This paper documents developments in fatigue cracking of a floating platform that required repair and upgrading during 1999–2000. The Veslefrikk B (VFB) platform was built in 1985 for drilling exploration but was converted to a production platform in 1989. Shortly thereafter extensive fatigue cracking was discovered and several repairs were made. However, extensive fatigue cracking continued and a retrofitting program was implemented, using various types of grinding and peening techniques. In 1999 the platform was temporarily decommissioned and dry-docked for a comprehensive repair and upgrading program, following the International Institute of welding (IIW) guidelines for weld improvement methods [1], this was completed in only four months. However, after a few more years of service fatigue damage again necessitated new repairs. The majority of cracks occurred in the hull skin plates and caused water leakage. It is noteworthy that cracking this time occurred only in areas of the structure that were left untreated in the first retrofitting program due to low levels of stress from FE analyses in these areas. The paper describes the original repair and strengthening program, and the types of subsequent fatigue damage that necessitated new repairs. The recent life extension program has resulted in the safe operation of the platform for an estimated additional period of 20 years.  相似文献

In recent years, a variety of Internet-based systems has been developed for the purpose of Rapid One-of-a-Kind or customized Product Development (ROKPD). They can be applied in different stages of the product development process such as to rapidly capture customer requirements, and help produce high-quality products at low cost and short lead-time. Many of the systems, however, do not support rapid adaptation or dynamic reconfiguration of systems and tools for supporting ROKPD in a distributed manufacturing environment. To the authors’ knowledge, the infrastructure of such a reconfigurable platform for supporting distributed manufacturing has never been directly studied. This paper proposes an Internet-based reconfigurable ROKP platform that has been prototyped to serve as a substrate for integrating innovative tools and systems for One-of-a-Kind Production (OKP) companies in New Zealand. The main emphasis of this paper is to investigate how to build the Internet-based reconfigurable ROKPD platform and to design appropriate intelligent tools and systems for the purpose of rapidly and economically producing OKP products in the global environment. A number of recent developments are discussed, including the four open-domain infrastructure of the ROKPD platform, Internet-based data management systems, an integrated product data environment and a cost/lead time control tool.  相似文献

In this paper, a survey was conducted on a residential condominium to estimate energy use by different household appliances along the lighting energy estimation in public areas. It has been found that about 2.17 GWh of energy is used in the condominium annually by different types of household appliances and lightings in public areas. As there is significant potential to reduce the energy used, different energy savings measures have been applied and energy savings, bill savings, life cycle cost analysis have been estimated and presented in this paper. It has been found that a cumulative amount of 2.4 GWh of energy can be saved for about 10 years with the implementation of different energy savings strategies proposed for appliances and lighting in public areas. However, good maintenance practices and good energy management practices should be employed continuously to maintain high energy efficiency and high performance of the equipment used and the entire building. It has been found that some of the measures like reducing air conditioning load and reducing heat gain through window tinting are economically very viable as payback period is very short. More advantageously, some of the measures can be implemented without investing significant cost. Ultimately, a key driver in the success of energy efficiency is the education and attitude of the stakeholders in the building industry, and end users who are committed to practice energy saving measures.  相似文献

At the international level, a major effort is being made to optimize the flow of data and information for health systems management. The studies show that medical and economic efficiency is strongly influenced by the level of development and complexity of implementing an integrated system of epidemiological monitoring and modeling. The solution proposed and described in this paper is addressed to all public and private institutions involved in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, using recognized methods and standards in this field. The Green-Epidemio is a platform adaptable to the specific features of any public institution for disease management, based on open-source software, allowing the adaptation, customization, and further development of “open-source” applications, according to the specificities of the public institution, the changes in the economic and social environment and its legal framework. The platform has a mathematical model for the spread of COVID-19 infection depending on the location of the outbreaks so that the allocation of resources and the geographical limitation of certain areas can be parameterized according to the number and location of the real-time identified outbreaks. The social impact of the proposed solution is due to the planned applications of information flow management, which is a first step in improving significantly the response time and efficiency of people-operated response services. Moreover, institutional interoperability influences strategic societal factors.  相似文献

The lightweight, high strength and corrosion resistance of fiber reinforced polymers (FRP) make them ideally suited for quick and effective structural repairs. As a result, they have been favoured for conducting emergency bridge repairs where speed is of essence. The availability of resins that can cure under water has made it possible to similarly extend its application to substructure elements such as partially submerged damaged piles. Such repairs can be carried out using the same strategies that were successfully used in recent demonstration projects in which FRP was used to repair and rehabilitate corrosion-damaged piles. In the projects two disparate FRP systems – a pre-preg and a wet layup – were used and both carbon and glass evaluated. Access to the piles in the deep waters was provided by a custom-designed, lightweight modular scaffolding system that was assembled around the piles. An overview of the project is provided with particular emphasis on changes that would allow its adoption for emergency repairs.  相似文献

Cathodic protection (CP) of reinforcing steel has been applied successfully to concrete structures with corrosion damage for more than 25 years. Performance and maintenance data are reported from an inventory of CP systems in The Netherlands installed on about 100 structures between 1987 and 2010. The large majority provides corrosion protection for a long time. Degradation of components and overall systems seems to occur in limited numbers. Failure of components and total systems as a function of age is quantified. On the average, the time until minor repairs of parts is necessary is about 15 years. Global failure of the anode, which necessitates near complete replacement of the system, is rare. Based on the statistical analysis of field data, the cost of maintaining a CP system is predicted using a life cycle cost model.  相似文献
