Abstract— Passive‐matrix‐driven field‐sequential‐color (FSC) displays were successfully fabricated. It makes use of a new multiplex driving scheme that does not depend on voltage averaging. Instead, a transient response of the liquid crystal is employed. An addressing and response time of less than 70 μsec and 2.0 msec, respectively, are used. Scanning time compensation is also introduced to improve the brightness uniformity of the display.  相似文献

Traditional content-based image retrieval (CBIR) scheme with assumption of independent individual images in large-scale collections suffers from poor retrieval performance. In medical applications, images usually exist in the form of image bags and each bag includes multiple relevant images of the same perceptual meaning. In this paper, based on these natural image bags, we explore a new scheme to improve the performance of medical image retrieval. It is feasible and efficient to search the bag-based medical image collection by providing a query bag. However, there is a critical problem of noisy images which may present in image bags and severely affect the retrieval performance. A new three-stage solution is proposed to perform the retrieval and handle the noisy images. In stage 1, in order to alleviate the influence of noisy images, we associate each image in the image bags with a relevance degree. In stage 2, a novel similarity aggregation method is proposed to incorporate image relevance and feature importance into the similarity computation process. In stage 3, we obtain the final image relevance in an adaptive way which can consider both image bag similarity and individual image similarity. The experiments demonstrate that the proposed approach can improve the image retrieval performance significantly.  相似文献

Abstract— High‐quality video‐format converters apply motion estimation and motion compensation to prevent jitter resulting from picture‐rate conversion, and aliasing due to de‐interlacing, in sequences with motion. Although initially considered as too expensive, high‐quality conversion is now economically feasible, and since 1995 has been available in consumer television ICs. This paper addresses the issues in format conversion and shows recent progress, introducing a new high‐quality video‐format‐conversion IC for consumer applications.  相似文献

Abstract— The TFT‐LCD market is growing rapidly, and the replacement of CRT TV by LCD TV requires the implementation of LC modes with wide viewing angles and high brightness. The IPS mode is an excellent technology to realize wide viewing angles, but it has a low aperture ratio that has now been improved by Advanced Super‐IPS (AS‐IPS). In this paper, we propose a novel pixel structure design that not only increases the aperture ratio but also reduces the crosstalk. We have improved the current AS‐IPS aperture ratio by 1.25 times and effectively reduced the capacitive coupling ratio from 1.2% to 0.05%.  相似文献

Abstract— A fringe‐field‐switching (FFS) mode cell having LC alignment has been developed by using a non‐rubbing method, a ion‐beam‐alignment method on a‐C:H thin film, to analyze the electro‐optical characteristics of this cell. The suitable inorganic thin film for FFS‐LCDs and the alignment capabilities of nematic liquid crystal (NLC) have been studied. An excellent voltage‐transmittance (V‐T) and response‐time curve for the ion‐beam‐aligned FFS‐LCDs were observed using oblique ion‐beam exposure on DLC thin films.  相似文献

Abstract— An autostereoscopic liquid‐crystal display (LCD) consists of two parallax barriers and an LCD including a liquid‐crystal panel, and a backlight panel is proposed. Parallax barrier 1 is located between the backlight panel and the liquid‐crystal panel, and Parallax barrier 2 is located between the liquid‐crystal panel and viewers. The operation principle of the autostereoscopic display and the calculation equations for the parallax barriers are described in detail. The autostereoscopic LCD was developed and produces high‐quality stereoscopic images without cross‐talk at the optimal viewing distance and less cross‐talk than a conventional one based on one parallax barrier at other viewing distances.  相似文献

Abstract— Solution‐processed double‐layered ionic p‐i‐n organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs), comprised of an emitting material layer doped with an organometallic green phosphor and a photo‐cross‐linked hole‐transporting layer doped with photo‐initiator is reported. The fabricated OLEDs were annealed using simultaneous thermal and electrical treatments to form a double‐layered ionic p‐i‐n structure. As a result, an annealed double‐layered OLED with a peak brightness over 20,000 cd/m2 (20 V, 390 mA/cm2) and a peak efficiency of 15 cd/A (6 V, 210 cd/m2) was achieved.  相似文献

Abstract— This article addresses spontaneously polarized light emission from GaN‐based light‐emitting diodes (LEDs) fabricated on electrically non‐polar crystallographic orientations and application of spontaneously polarized emission for backlighting of liquid‐crystal displays (LCDs). The first half of the article describes polarized light emission from GaN‐based LEDs and its role in solid‐state lighting technology. The second half reports on our experimental work to explore the potential of non‐polar LEDs for LCD backlighting applications. Optical transmission of non‐polar LED emission was characterized through a liquid‐crystal layer. Extinction ratios of 0.21 were measured between zero and an applied bias voltage to the liquid‐crystal cells. These extinction ratios are not particularly high yet; nevertheless, the experiment has demonstrated the potential of such non‐polar LEDs for LCD backlighting.  相似文献

In this article, a novel mm‐wave dielectric image‐guide (DIG) to CPW transition is proposed, fabricated, and successfully tested in the silicon technology. A DIG is implemented on high resistivity Silicon‐On‐Insulator (SOI) wafer. The image‐guide height and handle layer thickness are 500 μm and 130 μm, respectively. An Aluminum coplanar waveguide is patterned over the DIG. The measured transmission characteristics of the transition are in acceptable agreement with the simulation results. Abstract— The in‐plane‐switching (IPS) mode exhibits an inherently wide viewing angle and has been widely used for liquid‐crystal‐display (LCD) TVs. However, its transmittance is limited to ~76% compared to that of a twisted‐nematic (TN) cell if a positive‐dielectric‐anisotropy LC is employed. A special electrode configuration that fuses the switching mechanism of the conventional IPS and the fringe‐field switching (FFS) to boost the transmittance to ~90% using a positive LC has been developed. The new mode exhibits an equally wide viewing angle as the IPS and FFS modes.  相似文献

For the first time, the rectangular dielectric resonator (DR) operating in higher‐order TE3δ1 mode is investigated and used as a magnetic‐dipole driver to design quasi‐Yagi antenna with high gain. For further enhancing the antenna gain, a near‐zero‐index (NZI) metamaterial (NZIM) is proposed instead of the traditional directors and put in the front of DR driver. It is a simple structure and composed of a set of the parallel metallic lines printed on a substrate along the end‐fire direction. Benefiting from the higher‐order mode operation of the DR and NZIM, the realized gain of the proposed antenna can reach 10.3 dBi, including the gain improvement of 2 dBi resulting from the employed NZIM. To verify the design concept, the prototype of quasi‐Yagi DR antenna with NZIM is fabricated and characterized. The measured results agree very well with the simulated results.  相似文献

Abstract— Bit‐partitioned and conventional shifts, as well as type transformations of multimedia data, are frequently used for display image‐processing systems. A data manipulation unit with fault‐recovery capability based on redundancies is proposed for system‐on‐panel with low processing technology yield. Utilizing data manipulations that are similar to normal shift operation, a proposed data‐manipulation unit is designed with a few additional paths added to the existing barrel shifter. The design methodologies are verified with FPGA and the performance is evaluated in terms of the advantages.  相似文献

This survey gives an overview of the current state of the art in GPU techniques for interactive large‐scale volume visualization. Modern techniques in this field have brought about a sea change in how interactive visualization and analysis of giga‐, tera‐ and petabytes of volume data can be enabled on GPUs. In addition to combining the parallel processing power of GPUs with out‐of‐core methods and data streaming, a major enabler for interactivity is making both the computational and the visualization effort proportional to the amount and resolution of data that is actually visible on screen, i.e. ‘output‐sensitive’ algorithms and system designs. This leads to recent output‐sensitive approaches that are ‘ray‐guided’, ‘visualization‐driven’ or ‘display‐aware’. In this survey, we focus on these characteristics and propose a new categorization of GPU‐based large‐scale volume visualization techniques based on the notions of actual output‐resolution visibility and the current working set of volume bricks—the current subset of data that is minimally required to produce an output image of the desired display resolution. Furthermore, we discuss the differences and similarities of different rendering and data traversal strategies in volume rendering by putting them into a common context—the notion of address translation. For our purposes here, we view parallel (distributed) visualization using clusters as an orthogonal set of techniques that we do not discuss in detail but that can be used in conjunction with what we present in this survey.  相似文献

A flexible vertically stacked flexible polychromatic color‐tunable OLED has been developed by means of low resistive intermediate electrode technology. The polychromatic OLED has a capability to show 16 million colors with 105% National Television Committee Standard (NTSC) color reproduction. The device can produce arbitrary shape with arbitrary colors, suitable for artistic expressions, just as many as those used in information displays. Independently controlled red, green, and blue light‐emitting layers are stacked vertically. With conventional indium tin oxide technology, because of the temperature restriction, it was quite difficult to achieve low resistance on plastic substrate. The reported numbers were all more than 80 Ω/□. According to the surface mobility control using Fick's law analysis, low sheet resistance 7.34 Ω/□ on plastic film was developed. At first, flexible 7.17 cm2 transparent OLED was fabricated for the performance confirmation of transparent electrode. And then polychromatic color‐tunable OLED with the same size were successfully fabricated on plastic. With optical length optimization for each color stack of polychromatic OLED, more than 100% color reproduction in National Television Committee Standard was achieved by stack design. The polychromatic device can be used for colored illumination, as well as for organic‐light‐emitting display pixels for three times emission than conventional pixel design. The device is fabricated on plastic substrate so that the polychromatic organic‐light‐emitting‐diode device is manufacturable with roll‐to‐roll production line.  相似文献

Abstract— A high‐pixel‐rate, high‐contrast (30,000:1) wide‐color‐gamut grating‐light‐valve laser projector is reported. A new optical engine enabling high‐frame‐rate (240 Hz) scan projection is employed. Panoramic wide‐angle‐scan projection with a 64:9 aspect ratio was also developed. Speckle noise is eliminated using a simple but highly efficient technique. The optical throughput efficiency of the grating‐light‐valve laser projector is reviewed.  相似文献

Power saving is a prevailing concern in desktop computers and, especially, in battery‐powered devices such as mobile phones. This is generating a growing demand for power‐aware graphics applications that can extend battery life, while preserving good quality. In this paper, we address this issue by presenting a real‐time power‐efficient rendering framework, able to dynamically select the rendering configuration with the best quality within a given power budget. Different from the current state of the art, our method does not require precomputation of the whole camera‐view space, nor Pareto curves to explore the vast power‐error space; as such, it can also handle dynamic scenes. Our algorithm is based on two key components: our novel power prediction model, and our runtime quality error estimation mechanism. These components allow us to search for the optimal rendering configuration at runtime, being transparent to the user. We demonstrate the performance of our framework on two different platforms: a desktop computer, and a mobile device. In both cases, we produce results close to the maximum quality, while achieving significant power savings.  相似文献

Abstract— A viewing‐angle‐controllable liquid‐crystal display (LCD) is proposed. When the device is only driven by an in‐plane electric field, it exhibits a wide‐viewing‐angle (WVA) mode. And it exhibits narrow‐viewing‐angle (NVA) mode when it is driven by a vertical electric field as well as an in‐plane electric field. In this manner, the viewing angle of the device can be controlled from 100° to 30°. The device exhibits a good viewing‐angle‐controlling characteristic and high transmittance.  相似文献

Abstract— A liquid‐crystal panel integrated with a gate driver and a source driver by using amorphous In—Ga—Zn‐oxide TFTs was designed, prototyped, and evaluated. By using the process of bottom‐gate bottom‐contact (BGBC) TFTs, amorphous In—Ga—Zn‐oxide TFTs with superior characteristics were provided. Further, for the first time in the world, a 4‐in. QVGA liquid‐crystal panel integrated with a gate driver and a source driver was developed by using BGBC TFTs formed from an oxide semiconductor. By evaluating the liquid‐crystal panel, its functionality was successfully demonstrate. Based on the findings, it is believed that the novel BGBC amorphous In—Ga—Zn‐oxide TFT will be a promising candidate for future large‐screen backplanes having high definition.  相似文献
