Additive manufacturing (AM) has first emerged in 1987 with the invention of stereolithography. The AM is an important, rapidly emerging, manufacturing technology that takes the information from a computer-aided design (CAD) and builds parts in a layer-by-layer style. As this technology offers many advantages such as manufacturing of complex geometries, reducing manufacturing cost and energy consumption, it has transformed manufacturing from the mass production to the mass customization. Also, it has found wide applications in several fields although some drawbacks. This paper presents the state of the art of the different AM processes, the material processing issues, and the post-processing operations. A comparison between AM and conventional processes is presented as well. We finish by presenting some prospects of this technology such as hybrid manufacturing and 4D printing. 相似文献

Reconfigurable manufacturing systems (RMSs), which possess the advantages of both dedicated serial lines and flexible manufacturing systems, were introduced in the mid-1990s to address the challenges initiated by globalization. The principal goal of an RMS is to enhance the responsiveness of manufacturing systems to unforeseen changes in product demand. RMSs are costeffective because they boost productivity, and increase the lifetime of the manufacturing system. Because of the many streams in which a product may be produced on an RMS, maintaining product precision in an RMS is a challenge. But the experience with RMS in the last 20 years indicates that product quality can be definitely maintained by inserting in-line inspection stations. In this paper, we formulate the design and operational principles for RMSs, and provide a state-of-the-art review of the design and operations methodologies of RMSs according to these principles. Finally, we propose future research directions, and deliberate on how recent intelligent manufacturing technologies may advance the design and operations of RMSs. 相似文献

Automation is a powerful way to reduce production costs. The growing market demand for a wide set of models and small batch production make flexible automated production systems an emerging need in several industries. The aim of this paper is to analyze and to maximize the performance of robotized flexible production systems consisting of a robot, feeder, working station, and unloading station, where the operations of the working cycle are scheduled using a sequencing algorithm based on priority rules. Since the working cycle is not predefined, the cycle time is strongly influenced by the parameters characterizing the workcell such as the workcell layout, the robot transfer movements, the feeder, the working operations, and the presence of a buffer between stations. In this work, we modeled the working cycle of a simple but representative layout of an industrial robotized flexible production system with and without buffer, and we implemented a recursive algorithm to estimate the cycle time. The analytical model derived was compared to the experimental results, obtained by using a prototype of the flexible production workcell. The results show that the analytical model is a powerful tool to estimate the performance of the workcell and to identify the design variables or their combinations that maximize the throughput. 相似文献
