Dietary fat intake and the risk of coronary heart disease in women   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
BACKGROUND: The relation between dietary intake of specific types of fat, particularly trans unsaturated fat and the risk of coronary disease remains unclear. We therefore studied this relation in women enrolled in the Nurses' Health Study. METHODS: We prospectively studied 80,082 women who were 34 to 59 years of age and had no known coronary disease, stroke, cancer, hypercholesterolemia, or diabetes in 1980. Information on diet was obtained at base line and updated during follow-up by means of validated questionnaires. During 14 years of follow-up, we documented 939 cases of nonfatal myocardial infarction or death from coronary heart disease. Mutivariate analyses included age, smoking status, total energy intake, dietary cholesterol intake, percentages of energy obtained from protein and specific types of fat, and other risk factors. RESULTS: Each increase of 5 percent of energy intake from saturated fat, as compared with equivalent energy intake from carbohydrates, was associated with a 17 percent increase in the risk of coronary disease (relative risk, 1.17; 95 percent confidence interval, 0.97 to 1.41; P=0.10). As compared with equivalent energy from carbohydrates, the relative risk for a 2 percent increment in energy intake from trans unsaturated fat was 1.93 (95 percent confidence interval, 1.43 to 2.61; P<0.001); that for a 5 percent increment in energy from monounsaturated fat was 0.81 (95 percent confidence interval, 0.65 to 1.00; P=0.05); and that for a 5 percent increment in energy from polyunsaturated fat was 0.62 (95 percent confidence interval, 0.46 to 0.85; P= 0.003). Total fat intake was not signficantly related to the risk of coronary disease (for a 5 percent increase in energy from fat, the relative risk was 1.02; 95 percent confidence interval, 0.97 to 1.07; P=0.55). We estimated that the replacement of 5 percent of energy from saturated fat with energy from unsaturated fats would reduce risk by 42 percent (95 percent confidence interval, 23 to 56; P<0.001) and that the replacement of 2 percent of energy from trans fat with energy from unhydrogenated, unsaturated fats would reduce risk by 53 percent (95 percent confidence interval, 34 to 67; P<.001). CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that replacing saturated and trans unsaturated fats with unhydrogenated monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats is more effective in preventing coronary heart disease in women than reducing overall fat intake.  相似文献

The relation between diet and female colorectal cancer was analyzed in a prospective study of 14,727 women aged 34-65 years, who were enrolled at mammographic screening clinics in New York and Florida from 1985 to 1991. They were followed through the end of 1994 (average 7.1 yrs) by a combination of direct contact through mail and telephone and record linkages with regional tumor registries, resulting in 100 incident cases of colorectal cancer. There was no overall positive or inverse association of colorectal cancer risk with intakes of total calories, total or subclasses of fat, carbohydrate, or dietary fiber, whereas there was an inverse association with total protein. Among major food groups, there was a progressive decline in risk of colorectal cancer with increasing intake of fish and shellfish (relative risk for 4th vs. 1st quartile = 0.49, 95% confidence interval = 0.27-0.89). A similar inverse association was also observed for consumption of dairy products, and this association was explained mainly by calcium, not by other nutrients, such as fat or protein. The results of the present study indicated that certain dietary components of fish or dairy products may protect against colorectal cancer, whereas the relations with red meat or total fat remained unclear.  相似文献

Epidemiologic studies have focused on the association between diet and breast cancer with conflicting results. Whereas a majority of case-control studies indicate a role for the intake of total fat and saturated fat, most prospective cohort studies either are negative or indicate very modest associations. Only a few authors have examined the role of meat intake in relation to breast cancer risk. The aim of this study was to examine the relation between risk of breast cancer and dietary intake of meat, animal products, fat, and protein. Between 1985 and 1991, we recruited 14,291 New York City women in a prospective cohort study of endogenous hormones, diet, and cancer in which they reported on their recent diet using a food frequency questionnaire self-administered at enrollment. From the cohort, 180 invasive breast cancer cases diagnosed before December 1990 and five times as many controls, individually matched by age, calendar time at enrollment, menopausal status, and, if premenopausal, phase of menstrual cycle, were included in a nested case-control study. There was an evident increase in the relative risk (RR) of breast cancer for increasing consumption of meat. Women in the upper quintile of meat consumption, as compared with the lowest quintile, had an energy-adjusted RR of 1.87 (95% confidence interval = 1.09-3.21). There was a modest RR increase in the upper quintile of total and saturated fat and no apparent association for other types of fat, protein, dairy products, poultry, or fish.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

In a population-based case-control study of women in Missouri (United States), most of whom were smokers, we obtained information on adult diet to evaluate the effects of dietary fats in relation to lung cancer risk. All newly diagnosed, primary lung cancer cases among women 35 to 84 years of age reported to the Missouri Cancer Registry from 1 January 1993 to 31 January 1994 were invited to participate, as were population-based controls. The analysis focused on interviews obtained from 624 controls and 587 cases. In-person interviews were obtained from 99.0 percent of controls and 60.6 percent of cases. Age and energy-adjusted relative risks suggested a direct relation between risk of lung cancer and intake of dietary fats (e.g., total fat, saturated fat) and frequency of meat consumption. After adjusting for confounders, dietary fats were no longer associated with risk, but the adverse effect of frequent consumption of meat persisted. Risk was elevated about 90 percent (95 percent confidence interval = 1.2-3.0) among women in the highest quintile of red meat intake compared with those in the lowest quintile. Risk estimates associated with red meat consumption, however, were dependent on interview status; the effect was restricted to cases whose dietary information was provided by proxy. In summary, after adjusting for potential confounders and removing data obtained from proxy respondents, dietary fats and consumption of red meat were not associated with lung cancer risk among women in Missouri.  相似文献

To investigate the relationship between trans fatty acids and postmenopausal breast cancer in European populations differing greatly in their dietary fat intakes, a case control study using adipose tissue stores of trans fatty acids as a biomarker of exposure was conducted. Subjects included 698 postmenopausal incident cases of primary breast cancer and controls randomly drawn from local population and patient registries, ages 50-74 Concentrations of individual trans fatty acids in gluteal fat biopsies were measured in these women. The adipose concentration of trans fatty acids showed a positive association with breast cancer. The covariate-adjusted association with breast cancer. The covariate-adjusted OR was 1.40 (95% confidence interval: 1.02, 1.93) for the difference between the 75th and 25th percentiles of total adipose trans. The adjusted OR for trans in the lowest tertile of polyunsaturated fatty acid reached 3.6 (2.2, 6.1). These associations were not attributable to differences in age, body mass index, exogenous hormone use, or socioeconomic status. These findings suggest an association of adipose stores of trans fatty acids with postmenopausal breast cancer in European women. They require confirmation in other populations, with concomitant consideration of the potential roles of dietary saturated and monounsaturated fats.  相似文献

The relationship between selected foods and nutrients and breast cancer risk was investigated in strata of age and menopausal status using data from a case-control study on breast cancer conducted between June 1991 and April 1994 in six Italian areas. Cases were 2,569 women with histologically confirmed incident breast cancer admitted to the major teaching and general hospitals of the study areas; controls were 2,588 women with no history of cancer admitted to hospitals in the same catchment area as cases for acute, nonneoplastic, nongynecological conditions unrelated to hormonal or digestive tract diseases or to long-term modifications of diet. Dietary habits were investigated using a validated food frequency questionnaire, including 78 foods or food groups. Among food groups, bread was directly and significantly related to breast cancer risk in older women and, consequently, in postmenopause, whereas the protection conferred by fish consumption was stronger in postmenopause and that exerted by raw vegetables was stronger in premenopause. Among nutrients, unsaturated fatty acids were inversely related to breast cancer risk, the association being stronger in postmenopausal and elderly women. The pattern was similar for total fats. For starch, available carbohydrates, and total proteins, no heterogeneity emerged across strata of age and menopausal status. Among micronutrients, protection diminished with increasing age for beta-carotene and calcium, whereas no heterogeneity emerged for vitamin E. Thus this age-specific analysis of the largest investigation to date on diet and breast cancer did not show any consistent pattern of breast cancer risk in relation to selected dietary factors across strata of age and menopausal status.  相似文献

Stomach cancer remains the second leading cancer in incidence in Shanghai, China, despite its decline over the past 2 decades. To clarify risk factors for this common malignancy, we conducted a population-based case-control study in Shanghai, China. Included in the study were 1,124 stomach cancer patients (age 20-69) newly diagnosed in 1988-1989 and 1,451 controls randomly selected among Shanghai residents. Usual adult dietary intake was assessed using a comprehensive food frequency questionnaire. Adjusted odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated using logistic regression models. Risks of stomach cancer were inversely associated with high consumption of several food groups, including fresh vegetables and fruits, poultry, eggs, plant oil, and some nutrients, such as protein, fat, fiber and antioxidant vitamins. By contrast, risks increased with increasing consumption of dietary carbohydrates, with odds ratios (ORs) of 1.5 (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.1-2.1) and 1.9 (95% CI 1.3-2.9) in the highest quartile of intake among men (p for trend=0.02) and women (p=0.0007), respectively. Similar increases in risk were associated with frequent intake of noodles and bread in both men (p=0.07) and women (p=0.05) after further adjustment for fiber consumption. In addition, elevated risks were associated with frequent consumption of preserved, salty or fried foods, and hot soup/porridge, and with irregular meals, speed eating and binge eating. No major differences in risk were seen according to subsite (cardia vs. non-cardia). Our findings add to the evidence that diet plays a major role in stomach cancer risk and suggest the need for further evaluation of risks associated with carbohydrates and starchy foods as well as the mechanisms involved.  相似文献

The nutritional habits regarding intake of calories, carbohydrates, fat and protein of 25 nonobese type-I diabetic subjects were compared with the recommendations given at onset of diabetes by a dietician and with the official recommendations of the American Diabetes Association. Food questionnaires indicated that the subjects currently ate 39% more calories than originally recommended by the dietician. The carbohydrate part of total energy was 4 +/- 7% and thereby lower than recommended by the dietician and officially by the professional society (55%). Fat consumption was 38 +/- 7% of total energy and therefore higher than recommended (30%). 17.2% of total energy was fat with saturated fatty acids (recommendation: maximum 8 to 10%). Protein consumption was 1.25 +/- 0.35 g/kg BW/d and thereby above the recommended amounts (0.8 g/kg BW/d). Thus, dietary counseling of type-I diabetic subjects at disease onset is frequently hypocaloric, probably because of lack of appetite. Patients show a tendency to add fat and protein calories thereafter, instead of increasing carbohydrate intake. Dietary habits of type I diabetic subjects should therefore be re-evaluated periodically by a dietician and adjusted to the individual requirements and to the official guidelines.  相似文献

We studied changes in dietary fat intake preceding the diagnosis of cancer in 96 men diagnosed with cancer during the Coronary Primary Prevention Trial and Post-trial Follow-up. Diet was assessed semiannually by 24-hour recall for the duration of the trial. Dietary fat intake was elevated in the interval 12-24 months before diagnosis compared with the interval 24-36 months before diagnosis [6.9 gm per day; 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.04-13.7]. The percentage of calories as fat was also elevated (1.9%; 95% CI = 0.34-3.4). Fat consumption decreased in the 0- to 12-month prediagnostic interval. The basis for the elevation is unclear, but it may have been due to the metabolic effects of cancer before its diagnosis. Case-control studies of long-term diet may overestimate positive associations between dietary fat and cancer risk if the cases' recall includes the prediagnostic period, during which fat intake is elevated. In analyses of prospective studies of dietary fat and cancer, data from within the first 2-3 years of baseline should be examined separately to evaluate the potential for bias introduced by the inclusion of measurements representing transient elevations in dietary fat intake.  相似文献

We considered the role of monounsaturated and other types of fats on breast carcinogenesis, using data from a case-control study of 2,569 incident, histologically confirmed cases of breast cancer and 2,588 controls from six Italian areas. The multivariate odds ratios, adjusted for age, education, parity, menopausal status plus various sources of energy and types of fats, were 1.10 (95% confidence interval 0.99-1.23) for an increase of 10 g/day of saturated fat intake, 0.99 (0.94-1.04) for an increase of 10 g/day of monounsaturated fats, and 0.91 (0.87-0.96) for an increase of 5 g/day of polyunsaturated fats. The present data confirm that saturated, but not mono- or polyunsaturated fats, are directly, though moderately, related to breast cancer risk.  相似文献

The role of diet on breast cancer risk was investigated in a case-control study of 345 patients diagnosed with primary breast carcinoma between 1986 and 1989 in the north-east of France (Lorraine). For each case, one control was matched for age (+/-3 years) and socio-economic status. The dietary history questionnaire consisted of a self-administered food frequency questionnaire, a 6-day food diary and an energy expenditure record. It also elicited personal characteristics and medical history. While taking into account total caloric intake and established risk factors, breast cancer risk was shown to decrease as consumption of fibre (p value for trend = 0.03), and garlic and onions (p value for trend <10(-6)) increased. This study also supports the epidemiologic evidence that saturated fat intake and breast cancer risk are associated in post-menopausal women (p value for trend = 0.03). Conversely, it suggests that unsaturated fat intake could lower the risk in the same subgroup (p value for trend = 0.03). Our findings on protective factors of breast cancer could induce effective preventive measures and warrant further experimental investigations to isolate specific subfractions.  相似文献

Oxidative stress, resulting from the imbalance between prooxidant and antioxidant states, damages DNA, proteins, cell membranes, and mitochondria and seems to play a role in human breast carcinogenesis. Dietary sources of antioxidants (chemical) and endogenous antioxidants (enzymatic), including the polymorphic manganese superoxide dismutase (MnSOD), can act to reduce the load of oxidative stress. We hypothesized that the valine-to-alanine substitution that seems to alter transport of the enzyme into the mitochondrion, changing its efficacy in fighting oxidative stress, was associated with breast cancer risk and that a diet rich in sources of antioxidants could ameliorate the effects on risk. Data were collected in a case-control study of diet and breast cancer in western New York from 1986 to 1991. Caucasian women with incident, primary, histologically confirmed breast cancer were frequency-matched on age and county of residence to community controls. Blood specimens were collected and processed from a subset of participants in the study (266 cases and 295 controls). Using a RFLP that distinguishes a valine (V) to alanine (A) change in the -9 position in the signal sequence of the protein for MnSOD, we characterized MnSOD genotypes in relation to breast cancer risk. We also evaluated the effect of the polymorphism on risk among low and high consumers of fruits and vegetables. Premenopausal women who were homozygous for the A allele had a 4-fold increase in breast cancer risk in comparison to those with 1 or 2 V alleles (odds ratio, 4.3; 95% confidence interval, 1.7-10.8). Risk was most pronounced among women below the median consumption of fruits and vegetables and of dietary ascorbic acid and alpha-tocopherol, with little increased risk for those with diets rich in these foods. Relationships were weaker among postmenopausal women, although the MnSOD AA genotype was associated with an almost 2-fold increase in risk (odds ratio, 1.8; confidence interval, 0.9-3.6). No appreciable modification of risk by diet was detected for these older women. These data support the hypothesis that MnSOD and oxidative stress play a significant role in breast cancer risk, particularly in premenopausal women. The finding that risk was greatest among women who consumed lower amounts of dietary antioxidants and was minimal among high consumers indicates that a diet rich in sources of antioxidants may minimize the deleterious effects of the MnSOD polymorphism, thereby supporting public health recommendations for the consumption of diets rich in fruits and vegetables as a preventive measure against cancer.  相似文献

With the purpose of studying trends in nutrition in Greece, data from the Food Balance Sheets about the calorie and nutrient intakes were analysed. During the period 1961-86, the average per capita consumption of calories increased by 26.6%, while the calories obtained exclusively from animal sources increased by 106%. The average protein intake rose by 29.9%. Animal proteins increased by 90.6% and their proportion reached 51.5%. Lipid intake increased by 62.2%; in particular animal fats went up by 114.3%. It is concluded that the most important changes in nutrition in Greece during the study period were (a) the increase in total calorie intake, and (b) the rise in total fat consumption and especially the vertical increase in consumption of animal fats. These developments show a change to the traditional pattern of the Greek diet.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Alcohol use is associated with breast cancer in many epidemiological studies. Most, however, have measured risk from recent consumption patterns, and only a few include analyses for duration of drinking or age that a woman started to drink. The authors studied the effect of these variables, as well as of recent alcohol consumption patterns, on breast cancer risk. METHODS: Data from a large case-control study conducted in Long Island, New York from 1 January 1984 to 31 December 1986 were used. A total of 1214 women aged 20-79 years with incident breast cancer were interviewed. A control was selected for each case from driver's license files, and matched on age and county of residence. Alcohol consumption was measured as: ever versus never, grams of alcohol per day, age started drinking, and total years drinking. RESULTS: After adjustment for breast cancer risk factors, the odds ratio for ever versus never drinking was 1.40 (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.09-1.79); odds ratios for > 0-5 and > or = 5 grams of alcohol use per day, as compared to nondrinkers, were 1.29 (95% CI: 1.00-1.65) and 1.46 (95% CI: 1.13-1.89), respectively. Age when drinking began was not related to breast cancer risk, but the greater the total years of drinking, up to 40 years (odds ratio 1.48, 95% CI: 1.13-1.93), the greater the risk. However, when grams per day and duration of drinking were simultaneously included in the multivariate model, duration was not important as a risk factor. This suggests that intensity of drinking may be the important factor for breast cancer risk. After covariate adjustment, risk from alcohol intake did not differ between pre- and postmenopausal women.  相似文献

Dietary risk factors have been implicated in the development of cholelithiasis. The aim of this study was to determine in a homogeneous French population whether a particular type of diet may be lithogenic. Seventy-six subjects over 30 years of age (26 men, 50 women) with cholelithiasis detected by ultrasound were selected from a population sample of 830 subjects by drawing lots using the polling list. These were matched by 76 control subjects without cholelithiasis randomly selected from the same population. Univariate analysis was significant for a high calorie diet >2500 kcal/day (OR = 3.62, P = 0.0065), a diet rich in carbohydrates with a consumption > or = 55 g/day (OR = 2.98, P = 0.0067), and a diet rich in total lipids (OR = 4.97, P = 0.023) or saturated fatty acids (OR = 3.06, P = 0.0146). An alcohol consumption equivalent to 20-40 g/day was protective (P = 0.018). Multivariate analysis confirmed these results. Our study suggests that a change in dietary habits by limiting excess calories, saturated fats and carbohydrates could reduce the incidence of cholelithiasis.  相似文献

This study examined relationships between diet and plasma total and LDL cholesterol levels in a population-based sample of 695 premenopausal and 727 postmenopausal women participating in the Framingham Offspring/Spouse Study. Regression analyses controlled for age, caloric intake, apolipoprotein E isoform type, estrogen use, and important CVD risk factors indicated that plasma total and LDL-cholesterol levels were directly associated with consumption of saturated fat and inversely associated with total calorie intake. In contrast, dietary cholesterol was not a predictor of plasma total or LDL cholesterol levels. Total cholesterol levels were also directly associated with total fat, oleic acid, and animal fat, and inversely associated with carbohydrate intake. Stepwise regressions with key nutrients indicated that saturated fat was consistently associated with total and LDL cholesterol levels in Framingham women. These analyses suggest that diet explains 2% of the variability in these lipid levels in a cross-sectional sample of women; the full model explains 22-27%.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Endometrial cancer is associated with overweight, but little is known on its possible relationship with specific aspects of diet. METHODS: The relationship between dietary factors and the risk of endometrial cancer was investigated in a case-control study conducted in Switzerland and Northern Italy on 274 patients with histologically confirmed endometrial cancers and 572 control subjects admitted to the hospital for acute nongynecologic disorders that were not hormone related, metabolic, or neoplastic. RESULTS: Significant direct associations were observed with (1) the total energy intake (odds ratio [OR] for the highest versus the lowest consumption tertile = 2.7) and, after allowance for energy intake, (2) the frequency of consumption of most types of meats, eggs, beans or peas, added fats (OR for total added fat = 2.5), and sugar (OR = 2.5). Significant protection, of the order of 40-60% reduction in the highest versus the lowest consumption tertile, was conferred by elevated intake of most vegetables and fresh fruit and whole grain bread and pasta. This was reflected in the low OR for the highest tertiles of intake of beta-carotene and ascorbic acid (OR for the highest versus the lowest consumption tertile after allowance for energy intake = 0.5). CONCLUSIONS: The current study suggests that, aside from the predictable adverse effects of overeating and consequent overweight, some qualitative aspects of the habitual diet may also be associated with the risk of endometrial cancer, chiefly, the intake of animal proteins and fat (directly) and of fresh fruit, vegetables, and fibers (inversely).  相似文献

Lifetime lactation in relation to breast cancer risk was examined in a case-control study in two counties in western New York. Cases were women age 40 years and over with incident, primary, histologically confirmed breast cancer. Controls were age- and county-frequency matched, selected from New York State driver's license records (for those less than age 65 years) and from Health Care Finance Administration Records (for those age 65 or more). Included were women with at least one livebirth (253 premenopausal and 367 postmenopausal cases and 266 premenopausal and 427 postmenopausal controls). Breast cancer risk was very weakly associated with long duration of lactation among premenopausal women; the odds ratio for at least 20 months lifetime lactation was 0.50 (95% confidence interval 0.21-1.12). Among postmenopausal women, the protective effect of lactation was restricted to women with first lactation before age 25 years (odds ratio = 0.67, 95% confidence interval 0.46-0.95). However, age at first birth was highly correlated with age at first lactation. Neither insufficient milk as a reason for not breastfeeding nor having received medication to stop milk flow was associated with increased risk. These findings are in accordance with accumulating evidence that lactation may have a weak protective effect on breast cancer risk.  相似文献

Preliminary studies suggest that the estrogen metabolite 16 alpha-hydroxyestrone is associated with breast cancer, whereas 2-hydroxyestrone is not. However, epidemiological studies evaluating this relationship and taking established risk factors for breast cancer into account are lacking. The purpose of this study was to examine the association of the ratio of the urinary estrogen metabolites (2-hydroxyestrone and 16 alpha-hydroxyestrone) and of the individual metabolites with breast cancer. A spot urine sample, a brief history, and clinical data were collected from breast cancer cases (n = 42) and from women coming to the hospital for a routine mammogram or attending a free breast cancer screening (n = 64). 2-Hydroxyestrone and 16 alpha-hydroxyestrone were measured by enzyme immunoassay, and the estrogen metabolite ratio (EMR; 2-hydroxyestrone:16 alpha-hydroxyestrone) was computed. Cases and controls were similar in terms of age (mean age of cases, 53.8 +/- 15.1 years, versus 54.2 +/- 10.4 years for controls; P = 0.9) and demographics. Mean EMR was not associated with breast cancer overall (1.67 +/- 0.80 versus 1.72 +/- 0.66; P = 0.7). However, in postmenopausal women, the mean EMR was significantly lower in cases compared to controls (1.41 +/- 0.73 versus 1.81 +/- 0.71; P = 0.05). The multivariate adjusted odds ratios for the intermediate and lowest tertiles of the EMR relative to the highest among postmenopausal women were 9.73 (95% confidence interval, 1.27-74.84) and 32.74 (95% confidence interval, 3.36-319.09), respectively. The test for trend was highly significant (P = 0.003). Analyses of the individual metabolites indicated that 16 alpha-hydroxyestrone was a strong risk factor. The EMR did not show any consistent associations with age, race/ethnicity, age at first birth, parity, body mass index, family history of breast cancer, smoking, or alcohol intake. These data suggest a strong, inverse association of the EMR and a strong positive association of 16 alpha-hydroxyestrone with breast cancer in postmenopausal women. Larger studies are needed to confirm these results and to assess the relationship of the EMR and of the individual metabolites with breast cancer, with attention to menopausal status and clinical factors and with adjustment for known breast cancer risk factors.  相似文献

To identify systematically the nutrient and food group intakes associated with a low-fat diet, the authors used the detailed dietary information collected from 10,306 individuals aged 32-86 years in the 1982-1984 National Health Epidemiologic Follow-up Study. Intakes of vitamin C and percentages of calories from carbohydrates, dietary fiber, poultry, low-fat dairy products, fruits, vegetables, cereals, and whole grains were markedly higher, while intakes of protein, total fat, saturated fat, oleic and linoleic acids, cholesterol, sodium, all red meats, high-fat dairy products, eggs, nuts, white bread, fried potatoes, desserts, fats, and oils were much lower in the quartile with the lowest percentage of calories from fat. These dietary patterns associated with a low-fat diet were essentially constant across strata of age, sex, race, and socioeconomic status. This study suggests that individuals on a low-fat diet substitute certain carbohydrate-rich foods such as fruits and vegetables for fat. Given these associations between low-fat diets and other dietary factors independently associated with certain cancers, these dietary factors should be considered potential confounders in studies of dietary fat and these cancers.  相似文献
