Fuel economy of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
On the basis of on-road energy consumption, fuel economy (FE) of hydrogen fuel cell light-duty vehicles is projected to be 2.5–2.7 times the fuel economy of the conventional gasoline internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEV) on the same platforms. Even with a less efficient but higher power density 0.6 V per cell than the base case 0.7 V per cell at the rated power point, the hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are projected to offer essentially the same fuel economy multiplier. The key to obtaining high fuel economy as measured on standardized urban and highway drive schedules lies in maintaining high efficiency of the fuel cell (FC) system at low loads. To achieve this, besides a high performance fuel cell stack, low parasitic losses in the air management system (i.e., turndown and part load efficiencies of the compressor–expander module) are critical.  相似文献

This paper presents the design and simulation validation of two energy management strategies for dual-stack fuel cell electric vehicles. With growing concerns about environmental issues and the fossil energy crisis, finding alternative methods for vehicle propulsion is necessary. Proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell systems are now considered to be one of the most promising alternative energy sources. In this work, the challenge of further improving the fuel economy and extending the driving range of a fuel cell vehicle is addressed by a dual-stack fuel cell system with specific energy management strategies. An efficiency optimization strategy and an instantaneous optimization strategy are proposed. Simulation validation for each strategy is conducted based on a dual-stack fuel cell electric vehicle model which follows the new European driving cycle (NEDC). Simulation results show that a dual-stack fuel cell system with proposed energy management strategies can significantly improve the fuel economy of a fuel cell vehicle and thus lengthen the driving range while being able to keep the start-stop frequency of the fuel cell stack within a reasonable range.  相似文献

The two primary challenges preventing the commercialization of fuel cell hybrid electric vehicles (FCHEV) are their high cost and limited lifespan. Improper use usage can could also hasten the breakdown of proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). This paper proposes a new cost-minimizing power-allocating technique with fuel cell/battery health-aware control to optimize the economic potential of fuel cell/battery hybrid buses. The proposed framework quantifies the fuel cell (FC) deterioration of the whole working zone in a real hybrid electric bus using a long short-term memory network (LSTM), which reduces the time required to get the key lifetime parameters. A new FC lifespan model is embedded into the control framework, together with a battery aging model, to balance hydrogen consumption and energy source durability. In addition, in the speed prediction step, an enhanced online Markov prediction approach with stochastic disturbances is presented to increase the forecast accuracy for future disturbances. Finally, comparative analysis is used to verify the efficacy of the suggested approach, which shows that when compared to the benchmark method, the proposed strategy may extend the FC lifetime and lower operating costs by 5.04% and 3.76%, respectively.  相似文献

Traditional optimization-based energy management strategies (EMSs) do not consider the uncertainty of driving cycle induced by the change of traffic conditions, this paper proposes a robust online EMS (ROEMS) for fuel cell hybrid electric vehicles (FCHEV) to handle the uncertain driving cycles. The energy consumption model of the FCHEV is built by considering the power loss of fuel cell, battery, electric motor, and brake. An offline linear programming-based method is proposed to produce the benchmark solution. The ROEMS instantaneously minimizes the equivalent power of fuel cell and battery, where an equivalent efficiency of battery is defined as the efficiency of hydrogen energy transforming to battery energy. To control the state of charge of battery, two control coefficients are introduced to adjust the power of battery in objective function. Another penalty coefficient is used to amend the power of fuel cell, which reduces the load change of fuel cell so as to slow the degradation of fuel cell. The simulation results indicate that ROEMS has good performance in both fuel economy and load change control of fuel cell. The most important advantage of ROEMS is its robustness and adaptivity, because it almost produces the optimal solution without changing the control parameters when driving cycles are changed.  相似文献

This paper presents an adaptive supervisory control strategy for a fuel cell/battery-powered city bus to fulfill the complex road conditions in Beijing bus routes. An equivalent consumption minimization strategy (ECMS) is firstly proposed to optimize the fuel economy. The adaptive supervisory control strategy is exploited based on this, incorporating an estimating algorithm for the vehicle accessorial power, an algorithm for the battery charge-sustaining and a Recursive Least Squares (RLS) algorithm for fuel cell performance identification. Finally, an adaptive supervisory controller (ASC) considering the fuel consumption minimization, the battery charge-sustaining and the fuel cell durability has been implemented within the hybrid city buses. Results in the “China city bus typical cycle” testing and the demonstrational program of Beijing bus routes are presented, demonstrating that this approach provides an improvement of fuel economy along with robustness and ease of implementation. However, the fuel cell system does not leave much room for the optimal strategy to promote the fuel economy. Benefits may also result in a prolongation of the fuel cell working life, which needs to be verified in future.  相似文献

Transportation sector is the important sector and consumed the most fossil fuel in the world. Since COVID-19 started in 2019, this sector had become the world connector because every country relies on logistics. The transportation sector does not only deal with the human transportation but also relates to logistics. Research in every country has searched for alternative transportation to replace internal combustion engines using fossil fuel, one of the most prominent choices is fuel cells. Fuel cells can use hydrogen as fuel. Hydrogen can be fed to the fuel cells to provide electric power to drive vehicles, no greenhouse gas emission and no direct combustion required. The fuel cells have been developed widely as the 21st century energy-conservation devices for mobile, stationary, and especially vehicles. The fuel cell electric vehicles using hydrogen as fuel were also called hydrogen fuel cell vehicles or hydrogen electric vehicles. The fuel cells were misconceived by several people that they were batteries, but the fuel cells could provide electric power continuously if their fuel was provided continuously. The batteries could provide electric power as their only capacities, when all ions are released, no power could be provided. Because the fuel cell vehicles play important roles for our future transportation, the overall review for these vehicles is significantly interesting. This overall review can provide general and technical information, variety of readers; vehicle users, manufacturers, and scientists, can perceive and understand the fuel cell vehicles within this review. The readers can realize how important the fuel cell technologies are and support research around the world to drive the fuel cell vehicles to be the leading vehicles in our sustainable developing world.  相似文献

Due to the demand for developing reliable and economical fuel cells, many researchers have focused on durability improvement of hydrocarbon-based proton exchange membranes (PEMs), without compromising performance. Among various techniques, cross-linking and blending show promising potentials by introducing physical and/or chemical bonds between polymer chains and creating a 3D network within their structure. Cross-linking is accomplished through thermal, solvothermal, radiation-assisted, and cross-linker assisted methods, whereas blending is categorized based upon the existing interactions between polymers, namely acid-acid, acid-base, and charge transfer network. This review article discusses the recent achievements of cross-linked and blend hydrocarbon-based PEMs in long-term stability tests and durability studies. Additionally, their salient dimensional, thermo-chemical, and transport properties are highlighted, including the in-situ fuel cell performance and electrochemical diagnostics. Accordingly, cross-linked and blend membranes have shown over 4000 h durability in hydrogen fuel cells and more than 100 times lower methanol cross-over compared to conventional fluorinated membranes, implying significant potential for commercialization.  相似文献

In this paper, a hierarchical energy management strategy (EMS) based on low-pass filter and equivalent consumption minimization strategy (ECMS) is proposed in order to lift energy sources lifespan, power performance and fuel economy for hybrid electrical vehicles equipped with fuel cell, battery and supercapacitor. As for the considered powertrain configuration, fuel cell serves as main energy source, and battery and supercapacitor are regarded as energy support and storage system. Supercapacitor with high power density and dynamic response acts during great power fluctuations, which relives stress on fuel cell and battery. Meanwhile, battery is used to lift the economy of hydrogen fuel. In higher layer strategy of the proposed EMS, supercapacitor is employed to supply peak power and recycle braking energy by using the adaptive low-pass filter method. Meantime, an ECMS is designed to allocate power of fuel cell and battery such that fuel cell can work in a high efficient range to minimize hydrogen consumption in lower layer. The proposed EMS for hybrid electrical vehicles is modeled and verified by advisor-simulink and experiment bench. Simulation and experiment results are given to confirm effectiveness of the proposed EMS of this paper.  相似文献

Fuel cell hybrid vehicles (FCHVs) have become a major topic of interest in the automotive industry owing to recent energy supply and environmental problems. Consequently, fuel economy evaluation methods of FCHVs have a popular research topic. The initial state of charge (SOC) and the final SOC of the battery have to be identical in an evaluation of the fuel economy of an FCHV. In an actual driving situation or during a forward simulation, however, the final SOC depends on the power management strategy, which is usually different from the initial SOC. To consider the effect of the difference between the initial and final SOC on fuel economy evaluation, the concept of equivalent fuel consumption, based on the optimal control, is introduced in this paper. A rule-based power management strategy is applied to an FCHV, and its fuel economy is evaluated in terms of the equivalent fuel consumption and compared to the optimal control result.  相似文献

The harmful consequences of pollutants emitted by conventional fuel cars have prompted vehicle manufacturers to shift towards alternative energy sources. Currently, fuel cells (FCs) are commonly regarded as highly efficient and non-polluting power sources capable of delivering far greater energy densities and energy efficiency than conventional technologies. Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) are viewed as promising in transportation sectors because of their ability to start at cold temperatures and minimal emissions. PEMFC is an electrochemical device that converts hydrogen and oxidants into electricity, water, and heat at various temperatures. The pros and cons of the technology are discussed in this article. Various fuel cell types and their applications in the portable, automobile, and stationary sectors are discussed. Additionally, recent issues associated with existing fuel cell technology in the automobile sector are reviewed.  相似文献

Energy management strategy (EMS) based on optimized deep reinforcement learning plays a critical role in minimizing fuel consumption and prolonging the fuel cell stack lifespan for fuel cell hybrid vehicles. The deep Q-learning (DQL) and deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG) algorithms with priority experience replay are proposed in this research. The factors of fuel economy and power fluctuation are incorporated into the multi-objective reward functions to decline the fuel consumption and extend the lifetime of fuel cell stack. In addition, the degradation rate is introduced to reflect the lifetime of fuel cell stack. Furthermore, compared to the referenced optimally energy management strategy (dynamic planning), the DQL-based and DDPG-based EMS with prioritized experience replay (DQL-PER, DDPG-PER) are evaluated in hydrogen consumption and cumulative degradation of fuel cell stack under four driving cycles, FTP75, US06-2, NEDC and LA92-2, respectively. The training results reveal that the DQL-PER-based EMS performances better under FTP75 and US06-2 driving cycles, whereas DDPG-PER-based EMS has better performance under NEDC driving cycle, which provide a potential for applying the proposed algorithm into multi-cycles.  相似文献

Several alternative vehicle and fuel options are under consideration to alleviate the triple threats of climate change, urban air pollution and foreign oil dependence caused by motor vehicles. This paper evaluates the primary transportation alternatives and determines which hold the greatest potential for averting societal threats. We developed a dynamic computer simulation model that compares the societal benefits of replacing conventional gasoline cars with vehicles that are partially electrified, including hybrid electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids fueled by gasoline, cellulosic ethanol and hydrogen, and all-electric vehicles powered exclusively by batteries or by hydrogen and fuel cells. These simulations compare the year-by-year societal benefits over a 100-year time horizon of each vehicle/fuel combination compared to conventional cars. We conclude that all-electric vehicles will be required in combination with hybrids, plug-in hybrids and biofuels to achieve an 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions below 1990 levels, while simultaneously cutting dependence on imported oil and eliminating nearly all controllable urban air pollution from the light duty vehicle fleet. Hybrids and plug-ins that continue to use an internal combustion engine will not be adequate by themselves to achieve our societal objectives, even if they are powered with biofuels.  相似文献

The size of the individual powerplant components on board a fuel cell/battery hybrid vehicle affects the power management strategy which determines both the fuel economy and the durability of the fuel cell and the battery, and thus the average lifetime cost of the vehicle. Cost is one of the major barriers to the commercialization of fuel cell vehicles, therefore it is important to study how the sizing configuration affects overall vehicle cost. In this paper, degradation models for the fuel cell and the battery on board a fuel cell/battery hybrid bus are incorporated into the power management system to extend their lifetimes. Different sizing configurations were studied and the results reveal that the optimal size with highest lifetime and lowest average cost is highly dependent on the drive cycle. The vehicle equipped with a small fuel cell stack serving as a range extender will fail earlier and consume more fuel under drive cycles with high average power demand resulting in higher overall cost. However, the same configuration gives optimal results under a standard bus cycle with lower average power demand. At the other end of the spectrum, a fuel cell-dominant bus does not guarantee longer lifetime since the fuel cell operates mostly under low-load conditions which correspond to higher potentials reducing lifetime. Such a configuration also incurs a higher initial capital cost of the fuel cell stack resulting in a high average cost. The best configuration is a battery-dominated system with moderately-sized fuel cell stack which achieves the longest lifetime combined with the lowest average running cost throughout the lifetime of the vehicle.  相似文献

Multiple alternative vehicle and fuel options are being proposed to alleviate the threats of climate change, urban air pollution, and oil dependence caused by the transportation sector. We report here on the results from an extensive computer model developed over the last decade to simulate and compare the societal benefits of deploying various alternative transportation options including hybrid electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids fueled by gasoline, diesel fuel, natural gas, and ethanol, and all-electric vehicles powered by either batteries or fuel cells. These simulations compare the societal benefits over a 100-year time horizon of each vehicle/fuel combination in terms of reduced local air pollution, greenhouse gas pollution, and oil consumption compared to gasoline cars.  相似文献

This paper examines fuel economy and carbon standards for light vehicles (passenger cars and light trucks), discussing the rationale for standards, appropriate degrees of stringency and timing, regulatory structure, and ways to deal with “real world” fuel economy issues that may not be dealt with by the standards. There is no optimum method of establishing the stringency of a standard, but policymakers can be informed by analyses of technology cost-effectiveness from the viewpoint of different actors (e.g., society, vehicle purchasers) and of “top runners”—vehicles in the current fleet, or projections of future leading vehicles, that can serve as models for average vehicles some years later. The focus of the paper is on the US light vehicle fleet, with some discussion of applications to the European Union. A “leading edge” midsize car for the 2020 timeframe is identified, and various types of attribute-based standards are discussed. For the US, a 12–15 year target for new vehicle fleet improvement of 30–50% seems a reasonable starting point for negotiations. For 2030 or so, doubling current fuel economy is possible. In both cases, adjustments must be made in response to changing economic circumstances and government and societal priorities.  相似文献

Adapting to urban transportation and emission reduction in China, fuel cell extended-range commercial vehicles are advocated and studied, which have the advantages of no pollution and long continued driving mileage. According to the features of fuel cell extender and characteristics of the powertrain system of the electric commercial vehicle, the design principle of the extender control strategy is determined in this paper, in order to improve the power and economic performance. A simulation platform for fuel cell plus electric vehicles was established. By comparing and analyzing the characteristics of on-off control strategy, power following control strategy and fuzzy logic control strategy, an on-off power following control strategy is put forward and built which is used for extender controller, and a fuzzy algorithm of following control strategy is studied. By Simulating and analyzing on the platform, the results show that the power following fuzzy algorithm can improve the power performance with the 8.9s accelerating time (0–50 km/h) and better total mileage continued 286.7 km for the powertrain system of fuel cell extended-range commercial vehicles. The research in this paper provides a basis for the in-depth study of the energy management of electric vehicles.  相似文献

A hydrogen fuel cell vehicle requires fuel cells, batteries, supercapacitors, controllers and smart control units with their control strategies. The controller ensures that a control strategy predicated on the data taken from the traction motor and energy storage systems is created. The smart control unit compares the fuel cell nominal output power with the vehicle power demand, calculates the parameters and continually adjusts the variables. The control strategies that can be developed for these units will enable us to overcome the technological challenges for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in the near future. This study presents the best hydrogen fuel cell vehicle configurations and control strategies for safe, low cost and high efficiency by comparing control strategies in the literature for fuel economy.  相似文献

System durability is crucial for the successful commercialization of polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFCs) in fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs). Besides conventional electrochemical cycling durability during long-term operation, the effect of operation in cold climates must also be considered. Ice formation during start up in sub-zero conditions may result in damage to the electrocatalyst layer and the polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM). Here, we conduct accelerated cold start cycling tests on prototype fuel cell stacks intended for incorporation into commercial FCEVs. The effect of this on the stack performance is evaluated, the resulting mechanical damage is investigated, and degradation mechanisms are proposed. Overall, only a small voltage drop is observed after the durability tests, only minor damage occurs in the electrocatalyst layer, and no increase in gas crossover is observed. This indicates that these prototype fuel cell stacks successfully meet the cold start durability targets for automotive applications in FCEVs.  相似文献

Optimization of energy management strategy (EMS) for fuel cell/battery/ultracapacitor hybrid electrical vehicle (FCHEV) is primarily aimed on reducing fuel consumption. However, serious power fluctuation has effect on the durability of fuel cell, which still remains one challenging barrier for FCHEVs. In this paper, we propose an optimized frequency decoupling EMS using fuzzy control method to extend fuel cell lifespan and improve fuel economy for FCHEV. In the proposed EMS, fuel cell, battery and ultracapacitor are employed to supply low, middle and high-frequency components of required power, respectively. For accurately adjusting membership functions of proposed fuzzy controllers, genetic algorithm (GA) is adopted to optimize them considering multiple constraints on fuel cell power fluctuation and hydrogen consumption. The proposed EMS is verified by Advisor-Simulink and experiment bench. Simulation and experimental results confirm that the proposed EMS can effectively reduce hydrogen consumption in three typical drive cycles, limit fuel cell power fluctuation within 300 W/s and thus extend fuel cell lifespan.  相似文献

The Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) health monitoring and management are of critical importance for the performance and cost efficiency of Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV). Prognostics play an important role in improving the lifetime and reducing maintenance costs of PEMFC by predicting the degradation trend. In this paper, the degradation prediction of PEMFC is based on a novel model-driven method which combines the Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) algorithm with the proposed voltage degradation model. The experimental data originated from the FCEVs which achieve postal delivery mission in the real road are used for construction and validation of the proposed model-driven prognostic method. At our best knowledge, this is the first application which uses field-based data for FC health prognosis. The influence of different lengths of measured voltage data on degradation prediction of PEMFC, and the degradation prediction performance of PEMFC in different FCEVs are also investigated by the proposed method. Test results show that the proposed model-driven method is able to accurately estimate the voltage degradation trend of PEMFC in the FCEV. When more data are applied to learning the degradation of PEMFC, the mean Relative Error (RE) in the prediction phase will decrease. Especially, when the learning data exceeds 45 h, the mean RE in prediction phase is reduced to 0.68%. Considering that the maximum mean RE in the prediction phase is 2.03% for 3 postal FCEVs, the proposed method can be applied in the degradation trend prediction of PEMFC in FCEV under real conditions.  相似文献
