This paper investigates multiuser diversity in the context of cellular networks, with emphasis on the gains that can be achieved by adaptively inducing fluctuations in the environment. In a cellular system that at any time schedules for service the user with the best channel at that time, the expected service rate increases with the variability of the channel. Controlling the fluctuations using available feedback can further increase the expected service rate. This paper proposes a scheme for controlling fluctuations using only the feedback required to exploit multiuser diversity. Fluctuations are induced by introducing at the base station another transmit antenna that sends out the same signal but at a different phase from the first one, and then adaptively varying the phase difference. The performance of the scheme (for the same total transmitted power) is evaluated when the users are infinitely back-logged or have finite queues, and when the channels are Rayleigh or Ricean distributed. Fairness issues and performance of the scheme under an additional fairness mechanism are also investigated in the context of users with finite queues. In all scenarios the performance is better when fluctuations are adaptively induced than when the fluctuations are randomly induced or not induced at all.  相似文献

We study the signal-to-interference (SIR) performance of linear multiuser receivers in random environments, where signals from the users arrive in “random directions.” Such a random environment may arise in a DS-CDMA system with random signature sequences, or in a system with antenna diversity where the randomness is due to channel fading. Assuming that such random directions can be tracked by the receiver, the resulting SIR performance is a function of the directions and therefore also random. We study the asymptotic distribution of this random performance in the regime where both the number of users K and the number of degrees of freedom N in the system are large, but keeping their ratio fixed. Our results show that for both the decorrelator and the minimum mean-square error (MMSE) receiver, the variance of the SIR distribution decreases like 1/N, and the SIR distribution is asymptotically Gaussian. We compute closed-form expressions for the asymptotic means and variances for both receivers. Simulation results are presented to verify the accuracy of the asymptotic results for finite-sized systems  相似文献

Using Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) architecture in cognitive radio (CR) secondary users improves the system performance in terms of interference cancellation and data rate enhancement but at the expense of adding complexity and cost. A solution to reduce this complexity is employing radio frequency (RF) beamforming networks at the transmitter/receiver front-ends. In this paper, we consider a MIMO secondary user equipped with such RF beamforming network. Moreover, we find the transmit/receive optimum RF beamforming network for a MIMO spatial multiplexing system. We evaluate the performance of the optimally designed RF beamforming technique over a Rician channel via computer simulations. The simulation results are assessed for different RF beamforming structures and the number of primary transmitters which cause interference on the secondary receiver.  相似文献

A spatial compatible user grouping algorithm is proposed to reduce CoChannel Interference (CCI) in Space Division Multiple Access (SDMA) multiuser Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) systems. We evaluate the interferences among Users by use of distances between row spaces spanned by users' channel matrixes, then control frequency sharing according to the compatible user grouping algorithm. Results show that the row space distance algorithm outperforms others because it can fully utilize the information from users' channel matrixes, especially the matrix structure information. The results also prove that the algorithm based on channel matrix structure analysis is a better candidate for spatial compatibility approximation.  相似文献

This letter studies the diversity advantage of single and multiuser systems utilizing multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antennas for known channels at the transmitter and receiver(s) by investigating the overall distribution of the resulting channel. For the single-user case, the resultant channel is taken as the largest singular value of the MIMO channel whereas for the multiuser scenario, the resultant channel is obtained by a recently proposed joint-channel diagonalization. The channel distribution is studied using hypothesis testing with the hypothesis that the distribution follows a Nakagami-m distribution with given parameters. It is concluded from the chi-square goodness-of-fit test that the distribution of the resultant channel for single or multiuser MIMO channel is well matched with a Nakagami-m distribution.  相似文献

Diversity combining techniques are applied in mobile radio communications as a means of performance improvement in a fading multipath environment. Adaptive equalizers which incorporate diversity combining were shown to combat intersymbol interference (ISI) caused by multipath provided that the fading is sufficiently slow. However, for fast fading rates, noncoherent techniques are often desirable. In this paper, we examine the performance of several coherent and noncoherent detectors that make use of diversity combining. In particular, the decorrelating filter is shown to provide reliable performance for a frequency-selective Rayleigh fading multipath channel with ISI. Numerical and simulation results are presented for a channel with two independent Rayleigh fading paths. Signal design issues which arise in the implementation of the decorrelating detector and the zero-forcing equalizer are discussed.  相似文献

We consider the use of multiple antennas at the transmitter and/or the receiver to provide open-loop spatial diversity in a multiuser wireless data network. With channel quality information (CQI) available to the transmitter, and by always scheduling the transmission to the active user having the best channel conditions at the time of scheduling, another form of diversity, termed multiuser diversity, is obtained in a data system. This paper provides an analysis of the interaction between these two forms of diversity. From a network point of view, we prove that the asymptotic sum rate, in the limit of a large number of active homogeneous users and subject to the same average total transmit power, is inversely related to the number of transmit antennas for independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) flat Rayleigh fading channels. In the case of i.i.d. flat Rician fading, the asymptotic sum rate also depends inversely on the number of transmit antennas, but directly on the number of receive antennas. Numerically, we show that the total diversity gain is also constrained by finite CQI quantization and channel fading statistics.  相似文献

In wireless fading channels, multiuser diversity can be exploited by scheduling users to transmit when their channel conditions are favorable. This leads to a sum throughput that increases with the number of users and, in certain cases, achieves capacity. However, such scheduling requires global knowledge of every user's channel gain, which may be difficult to obtain in some situations. This paper addresses contention-based protocols for exploiting multiuser diversity with only local channel knowledge. A variation of the ALOHA protocol is given in which users attempt to exploit multiuser diversity gains, but suffer contention losses due to the distributed channel knowledge. The growth rate of the sum throughput for this protocol is characterized in a backlogged system under both short-term and long-term average power constraints. A simple "fixed-rate" system is shown to be asymptotically optimal and to achieve the same growth rate as in a system with an optimal centralized scheduler. Moreover, asymptotically, the fraction of throughput lost due to contention is shown to be 1/e. Also, in a system with random arrivals and an infinite user population, a variation of this ALOHA protocol is shown to be stable for any total arrival rate, given that users can estimate the backlog.  相似文献

The performance of a successive-cancellation multiuser detector (SC-MUD) for narrow-band signals operating in the Rayleigh-fading channel is shown to deteriorate severely unless very large power margins at the receiver are maintained. To mitigate this deterioration, antenna diversity is applied and adapted to the SC-MUD. In each detection stage, the best signal for detection and the corresponding combining weights are determined jointly. Two criteria for selecting the best signal based on maximizing the signal-to-noise-plus-interference ratio and maximizing the minimum distance-to-noise ratio, respectively, are proposed and evaluated. For signal combining, zero forcing and minimum mean square error (mmse) combining are considered. The obtained results show that the SC-MUD with mmse combining performs close to maximum likelihood joint detection while keeping a much lower computational complexity when the number of users is less than the number of receive antennas. The effect of channel-estimation errors is investigated for orthogonal training sequences and shown to result in a minor degradation compared to perfect estimation.  相似文献

Code division multiple-access (CDMA) techniques using interference cancellation are being explored for the capacity increase in third-generation universal mobile telecommunications systems. However, multipath fading is a major constraint on the performance of wireless CDMA systems, with multipath propagation worsening the effects of multiple-access interference, and fading on propagation paths leading to the near far problem. Multiuser detection, exploiting the knowledge of other users to cancel multiple-access interference, has the capability of eliminating the near far problem and providing a significant capacity increase in CDMA systems. On the other hand, diversity techniques effectively combat the fading effects of the channel. This paper investigates multiuser receivers that combine explicit antenna diversity, RAKE multipath diversity, and multipath decorrelating detection. Both coherent reception with maximal-ratio combining and differentially coherent reception with equal-gain combining are analyzed. The results demonstrate a significant increase in up-link capacity over the conventional RAKE receiver, at the expense of complexity. In the case of limited receiver complexity, where the number of correlators is less than the number of resolvable paths at the RAKE front-end, antenna diversity is shown to be effective in reducing residual multiple-access interference  相似文献

This paper studies the resource allocation for a multi-user two-way amplify-and-forward (AF) relay network over orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) technology,where all users communicate with their pre-assigned partners.Using convex optimization techniques,an optimal solution tominimize the total transmit power while satisfy each user-pair’s data rate requirements is proposed.We divide the resource allocation problem into two subproblems:(1) power optimization within user-pair and relay in each subcarrier.(2) optimal subcarrier allocation and sum power assignment among N parallel OFDM subcarriers.Closed-form expressions of the power among user-pair and relay can be obtained in subproblem (1),and so the proposed algorithm decreases the variable dimensionality of the objective function to reduce the complexity of this optimization problem.To solve it,a three-step suboptimal approach is proposed to assign the resources to user-pairs:Firstly,decompose each user-pair into two sub user-pairs which have one-way and two-way relaying transmission modes.Secondly,allocate the subcarriers to the new mode user-pairs and assign the transmit power to each carrier.Thirdly,distribute the assigned power to three nodes allocated in the subcarrier.Simulation results demonstrate the significant power is saved with the proposed solutions,as compared to a fixed subcarrier allocation.  相似文献

This paper presents a middleware platform for managing devices that operate in heterogeneous environments. The proposed management framework supports terminal-controlled, preference-based access network selection. Two separate problems are identified in this domain: one involving the computation of optimal allocations of services to access networks and quality levels (service configuration), and one concerning the dynamic inference of the user’s preferences, according to the usage context (user profiling). This paper includes an approach to the definition, mathematical formulation and solution of both these problems. Indicative results of the proposed solution methods are presented in the context of a real-life scenario simulating a day in the life of an ordinary user.  相似文献

This paper proposes several blind adaptive receivers to eliminate multiple-access interference (MAI), intersymbol interference (ISI), and interchip interference (ICI) in direct-sequence code-division multiple access (DS/CDMA) downlink multiuser systems. We use the following concepts to formulate the cost function: 1) the variance of the despreading output approaches to the variance of the desired signal and 2) the discreteness property of the input signal. The proposed approaches are called variance-oriented approaches (VOAs). The VOA is then applied to three proposed receiver structures, especially the generalized sidelobe canceller (GSC) scheme that is generally the concept of spatial domain in beamforming system, to eliminate the MAI by one particular constraint in temporal domain. Besides, by this constraint, GSC filter possesses the property of global convergence in multipath environment once the channel estimation is appropriate. Simulation examples are shown to demonstrate the effectiveness and comparison of the proposed blind adaptive receivers.  相似文献

提出了一种能高效利用多用户分集和空分复用增益的有限反馈空分多址(SDMA,space division multiple access)方法。首先利用子空间扰动的方法构造了一种具有分簇结构的多用户预编码码本。基于该码本,进一步给出了一种新型的多用户机会调度算法,该算法利用码本的簇结构实现对信道条件匹配的用户组进行快速的机会调度,同时确定被调度用户的首选码字。仿真结果表明,在蜂窝网络中,与传统的有限反馈SDMA方法相比,所提方法可以在不明显增加反馈开销的前提下显著提高系统吞吐量。  相似文献

研究当接收天线不少于发送天线时多输入多输出(MIMO)系统的多用户分集能力。首先从理论上分析了发送天线个数等于1和2时最大似然接收和迫零接收系统的平均吞吐量和调度增益,以及仿真分析了发送天线个数大于2时系统性能。理论分析和仿真表明:在多用户的MIMO系统中,接收的平均信噪比、用户个数、收发天线个数、接收机的结构等对于多用户分集有很大的影响。当发送天线个数为1时,接收天线较少(1,2,3)和平均信噪比为.10dB时调度增益很大,但调度增益随着天线个数和发送功率增大急剧下降。和最大似然接收相比,迫零接收具有更大的多用户分集增益,因此迫零接收机的吞吐量可以很容易超过最大似然接收机。  相似文献

多用户MIMO(Multi-input multi-output)系统中,研究空间相关对联合空间分集和多用户分集的性能影响.推导了接收天线之间存在相关的多用户MIMO STBC(Space-time block coding)和MIMO MRT/MRC(Maximum-ratio-transmis-sion/maximal-ratio-combining)系统的中断容量、平均容量表达式,并由此进行性能分析.计算机仿真验证了理论分析的有效性.结果表明,相对于闭环的多用户MI-MO MRT/MRC系统,空间相关下开环的多用户MIMO STBC系统具有较低的平均容量和较高的调度增益.  相似文献

The Global Mobility Network (GLOMONET) is rapidly becoming important as well as a popular feature in today's high‐performance network. The legal mobile users enjoy life using the ubiquitous services via GLOMONET. However, because of the broadcast nature of the wireless channel, providing user authentication along with the privacy and anonymity of the users in GLOMONET is indeed a challenging task. In this article, we come up with a secure and expeditious mobile communication environment using symmetric key cryptosystem to ensure mobile users' anonymity and privacy against eavesdroppers and backward/forward secrecy of the session key. Our scheme can also protect numerous security threats, like man‐in‐the‐middle attack, known session key attack, lost smartcard attack, and forgery attack. Furthermore, we put forward a new technique named as “friendly foreign agent policy,” where many foreign agents can make different groups among themselves and perform important responsibilities to authenticate a legitimate mobile user without interfering his or her home agent even though the mobile user moves to a new location, covered by a new foreign agent (belongs to the same group). Security and performance analyses show that the proposed scheme is secure and more efficient as compared with other competitive schemes for GLOMONET environments.  相似文献
