The role played by an externally added solid lubricant like graphite towards controlling the sliding wear behaviour of a zinc-based alloy has been examined in this study. The influence of dispersing hard silicon carbide particles in the alloy was also investigated by testing the composite in identical test conditions. The wear performance of the zinc-based alloy and its composite was compared with that of a gray cast iron. Wear tests were performed in oil lubricated environment. Composition of the lubricant was changed by adding various quantities of graphite (particles) to the oil. The study suggests that the wear response (in terms of wear rate, frictional heating and friction coefficient) of the samples improved in the presence of suspended graphite particles in the oil lubricant. However, this improvement was noticed up to a critical content of graphite particles only and the trend reversed at still higher graphite contents. The zinc-based (matrix) alloy revealed highest wear rate. Dispersoid silicon carbide particles showed a significant improvement in the wear performance of the matrix alloy. The cast iron performed in between the matrix alloy and composite. The frictional heating and friction coefficient were the highest for the composite while the cast iron and the matrix alloy showed a mixed response. Examinations of wear surfaces, subsurface regions and debris particles helped to substantiate the observed wear response of the samples.  相似文献

Abstract

Wear behaviour of a zinc based alloy has been studied in partially lubricated condition. The test environment comprised a mixture of oil plus graphite/talc particles. The composition of the lubricant mixture was varied by changing the concentration of the solid lubricant particles suspended in the oil lubricant. Wear response of the alloy was noted to improve in terms of decreased wear rate, frictional heating and friction coefficient initially with the increasing concentration of the solid lubricant particles suspended in the oil lubricant. A critical content of the solid lubricant led to the best wear performance of the samples. This was followed by a reversal in the trend at concentrations of the solid lubricant particles in the lubricant mixture that were greater than the critical one. Wear behaviour of the alloy has been substantiated through the characteristics of wear surfaces, subsurface regions and debris particles.  相似文献

This study pertains to the examination of sliding wear behaviour of a gray cast iron over a range of sliding speeds and applied pressures in dry and (oil and oil plus graphite) lubricated conditions. Wear properties characterized were wear rate and frictional heating. The cast iron revealed various forms and sizes of graphite particles in a matrix of pearlite and limited quantity of free ferrite. Different solidification patterns, as controlled by the chemical composition and/or carbon equivalent of the alloy and rate of cooling, were thought to be responsible for the varying morphology of the graphite phase formed in the material matrix. Occasional decohesion of graphite at ferrite/graphite interfacial regions was also observed.The wear rate of the cast iron increased with the speed and pressure of sliding due to increasing severity of wear condition. The specimens tended to lose proper contact with the disc at larger pressures when slid dry. This was attributed to severe cracking tendency of the material. On the contrary, specimen seizure was noticed in the oil and oil plus graphite lubricated conditions; the seizure resistance (pressure) decreased with sliding speed in presence of the lubricants. The wear rate versus pressure plots attained different slopes, i.e. the rate of increase in wear rate with pressure, depending on the test environment. One slope and inappreciable effect of pressure on wear rate were noticed due to substantial cracking tendency of the cast iron when tested in dry condition. In the oil lubricated condition also, virtually one slope was observed but it was higher than that in dry condition indicating greater sensitivity of wear rate towards the applied pressure. Also, the samples attained lower wear rate in oil than in dry condition in view of suppressed cracking tendency causing more stable lubricating film formation in presence of the oil lubricant. Addition of graphite particles to the oil lubricant caused a further reduction in wear rate because of the enhanced possibility of a more stable lubricant film formation due to smearing of the graphite particles. In this case, the slope of the wear rate versus pressure plots was the least in the intermediate range of pressures irrespective of the sliding speed owing to more stable lubricating film formation.A higher rate of temperature increase with test duration (intermediate sliding distance) in the beginning was attributed to the abrasive action of the hard debris generated through the fragmentation of the initially contacting asperities. A subsequently observed lower rate of increase at longer durations could be owing to the occurrence of mild wear condition in view of less stressing of the contacting asperities and increased stability of the lubricant film formed. Increase in the rate of frictional heating at still longer durations resulted from destabilization of the lubricating film.Frictional heating increased with applied pressure and sliding speed in view of increasing severity of wear condition. The rate of increase in frictional heating was low initially up to a specific pressure followed by a higher rate of increase at still larger pressures when the tests were conducted in oil plus graphite at both the sliding speeds and in the oil lubricant at the lower speed. A constant (high) rate of increase in frictional heating with pressure was noticed in the dry condition at both the sliding speeds and in the oil lubricant at the higher speed. Low rate of frictional heating with pressure was attributed to the occurrence of mild wear condition while a higher rate of frictional heating with pressure resulted from the occurrence of severe wear condition. As far as the influence of test environment on frictional heating is concerned, least frictional heat was generated in the oil plus graphite lubricant mixture while the maximum was noticed in dry condition, intermediate response of the samples being observed in oil. Formation of more stable lubricating film was thought to be responsible for lower frictional heating in the lubricated conditions; the presence of graphite in the oil lubricant increased the extent of lubricating film formation and stability of the film so formed.The wear response of the samples has been explained in terms of cracking tendency and lubricating effects of graphite, predominance of the counteracting effects of the two parameters over each other, and lubricating film formation by the external oil (plus graphite) lubricant on the sliding surfaces in specific test conditions. Characterization of wear surfaces, subsurface regions and debris particles of the material enabled to further substantiate the observed wear performance of the samples.  相似文献

This study pertains to the observations made during the sliding wear response of a zinc-based alloy in different test conditions. The effects of sliding speed and load on the wear behaviour of the alloy have been studied. The properties evaluated were wear rate, frictional heating and coefficient of friction. The wear performance of the zinc-based alloy has been compared with that of a conventional cast iron in identical test conditions. The wear rate of the samples increased with applied load and sliding speed while the seizure resistance (load) deteriorated with speed. The zinc-based alloy exhibited less wear rate and reduced frictional heating than that of the cast iron while friction coefficient followed a reverse trend. Observed wear response of the samples has been discussed in terms of specific features like lubricating, load carrying, microcracking and thermal stability of various microconstituents of the samples, and substantiated further through the features of wear surfaces, subsurface regions and debris.  相似文献

Pin-on-disc tests to investigate the tribological behavior of AlCoCrFeNiCu high-entropy alloy under lubrication conditions with 90% hydrogen peroxide solution and lubricant oil, respectively, were performed. The study demonstrates that the AlCoCrFeNiCu high-entropy alloy lubricated correspondingly with lubricant of 90% hydrogen peroxide solution (hereafter termed hydrogen peroxide lubricant) and lubricant oil significantly improves its friction and wear-resistance properties. Results showed that the friction coefficient, after a grinding stage, of the rubbing pair was lower than that with normal lubricant oil. The AlCoCrFeNiCu alloy in the lubricant with 90% hydrogen peroxide solution and lubricant oil exhibits a high resistance to wear. Analysis of the worn surface revealed that the AlCoCrFeNiCu high-entropy alloy lubricated with the hydrogen peroxide lubricant exhibited signs of inhomogeneous polishing oxidation and abrasive wear, with the wear mechanism changing with sliding distance, while the rubbing pair in normal lubricant oil is mainly dominated by abrasive wear.  相似文献

The sliding wear behaviour of cenosphere-filled aluminum syntactic foam (ASF) has been studied in comparison with that of 10 wt% SiC particle reinforced aluminum matrix composite (AMC) at a load of 3 kg and varying sliding speeds under dry and lubricated conditions using a pin-on disc test apparatus. The tribological responses such as the wear rate, the coefficient of friction and the frictional heating were investigated. The wear surfaces and subsurfaces were studied for understanding the wear mechanism. It was noted that the coefficient of friction, the wear rate, and the temperature rise for ASF are less than that for AMC in both dry and lubricated conditions. The craters (vis-à-vis exposed cenospheres) play an important role in the wear mechanism for ASF.  相似文献

The influence of graphite content on the dry sliding wear characteristics of Al6061/Gr composites along with Al6061/30SiC/Gr hybrid composites has been assessed using a pin-on-disc wear test. The composites with different volume fraction of graphite particles up to 13% were processed by in situ powder metallurgy (IPM) technique. The porosity and hardness of the resultant composites were also examined. It was found that an increase in the graphite content reduced the porosity, hardness, and friction coefficient of both types of composites. The hybrid composites were more porous and exhibited higher hardness and lower coefficient of friction at identical graphite contents. The increased graphite content in the range of 0–13 vol.% resulted in increased wear rate of Al/Gr composites. The Al/30SiC composite exhibited a lower wear rate as compared with the base alloy and graphite addition up to 9 vol.% improved the wear resistance of these hybrid composites. However, more graphite particles addition resulted in increased wear rate. SEM micrographs revealed that the wear mechanism was changed from mostly adhesive in the base alloy sample (Al/0Gr) to the prominently abrasive and delamination wear for Al/Gr and Al/SiC/Gr/composites.  相似文献

The investigation of lubricated friction and wear is an extended study. The aim of this study is to investigate the friction and wear characteristics of double fractionated palm oil (DFPO) as a biolubricant using a pin-on-disk tribotester under loads of 50 and 100 N with rotating speeds of 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 ms?1 in a 1-h operation time. In this study, hydraulic oil and engine oil (SAE 40) were used as reference base lubricants. The experiment was conducted using aluminum pins and an SKD 11(alloy tool steel) disc lubricated with test lubricants. To investigate the wear and friction behavior, images of the worn surface were taken by optical microscopy. From the experimental results, the coefficient of friction (COF) rose when the sliding speed and load were high. In addition, the wear rate for a load of 100 N for all lubricants was almost always higher compared to lubricant with a load of 50 N. The results of this experiment reveal that the palm oil lubricant can be used as a lubricating oil, which would help to reduce the global demand for petroleum-based lubricants substantially.  相似文献

In this paper the interaction of lubricant additives with hydrogen at the frictional interface has been investigated. Three different states of the base AISI 52100 alloy steel have been tested: untreated, nitrided and sulphonitrided, with different combinations of PAO6 base oil and ZDDP/MoDTC (Zinc DialkylDithioPhosphate and Molybdenum Dialkyldithiocarbamate) additives. Experiments have been carried out on pin-on-plate reciprocating tester, immersed in the lubricant heated to 100 °C. In the boundary lubricated regime the results showed the best friction behaviour for treated surfaces tested in presence of PAO6 with additives suggesting some interaction at the frictional interface of nitrided and sulphonitrided surfaces with lubricant additives. The minimum recorded value of coefficient of friction was as low as 0.05 for the sulphonitrided sample with PAO6+MoDTC oil. In the case of the treated surfaces a characteristic “low friction phase” has been observed when tested with PAO6 with additives. After a given time, the coefficient of friction was increasing to a higher steady-state value and the duration of this low friction phase varied from sample to sample. This can be explained by the mechanism of hydrogen interaction in the boundary lubrication regime, which was postulated for the base oil case by some of the authors in their previous papers. To validate the hypothesis, an experiment has been carried out where the test was stopped at the end of the “low friction phase” and during the hold period the sample was re-saturated with hydrogen. After resuming the experiment the low friction regime was again observed. The effect of a potential synergistic mechanism between hydrogen and ZDDP or MoDTC lubricant additives on frictional behaviour of nitrided and sulphonitrided surfaces is discussed in this paper.  相似文献

采用盘销式摩擦磨损试验机,对SiCp含量为20vol%的铝基复合材料和Kevlar增强摩擦材料组成的摩擦副在于摩擦条件下的摩擦磨损机理进行了实验研究。结果表明:摩擦副在跑合过程中,铝基复合材料中的SiCp颗粒对较软的有机复合材料产生犁削和微观切削效应,磨损机理为铝基复合材料的硬质颗粒对较软的有机复合材料的磨粒磨损;在跑合后的磨损试验中,摩擦材料磨损表面呈现出粘着磨损和塑性变形特征,随着转动速度的增加,塑性流动加剧;摩擦副接触表面发生材料的相互转移,并在铝基复合材料表面形成转移膜,且在较高速度下转移膜更易形成;在高速条件下,摩擦材料表面可见从铝基复合材料的铝合金基体中脱离的SiCp颗粒和熔融迹象;摩擦材料的磨损机理主要为磨粒磨损、粘着磨损和塑性变形。  相似文献

利用MMS-2A磨损试验机模拟轮轨系统在润滑油、二硫化钼锂基脂、植物油和石墨钙基脂4种润滑剂润滑下的摩擦与磨损行为,研究润滑剂对轮轨副摩擦、磨损特性的影响.结果表明:与干态相比,4种润滑剂均使摩擦副的摩擦因数减小,表面磨痕深度减小,磨损量降低,其中石墨钙基脂的减摩和抗磨效果最好;试验结束后,轮轨试样接触表面的硬度均有不同程度的增加,其中涂有石墨钙基脂的轮轨试样的表面硬度增加最小.  相似文献

The purpose of this study is to investigate the wear properties of Saffil/Al, Saffil/Al2O3/Al and Saffil/SiC/Al hybrid metal matrix composites (MMCs) fabricated by squeeze casting method. Wear tests were done on a pin-on-disk friction and wear tester under both dry and lubricated conditions. The wear properties of the three composites were evaluated in many respects. The effects of Saffil fibers, Al2O3 particles and SiC particles on the wear behavior of the composites were elucidated. Wear mechanisms were analyzed by observing the worn surfaces of the composites. The variation of coefficient of friction (COF) during the wear process was recorded by using a computer. Under dry sliding condition, Saffil/SiC/Al showed the best wear resistance under high temperature and high load, while the wear resistances of Saffil/Al and Saffil/Al2O3/Al were very similar. Under dry sliding condition, the dominant wear mechanism was abrasive wear under mild load and room temperature, and the dominant wear mechanism changed to adhesive wear as load or temperature increased. Molten wear occurred at high temperature. Compared with the dry sliding condition, all three composites showed excellent wear resistance when lubricated by liquid paraffin. Under lubricated condition, Saffil/Al showed the best wear resistance among them, and its COF value was the smallest. The dominant wear mechanism of the composites under lubricated condition was microploughing, but microcracking also occurred to them to different extents.  相似文献

The objective of this investigation is to assess the influence of graphite reinforcement on tribological behavior of ZA-27 alloy. The composite with 2 wt% of graphite particles was produced by the compocasting procedure. Tribological properties of unreinforced alloy and composite were studied, using block-on-disk tribometer, under dry and lubricated sliding conditions at different specific loads and sliding speeds. The worn surfaces of the samples were examined by the scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The obtained results revealed that ZA-27/graphite composite specimens exhibited significantly lower wear rate and coefficient of friction than the matrix alloy specimens in all the combinations of applied loads (F n ) and sliding speeds (v) in dry and lubricated tests. The positive tribological effects of graphite reinforcement of ZA-27 in dry sliding tests were provided by the tribo-induced graphite film on the contact surface of composite. In test conditions, characterized by the small graphite content and modest sliding speeds and applied loads, nonuniform tribo-induced graphite films were formed leading to the increase of the friction coefficient and wear rate, with increase of the sliding speed and applied load. In conditions of lubricated sliding, the very fine graphite particles formed in the contact interface mix with the lubricating oil forming the emulsion with improved tribological characteristics. Smeared graphite decreased the negative influence of F n on tribological response of composites, what is manifested by the mild regime of the boundary lubrication, as well as by realization of the mixed lubrication at lower values of the v/F n ratio, with respect to the matrix alloy.  相似文献

为了提高钛及钛合金钻具在超深钻探、深海钻探和外太空钻探工程中的减摩抗磨性能。利用激光表面加工技术在工业纯钛(TA2)表面制备了不同参数的点阵微织构。采用MS-T3000摩擦磨损试验机测试了微织构钛合金在不同粒度模拟月壤作用下的摩擦学性能。利用扫描电子显微镜和能谱分析仪分析磨痕形貌及元素含量。研究结果表明:当磨料粒度小于微织构点阵的直径时,磨料压入微织构点阵里,磨料具有滚动和滑动两种运动方式。当粒度大于微织构点阵的直径时,磨料不能完全压入微织构点阵里,磨料对微织构TA2表面产生了滑动犁削作用。由于两种磨料磨损的作用机理不同,同等条件下,小粒度的磨料作用下的微织构TA2的摩擦因数和磨损率较大粒度磨粒作用下的最大减少量分别为50%和53%。考虑磨料粒度与微结构的匹配性,可以大大降低摩擦减少磨损。  相似文献

Wear behavior of Al–Si alloys reinforced with SiC particulate has been investigated under dry and lubricated reciprocating sliding conditions using a ball-on-block wear test method. It was shown that in the dry sliding wear of the composite/steel ball system, the wear mechanism of the composite was predominantly adhesive. With further sliding motion, delamination and abrasive wear occurred as a result of fracture and debonding of the SiC particles. Under lubricated conditions, the wear rate of the composite was drastically reduced due to the presence of the lubricant, and a boundary lubrication condition existed and dominated the normal wear process. The debonding of the SiC particles from the matrix of the composite was a predominant factor in determining the wear loss of the composite in the boundary lubrication sliding process. Recent research on tribology in Japan is outlined. There have been many papers on the following problems.

In fluid film lubrication, the effects of surface irregularities on the lubricating performance and increase in friction in high speed bearings due to turbulent flow are highlighted to date. Elastohydrodynamic lubrication and its related problems such as traction play an important role in the lubrication of cams and followers, rolling contact bearings and traction drives. The rheology of lubricants at high pressures is one of the most important properties governing lubricated concentrated contacts. Regarding basic studies on wear, the mechanism of the adhesive wear process is being studied. It is interesting to investigate the deformation behaviours of materials and structures by finite element methods. The friction and wear characteristics of plastics and their composites have been studied in basic terms.

The chemical reactions of lubricating oil additives with frictional surfaces play important roles in lubricated concentrated contacts. Recently there have been many studies on the correlation between the lubricating properties and the chemical reactivity of lubricant additives. It is very interesting that there are many papers on the mutual effects between lubricant additives.  相似文献

研究了蓖麻油加入二硫化钼、铝粉、石墨等添加剂后摩擦磨损性能以及极压性能的变化。用四球摩擦磨损试验机进行对比实验,研究了二硫化钼、铝粉、石墨、磁流体对摩擦因数、磨损的影响。结果表明:(1)蓖麻油为基础油,添加二硫化钼等添加剂,能提高蓖麻油的减摩、抗磨和极压性能。(2)含MoS210 g/L,A l粉30 g/L,石墨50 g/L的蓖麻油其减摩、抗磨和极压性能最好。(3)二硫化钼能起到极压添加剂的作用;A l粉能提高润滑油的稳定性;石墨含量是影响润滑剂摩擦因数最主要因素。  相似文献
