VIDOS, a system for video editing and format conversion over the Internet

VIDOS is a Java-based server–client video management system that permits one to customize a personal version of any downloadable digital video file over the Internet or local intranet. It enables one, without purchasing expensive video editing software, to edit the video spatially and temporally, to specify the desired zoom factor, frame rate and video format, and to choose the nature and quality of digital compression before downloading the edited video. VIDOS permits videos to be adapted to suit their end uses. By potentially reducing their size, it can improve corporate and personal efficiency by speeding network transfers and cutting disc storage requirements.     

Refilming with Depth-Inferred Videos

Compared to still image editing, content-based video editing faces the additional challenges of maintaining the spatiotemporal consistency with respect to geometry. This brings up difficulties of seamlessly modifying video content, for instance, inserting or removing an object. In this paper, we present a new video editing system for creating spatiotemporally consistent and visually appealing refilming effects. Unlike the typical filming practice, our system requires no labor-intensive construction of 3D models/surfaces mimicking the real scene. Instead, it is based on an unsupervised inference of view-dependent depth maps for all video frames. We provide interactive tools requiring only a small amount of user input to perform elementary video content editing, such as separating video layers, completing background scene, and extracting moving objects. These tools can be utilized to produce a variety of visual effects in our system, including but not limited to video composition, "predatorrdquo effect, bullet-time, depth-of-field, and fog synthesis. Some of the effects can be achieved in real time.

Videoshop: A new framework for spatio-temporal video editing in gradient domain

This paper proposes a new framework for video editing in gradient domain. The spatio-temporal gradient fields of target videos are modified and/or mixed to generate a new gradient field which is usually not integrable. We compare two methods to solve this “mixed gradient problem”, i.e., the variational method and loopy belief propagation. We propose a 3D video integration algorithm, which uses the variational method to find the potential function whose gradient field is closest to the mixed gradient field in the sense of least squares. The video is reconstructed by solving a 3D Poisson equation. The main contributions of our framework lie in three aspects: first, we derive a straightforward extension of current 2D gradient technique to 3D space, thus resulting in a novel video editing framework, which is very different from all current video editing software; secondly, we propose using a fast and accurate 3D discrete Poisson solver which uses diagonal multigrids to solve the 3D Poisson equation, which is up to twice as fast as a simple conventional multigrid algorithm; finally, we introduce a set of new applications, such as face replacement and painting, high dynamic range video compression and graphcut based video compositing. A set of gradient operators is also provided to the user for editing purposes. We evaluate our algorithm using a variety of examples for image/video or video/video pairs. The resulting video can be seamlessly reconstructed.
