A Note on Development of Industrial Drying Technology in China

Industrial drying technology in Chinese industry has been developing rapidly since the early 1980s. In the past 30 years, many products on both a small and a large scale have been initiated. The number of dryer varieties made in China has expanded from 10 to 60. About 20,000–30,000 dryers are made in China each year. Review of this development indicates that the tremendous progress in drying technology is due to a series of policy decisions and measures that were carried out, such as imported technology assimilation and further improvement of advanced overseas technology combining production and research and development. Drying technology development has benefited from the rapid economic development in China as well as market pull and market competition. Some suggestions are also put forward for future trends in this industry.     

Development of Solar Drying

ABSTRACT

Importance of Solar Drying is increasing worldwide, especially in areas where the use of the abundant, renewable and clean solar energy is essentially advantageous. In the developing countries and in rural areas the traditional open-air drying methods should be substituted by the more effective and more economic solar drying technologies.

R&D needs should be considered in the basic research and experimental fields; in performance measurement; in the modelling-simulation-design and testing. The international co-operation of experts should be improved and more efforts would be needed in the policy and in the public information.     

R&D Needs and Opportunities in Pulse Combustion and Pulse Combustion Drying

This short communication attempts to summarize briefly the authors’ opinions on R&D needs and opportunities for basic as well as applied research in pulse combustion and pulse combustion drying. It is not all-inclusive. Only minimal citations are made to relevant literature as readers interested in pro-actively pursuing this area can locate it reasonably easily. The objective in presenting this verview is to encourage new researchers in this fascinating and challenging field.
