Phase Diagram of the Al2O3 – ZrO2 – Nd2O3 System. Part 2. Liquidus Surface

A projection of the liquidus surface has been constructed for the Al₂O₃ – ZrO₂ – Nd₂O₃ system. No ternary compounds and areas of solid solutions based on the components or the binary compounds have been identified. The liquidus surface is formed by eight binary-phase primary crystallization fields. There are four four-phase nonvariant peritectic equilibria, together with two four-phase nonvariant eutectic equilibria as well as one three-phase nonvariant eutectic equilibrium. As the ZrO₂ and NdAlO₃ phases interact with the other phases by a eutectic mechanism, it is possible to determine the composition of the material, to take advantage of the unique properties of the T and F solid solutions based on ZrO₂ with incorporation of the properties of other phases in the ternary system.

For better presentation of the Al₂O₃-ZrO₂-Er₂O₃ phase diagram over a wide temperature and concentration ranges, three vertical sections are plotted to show interactions in the ternary system. The Er₂O₃-(50 mole% Al₂O₃ · 50 mole% ZrO₂) bisector shows the Er₂O₃-enriched region of the Al₂O₃-ZrO₂-Er₂O₃ phase diagram and explains the mechanism of Er₂O₃ phase transformations X ? H ? A ? B. The 15 mole% ZrO₂ (15Z) isopleth shows the Al₂O₃-ZrO₂-Er₂O₃ structure within the region adjacent to the Al₂O₃-Er₂O₃ binary bounding system. The ZrO₂-ErAlO₃ bisector depicts the ternary system in the ZrO₂-enriched region. The vertical sections intersect each of the three triangulating sections of the ternary system and demonstrate the width variation in their two-phase regions.

There are no ternary compounds, or appreciable regions of solid solutions based on the components and the binary compounds. The liquidus surface is formed by nine fields of primary phase crystallization. There are five four-phase nonvariant peritectic equilibria, as well as two four-phase nonvariant eutectic equilibria, and one three-phase nonvariant eutectic equilibrium. Use of the MMPI-2 in American Indians: I. Comparability of the MMPI-2 Between Two Tribes and With the MMPI-2 Normative Group.

The comparability of the MMPI-2 in American Indians with the MMPI-2 normative group was investigated in a sample of 535 Southwestern and 297 Plains American Indian tribal members with contrasting sociocultural and historical origins. Both American Indian tribal groups had clinically significant higher T scores (>5 T points) on 5 validity and clinical scales, 6 content scales, and 2 supplementary scales than did the MMPI-2 normative group. There were no significant differences between the 2 tribal groups on any of the MMPI-2 clinical, content, or supplementary scales. Matching members of both tribes with persons in the MMPI-2 normative group on the basis of age, gender, and education reduced the magnitude of the differences between the 2 groups on all of these scales, although the differences in T scores still exceeded 5 T points. It appears likely that the MMPI-2 differences of these 2 American Indian groups from the normative group may reflect their adverse historical, social, and economic conditions. 192 IgG-saporin. 2. Neuropathology in the rat brain

We have previously shown that an immunotoxin (IT) directed against the p75 component of the nerve growth factor receptor (NGFr) selectively abolished cholinergic neurons in the basal forebrain of the rat following intraventricular administration. We now report the neuropathological responses in the rat brain to the IT, with particular emphasis on the cholinergic basal forebrain (CBF) and other known p75NGFr-positive brain regions. Animals received intraventricular injections of IT and were allowed to survive for various times. Sections through the entire brain were evaluated using (1) hematoxylin and eosin; (2) glial fibrillary acidic protein immunohistochemistry; and (3) Griffonia simplicifolia lectin histochemistry. The only clearly degenerating cells following IT treatment were located in the CBF or in the Purkinje cell layer of the cerebellum. A marked microglial response was demonstrated that was tightly linked both topographically and temporally to the loss of neurons in these areas. The astroglial response was mild in the same regions in which the microglial response was obvious. The other areas of rat brain including the terminal fields of CBF projections showed no consistent reactive cellular responses in IT-treated animals. This study extends and corroborates previous work indicating specificity of IT, demonstrates active neuronal degeneration by conventional pathological methods for the first time, and illustrates the unexpected and novel finding that the predominant pathological response to the IT-induced loss of neurons is microglial. Both the high degree of specificity and the distinctive glial response distinguish the IT model from other experimental models of CBF neurodegeneration.

An unusual case of nodular fasciitis, arising from the splenius muscle, is presented. This uncommon lesion is always benign, but a local spread in the surrounding muscular tissue is possible. Through a Literature review, the main pathological, clinical and therapeutic features are discussed.

The liquidus surface is completed by eight primary crystallization fields. Four four-phase nonvariant eutectic equilibria, one four-phase nonvariant transformation equilibrium, and three three-phase nonvariant eutectic equilibria are found in the system. Use of the MMPI-2 With Asian Populations.

Psychological tests developed in the United States are being widely adapted into other languages and cultures around the world. This article examines the generalizability and utility of personality assessment instruments across cultures and addresses methodological issues related to using personality questionnaires in countries different from the one in which they were developed. This article specifically highlights the application of objective psychological tests in Asia with special emphasis on the most widely used and internationally adapted personality instrument, the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2). Effective strategies for translating, adapting, and standardizing questionnaires in languages and cultures different from their country of origin are reviewed. The history of several successful adaptations of the original MMPI and MMPI-2 is surveyed to illustrate the extensive research base for the test in Asia.
