Exchange Rates and the International Trade in Metals: The Case of Copper

The role of exchange rates in determination of the competitiveness of a nation's mineral industry is important, controversial, and not generally well understood. This paper attempts to explain the mechanics of exchange rate calculations as related to mining costs, illustrate various surrogrates for more exact calculations, and highlight some of the perplexing and controversial policy questions in this area. This paper concentrates on one industry—primary copper. However, much of the material presented is more general and applicable to other metals. Further, the paper is directed to supply-side issues, as these are of particular interest in the case of copper.     

The Viscous and Conductivity Behavior of Melts Containing Iron Oxide in the FeOt-SiO2-CaO-Cu2O System for Copper Smelting Slags

The control of the slag properties has become very essential in improving (1) the separation between the slag and the matte and (2) the operation of electric smelting furnaces in the copper pyrometallurgical process. The viscosities and electrical conductivities of FeO_t-SiO₂-CaO-Cu₂O copper smelting slags were measured using the rotational spindle method and the standard direct-current (DC) four-probe method, respectively, in this article. The influences of the common constituents of CaO, Fe₃O₄, Cu₂O in the basic slag system of FeO-SiO₂ on the viscosity and conductivity have been investigated. The results showed that the effects of these three compositions on viscosity and conductivity were much more complicated due to the transition of the basic slag compositions. The apparent activity energy of viscosity and the relationship between viscosity and electrical conductivity are also mentioned in the study.

我国铜阳极泥分银渣综合回收利用研究进展

分银渣是铜阳极泥处理工艺的尾渣,其中含有多种有价金属锡、铅、铋、锑等,1 t阳极泥一般产生0.5～0.6 t分银渣。本文综述了国内处理分银渣提取有价金属的工艺流程,对分银渣回收的前景进行了展望,同时为探索一种环保型、高效型处理分银渣的工艺提出了相关建议。     

钼蓝分光光度法测定铜精矿中的二氧化硅

采用氢氧化钠熔融分解试样,在硫酸介质中,硅与钼酸铵生成硅钼黄,以抗坏血酸还原硅钼黄为钼蓝.该法快速准确,适应于铜精矿中1.0%～10.0%的测定.
