Significant improvement in the fracture strength, accompanied by an enhancement in the electrical conductivity, of zirconia polycrystals that were doped with 3–7 mol% Sc2O3 was obtained by sintering at 1300°C for 1 h in air, followed by hot isostatic pressing (HIP) at 196 MPa at 1300° and 1450°C for 1.5 h in an argon-gas atmosphere. Dense bodies (with an average grain size of <0.5 μm) that were doped with 3.5 mol% of Sc2O3 showed the highest average fracture strength up to 1770 MPa and an electrical conductivity of 0.08 S/cm at 1000°C. The present zirconia ceramics, which consisted of submicrometer-sized grains of tetragonal phases and were stabilized with 5 and 6 mol% of Sc2O3, exhibited high strength (1330 and 1140 MPa, respectively) and good conductivity (0.15 and 0.18 S/cm, respectively); values for both properties were greater than those previously reported. The present HIPed zirconia ceramics, which have excellent properties, are candidates for an electrolyte of planar-type solid oxide fuel cells.  相似文献

α-Al2O3-doped (8 mol % Sc2O3)ZrO2 composite solid electrolyte has been investigated in the fabrication of solid-state ceramic gas sensors. The microstructure and electrical conductivity of the composite solid electrolyte have been measured over a range of temperature from 240°C to 596°C. The composite solid electrolyte has been found to exhibit a higher conductivity compared with the commonly used (8 mol% Y2O3)ZrO2 at temperatures above ∼448°C. The sensing characteristics for NO2 detection have been studied in the temperature range of 500–650°C at the low concentration from 10 to 30 ppm and at high concentration from 100 to 500 ppm of NO2. The NO2 sensor was found to respond reproducibly and rapidly to the variations of NO2, concentration, indicating that the composite solid electrolyte has promising application as a solid electrolyte for on-board exhaust gas monitoring.  相似文献

X-ray diffraction (XRD) and electron microscopy investigations have been performed on Sc2O3-stabilized ZrO2 as-sintered and after aging in air or in wet-forming gas at 850°C for 1000 h. Some tetragonal to monoclinic transformation had occurred in the near-surface regions of 4 mol% Sc2O3 samples after aging; the phase transition was more severe for samples aged in the forming gas ambient. A decrease of ∼20% in electrical conductivity accompanied the aging. In 6 mol% Sc2O3 samples, although no cubic to tetragonal transformation was detected, both the electrical conductivity and the activation energy for ionic conductivity decreased significantly during aging. Ten mole percent Sc2O3 samples did not show appreciable change in electrical conductivity due to aging, although some near-surface cubic to rhombohedral transformation did occur. Sharpening of the (400)t XRD peak of Sc2O3-stabilzed tetragonal ZrO2 accompanies the change(s) in the electrical conductivity.  相似文献

Refractory Y-α-SiAlON with elongated grain morphology was obtained by utilizing La2O3 as a densification aid, which resulted in excellent room-temperature and high-temperature strength. Room-temperature strength of 1000 MPa was achieved when La2O3 was augmented by adding Y2O3 or removing AlN. With only La2O3, a temperature-independent strength of 800–950 MPa was maintained up to 1100°C, then gradually decreasing by 25% when reaching 1300°C. The R-curve measurements of fracture toughness showed relatively little dependence on microstructure, consistent with a strong interface that suppresses grain boundary decohesion. Compared with other densification aids such as SiO2, Al2O3, Sc2O3, Y2O3, and Lu2O3, a finer microstructure was obtained by using La2O3. High nitrogen content in the residual La–Si–Al–O–N glass in equilibrium with the nitrogen-rich α-SiAlON is suggested to be the cause of these findings.  相似文献

The phase relations for the Sc2O3-Ta2O5 system in the composition range of 50-100 mol% Sc2O3 have been studied by using solid-state reactions at 1350°, 1500°, or 1700°C and by using thermal analyses up to the melting temperatures. The Sc5.5Ta1.5O12 phase, defect-fluorite-type cubic phase (F-phase, space group Fm 3 m ), ScTaO4, and Sc2O3 were found in the system. The Sc5.5Ta1.5O12 phase formed in 78 mol% Sc2O3 at <1700°C and seemed to melt incongruently. The F-phase formed in ∼75 mol% Sc2O3 and decomposed to Sc5.5Ta1.5O12 and ScTaO4 at <1700°C. The F-phase melted congruently at 2344°± 2°C in 80 mol% Sc2O3. The eutectic point seemed to exist at ∼2300°C in 90 mol% Sc2O3. A phase diagram that includes the four above-described phases has been proposed, instead of the previous diagram in which those phases were not identified.  相似文献

Methods of suppressing decreased conductivity in 8 mol% Y2O3-stabilized–92 mol% ZrO2 (8YSZ) with aging were investigated. Different amounts of Sc2O3 were doped into 8YSZ. The electrochemical properties of Sc2O3-doped 8YSZ were measured, and the microstructural and local structural changes were characterized. The present results indicate that an appropriate amount of Sc2O3 doping, 3 or 4 mol%, effectively suppresses decreased conductivity with aging in 8YSZ.  相似文献

Intermetallic CoAl powder has been prepared via self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS). Dense CoAl materials (99.6% of theoretical) with the combined additions of ZrO2(3Y) and Al2O3 have been fabricated via spark plasma sintering (SPS) for 10 min at 1300°C and 30 MPa. The microstructures are such that tetragonal ZrO2 (0.3 μm) and Al2O3 (0.5 μm) particles are located at the grain boundaries of the CoAl (8.5 μm) matrix. Improved mechanical properties are obtained; especially the fracture toughness and the bending strength of the materials with ZrO2(3Y)/Al2O3= 16/4 mol% are 3.87 MPa·m1/2 and 1080 MPa, respectively, and high strength (>600 MPa) can be retained up to 1000°C.  相似文献

Y-PSZ ceramics with 5 wt% Al2O3 were synthesized by a sol–gel route. Experimental results show that powders of metastable tetragonal zirconia with 2.7 mol% Y2O3 and 5 wt% Al2O3 can be fabricated by decomposing the dry gel powder at 500°C. Materials sintered in an air atmosphere at 1500°C for 3 have high density (5.685 g/cm3), high content of metastable tetragonal zirconia (>96%), and high fracture toughness (8.67 MPa.m1/2). Compared with the Y-PSZ ceramics, significant toughening was achieved by adding 5 wt% Al2O3.  相似文献

We report here the fabrication of transparent Sc2O3 ceramics via vacuum sintering. The starting Sc2O3 powders are pyrolyzed from a basic sulfate precursor (Sc(OH)2.6(SO4)0.2·H2O) precipitated from scandium sulfate solution with hexamethylenetetramine as the precipitant. Thermal decomposition behavior of the precursor is studied via differential thermal analysis/thermogravimetry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry, and elemental analysis. Sinterability of the Sc2O3 powders is studied via dilatometry. Microstructure evolution of the ceramic during sintering is investigated via field emission scanning electron microscopy. The best calcination temperature for the precursor is 1100°C, at which the resultant Sc2O3 powder is ultrafine (∼85 nm), well dispersed, and almost free from residual sulfur contamination. With this reactive powder, transparent Sc2O3 ceramics having an average grain size of ∼9 μm and showing a visible wavelength transmittance of ∼60–62% (∼76% of that of Sc2O3 single crystal) have been fabricated via vacuum sintering at a relatively low temperature of 1700°C for 4 h.  相似文献

The effect of the cooling rate on the PTCR (positive temperature coefficient of resistivity) characteristics of 0.1 mol% Sb2O3-doped BaTiO3 ceramics has been investigated. Resistances both below and above the Curie temperature were increased by slow cooling, which indicated that the resistive layer width at the grain boundary increased as the cooling rate decreased. Concentration profiles of the Ba vacancies as a function of distance from the grain boundary have been simulated by the finite difference method. The inversion temperature of the 0.1 mol% Sb2O3-doped BaTiO3 system was determined to be 1160°C from the measured electrical properties and computed concentration profiles.  相似文献

Microstructure, phase stability, and mechanical properties of CeO2-partially-stabilized zirconia (12 mol% Ce-TZP) containing 10 wt% Al2O3 and 1.5 wt% MnO were studied in relation to the base Ce-TZP and the Ce-TZP/Al2O3 composite without MnO. The MnO reacted with both CeO2 and Al2O3 to form a new phase of approximate composition CeMnAl11O19. The reacted phase had a magnetoplumbite structure and formed elongated, needlelike crystals. The MnO-doped Ce-TZP/Al2O3 composites sintered at an optimum temperature of 1550°C exhibited high strength (650 MPa in four-point bending) and rising crack-growth-resistance behavior, with fracture toughness increasing from 7.6 to 10.3 MPa.In12 in compact tension tests. These improved mechanical properties were associated with relatively high tetragonal-to-monoclinic transformation temperature ( M s=−42°C) at small grain size (2.5 μm), significant transformation plasticity in mechanical tests (bending, uniaxial tension, and uniaxial compression) and transformation zones at crack tips in compact tension specimens. The transformation yield stress, zone size, and fracture toughness were sensitive to the sintering temperature varied in the range 1500° to 1600°C. Analysis of the transformation zones using Raman microprobe spectroscopy and calculation of zone shielding for the observed zones indicated that a large fraction of the fracture toughness (∼70%) was derived from transformation toughening.  相似文献

The temperature dependence of bending strength, fracture toughness, and Young's modulus of composite materials fabricated in the ZrO2 (Y2O3)-Al2O3 system were examined. The addition of A1203 enhanced the high-temperature strength. Isostatically hot-pressed, 60 wt% ZrO2 (2 mol% Y2O3)/40 wt% Al2O3 exhibited an extremely high strength, 1000 MPa, at 1000°C.  相似文献

High-quality alumina ceramics were fabricated by a hot pressing with MgO and SiO2 as additives using α-Al2O3-seeded nanocrystalline γ-Al2O3 powders as the raw material. Densification behavior, microstructure evolution, and mechanical properties of alumina were investigated from 1250°C to 1450°C. The seeded γ-Al2O3 sintered to 98% relative density at 1300°C. Obvious grain growth was observed at 1400°C and plate-like grains formed at 1450°C. For the 1350°C hot-pressed alumina ceramics, the grain boundary regions were generally clean. Spinel and mullite formed in the triple-grain junction regions. The bending strength and fracture toughness were 565 MPa and 4.5 MPa·m1/2, respectively. For the 1300°C sintered alumina ceramics, the corresponding values were 492 MPa and 4.9 MPa·m1/2.  相似文献

Additions of 1-20 mol% Sc2O3 or Y2O3 to MoSi2 eliminate glassy SiO2, which improves mechanical properties at both ambient and high temperatures. In particular, only 1 mol% ScO3 additions dramatically enhance three-point bending strength from 521 to 1081 MPa. Vickers hardness, Young's modulus, fracture toughness, and high-temperature strength are also improved by this low level of additive. The improvement of mechanical properties is attributed to the formation of crystalline silicates: Sc2Si2O7, Y2Si2O7, Y2SiO5, and Y4Si3O12, which are analyzed by XRD, SEM-EDS, and TEM-EDS methods.  相似文献

The electrical properties of a series of CaCu3Ti4O12 ceramics prepared by the mixed oxide route and sintered at 1115°C in air for 1–24 h to produce different ceramic microstructures have been studied by Impedance Spectroscopy. As-fired ceramics are electrically heterogeneous, consisting of semiconducting grains and insulating grain boundaries, and can be modelled to a first approximation on an equivalent circuit based on two parallel RC elements connected in series. The grain boundary resistance and capacitance values vary as a function of sintering time and correlate with the ceramic microstructure based on the brickwork layer model for electroceramics. The large range of apparent high permittivity values for CaCu3Ti4O12 ceramics is therefore attributed to variations in ceramic microstructure. The grain-boundary resistance decreases by three to four orders of magnitude after heat treatment in N2 at 800°–1000°C but can be recovered to the original value by heat treatment in O2 at 1000°C. The bulk resistivity decreases from ∼80 to 30 Ω·cm with increasing sintering time but is independent of heat treatment in N2 or O2 at 800°–1000°C. The origin of the bulk semiconductivity is discussed and appears to be related to partial decomposition of CaCu3Ti4O12 at the high sintering temperatures required to form dense ceramics, and not to oxygen loss.  相似文献

Using AlN and RE2O3 (RE = Y, Yb) as sintering additives, two different SiC ceramics with high strength at 1500°C were fabricated by hot-pressing and subsequent annealing under pressure. The ceramics had a self-reinforced microstructure consisting of elongated α-SiC grains and a grain-boundary glassy phase. High-temperature strength up to 1600°C was measured and compared with that of the SiC ceramics fabricated with AlN and Er2O3. SiC ceramics with AlN and Y2O3 showed the best strength (∼630 MPa) at 1500°C, while SiC ceramics with AlN and Er2O3 the best strength (∼550 MPa) at 1600°C.  相似文献

Electrical conduction in tetragonal β-Bi2O3 doped with Sb2O3 was investigated by measuring electrical conductivity, ionic transference number, and Seebeck coefficient. The β-Bi2O3 doped with 1 to 10 mol% Sb2O3 was stable up to 600°C and showed an oxygen ionic and electronic mixed conduction, where the electron conduction was predominant at low oxygen pressures. The oxygen-ion conductivity showed a maximum at 4 mol% Sb2O3, whereas the activation energy for the ionic conduction remained unchanged for 4 to 10 mol% Sb2O3-doped specimens. These results were interpreted in terms of the oxygen vacancy concentration and the distortion of the tetragonal structure. The electron conductivity and its oxygen pressure dependence decreased with increasing Sb2O3 content. The fact that Sb5+ is partially reduced by excess electrons in heavily doped β specimens at low oxygen pressures is explained.  相似文献

The subsolidus phase relations in the entire system ZrO2-Y2O3 were established using DTA, expansion measurements, and room- and high-temperature X-ray diffraction. Three eutectoid reactions were found in the system: ( a ) tetragonal zirconia solid solution→monoclinic zirconia solid solution+cubic zirconia solid solution at 4.5 mol% Y2O3 and ∼490°C, ( b ) cubic zirconia solid solutiow→δ-phase Y4Zr3O12+hexagonalphase Y6ZrO11 at 45 mol% Y2O3 and ∼1325°±25°C, and ( c ) yttria C -type solid solution→wcubic zirconia solid solution+ hexagonal phase Y6ZrO11 at ∼72 mol% Y2O3 and 1650°±50°C. Two ordered phases were also found in the system, one at 40 mol% Y2O3 with ideal formula Y4Zr3O12, and another, a new hexagonal phase, at 75 mol% Y2O3 with formula Y6ZrO11. They decompose at 1375° and >1750°C into cubic zirconia solid solution and yttria C -type solid solution, respectively. The extent of the cubic zirconia and yttria C -type solid solution fields was also redetermined. By incorporating the known tetragonal-cubic zirconia transition temperature and the liquidus temperatures in the system, a new tentative phase diagram is given for the system ZrO2-Y2O3.  相似文献

The fracture strengths of sintered Al2O3 containing 20 and 40 vol% ZrO2(12 mol% CeO2)—zirconia-toughened alumina (ZTA)—composites along with the fracture resistance can be increased (e.g., to ∼900 MPa and >12 Mpa·m1/2, respectively), by increasing the mean grain size of the t -ZrO2 (and the Al2O3) from ∼0.5 μm to ∼3 μm. At these lower t -ZrO2 contents, the fracture strength-fracture resistance curves show a continuous rise as opposed to the strength maxima observed in polycrystalline t -ZrO2(12 mol% CeO2), CeTZP, and ZrO2(12 mol% CeO2) ceramics containing ≤20 vol% Al2O3. The toughened composites also exhibit excellent damage resistance with fracture strengths of 500 MPa retained with surfaces containing ∼150- N Vickers indentations which produce cracks of ∼160-μm radius. Greater damage resistance correlates with an increase in the apparent R -curve response of these composites.  相似文献

Phase relations in the system Sc2O3-WO3 were characterized. Two stable binary compounds were, found. The 1:3 compound, SC2(WO4)3, melts congruently at 1640°±10°C and forms a simple eutectic with WO3 at ∼90 mol% WO3 and 1309°+10°C. The 3 : 1 compound, Sc6WO12, forms a simple eutectic with the 1:3 compound at -69 mol% WO2, and 1580°+10°C. The melting temperature of SC6WO12 was >1600°C.  相似文献
