and the relationship between the structures and properties is discussed. Simple double‐layer electroluminescence (EL) devices using T1–T3 as non‐doped solution‐processed emitters display deep‐blue emissions with Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.17, 0.08) for T1 , (0.16, 0.08) for T2 , and (0.16, 0.07) for T3 . These devices exhibit excellent performance, with maximum current efficiency of up to 5.4 cd A?1, and maximum external quantum efficiency of up to 6.8%, which is the highest efficiency for non‐doped solution‐processed deep‐blue organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs) based on starburst oligofluorenes, and is even comparable with other solution‐processed deep‐blue fluorescent OLEDs. Furthermore, T2‐ and T3‐ based devices show striking blue EL color stability independent of driving voltage. In addition, using T0–T3 as hole‐transporting materials, the devices of indium tin oxide (ITO)/poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonic acid) (PEDOT:PSS)/ T0–T3 /tris(8‐hydroxyquinolinato)aluminium (Alq3)/LiF/Al achieve maximum current efficiencies of 5.51–6.62 cd A?1, which are among the highest for hole‐transporting materials in identical device structure.  相似文献

Conventional organic light emitting devices have a bottom buffer interlayer placed underneath the hole transporting layer (HTL) to improve hole injection from the indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode. In this work, a substantial enhancement in hole injection efficiency is demonstrated when an electron accepting interlayer is evaporated on top of the HTL in an inverted device along with a top hole injection anode compared with the conventional device with a bottom hole injection anode. Current–voltage and space‐charge‐limited dark injection (DI‐SCLC) measurements were used to characterize the conventional and inverted N,N′‐diphenyl‐N,N′‐bis(1‐naphthyl)(1,1biphenyl)‐4,4diamine (NPB) hole‐only devices with either molybdenum trioxide (MoO3) or 1,4,5,8,9,11‐hexaazatriphenylene hexacarbonitrile (HAT‐CN) as the interlayer. Both normal and inverted devices with HAT‐CN showed significantly higher injection efficiencies compared to similar devices with MoO3, with the inverted device with HAT‐CN as the interlayer showing a hole injection efficiency close to 100%. The results from doping NPB with MoO3 or HAT‐CN confirmed that the injection efficiency enhancements in the inverted devices were due to the enhanced charge transfer at the electron acceptor/NPB interface.  相似文献

Two novel naphtho[1,2‐d]imidazole derivatives are developed as deep‐blue, light‐emitting materials for organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs). The 1H‐naphtho[1,2‐d]imidazole based compounds exhibit a significantly superior performance than the 3H‐naphtho[1,2‐d]imidazole analogues in the single‐layer devices. This is because they have a much higher capacity for direct electron‐injection from the cathode compared to their isomeric counterparts resulting in a ground‐breaking EQE (external quantum efficiency) of 4.37% and a low turn‐on voltage of 2.7 V, and this is hitherto the best performance for a non‐doped single‐layer fluorescent OLED. Multi‐layer devices consisting of both hole‐ and electron‐transporting layers, result in identically excellent performances with EQE values of 4.12–6.08% and deep‐blue light emission (Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) y values of 0.077–0.115) is obtained for both isomers due to the improved carrier injection and confinement within the emissive layer. In addition, they showed a significantly better blue‐color purity than analogous molecules based on benzimidazole or phenanthro[9,10‐d]imidazole segments.  相似文献

A series of fluorene‐based oligomers with novel spiro‐annulated triarylamine structures, namely DFSTPA, TFSTPA, and TFSDTC, are synthesized by a Suzuki cross‐coupling reaction. The spiro‐configuration molecular structures lead to very high glass transition temperatures (197–253 °C) and weak intermolecular interactions, and consequently the structures retain good morphological stability and high fluorescence quantum efficiencies(0.69–0.98). This molecular design simultaneously solves the spectral stability problems and hole‐injection and transport issues for fluorene‐based blue‐light‐emitting materials. Simple double‐layer electroluminescence (EL) devices with a configuration of ITO/TFSTPA (device A) or TFSDTC (device B)/ TPBI/LiF/Al, where TFSTPA and TFSDTC serve as hole‐transporting blue‐light‐emitting materials, show a deep‐blue emission with a peak around 432 nm, and CIE coordinates of (0.17, 0.12) for TFSTPA and (0.16, 0.07) for TFSDTC, respectively, which are very close to the National Television System Committee (NTSC) standard for blue (0.15, 0.07). The maximum current efficiency/external quantum efficiencies are 1.63 cd A?1/1.6% for device A and 1.91 cd A?1/2.7% for device B, respectively. In addition, a device with the structure ITO/DFSTPA/Alq3/LiF/Al, where DFSTPA acts as both the hole‐injection and ‐transporting material, is shown to achieve a good performance, with a maximum luminance of 14 047 cd m?2, and a maximum current efficiency of 5.56 cd A?1. These values are significantly higher than those of devices based on commonly usedN,N′‐di(1‐naphthyl)‐N,N′‐diphenyl‐[1,1′‐biphenyl]‐4,4′‐diamine (NPB) as the hole‐transporting layer (11 738 cd m?2 and 3.97 cd A?1) under identical device conditions.  相似文献

The hole transporting layer (HTL) of organic light-emitting device (OLED) was processed by vacuum deposition and spin coating method, respectively, where N,N'-biphenyl-N, N'-bis(3-methylphenyl)- 1, l'-biphenyl-4,4' -diamine (TPD) and poly (vinylcarbazole) (PVK) acted as the hole-transport materials. Tris-(8-hydroxyquinoline)- aluminum (Alq3) was utilized as both the light-emitting layer and the electron transporting layer. The basic structure of the device cell was: indium-tin-oxide (1TO)/PVK : TPD/Alq3/Mg:Ag. The electroluminescent (EL) characteristics of devices were characterized. The results showed that the peak of EL spectra was located at 530 nm, which conformed to the characterizing spectrum of Alq3. Compared with using vacuum deposition method, the green emission with a maximum luminance up to 26135 cd/m2 could be achieved at a drive voltage of 15 V by selecting proper solvent using spin-coating technique, and its maximum lumi nance efficiency was 2.56 lm/W at a drive voltage of 5.5 V.  相似文献
