The aim of this work was to develop and optimize a direct solid state polymerization (DSSP) process on a micro scale for alkyldiammonium‐terephthalate salts. This was successfully demonstrated for the first time by the case of tetramethylenediammonium‐terepththalate salt (4T salt). The derived polymer (PA4T) presents interesting properties, but the temperature‐favored acid catalyzed cyclization of tetramethylenediamine (TMD) to mono‐functional pyrrolidine and ammonia inhibits a high polymerization conversion. DSSP was performed in a thermogravimetrical analysis (TGA) chamber, and the continuously monitored weight loss was correlated to polymerization conversion via the release of water, excluding any mass and heat transfer limitations. It was found that the conditions under which the DSSP is performed and the morphology of the starting material affect both the reaction rate and the product quality. The effect of the critical process parameters, namely vent size, heating rate to reach SSP temperature, and reaction temperature were quantified by the observed mass loss and by 1H NMR analysis. It was noticed that, besides the water formed by amidation, other volatile compounds were also released during the DSSP reaction, with main component, the TMD. In particular, it was observed that conditions favoring the evaporation of TMD also favored a higher reaction rate. The TMD loss was minimized by optimization of the aforementioned process conditions, leading to a more thermally stable and a higher molecular weight final product. The thermal stability of the PA4T was found to be inversely correlated to the concentration of carboxylic end groups present in the formed polymer. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Poly(decamethylene 2‐oxoglutarate) [poly (DMOG)] was synthesized by a melt polycondensation reaction. The structure of poly(DMOG) was confirmed by means of Fourier transform infrared, 1H‐NMR, and 13C NMR spectroscopies. The molecular weight distribution values of poly(DMOG) were determined with size exclusion chromatography. The number‐average molecular weight, weight‐average molecular weight, and polydispersity index values of poly(DMOG) were found to be 13,200, 19,000, and 1.439, respectively. Also, characterization was made by thermogravimetry (TG)–dynamic thermal analysis. The kinetics of the thermal degradation of poly (DMOG) was investigated by thermogravimetric analysis at different heating rates. TG curves showed that the thermal decomposition of poly(DMOG) occurred in one stage. The apparent activation energies of thermal decomposition for poly(DMOG), as determined by the Tang method, the Flynn–Wall–Ozawa method, the Kissinger–Akahira–Sunose method, and the Coats–Redfern method were 122.5, 126.8, 121.4, and 122.9 kJ/mol, respectively. The mechanism function and pre‐exponential factor were also determined by the master plots method. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2008 相似文献

Ultraviolet resistance modification of poly(p‐phenylene‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole) and poly(p‐phenylene terephthalamide) fibers with polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane 下载免费PDF全文
Octa‐ammonium chloride salt of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) was synthesized by a hydrolysis reaction and introduced into poly(p‐phenylene‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole) (p‐POD) and poly(p‐phenylene terephthalamide) (PPTA) fibers by a finishing method to enhance the UV resistance. The effects of the POSS concentration, treatment temperature, and time on the tensile strength of the fibers were investigated. The surface morphology, mechanical properties, crystallinity, degree of orientation of fibers, and intrinsic viscosity of the polymer solution were characterized in detail. The results indicate that the tensile strength retention and intrinsic viscosity retention of the fibers treated with POSS were much higher than those of the untreated fibers after the same accelerated irradiation time; this demonstrated that this treatment method was feasible. We also found that the efficacy of the protection provided by POSS was more beneficial to p‐POD than PPTA because of the different structure. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Thermal degradation of poly(dimethylsilylene) homopolymer (PDMS) and poly(tetramethyldisilylene‐co‐styrene) copolymer (PTMDSS) was investigated by pyrolysis‐gas chromatography and thermogravimetry (TG). PDMS decomposes by depolymerization, producing linear and cyclic oligomeric products, whereas PTMDSS decomposes by random degradation along the chain resulting in each monomeric product and various other combination products. The homopolymer was found to be much less stable than the copolymer. The decomposition mechanisms leading to the formation of various products are shown. The kinetic parameters of thermal degradation were evaluated by different integral methods using TG data. The activation energies of decomposition (E) for the homopolymer and the copolymer are found to be 122 and 181 kJ/mol, respectively, and the corresponding values of order of reaction are 1 and 1.5. The observed difference in the thermal stability and the values of the kinetic parameters for decomposition of these polymers are explained in relation with the mechanism of decomposition. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Synthesis, characterization, thermal stability, and compatibility properties of poly(vinyl p‐nitrobenzal acetal)‐g‐polyglycidylazides 下载免费PDF全文
A series of energetic polymers, poly(vinyl p‐nitrobenzal acetal)‐g‐polyglycidylazides (PVPNB‐g‐GAPs), are obtained via cross‐linking reactions of poly(vinyl p‐nitrobenzal acetal) (PVPNB) with four different molecular weights polyglycidylazides (GAPs) using toluene diisocyanate as cross‐linking agent. The structures of the energetic polymers are characterized by ultraviolet visible spectra (UV‐Vis), attenuated total reflectance‐Fourier transform‐infrared spectroscopy (ATR‐FT‐IR), 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry (1H NMR), and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry (13C NMR). Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) is applied to evaluate the glass‐transition temperature of the polymers. DSC traces illustrate that PVPNB‐g?2#GAP, PVPNB‐g?3#GAP, and PVPNB‐g?4#GAP have two distinct glass‐transition temperatures, whereas PVPNB‐g?1#GAP has one. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) are used to evaluate the thermal decomposition behavior of the four polymers and their compatibility with the main energetic components of TNT‐based melt‐cast explosives, such as cyclotetramethylene tetranitramine (HMX), cyclotrimethylene‐trinitramine (RDX), triaminotrinitrobenzene (TATB), and 2,4,6‐trinitrotoluene (TNT). The DTA and TGA curves obtained indicate that the polymers have excellent resistance to thermal decomposition up to 200°C. PVPNB‐g?4#GAP also exhibits good compatibility and could be safely used with TNT, HMX, and TATB but not with RDX. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2015 , 132, 42126. 相似文献

Polymer nanocomposites based on poly (ethylene 2,6‐naphthalate) (PEN) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were prepared by direct melt blending with a twin‐screw extruder. Dynamic thermogravimetric analysis was conducted on the PEN/CNT nanocomposites to clarify the effect of CNTs on the thermal decomposition behavior of the polymer nanocomposites. The thermal decomposition kinetics of the PEN/CNT nanocomposites was strongly dependent on the CNT content, the heating rate, and the gas atmosphere. On the basis of the thermal decomposition kinetic analysis, the variation of the activation energy for thermal decomposition revealed that a very small quantity of CNTs substantially improved the thermal stability and thermal decomposition of the PEN/CNT nanocomposites. Morphological observations demonstrated the formation of interconnected or network‐like structures of CNTs in the PEN matrix. The unique character of the CNTs introduced into the PEN matrix, such as the physical barrier effect of CNTs during thermal decomposition and the formation of interconnected or network‐like structures of CNTs, resulted in the enhancement of the thermal stability of the PEN/CNT nanocomposites. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Pyromellitic dianhydride (benzene‐1,2,4,5‐tetracarboxylic dianhydride) (1) was reacted with L‐phenylalanine (2) in a mixture of acetic acid and pyridine (3 : 2) and the resulting imide‐acid [N,N′‐(pyromellitoyl)‐bis‐L‐phenylalanine diacid] (4) was obtained in quantitative yield. The compound (4) was converted to the N,N′‐(pyromellitoyl)‐bis‐L‐phenylalanine diacid chloride (5) by reaction with thionyl chloride. A new facile and rapid polycondensation reaction of this diacid chloride (5) with several aromatic diols such as phenol phthalein (6a), bisphenol‐A (6b), 4,4′‐hydroquinone (6c), 1,8‐dihydroxyanthraquinone (6d), 4,4‐dihydroxy biphenyl (6e), and 2,4‐dihydroxyacetophenone (6f) was developed by using a domestic microwave oven in the presence of a small amount of a polar organic medium such as o‐cresol. The polymerization reactions proceeded rapidly and are completed within 20 min, producing a series of optically active poly(ester‐imide)s with good yield and moderate inherent viscosity of 0.10–0.26 dL/g. All of the above polymers were fully characterized by IR, elemental analyses, and specific rotation. Some structural characterization and physical properties of these optically active poly(ester‐imide)s are reported. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 86: 2211–2216, 2002 相似文献

The thermal decomposition behavior and degradation kinetics of poly(N‐adamantyl‐exo‐nadimide) were investigated with thermogravimetric analysis under dynamic conditions at five different heating rates: 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30°C/min. The derivative thermogravimetry curves of poly(N‐adamantyl‐exo‐nadimide) showed that its thermal degradation process had one weight‐loss step. The apparent activation energy of poly(N‐adamantyl‐exo‐nadimide) was estimated to be about 214.4 kJ/mol with the Ozawa–Flynn–Wall method. The most likely decomposition process was an F1 deceleration type in terms of the Coats–Redfern and Phadnis–Deshpande results. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(styrene‐co‐methacrylic acid) (PSMA) and poly(styrene‐co‐4‐vinylpyridine) (PS4VP) of different compositions were prepared and characterized. The phase behavior of these copolymers as binary PSMA/PS4VP mixtures or with poly(2,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐phenylene oxide) (PPO) as PPO/PSMA or PPO/PS4VP and PPO/PSMA/PS4VP ternary blends was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). This study showed that PPO was miscible with PS4VP containing up to 15 mol % 4‐vinylpyridine (4VP) but immiscible with PS4VP‐30 (where the number following the hyphen refers to the percentage 4VP in the polymer) and PSMA‐20 (where the number following the hyphen refers to the percentage methacrylic acid in the polymer) over the entire composition range. To examine the morphology of the immiscible blends, scanning electron microscopy was used. Because of the hydrogen‐bonding specific interactions that occurred between the carboxylic groups of PSMA and the pyridine groups of PS4VP, chloroform solutions of PSMA‐20 and PS4VP‐15 formed interpolymer complexes. The obtained glass‐transition temperatures (Tg's) of the PSMA‐20/PS4VP‐15 complexes were found to be higher than those calculated from the additivity rule. Although, depending on the content of 4VP, the shape of the Tg of the PPO/PS4VP blends changed from concave to S‐shaped in the case of the miscible blends, two Tg were observed with each PPO/PS4VP‐30 and PPO/PS4VP‐40 blend. The thermal stability of the PSMA‐20/PS4VP‐15 interpolymer complexes was studied by thermogravimetry. On the basis of the obtained results, the phase behavior of the ternary PPO/PSMA‐20/PS4VP‐15 blends was investigated by DSC. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2008 相似文献

A new class of optically active poly(amide imide)s were synthesized via direct polycondensation reaction of diisocyanates with a chiral diacid monomer. The step‐growth polymerization reactions of monomer bis(p‐amido benzoic acid)‐N‐trimellitylimido‐L‐leucine (BPABTL) (5) as a diacid monomer with 4,4′‐methylene bis(4‐phenylisocyanate) (MDI) (6) was performed under microwave irradiation, solution polymerization under gradual heating and reflux condition in the presence of pyridine (Py), dibuthyltin dilurate (DBTDL), and triethylamine (TEA) as a catalyst and without a catalyst, respectively. The optimized polymerization conditions according to solvent and catalyst for each method were performed with tolylene‐2,4‐diisocyanate (TDI) (7), hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) (8), and isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) (9) to produce optically active poly(amide imide)s by the diisocyanate route. The resulting polymers have inherent viscosities in the range of 0.09–1.10 dL/g. These polymers are optically active, thermally stable, and soluble in amide type solvents. All of the above polymers were fully characterized by IR spectroscopy, 1H NMR spectroscopy, elemental analyses, specific rotation, and thermal analyses methods. Some structural characterization and physical properties of this new optically active poly(amide imide)s are reported. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 93: 1647–1659, 2004 相似文献

Flame‐retardancy properties of tris(2‐hydroxyethyl) isocyanurate based charring agents on polypropylene 下载免费PDF全文
Tris(2‐hydroxyethyl) isocyanurate based charring agent (TBCA) was synthesized by melt polycondensation with tris(2‐hydroxyethyl) isocyanurate (THEIC) and terephthalic acid as raw materials. It was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis, 1H‐NMR, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). TBCA was blended with ammonium polyphosphate (APP) to form an intumescent flame retardant (IFR) for polypropylene (PP). The charring properties of TBCA was tested by flame retardancy in the PP/APP/TBCA (PP/IFR2) composite and compared with that of the PP/APP/THEIC (PP/IFR1) composite. The results show that PP/IFR2 had lower flame‐retardant properties but better water resistance than that of the PP/IFR1 composite because PP/IFR2 could still obtain a V‐0 rating after it had been soaked in water at 70°C for 96 h, whereas PP/IFR1 could not achieve any rating after 36 h. Their combustion performance was further evaluated by a cone calorimeter test, their thermal degradation processes were studied by TGA, and the morphology of the char residue was observed by scanning electron microscopy. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A CF3‐containing diamine, 4,4′‐bis(4‐amino‐2‐trifluoromethylphenoxy)benzophenone ( 2 ), was synthesized from 4,4′‐dihydroxybenzophenone and 2‐chloro‐5‐nitrobenzotrifluoride. Imide‐containing diacids ( 3 and 5Ba – 5Bg ) were prepared by the condensation reaction of aromatic diamines and trimellitic anhydride. Then, two series of novel soluble aromatic poly(amide imide)s (PAIs; 6Aa – 6Ak and 6Ba – 6Bg ) were synthesized from a diamine ( 4Aa – 4Ak or 2 ) with the imide‐containing diacids ( 3 and 5Ba – 5Bg ) via direct polycondensation with triphenyl phosphate and pyridine. The aromatic PAIs had inherent viscosities of 0.74–1.76 dL/g. All of the synthesized polymers showed excellent solubility in amide‐type solvents, such as N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone and N,N‐dimethylacetamide (DMAc), and afforded transparent and tough films by DMAc solvent casting. These polymer films had tensile strengths of 90–113 MPa, elongations at break of 8–15%, and initial moduli of 2.0–2.9 GPa. The glass‐transition temperatures of the aromatic PAIs were in the range 242–279°C. They had 10% weight losses at temperatures above 500°C and showed excellent thermal stabilities. The 6B series exhibited less coloring and showed lower yellowness index values than the corresponding 6A series. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 102:3641–3653, 2006 相似文献

Synthesis of phospholipidated β‐cyclodextrin and its application for flame‐retardant poly(lactic acid) with ammonium polyphosphate 下载免费PDF全文
In this study, phospholipidated β‐cyclodextrin (PCD) was obtained by the condensation between β‐cyclodextrin and phenyl phosphonic acid dichloride, which was characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra, 1H‐NMR, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The thermal stability and flame retardancy of the poly(lactic acid) (PLA) blends [PLA–ammonium polyphosphate (APP)–PCD] were measured by TGA coupled to FTIR spectroscopy, vertical burning test (UL‐94), limiting oxygen index (LOI), and cone calorimetry tests. The results show that the mass ratio and loading amount of APP and PCD affected the properties of PLA. When the loading of APP and PCD was 30 wt % and the mass ratio of APP to PCD was 5:1, the highest LOI value of 42.6% (that of neat PLA was 19.7%) and a UL‐94 V0 rating were achieved, and the reduction of the total heat release was greater than 80%. Even when the total amount of APP and PCD was decreased to 20 wt % with the same mass ratio, the flame‐retardant PLA still can achieved a UL‐94 V0 rating. The improved performance was explained by the formation of an intumescent, continuous, contact char layer. Moreover, the reaction between APP and PCD contributed to the improvement of the thermal stability of the char residue. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2018 , 135, 46054. 相似文献

N‐Trimellitylimido‐L ‐leucine was reacted with thionyl chloride, and N‐trimellitylimido‐L ‐leucine diacid chloride was obtained in a quantitative yield. The reaction of this diacid chloride with p‐aminobenzoic acid was performed in dry tetrahydrofuran, and bis(p‐amidobenzoic acid)‐N‐trimellitylimido‐L ‐leucine (5) was obtained as a novel optically active aromatic imide–amide diacid monomer in a high yield. The direct polycondensation reaction of the monomer imide–amide diacid 5 with 4,4′‐diaminodiphenylsulfone, 4,4′‐diaminodiphenylether, 1,4‐phenylenediamine, 1,3‐phenylenediamine, 2,4‐diaminotoluene, and benzidine (4,4′‐diaminobiphenyl) was carried out in a medium consisting of triphenyl phosphite, N‐methyl‐2‐pyrolidone, pyridine, and calcium chloride. The resulting novel poly(amide imide)s (PAIs), with inherent viscosities of 0.22–0.52 dL g?1, were obtained in high yields, were optically active, and had moderate thermal stability. All of the compounds were fully characterized with IR spectroscopy, elemental analyses, and specific rotation. The kinetics of thermal degradation of poly (p-phenylen benzobisoxazole) (PBO) were studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TG) in dynamic nitrogen gas at four different heating rates: 5, 10, 15, 20°C/min. The activation energy calculated by Kissinger Method was 352.19 kJ/mol, and the mean value of activation energies evaluated by Flynn-Wall-Ozawa Method was 338.32 kJ/mol. The degradation kinetic model of PBO followed the mechanism of random scission of weak bonds of PBO molecule and impact of the active groups obtained from the broken bonds, Mampel Power equation with integral form G(α) = α3/2 and differential form . And the mathematical equation of kinetic compensation effect was ln A = 0.1365 Ea − 1.4102. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 103: 3675–3679, 2007 相似文献

In the current article, the effect of different techniques was investigated on the preparation of tetramethylenediammonium terephthalate (4T salt), which consists of an industrially important precursor of high‐performance polyamides. In particular, 4T salt was synthesized through solution, slurry, and solvent‐free techniques. In each case the salt was isolated as a solid, correlating for the first time the salt preparation/isolation method with attained properties and morphology. This correlation led to a generalized comparison between all synthesized 4T salt grades, aiming at understanding the preparation mechanism of 4T salt. Accordingly, highly pure 4T salt, free of any unreacted diacid traces, can be only obtained from a clear salt solution either by cooling or by nonsolvent addition. Furthermore, by altering the crystallization conditions of the salt, thermal and morphological properties can be significantly affected, which further result in a qualitative correlation with the rate of subsequent direct solid‐state polymerization (DSSP). The DSSP reactions were carried out in the microscale of a thermogravimetric chamber, where the different 4T salt grades were heated isothermally until full conversion. Polyamide grades of different thermal and analytical properties were received, underlining that the quality of the salt is a corner stone for subsequent DSSP. These findings can be further exploited also to the DSSP of other semi‐aromatic polyamides. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2016 , 133, 42987. 相似文献

Characterization of polyacrylonitrile, poly(acrylonitrile‐co‐vinyl acetate), and poly(acrylonitrile‐co‐itaconic acid) based activated carbon nanofibers 下载免费PDF全文
In this study, three different acrylonitrile (AN)‐based polymers, including polyacrylonitrile (PAN), poly(acrylonitrile‐co‐vinyl acetate) [P(AN‐co‐VAc)], and poly(acrylonitrile‐co‐itaconic acid) [P(AN‐co‐IA)], were used as precursors to synthesize activated carbon nanofibers (ACNFs). An electrospinning method was used to produce nanofibers. Oxidative stabilization, carbonization, and finally, activation through a specific heating regimen were applied to the electrospun fibers to produce ACNFs. Stabilization, carbonization, and activation were carried out at 230, 600, and 750 °C, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and porosimetry were used to characterize the fibers in each step. According to the fiber diameter variation measurements, the pore extension procedure overcame the shrinkage of the fibers with copolymer precursors. However, the shrinkage process dominated the scene for the PAN homopolymer, and this led to an increase in the fiber diameter. The 328 m2/g Brunauer–Emmett–Teller surface area for ACNFs with PAN precursor were augmented to 614 and 564 m2/g for P(AN‐co‐VAc) and P(AN‐co‐IA), respectively. The TGA results show that the P(AN‐co‐IA)‐based ACNFs exhibited a higher thermal durability in comparison to the fibers of PAN and P(AN‐co‐VAc). The application of these copolymers instead of AN homopolymer enhanced the thermal stability and increased the surface area of the ACNFs even in low‐temperature carbonization and activation processes. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effect of sodium 5‐sulfoisophthalic acid (NaSIPA) on the solid‐state polymerization of hexamethylenediammonium adipate was studied. In particular, different polyamide salt grades, such as a model salt of hexamethylenediamine and NaSIPA and a polyamide 6,6 salt containing NaSIPA, were prepared through alternative procedures based on the solution–precipitation technique. Furthermore, selected salt grades were solid‐state‐polymerized in a thermogravimetric analysis chamber under static and flowing nitrogen. Critical reaction parameters, such as the reaction temperature, surrounding gas, and presence of NaSIPA, were investigated to determine the rate‐controlling mechanism of the process. More specifically, NaSIPA significantly influenced solid‐state polyamidation by reducing the reaction rate and changing the prevailing mechanism. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The evolution of structure and properties of poly(p‐phenylene terephthalamide) (PPTA) with different hydrothermal aging temperatures were systematically investigated. The cooperative change in tensile strength and reduced viscosity upon aging time indicated a direct chemical structure‐property correlation. The linear relationship between tensile strength and reduced viscosity was explored. Wide angle X‐ray diffraction measurements disclosed the crystal structure of aramid fibers was stable with aging time and temperature. Fiber exhibited skin and core structure in different ways. Cracks and microfilbrils were observed in the core after hydrothermal aging, while the structure was unchanged in the skin. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy also proved that the chemical structure of the skin was not affected by degradation. The results elucidated the hydrolysis of amide function happened in amorphous or bundles between microfibrils in the core rather than in skin of the fiber. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
