A single-stage vapour absorption refrigeration system (VARS) is tested with monochlorodifluoromethane (HCF22) as refrigerant and different absorbents: dimethylether of tetraethylene glycol (DMETEG) and dimethyl acetamide (DMA). The influence of generator temperatures in the range 75–95°C, which represents low-grade heat sources, is studied. Cooling water temperatures were varied between 20 and 30°C. Two cases of cooling water flow paths are considered, i.e. water entering either absorber or condenser, which are connected in series. For HCFC22-DMETEG, COP values in the range 0.2–0.36 and evaporator temperatures between 0 and 10°C are obtained. For HCF22-DMA, COP values in the range 0.3–0.45 and evaporator temperatures between −10 and 10°C are obtained. It is observed that HCFC22-DMETEG can work at lower heat source temperatures than HCFC22-DMA. However, at the same operating conditions HCFC22-DMA is better from the viewpoints of circulation ratio and COP. Experiments also show that at low heat source temperature, cooling water temperature has strong influence on circulation ratio but does not affect COP significantly. Preferably, cooling water should first flow through the condenser and then through the absorber in order to achieve improved overall performance.  相似文献

Many refrigeration systems on New Zealand dairy farms use HCFC-22 which is being phased out by 2015. Both laboratory and on-farm trials were undertaken to investigate hydrocarbons as drop-in replacements to HCFC-22 in milk silo refrigeration systems. A mixture of propane and ethane (Care-50) reduced energy use by 6–8%, and had similar system cooling capacity relative to HCFC-22. With propane (Care-40), energy use decreased by 5% but cooling capacity was 9% lower. The retrofits were simple and low cost because no alterations to the systems other than change in refrigerant and appropriate safety labelling and documentation were made. For most farms, the outside refrigeration system location and small charge mean that hydrocarbons could meet NZ standards for safe use of refrigerants. The low retrofit cost, improved energy efficiency, low environmental impact, mineral oil compatibility, similar cooling capacity and controllable flammability risks mean that the propane–ethane mixture is an attractive replacement for HCFC-22 on NZ dairy farms.  相似文献

This study discusses the effects of the heat exchanger type, refrigerant, inner tube configuration, and fin geometry on evaporator performance by adopting updated correlations of EVSIM, a numerical analysis model based on the tube-by-tube method developed by Domanski. The heat exchanger types considered are the cross-counter flow type and cross-parallel flow type. The refrigerants considered for the numerical test as a working fluid are R-134a, R-410A and R-22. For inner tube configuration, enhanced tube and smooth tube cases are considered. For the air side evaporation performance, heat exchangers using plate fins, wavy fins and slit fins are analyzed. Results show that the heat transfer rate of the cross-counter flow type heat exchanger is 3% higher than that of the cross-parallel flow type with R-22. The total heat transfer rate of the evaporator using R-410A is higher than those using R-22 and R-134a, while the total pressure drop of R-410A is lower than those of R-22 and R-134a. The heat transfer rate of the evaporator using enhanced tubes is two times higher than that using smooth tubes, but the pressure drop of the enhanced tube is 45–50% higher than that of the smooth tubes. The evaporation performance of slit fins is superior to that of plate fins by 54%.  相似文献

Microchannel (or mini-channel) heat exchangers are drawing more attention because of the potential cost reduction and the lower refrigerant charge. Serpentine microchannel heat exchangers are even more compact because of the minimized headers. Using the serpentine microchannel condenser, some thermodynamically good but flammable refrigerants like R-290 (Propane) can be extended to more applications. To well size the serpentine microchannel condensers, a distributed-parameter model has been developed in this paper. Airside maldistribution is taken into account. Model validation shows good agreement with the experimental data. The predictions on the heating capacity and the pressure drop fall into ±10% error band. Further analysis shows the impact of the pass number and the airside maldistribution on the condenser performance.  相似文献

Non-azeotropic refrigerant mixtures (NARMs) are investigated for a two-temperature level heat exchange process found in a domestic refrigerator-freezer. Ideal (constant air temperature) heat exchange processes are assumed. The results allow the effects of intercooling between the evaporator refrigerant stream and the condenser outlet stream to be examined in a systematic manner. For the conditions studied, an idealized NARM system will have a limiting coefficient of performance (COP) that is less than that of the best performing pure refrigerant component. However, for non-ideal heat exchange processes (gliding air temperature), the NARM-based system can have a higher limiting COP than a system running on either pure NARM component. Intercooling significantly affects the COP of NARM-based systems; however, depending on the location of ‘pinch points’ in the heat exchangers, only one intercooling heat exchanger may be needed to obtain a NARM's maximum refrigerator COP. The results are presented for mixtures of R22–R142b, R22–R123 and R32–R142b.  相似文献

This paper presents an experimental study on the performance of hydrocarbon refrigerants, namely propane and a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) mix as suitable replacements for the widely used refrigerant HCFC22 in refrigeration and heat pump applications. A cylinder of commercially available LPG from New Zealand market was obtained for this study. The composition of the specific LPG mix (by mass fraction) was propane (HC290)—98.95%, ethane (HC170)—1.007%, iso-butane (HC600a)—0.0397% and other constituents in small proportions. Experiments were carried out in a laboratory heat pump test facility with maximum condenser capacity of approximately 15 kW. Condensing temperatures were held constant at 35, 45 and 55°C, while evaporating temperatures were varied over a wide range from − 15 to + 15°C. All tests were carried out at constant degree of superheat (about 1 K) and subcooling (about 8 K). All appropriate precautions were observed against any leaks or fire. The analysis revealed that the hydrocarbon refrigerants performed better than HCFC22 but with a small loss of condenser capacity. The mass flow rate and compressor discharge temperature were found to be significantly lower than HCFC22. The performance of the specific LPG mix tested was found to be better than HC290 at higher condensing temperatures but poorer at a lower condensing temperature. No adverse effects were found with the LPG mix despite the presence of little moisture (less than 0.01%) in its composition. The study reveals that LPG of the tested composition (i.e. predominantly a mixture of propane, ethane and iso-butane) can be an excellent refrigerant in heat pump/refrigeration applications.  相似文献

This paper presents a steady-state model for predicting the performance of vapour-compression liquid chillers over a wide range of operating conditions. The model overcomes the idealisations of previous models with regard to modelling the heat exchangers. In particular, it employs an elemental NTU- methodology to model both the shell-and-tube condenser and evaporator. The approach allows the change in heat transfer coefficients throughout the heat exchangers to be accounted for, thereby improving both physical realism and the accuracy of the simulation model. The model requires only those inputs that are readily available to the user (e.g. condenser inlet water temperature and evaporator water outlet temperature). The outputs of the model include system performance variables such as the compressor electrical work input and the coefficient of performance (COP) as well as states of the refrigerant throughout the refrigeration cycle. The methodology employed within the model also allows the performance of chillers using refrigerant mixtures to be modelled. The model is validated with data from one single screw chiller and one twin-screw chiller where the agreement is found to be within ±10%.  相似文献

This paper presents an experimental investigation of the drop-in process for HCFC-22 in a 5-ton refrigeration system. The original refrigerant was replaced by alternative halogenated refrigerants such as HFC-438A, HFC-404A, HFC-410A and HFC-32, as well as hydrocarbons HC-290 and HC-1270. The experimental facility was composed basically of a semi-hermetic reciprocating compressor, tube in tube heat exchangers and an electronic expansion valve. The tests were performed by just replacing the refrigerant, without changing any components, typically as in a drop-in process. The main parameters were varied to verify the range and performance of each refrigerant and then compared to the HCFC-22. Results showed that the natural refrigerants presented the best coefficient of performance and that results for HFCs, excepting the HFC-32, remained below those of HCFC-22. Regarding the environmental impact, using the parameter TEWI, the best results were reached with hydrocarbons; meanwhile, the refrigerant HFC-404A presented the highest environmental impact.  相似文献

A novel silica gel–water adsorption chiller is designed and its performance is predicted in this work. This adsorption chiller includes three vacuum chambers: two adsorption/desorption (or evaporation/condensation) vacuum chambers and one heat pipe working vacuum chamber as the evaporator. One adsorber, one condenser and one evaporator are housed in the same chamber to constitute an adsorption/desorption unit. The evaporators of two adsorption/desorption units are combined together by a heat-pipe heat exchanger to make continuous refrigerating capacity. In this chiller, a vacuum valve is installed between the two adsorption/desorption vacuum chambers to increase its performance especially when the chiller is driven by a low temperature heat source. The operating reliability of the chiller rises greatly because of using fewer valves. Furthermore, the performance of the chiller is predicted. The simulated results show that the refrigerating capacity is more than 10 kW under a typical working condition with hot water temperature of 85 °C, the cooling water temperature of 31 °C and the chilled water inlet temperature of 15 °C. The COP exceeds 0.5 even under a heat source temperature of 65 °C.  相似文献

A novel CO2 heat pump system was provided for use in fuel cell vehicles, when considering the heat exchanger arrangements. This cycle which had an inverter-controlled, electricity-driven compressor was applied to the automotive heat pump system for both cooling and heating. The cooling and heating loops consisted of a semi-hermetic compressor, supercritical pressure microchannel heat exchangers (a gas cooler and a cabin heater), a microchannel evaporator, an internal heat exchanger, an expansion valve and an accumulator. The performance characteristics of the CO2 heat pump system for fuel cell vehicles were analyzed by experiments. Results for steady and transient state performance were provided for various operating conditions. Furthermore, experiments to examine the arrangements of a radiator and an outdoor heat exchanger were carried out by changing their positions for both cooling and heating conditions. The arrangements of the radiator and the outdoor heat exchanger were tested to quantify cooling/heating effectiveness and mutual interference. The improvement of heating capacity and coefficient of performance (COP) of the CO2 heat pump system was up to 54% and 22%, respectively, when using preheated air through the radiator instead of cold ambient air. However, the cooling capacity quite decreased by 40–60% and the COP fairly decreased by 43–65%, for the new radiator-front arrangement.  相似文献

Discussion of the feasibility of the Einstein refrigeration cycle   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
A careful modelling of the thermodynamic properties of the water–ammonia–butane system, the working fluid mixture used in the Einstein cycle, with the Patel–Teja cubic equation of state is performed. Numerical simulation is used to investigate the feasibility limits of this refrigeration cycle. Two modified configurations of the cycle are considered. A conflict between the evaporator and the condenser/absorber operating conditions is noted. The condenser/absorber operation needs a higher system pressure, which limits the refrigeration temperature in the case of air-cooling. On the other hand, the condensation of ammonia and the presence of a small quantity of water in the evaporator limit also the refrigeration temperature. In the case of a water-cooled machine, with a condenser/absorber temperature of 30 °C, the cycle COP reaches 0.19 which is still low.  相似文献

This paper presents a comparable evaluation of R600a (isobutane), R290 (propane), R134a, R22, R410A, and R32 in an optimized finned-tube evaporator, and analyzes the impact of evaporator effects on the system coefficient of performance (COP). The study relied on a detailed evaporator model derived from NIST's EVAP-COND simulation package and used the ISHED1 scheme employing a non-Darwinian learnable evolution model for circuitry optimization. In the process, 4500 circuitry designs were generated and evaluated for each refrigerant. The obtained evaporator optimization results were incorporated in a conventional analysis of the vapor compression cycle. For a theoretical cycle analysis without accounting for evaporator effects, the COP spread for the studied refrigerants was as high as 11.7%. For cycle simulations including evaporator effects, the COP of R290 was better than that of R22 by up to 3.5%, while the remaining refrigerants performed approximately within a 2% COP band of the R22 baseline for the two condensing temperatures considered.  相似文献

This paper reports heat transfer results obtained during condensation of refrigerant propane inside a minichannel aluminium heat exchanger vertically mounted in an experimental setup simulating a water-to-water heat pump. The condenser was constructed of multiport minichannel aluminium tubes assembled as a shell-and-tube heat exchanger. Propane vapour entered the condenser tubes via the top end and exited sub-cooled from the bottom. Coolant water flowed upward on the shell-side. The heat transfer areas of the tube-side and the shell-side of the condenser were 0.941 m2 and 0.985 m2, respectively. The heat transfer rate between the two fluids was controlled by varying the evaporation temperature while the condensation temperature was fixed. The applied heat transfer rate was within 3900–9500 W for all tests. Experiments were performed at constant condensing temperatures of 30 °C, 40 °C and 50 °C, respectively. The cooling water flow rate was maintained at 11.90 l min−1 for all tests. De-superheating length, two-phase length, sub-cooling length, local heat transfer coefficients and average heat transfer coefficients of the condenser were calculated. The experimental heat transfer coefficients were compared with predictions from correlations found in the literature. The experimental heat transfer coefficients in the different regions were higher than those predicted by the available correlations.  相似文献

A drop-in test of a mixed refrigerant R407C is performed in a commercial screw chiller with shell-and-tube heat exchangers originally designed for R22. The test results show a severe performance reduction when substituting the refrigerant from R22 to R407C. The reason for the performance reduction is analyzed comprehensively, and the influence of thermodynamic properties, compressor efficiency, and heat transfer is evaluated quantitatively. The major factor causing the performance reduction is assessed as the degradation of the heat transfer in using the mixed refrigerant, R407C. The heat transfer degradation in the evaporator is found to be larger and influences more on the chiller performance reduction. The performance reduction caused by the evaporator is approximately two times compared with that of the condenser.  相似文献

In this paper, the energy and exergy analysis of single effect and series flow double effect water–lithium bromide absorption systems is presented. A computational model has been developed for the parametric investigation of these systems. Newly developed computationally efficient property equations of water–lithium bromide solution have been used in the computer code. The analysis involves the determination of effects of generator, absorber and evaporator temperatures on the energetic and exergetic performance of these systems. The effects of pressure drop between evaporator and absorber, and effectiveness of heat exchangers are also investigated. The performance parameters computed are coefficient of performance, exergy destruction, efficiency defects and exergetic efficiency. The results indicate that coefficient of performance of the single effect system lies in range of 0.6–0.75 and the corresponding value of coefficient of performance for the series flow double effect system lies in the range of 1–1.28. The effect of parameters such as temperature difference between heat source and generator and evaporator and cold room have also been investigated. Irreversibility is highest in the absorber in both systems when compared to other system components.  相似文献

We propose in this article an absorption chiller operating with binary alkane mixtures as an alternative to compression machines. It is an installation using low-level energy at a temperature below 150 °C (waste heat or solar energy) and operating with environmentally friendly fluids. Ten mixtures are considered and compared with two cooling mediums of the condenser and the absorber: the ambient air at 35 °C and the water at 25 °C. For an air-cooled chiller, the COP reaches 0.37 for the n-butane/octane system. This value remains 27% lower than that of an ammonia/water installation operating under the same conditions. For a water-cooling chiller, the n-butane/octane and propane/octane systems give a COP of about 0.63, which is comparable to that of the ammonia/water system. When n-butane is used as refrigerant, the machine works at a pressure under 5 bars, which is an advantage compared with machines working with ammonia/water mixtures.  相似文献

An experimental study on the air-side heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics for multi-louvered fin and flat tube heat exchangers has been performed. For 45 heat exchangers with different louver angles (15–29°), fin pitches (1.0, 1.2, 1.4 mm) and flow depths (16, 20, 24 mm), a series of tests were conducted for the air-side Reynolds numbers of 100–600, at a constant tube-side water flow rate of 0.32 m3/h. The inlet temperatures of the air and water for heat exchangers were 21 and 45°C, respectively. The air-side thermal performance data were analyzed using effectiveness-NTU method for cross-flow heat exchanger with both fluid unmixed conditions. The heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop data for heat exchangers with different geometrical configurations were reported in terms of Colburn j-factor and Fanning friction factor f, as functions of Reynolds number based on louver pitch. The general correlations for j and f factors are developed and compared to other correlations. The f correlation indicates that the flow depth is one of the important parameters for the pressure drop.  相似文献

Jet-refrigeration cycles seem to provide an interesting solution to the increasing interest in environment protection and the need for energy saving due to their low plant costs, reliability and possibility to use water as operating fluid. A steam/steam ejector cycle refrigerator is investigated introducing a two-stage ejector with annular primary at the second stage. The steady_state refrigerator, exchanging heat with the water streams at inlet fixed temperatures at the three shell and tube heat exchangers, evaporator, condenser and generator, is considered as an open system. Heat transfer irreversibilities in the heat exchangers and external friction losses in the water streams are considered, ignoring the internal pressure drop of the vapor. A simulation program numerically searches the maximum COP at given external inlet fluid temperatures as a function of mass flows, dimensions and temperature differences in the heat exchangers. The code gives the ejector and heat exchangers design parameters.  相似文献

In this study, 14 refrigerant mixtures composed of R32, R125, R134a, R152a, R290 (propane) and R1270 (propylene) were tested in a breadboard heat pump in an attempt to substitute HCFC22 used in residential air-conditioners. The heat pump was of 3.5 kW capacity with water as the heat transfer fluid (HTF) in the evaporator and condenser that are in a counter current flow configuration. All tests were conducted with the HTF temperatures fixed to those found in the ARI test A condition. Test results show that ternary mixtures composed of R32, R125, and R134a have a 4–5% higher coefficient of performance (COP) and capacity than HCFC22. On the other hand, ternary mixtures containing R125, R134a and R152a have both lower COPs and capacities than HCFC22. R32/R134a binary mixtures show a 7% increase in COP with the similar capacity to that of HCFC22 while R290/R134a azeotrope shows a 3–4% increases in both COP and capacity. The compressor discharge temperatures of the mixtures tested are much lower than those of HCFC22, indicating that these mixtures would offer better system reliability and longer life time than HCFC22. Finally, test results with a suction line heat exchanger (SLHX) indicate that SLHX must be used with special care in air-conditioners since its effect is fluid dependent.  相似文献

An experimental study for air-side thermal-hydraulic performance of brazed aluminum heat exchangers under dehumidifying conditions has been performed. For 30 samples of louvered fin heat exchangers with different geometrical parameters, the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics for wet surface were evaluated. The test was conducted for air-side Reynolds number in the range of 80–300 and tube-side water flow rate of 320 kg/h. The dry- and wet-bulb temperatures of the inlet air for heat exchangers were 27 and 19 °C, respectively and the inlet water temperature was 6 °C. The air-side thermal performance data for cooling and dehumidifying conditions were analyzed using effectiveness-NTU method for cross-flow heat exchanger with both fluids unmixed. The test results are reported, compared with those for the dry surface heat exchangers, in terms of sensible j factor and friction factor f, as functions of Reynolds number based on louver pitch. The correlations for j and f factors are developed within rms errors of ±16.9 and ±13.6%, respectively.  相似文献
