本文给出了四波混频的原理及特点,理论上推导了四波混频的产生,并给出了四波混频在光纤通信的密集波分复用、相位共轭波产生、四波混频实时光学检测中的应用.本文的研究目的旨在较为全面地掌握四波混频这一典型的非线性光学效应的应用方向,通过总结四波混频在已经较为成熟的研究领域的具体应用及研究方法,借此寻找四波混频更广泛的应用领域.  相似文献

从理论上研究了不对称双量子点系统内的Kerr非线性增强效应。系统内量子点间的电压隧穿效应,可以在两个不同的探测频率位置同时诱导电磁感应透明。调节隧穿电压及控制光场可以改变吸收性质,从而得到其中一个透明窗口内无线性和非线性吸收的Kerr非线性增强效应。分析表明,量子点间的电压调控引起的隧穿是产生Kerr非线性增强的关键因素。  相似文献

在理论上研究了RY型四能级原子系统中的交叉Kerr非线性效应。采用微扰理论和密度矩阵方法导出三阶极化率实部随外加的相干耦合场强度和原子两基态间的无辐射衰减系数之间的关系。结果表明,在双光子Raman共振处,通过减小原子两基态间的无辐射衰减系数和提高外加的相干耦合场的强度,可以获得无吸收增强的交叉Kerr非线性效应。该研究结果在全光学开关上有着重要的应用潜力.  相似文献

本文用简并四波混频研究了Fe_2O_3水溶胶和有机溶胶的三阶非线性光学特性,指出当Fe_2O_3微粒表面包覆一极性分子后可明显地增强其三阶非线性。实验测得Fe_2O_3水溶胶和有机溶胶的三阶非线性光学系数分别为1.3×10~(-10)esu和2.3×10~(-9)esu。分析了非线性效应的增强机理。  相似文献

The authors propose and analyze the optical signal processing functionality of periodic structures consisting of alternating layers of materials possessing different Kerr nonlinearities. They explore structure-materials-performance relationships in all-optical analog-to-digital converters, hardlimiters, and AND and OR gates. They show that their proposed analog-to-digital converters can extract a binary word from multilevel optical signals in a single bit interval. They also propose a family of optical limiters whose output signal clamps to a set upper logic level for any input value exceeding a chosen threshold. We analyze the optical signal processing functionality of periodic structures consisting of alternating layers of materials possessing opposite Kerr nonlinearities. By elaborating an analytical model and employing numerical simulations, we explore the performance of proposed passive optical limiters and switches. We prove that the proposed limiters provide true limiting by clamping the transmitted intensity at a level which is independent of the incident intensity. We explore the response of optical switches for signal and pump beams having the same and different frequencies. We describe and quantify the performance of the proposed structures in the realization of all-optical OR gates and optical hard-limiters. In addition, we prove that, for fabrication errors as large as 10%, qualitative device functionality remains, with performance only modestly degraded  相似文献

An ultrafast all-optical switching scheme utilizing the optical Kerr effect in two birefringent fibers concatenated with each fast axis crossed is proposed. Stable optical Kerr modulation and all-optical demultiplexing of an ultrashort (30 p.s.) optical pulse train at 1.97 GHz from a gain-switched distributed-feedback laser diode (DFB LD) have been sufficiently demonstrated using CW mode-locking Nd:YAG laser pulses as a pump. Switching speed and required pump powers are studied in terms of fiber bandwidth due to fiber birefringence, and combined effects of chromatic and polarization dispersions on Kerr modulation profiles. By utilizing the optical Kerr modulation properties in the presence of dispersions, the nondiagonal yx component of the nonlinear refractive index is also determined to be 0.34 relative to the diagonal component xx. The intrinsic stability and ultimate switching capabilities are discussed  相似文献

Intersubband transitions (ISBTs) in conduction‐band quantum wells (QWs) have attracted tremendous attention for their high technological potential, ranging from quantum cascade lasers, quantum well infrared photodetectors, to various nonlinear optical elements. One of the main characteristics of using the ISBTs is their polarization selection rule, which forbids a normal‐incidence geometry. Here, it is shown that the ISBT selection rule is not strict on optical nonlinearities in metallic QWs (MQWs). The nonlinear process of second harmonic generation nearly follows the selection rule, while the optical Kerr nonlinear process severely deviates from it. The anomalous optical selection rules result from the non‐negligible ultrafast electron–electron scattering in these plasmonic systems, and a coupled mode theory is provided to get a physical grasp of the problem. The flexible selection rule in MQWs could bring drastic improvements in efficiency and diversity of ISBT‐based devices.  相似文献

A 10 Gbit/s optical data stream has been regenerated all-optically by clock recovery and remodulation. The regenerator consists of a fibre ring laser, modelocked by the incoming data stream, and a Kerr shutter acting as an all-optical AND gate to recode the ring laser pulses with the incoming data. Error ratio measurements for an all-optical regenerator are presented for the first time and the future potential of all-optical regeneration is discussed  相似文献

The authors review progress in the application of nonlinear optical phenomena to integrated optics. Essentially all integrated optics devices such as directional couplers, Mach-Zehnder interferometers, prism couplers, etc., can be used for all-optical signal processing when at least one of the waveguiding media exhibits an intensity-dependent refractive index. Experimental and theoretical results on the operating characteristics and figures of merit of such devices, as well as a new class of phenomena based on large nonlinear changes in waveguide properties will be summarized. Also discussed are measurement techniques for evaluating waveguide nonlinearities. Progress in the implementation of other nonlinear third order interactions, such as degenerate four-wave mixing and nonlinear spectroscopy, will also be reviewed  相似文献
