We investigated experimentally the effects of a spatially non-uniform stretch rate on the flame temperature. A flame surface with a non-uniform stretch rate was formed by creating a wrinkled laminar premixed flame in a spatially periodic flow field of a lean propane/air mixture. The measured flame temperature was lower/higher than the adiabatic flame temperature at flame segments with positive/negative stretch rates. This was a result of the effects of flame stretch and preferential diffusion for Lewis number greater than unity. The flame temperature estimated using the conventional flame stretch theory, which is based on a uniform stretch rate along the flame surface, did not agree quantitatively with the measured temperature. Therefore, we revised the theory, taking into account heat transfer along the flame surface, and then produced estimates that agreed with the measured temperature. We found that the effect of flame stretch and preferential diffusion is changed along the flame surface which has spatially non-uniform stretch rate, causing a temperature gradient along the surface, which in turn transfers heat and changes the flame temperature. Thus, heat transfer along the flame surface is an important factor in estimating flame temperature. In addition, a second temperature gradient appears downstream just behind the flame, because the temperature of the burned gas is also non-uniform. Therefore, conductive heat transfer is believed to occur between the flame and the burned gas. The effect of the downstream heat transfer is not as large as that of the heat transfer along the flame surface.  相似文献

An experimental and numerical study on laminar burning velocities of hydrogen/air flames was performed at low pressure, room temperature, and different equivalence ratios. Flames were generated using a small contoured slot-type nozzle burner (5 mm × 13.8  mm). Measurements of laminar burning velocity were conducted using the angle method combined with Schlieren photography. Numerical calculations were also conducted using existing detailed reaction mechanisms and transport properties. Additionally, an analysis of the intrinsic flame instabilities of hydrogen/air flames at low pressure was performed. Results show that the behavior of the laminar burning velocity is not regular when decreasing pressure and that it depends on the equivalence ratio range. The behavior of the laminar burning velocity with decreasing pressure can be reasonably predicted using existing reaction mechanisms; however changes in the magnitude of the laminar burning velocity are underestimated. Finally, it has been found experimentally and proved analytically that the intrinsic flame instabilities are reduced when decreasing the pressure at sub-atmospheric conditions.  相似文献

A commercial swirl burner for industrial gas turbine combustors was equipped with an optically accessible combustion chamber and installed in a high-pressure test-rig. Several premixed natural gas/air flames at pressures between 3 and 6 bar and thermal powers of up to 1 MW were studied by using a variety of measurement techniques. These include particle image velocimetry (PIV) for the investigation of the flow field, one-dimensional laser Raman scattering for the determination of the joint probability density functions of major species concentrations, mixture fraction and temperature, planar laser induced fluorescence (PLIF) of OH for the visualization of the flame front, chemiluminescence measurements of OH* for determining the lift-off height and size of the flame and acoustic recordings. The results give insights into important flame properties like the flow field structure, the premixing quality and the turbulence–flame interaction as well as their dependency on operating parameters like pressure, inflow velocity and equivalence ratio. The 1D Raman measurements yielded information about the gradients and variation of the mixture fraction and the quality of the fuel/air mixing, as well as the reaction progress. The OH PLIF images showed that the flame was located between the inflow of fresh gas and the recirculated combustion products. The flame front structures varied significantly with Reynolds number from wrinkled flame fronts to fragmented and strongly corrugated flame fronts. All results are combined in one database that can be used for the validation of numerical simulations.  相似文献
