A mathematical model of temperature and wheat moisture content distribution inside a triangular spouted bed dryer was developed. The model is based on analysis of heat and mass transfer inside the dryer. In addition to that, an empirical bulk density model has been developed for wheat and included in the drying simulation. A laboratory-scale triangular spouted bed (TSB) dryer was used to dry wheat grain to validate the model. The dryer was divided into three sections, namely spouting, downcomer, and fountain. A series of drying runs were conducted to record moisture and temperature profile. There were two distinct regions observed during wheat drying. A constant rate period was observed during the initial drying stage and the falling rate period took place at the later drying stage. Initial moisture content and operating drying temperature governed the timing of transition from constant rate period to falling rate period. The model can be used to accurately predict the moisture content of wheat during drying. The temperature prediction inside the TSB dryer was less accurate, especially at high temperatures due to heat losses in the experimental dryer. Further studies are needed to improve the accuracy of this model, especially with regard to the temperature prediction.  相似文献

he performance of a laboratory scale jet spouted bed (JSB) for drying rice flour slurry was studied. The bed consisted of ceramic balls (5028 mm diameter) and the rice flour slurry was sprayed onto the moving particle surface near the inlet part. All the experiments were carried out at the jet spouting regime. This regime has high bed void fraction and violent movement and collision of bed particles. As a result, the dried product layer is attrited from particle surface as a fine powder and entrained from the bed by the spouting air. The experimental result were presented to show the effects of static bed height, inlet air flow rate and temperature, and feed concentration and flow rate on the outlet air temperature, thernal efficiency, and mean particle size and moisture content of the product. Asimple mathematical model, which is based on the conservation of mass and energy equations, was developed. Predicted results agreed well with those obtained from the experiment.  相似文献

A multiple porous draft tube spouted bed (MPDTSB) was used to carry out drying of Ragi (Eleusine coracana), Barley, and Wheat grains. Batch experiments were conducted under varied conditions of initial moisture contents of grains, air inlet temperatures, and airflow rates. The draft tube parameters and fluid inlet sizes were also varied in the study. The results indicated that MPDTSB has the potential to be used for scale up to large-scale solids drying. In addition, two single porous draft tube spouted beds (SPDTSBs) were used for comparison with MPDTSB; the batch drying times in the MPDTSB were found to be lower when compared to those in SPDTSB under identical operating conditions.  相似文献

Jet spouted beds that consisted of a transparent Plexiglas cylindrical column of 1 m high and a conical base with cone angles of 30°, 36°, and 40° were used in this study. The particles used were spherical glass beads with an average diameter of 1.7, 2.1 and 3 mm, respectively, and particle size of 2.2 – 3.1 mm, non‐spherical rice particles. The effect of size and shape of particles, and static bed height on the minimum jet spouting velocity, and standard deviation of pressure fluctuations, was investigated. The results show that the minimum jet spouting velocity and pressure drop increased as the bed height and particle size increased. The minimum jet spouting velocity could be determined from the plot of standard deviation of pressure fluctuations vs. superficial gas velocity. The results obtained were in close agreement with the results of other methods in the literature.  相似文献

The drying of sawdust was studied in a conical spouted bed pilot plant in order to adapt this feed for the pyrolysis process. Air at different temperatures was used and the effect of sawdust particle size and operating gas velocity was studied. Batch operation was performed with no internal device and with nonporous and open-sided draft tubes in order to ascertain the optimum configuration of the contactor. Although the nonporous draft tube required the lowest minimum spouting velocity, its performance was poor due to deficient gas–solid contact. Configurations with open-sided draft tubes and with no internal devices had higher efficiencies because of their better contacts. An increase in air temperature resulted in a reduction in drying time but the operating conditions need to be fine-tuned to ensure proper energy efficiency.  相似文献

A draft tube spouted bed dryer with inert particles was used for drying suspensions. The effects of the operating conditions on dryer throughput and product quality were investigated. Experiments were performed in a cylindrical column 215 mm in diameter with a draft tube 70 mm in diameter and 900 mm in length. The bed was made of polyethylene particles, 3.3 mm in diameter with a density of 921 kg/m3. The fungicide Zineb, calcium carbonate, calcium stearate and pure water were used as feeding materials. A drying model using the continuity and momentum equations for turbulent accelerating two‐phase flows and conventional rate equations is proposed and discussed. The work is relevant for estimating dryer performance.  相似文献

Microwave-assisted spouted bed (MSBD) drying of lettuce cubes was investigated experimentally. Response surface methodology was used to optimize the process with spouting air temperature, microwave power level, and superficial air velocity. The dried product obtained was compared with that obtained using other drying technologies such as hot air drying, air spouted bed drying, vacuum microwave drying, and vacuum freeze drying. The comparison is based on the rehydration ratio, chlorophyll content of the product, color, and the drying time required.  相似文献

Burdock cube samples were dried using hot air and microwave pulsed spouted bed drying (MPSBD). Hot air drying was carried out at three temperatures (70, 80, and 90°C). MPSBD was carried out at three microwave power levels (1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 W/g). The results showed that MPSBD samples dried at 2.0 W/g for 30 min and at 1.0 W/g for 40 min had desirable color, flavor, and textural attributes. Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry results showed that the samples dried using MPSBD were richer in flavor compounds, especially in esters, compared to the hot air–dried samples.  相似文献

The objective of this work was to derive and experimentally verify a hybrid CST/neural network model to determine the moisture content of the powders produced during paste drying in a spouted bed and describe the highly coupled heat and the mass transfer. The model was derived from overall energy and mass balances with effective drying kinetics given by a neural network. Purple-fleshed sweet potatos (PFSP) were loaded into a laboratory-scale, microwave-assisted spouted bed with a coating of sodium alginate (SA) of 0, 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.8% (w/w) for both steam-blanching pretreated and fresh-cut raw samples. The drying curves, rehydration ratio, and maximum penetrating forces were studied for final products; color changes and anthocyanin level were also taken into consideration. It was concluded that coating processing forms barriers to moisture content, which changes the dielectric properties of PFSP cubes and shortens the drying time; however, coating PFSP cubes with SA did not lead to a porous microstructure in the final products. The final hardness was high and rehydration ratio was low. Steam-blanching was helpful for color and anthocyanin-level retention compared with raw samples. In sum, microwave-assisted spouted bed (MWSB) drying of PFSP cubes is not an ideal processing method, even with coating treatment, but blanching is an approach to obtain products with high anthocyanin level and fine purple color.  相似文献

Fluidized bed dryers are often used to extract water from granular materials. When the drying process is mainly limited by the resistance against water transport inside the particle the drying behaviour is said to be diffusion-limited. In the literature there are several models that predict this drying process with very diverging results. In this study a model is set up to arrive at a better prediction for this drying process. The heat and mass transfer in the granular material and the drying air is described. The resulting equations are solved numerically. The fluid-dynamic characteristics and evaporation capacities of several substrates (pure water, a mixture of water and carbohydrates, and apple pulps with maltodextrines) for conical spouted bed, fluidized bed and pneumatic dryers was compared.

For fluidized and spouted beds, the presence of fluids increased the fluid-dynamics parameters over the values when only inert particles were present in the beds. In both cases it was proposed correlations to predict those effects. In the spouted bed drier, increasing the load of inert particles resulted in a slight increase of the water evaporation capacity, while in the fluidized bed drier the effect was more marked. For fluidized and spouted beds, under similar operation conditions, the maximums of the suspension drying capacities are lower than the values of water evaporation, but for pneumatic drying this effect was the opposite. In general terms, the maximal capacities of fluidized bed dryers are higher than those observed in the spouted bed dryers.  相似文献
