Polypropylene/aluminum–multi-walled carbon nanotube (PP/Al–CNT) composites were prepared by a twin-screw extruder. The morphology indicates that the CNTs are well embedded or implanted within Al-flakes rather than attached on the surface. During preparation of composites, the CNTs came apart from Al–CNT so that free CNTs as well as Al–CNT were observed in PP/Al–CNT composite. The crystallization temperatures of PP/CNT and PP/Al–CNT composites were increased from 111 °C for PP to 127 °C for the composites. The decomposition temperature increased by 55 °C for PP/CNT composite and 75 °C for PP/Al–CNT composite. The PP/Al–CNT composite showed higher thermal conductivity than PP/CNT and PP/Al-flake composites with increasing filler content. PP/Al–CNT composites showed the viscosity values between PP/CNT and PP/Al-flake composites. PP/Al–CNT composite showed higher tensile modulus and lower tensile strength with increasing filler content compared to PP/CNT and PP/Al-flake composites.  相似文献

Here we present recent progress on α-Al dendrite-reinforced joints of 2024 aluminum produced by the ultrasonic-assisted soldering method. In ultrasonic-assisted soldering of Al2024, pure Sn was utilized as a filler metal, the vibration frequency was 21 kHz, and the temperature was 300 °C. Interestingly, the aluminum content in the bond was up to 3.2 mass%, which is much higher than the solubility limit of aluminum in Sn at 300 °C. The evolution of the microstructure of the aluminum dendrites in bonds with different ultrasonic time was observed to investigate the dissolution behavior of 2024 Al in Sn under ultrasonic conditions. A migration model of aluminum dendrites in the bonds is proposed, which enables control of the extent of reinforcing α-Al dendrites by varying the ultrasonic time. The shear strength of the α-Al dendrite-reinforced joints is improved significantly, with the maximum shear strength approaching 60 MPa.  相似文献

The effect of thermal-shock cycles on the mechanical properties of fiber–metal laminates (FMLs) has been evaluated. FML plates were composed by two AA2024 Al sheets (1.6 mm thick) and one composite ply formed by two layers of unidirectional glass fiber epoxy prepreg and two layers of epoxy adhesive tape of glass fiber reinforced epoxy adhesive. The set was manufactured by hand layup and typical vacuum bag technique. The curing cycle was in autoclave at 125 ± 5 °C for 90 min and an autoclave pressure of 400 kPa. FML coupons taken from the manufactured plate were submitted to temperature variations between −50 and +80 °C, with a fast transition between these temperatures. Tensile and interlaminar shear strength were evaluated on samples after 1000 and 2000 cycles, and compared to nonexposed samples. 2000 Cycles corresponds to typical C Check interval for commercial aircraft maintenance programs. It was observed that the thermal-shock cycles did not result in significant microstructural changes on the FML, particularly on the composite ply. Similarly, no appreciable effect on the mechanical properties of FML was observed by the thermal-shock cycles.  相似文献

Nanostructured Al2024–multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) composites were produced using optimized mechanical milling and hot pressing methods. Nanostructured Al2024 powder was first prepared through 30 h mechanical milling of the alloy powder. MWCNTs up to 3 vol.% were added to the milled Al2024 powder and milled for different times. Differential thermal analysis (DTA) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were used to assess the structural changes and thermal behavior during mechanical milling and hot pressing. Hardness and compression tests were applied on bulk samples to evaluate their mechanical properties. Mechanical milling applied on Al2024 powders for 30 h resulted in the grain refinement to ~30 nm. DTA analysis showed an endothermic peak at ~632 °C due to Al2024 melting and an exothermic peak between 645 and 658 °C related to Al and MWCNTs reaction. Mechanical milling of nanocomposite powder for 4 h and following hot pressing at 500 °C under a pressure of 250 MPa for 0.5 h were selected as optimized conditions for bulk nanocomposite preparation. With MWCNTs addition up to 2 vol.%, relative density remained at 98%, and hardness increased to 245 HV. Compressive strength of nanocomposites found a maximum value of 810 MPa at 2 vol.% MWCNTs addition which is 78%, 34% and 12% greater than that for Al2024–O, Al2024–T6 and nanostructured Al2024, respectively.  相似文献

Mechanical and electrical properties of in-situ Al–Al2O3 metal matrix composites (MMCs) fabricated by powder metallurgy approach using different aluminium powders of particle size 0.8–21 µm and purity 99.8–99.996% were examined. Hot working powder consolidation by vacuum hot pressing at 270 °C and direct extrusion at 425 °C and reduction ratio of 7:1 were applied. Subsequently, extruded composite rods with the diameter of 7.5 mm were cold worked by groove rolling and rotary swaging to the wires with the diameter of 1.1 mm. Detailed microstructural characterization of composite materials was carried out. Stress-strain characteristics of composite wires were measured at 77 and 300 K. In addition, resistivity of all wires were measured by four-probe method between 25 and 300 K and eddy current losses at frequency 72 Hz and temperatures between 18 and 77 K. Obtained results clearly showed that properly designed Al–Al2O3 MMC materials can be utilized at low temperatures e.g., for the thermal stabilization of superconducting wires.  相似文献

SiCp/TiNif/Al composite with 20 Vol.% TiNi fibers were fabricated by pressure infiltration method. The effect of volume fraction of SiC particle on the mechanical properties and damping capacity of the composite were studied. Four different volume fractions of SiC particle in the composite were 0%, 5%, 20% and 35% respectively. The microstructure and damping capacity of the composites was studied by SEM and DMA respectively. As the gliding of dislocation in the Al matrix was hindered by SiC particle, the yield strength and elastic modulus of the composites increased, while the elongation decreased with the increase in volume fraction of SiC particle. Furthermore, the damping capacity of the composites at room temperature was decreased when the mount of strain was more than 1 × 10−4. In the heating process, the damping peak at the temperature of 135 °C was attributed to the reverse martensitic transformation from B19′ to B2 in the TiNi fibers.  相似文献

Aluminum composites reinforced with CNTs were fabricated by pressureless infiltration process and the tribological properties of the composites were investigated. Al has been infiltrated into CNTs–Mg–Al preform by pressureless infiltration in N2 atmosphere at 800 °C. By means of scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDS), it was found that CNTs are well dispersed and embedded in the Al matrix. The friction and wear behaviors of the composite were investigated using a pin-on-disk wear tester under unlubricated condition. The tests were conducted at a sliding speed of 0.1571 m/s under an applied load of 30 N. The experimental results indicated that the friction coefficient of the composite decreased with increasing the volume fraction of CNTs due to the self-lubrication and unique topological structure of CNTs. Within the range of CNTs volume fraction from 0% to 20%, the wear rate of the composite decreased steadily with the increase of CNTs content in the composite. The favorable effects of CNTs on wear resistance are attributed to their excellent mechanical properties, being well dispersed in the composite and the efficiency of the reinforcement of CNTs.  相似文献

Heat treatment with different parameters were performed on the hot-hydrostatically extruded and swaged 3.5 vol.% TiBw/Ti6Al4V composites tubes. The results indicate that the primary α phase volume fraction decreases and transformed β phase correspondingly increases with increasing solution temperatures. The α + β phases will grow into coarse α phases when the aging temperature is higher than 600 °C. The hardness and ultimate tensile strength of the as-swaged TiBw/Ti6Al4V composite tubes increase with increasing quenching temperatures from 900 to 990 °C, while they decrease with increasing aging temperatures from 550 to 650 °C. A superior combination of ultimate tensile strength (1388 MPa) and elongation (6.1%) has been obtained by quenching at 960 °C and aging at 550 °C for 6 h. High temperature tensile tests at 400–600 °C show that the dominant failure modes at high temperatures also differ from those at room temperature.  相似文献

In this paper, tribological behavior and mechanical properties of nanostructured Al2024 alloy produced by mechanical milling and hot extrusion were investigated before and after adding B4C particles. Mechanical milling was used to synthesize the nanostructured Al2024 in attrition mill under argon atmosphere up to 50 h. A similar process was used to produce Al2024–5 wt.%B4C composite powder. The milled powders were formed by hot pressing and then were exposed to hot extrusion in 750 °C with extrusion ratio of 10:1. To study the microstructure of milled powders and hot extruded samples, optical microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with an energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDS) were used. The mechanical properties of samples were also compared together using tension, compression and hardness tests. The wear properties of samples were studied using pin-on-disk apparatus under a 20 N load. The results show that mechanical milling decreases the size of aluminum matrix grains to less than 100 nm. The results of mechanical and wear tests also indicate that mechanical milling and adding B4C particles increase strength, hardness and wear resistance of Al2024 and decrease its ductility remarkably.  相似文献

In this study, strain rate and low temperature dependencies of the viscoelastic behaviour of the T700GC/M21 composite material are characterised and analysed. Dynamic tests for various environmental temperatures are performed on hydraulic jack equipped with an environmental chamber. Three speeds, between 8.33 · 10−4 m s−1 and 0.5 m s−1, at three temperatures (20 °C, −40 °C and −100 °C) are tested. The increase of the shear modulus with the decrease of the temperature is more pronounced between −40 °C and −100 °C than between 20 °C and −40 °C. Complementary DMA (Dynamic Mechanical Analysis) tests are performed on the M21 epoxy resin to characterise the viscoelastic behaviour of the matrix which contributes to the viscoelastic behaviour of the laminate. DMA tests highlight a low temperature transition called β transition (−67 °C for the 1 Hz test) which is responsible of the larger increase of the storage modulus, for the epoxy matrix, between −40 °C and −100 °C. Consequently the β transition could also be at the origin, for the composite, of the observed larger increase of the shear modulus with respect to the strain rate, for strain rates higher than 10 s−1.  相似文献

Effects of frequency on fatigue behavior of a chemical vapor infiltrated carbon fiber reinforced silicon carbide composite (C/SiC) were investigated at an elevated temperature of 550 °C. Tension–tension fatigue tests were conducted at three frequencies: 0.1, 10 and 375 Hz to establish stress versus cycles to failure (S–N) relationships. There was an increase in cycles to failure at a given stress level as frequency increased from 0.1 to 375 Hz at elevated temperature. This trend was different at room temperature where cycles to failure decreased when frequency changed from 40 to 375 Hz but remained almost same below 40 Hz. There was a reduction in cycles to failure at frequencies less than 40 Hz but cycles to failure remained same at a higher frequency of 375 Hz when test environment changed from room temperature to 550 °C. Analysis of damage mechanisms showed that the oxidation of carbon fibers was the major difference between the room and elevated temperatures, which caused a reduction in cycles to failure with lower frequencies at elevated temperature in comparison to that at room temperature. However, oxidation of carbon fibers was almost absent or negligible at higher frequency at elevated temperature, which caused practically no reduction in cycles to failure at elevated temperature in comparison to their counterparts at room temperature.  相似文献

In this study, object oriented finite element method (OOF) has been utilized to compute the thermal conductivity of plasma sprayed Al-12 wt.% Si containing 10 wt.% multiwall carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The computations have been made at micro- and macro-length scales which highlight the effect of CNT dispersion on thermal conductivity. Experimentally measured values at 50 °C indicate that CNT addition reduced the thermal conductivity of Al–Si matrix from 73 W m−1 K−1 to 25.4 W m−1 K−1 which is attributed to the presence of CNT clusters. OOF calculations at micro-length scale predicted an 81% increase in the conductivity of Al–Si matrix due to presence of well dispersed CNTs inside the matrix. At larger lengths scale, the decrease in the overall conductivity is related to the extremely low conductivity of CNT clusters. Thermal conductivity of CNT clusters could be up to three orders of magnitude lower than individual CNTs. OOF computed values match well with experimental results. OOF compute thermal conductivity of Al–CNT composite is also compared with theoretical two-phase models for CNT-composites at different length scales.  相似文献

Polyacrylate composites with various fillers such as multi-walled carbon nanotube (CNT), aluminum flake (Al-flake), aluminum powders and Al–CNT were prepared by a ball milling. The thermal decomposition temperature increased by as much as 64 °C for polyacrylate/Al-flake 70 wt% composite compared to polyacrylate. The thermal conductivity of polyacrylate/Al–CNT composites increased from 0.50 to 1.67 W/m K as the Al–CNT content increases from 50 to 80 wt%. The thermal conductivity of the composite sheet increases with the sheet thickness. At the given filler concentration (90 wt%), the composite filled with aluminum powder of 13 μm has a higher thermal conductivity than the one filled 3 μm powder, and the composite filled with mixture of two powders showed a synergistic effect on the thermal conductivity. The morphology indicates that the dispersion of CNT in the polyacrylate/Al-flake + CNT composite is not perfect, and agglomeration of CNTs was observed.  相似文献

Ultrasound-assisted brazing of Cu/Al dissimilar metals was performed using a Zn–3Al filler metal. The effects of brazing temperature on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Cu/Al joints were investigated. Results showed that excellent metallurgic bonding could be obtained in the fluxless brazed Cu/Al joints with the assistance of ultrasonic vibration. In the joint brazed at 400 °C, the filler metal layer showed a non-uniform microstructure and a thick CuZn5 IMC layer was found on the Cu interface. Increasing the brazing temperature to 440 °C, however, leaded to a refined and dispersed microstructure of the filler metal layer and to a thin Al4.2Cu3.2Zn0.7 serrate structure in the Cu interfacial IMC layer. Further increasing the brazing temperature to 480 °C resulted in the coarsening of the filler metal and the significantly growth of the Al4.2Cu3.2Zn0.7 IMC layer into a dendrite structure. Nanoindentation tests showed that the hardness of the Al4.2Cu3.2Zn0.7 and CuZn5 phase was 11.4 and 4.65 GPa, respectively. Tensile strength tests showed that all the Cu/Al joints were failed in the Cu interfacial regions. The joint brazed at 440 °C exhibited the highest tensile strength of 78.93 MPa.  相似文献

For the first stage, a metastable β titanium alloy, Ti–3.5Al–5Mo–4V–2Cr–2Sn–2Zr–1Fe reinforced with trace amounts of TiB whiskers and TiC particles was fabricated by vacuum arc melting process and hot forging followed by heat treatment at 780 °C/740 °C, then by aging at 500 °C, 550 °C, 570 °C and 600 °C. For the second stage, the unreinforced titanium alloy was also fabricated by the same process. The microstructural characteristics were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Traces of TiB whiskers and TiC particles (2.2 vol.%) with a volume ratio of 2:3 synthesized in situ exerted a hybrid reinforcing effect on the β titanium alloy. The reinforcements were uniformly distributed in the matrix and the elastic modulus was improved about 25 GPa. Ultimate tensile strength and yield strength achieves about 1625 MPa and 1500MPa respectively, with ductility at 7% when the aging temperature is 500 °C. The ductility of (TiB + TiC)/(Ti–3.5Al–5Mo–4 V–2Cr–2Sn–2Zr–1Fe) matrix composite could be enhanced by increasing the aging temperatures. After 780 °C followed by aging at 570 °C, excellent strength and plasticity properties were obtained (ultimate tensile strength of matrix alloy is 1350 MPa with elongation of 18% and ultimate tensile strength of composite is 1500 MPa with elongation of 13%).  相似文献

A method of in situ joining of titanium to SiC/Al composites by low pressure infiltration was proposed. The effect of infiltration temperature on microstructure and bending strength of in situ joining composites was investigated and the best infiltration temperature was confirmed to be 710 °C. The interfacial region of SiC/Al/Ti composites was consisted of Ti substrate, Al–Ti interfacial layer, Al layer and SiC/Al composite. The bending strength of SiC/Al composites kept nearly constant as the infiltration temperature changed while that of SiC/Al/Ti composites was influenced significantly by the infiltration temperature. The fracture occurred at the Al–Ti and Al–SiC/Al interfaces alternately as infiltrated at 670 °C. But as the infiltration temperature was increased to 710 °C, the fracture occurred only at the Al–SiC/Al interface which shows a great interfacial bonding at the Al–Ti interface. The formation of Al–Ti brittle intermetallics and the effect of crystallization and grain coarsening are two possible reasons which lead to the decrease of bending strength when the infiltration temperatures were increased from 710 °C to 730 °C.  相似文献

A metal matrix composite has been obtained by a novel synthesis route, reacting Al3Ti and graphite at 1000 °C for about 1 min after ball-milling and compaction. The resulting composite is made of an aluminium matrix reinforced by nanometer sized TiC particles (average diameter 70 nm). The average TiC/Al ratio is 34.6 wt.% (22.3 vol.%). The microstructure consists of an intimate mixture of two domains, an unreinforced domain made of the Al solid solution with a low TiC reinforcement content, and a reinforced domain. This composite exhibits uncommon mechanical properties with regard to previous micrometer sized Al–TiC composites and to its high reinforcement volume fraction, with a Young’s modulus of ∼110 GPa, an ultimate tensile strength of about 500 MPa and a maximum elongation of 6%.  相似文献

Structural characterizations based on transmission electron microscopy observations were carried out on as-fabricated and heat-treated Al-2024/TiC composites. These composites types reinforced with TiC particles were produced with a pressureless melt infiltration route at 1200 °C for 2 h under argon atmosphere. The composites were heat-treated at 530 °C during 150 min, cold-water quenched and subsequently artificial and natural aged at 190 °C for 12 h in an argon environment and at room temperature for 96 h, respectively. Different precipitate types were obtained and they were identified as CuAl2, Al3Ti, Ti3AlC and Ti3Al. Most of the precipitates were found to be uniformly distributed in the matrix and some regions show precipitates which have a cubic morphology (Ti3Cu). High-resolution electron microscopy images were partially used for the characterization of the precipitates in these composites.  相似文献

The interface between metal matrix and ceramic reinforcement particles plays an important role in improving properties of the metal matrix composites. Hence, it is important to find out the interface structure of composite after re-melting. In the present investigation, the 2124Al matrix with 10 wt.% SiC particle reinforced composite was re-melted at 800 °C and 900 °C for 10 min followed by pouring into a permanent mould. The microstructures reveal that the SiC particles are distributed throughout the Al-matrix. The volume fraction of SiC particles varies from top to bottom of the composite plate and the difference increases with the decrease of re-melting temperature. The interfacial structure of re-melted 2124Al–10 wt.%SiC composite was investigated using scanning electron microscopy, an electron probe micro-analyzer, a scanning transmission electron detector fitted with scanning electron microscopy and an X-ray energy dispersive spectrometer. It is found that a thick layer of reaction product is formed at the interface of composite after re-melting. The experimental results show that the reaction products at the interface are associated with high concentration of Cu, Mg, Si and C. At re-melting temperature, liquid Al reacts with SiC to form Al4C3 and Al–Si eutectic phase or elemental Si at the interface. High concentration of Si at the interface indicates that SiC is dissociated during re-melting. The X-ray energy dispersive spectrometer analyses confirm that Mg- and Cu-enrich phases are formed at the interface region. The Mg is segregated at the interface region and formed MgAl2O4 in the presence of oxygen. The several elements identified at the interface region indicate that different types of interfaces are formed in between Al matrix and SiC particles. The Al–Si eutectic phase is formed around SiC particles during re-melting which restricts the SiC dissolution.  相似文献

The effect of Cu with low contents of 10, 12, 15 wt.% on the microstructure and melting point of Al–Si–Cu–Ni alloy has been investigated. Results showed that low-melting-point properties of Al–Si–Cu–Ni alloys with low contents of Cu were attributed to disappearance of Al–Si binary eutectic reaction and introduction of Al–Si–Cu–Ni quaternary reaction. With raising Cu content from 10 to 15 wt.%, the amount of complex eutectic phases formed during low temperature reactions (Al–Cu, Al–Si–Cu and Al–Si–Cu–Ni alloy reactions) increased and the melting temperature of Al–Si–Cu–Ni filler metals declined. Brazing of 6061 aluminum alloy with Al–10Si–15Cu–4Ni (all in wt.%) filler metal of a melting temperature range from 519.3 to 540.2 °C has been carried out successfully at 570 °C. Sound joints can be obtained with Al–10Si–15Cu–4Ni filler metal when brazed at 570 °C for holding time of 60 min or more, and achieved high shear strength up to 144.4 MPa.  相似文献
